I was going to buy the GuildWars Trilogy and EoTN so I can get my HoM points, but after hearing about this bug, I think ill wait a while.
I’d get it now. HoT rolls around and you’ll likely be too preoccupied to play GW1. I don’t know about that one player saying you could finish 30/50 in 3 months as if learning how to play the game in a competent manner is some kind of foregone conclusion. GW1 has a completely different playstyle from GW2.
I could see 30/50 in 3 months if a) you knew what you were doing, b) you had a guild and people willing to donate things to your HoM or run you through all the campaign missions. And maybe if you did nothing but play GW1 with all your free time. It took me about 3 months casual (~3 evenings a week) just to complete Prophecies campaign without human help.
GW2 is in a stultifying content lull right now—if you want those HoM points, now is a good time. Anet will fix this HoM bug. How else could they get people to hand over approximately $20-50 for a game they don’t even have to actively maintain?

Is it that hard to only enable it for certain players, it cannot be that hard
Conditions are, IF you have a linked account and your points in Gw2 correspond to the ones in Gw1 you have accessWith the very little programming knowledge i have i dont think thats overly complicated
If it were truly that simple, Anet would have done it by now. It could be that once HoM things get flagged on GW2’s end, there’s no real easy way to unflag it. And why would there have been a need to unflag something when you’re supposedly just getting data right out of GW1 HoM? When a player has earned something there and put it in their HoM it’s a done deal. They can’t even unlink GW/GW2 accounts once they’re linked. It just sounds like everything is one direction only and set up as such since they probably never expected to have to undo something.
re: your earlier comment about GW not generating substantive income…yes and no. People are still trying out the game. I see newbie posts on GW subreddit all the time. Some pick up the game for lore and story reasons (myself) and others show up because they’re chasing HoM rewards. Regardless of our motivations for trying the game, we’re dropping somewhere between $20 (cost of entry) to $60 (buying -all- the content) for a game that Anet spends minimal resources to keep running and zero development dollars in terms of updates and content. Interest in HoM rewards alone is enough to bring GW2 players over. If they don’t fix HoM here, that’s money they’re leaving on the table, imo. Given their b2p business model where players pay once and never have to spend money until expansions, all viable revenue streams are relevant.
If they add more sayings I’d be pleased. Though I think they’ll just make a different back to sell in the store.
Almost died last night due to laughing so hard at what the Job o tron says. It’s the semi running unexpected commentary that’s the charm of having one of these and it doesn’t talk all that much in my experience. My favorites comments are when you come back from downed state, being afflicted with status effects and when you dodge.
I find it disingenuous to complain about it talking when our characters are just as noisy. But whatever. I hope Anet makes it so that we only hear it just so we can spare the fragile teacups among us.
Note to engineers: No, it doesn’t replace our kits, but it’ll still talk even if it’s not visible.

The skins are stored in the wardrobe and you can switch back and forth as many times as you have transmutation charges!
Awesome, thank you! I’m getting one when I get home.
I have a stoopit question about this item. If I have a skin already on my backpack will applying this destroy that skin forever? My character has the toy bag skin from the winter event, and I’d like to keep it for stupid sentimental reasons. :P
Thanks!
“WHERE IS TRAIN?” made me lose my kitten. Well played, OP.
I’d help kill Taco. There’s nobody there now when he shows up. Invite away and thank you!
Yeah…this was not cool at all Anet. Took yesterday off from finishing my monthly and this is just crap.
New blood for the blood god. …oh wait.
Up, for a place for newbies and vets alike looking for no pressure, friendly spot.
Down to page what?? That won’t do. Up you go.
I have an older PC, and I know fully well I’m not going to experience optimal gameplay… ever. I have every single graphics setting on as low as it can go, I have the lowest settings for character limit/detail, and still in cities/zergs my FPS slows to a crawl (as I expected with the announcement of no more culling). I’ve even turned off “show all player names” and yet they show if they’re beyond a certain radius, making it impossible to see anything. I understand that system requirements change and I’ve taken that in stride with my years of MMO experience, but I am a poor college student and use GW2 as a small escape from my multitude of mental health problems (and I know I’m not the only person that this provides reprieve for). I want to keep playing it so badly as I work towards my goals in my personal life, but when my system gets completely bogged down it kind of… bums me out. All that it takes to make this better would be a simple enable/disable culling option.
So, please ANet devs, enable culling again for those of us whose systems appreciate it. It goes beyond a video game we can turn off/on, for some of us.
Are you running programs in the background? Turn off your anti virus as well.
This guy’s post helped me some:

I’m playing on a lowly dual core amd pc built 5 years ago, and was expecting the worst with the removal of culling i.e. logging in to play microsoft powerpoint. Was pleasantly surprised to see my frame rates staying relatively stable and playable during all the zerg events and what not. Yeah the generic models look wierd (my culling settings were at low not lowest), but think the tradeoffs were worth it. Well done Anet.
Hope you get things sorted.
I’m with the ozmaniandevil. RNG hates me. Feeling’s mutual. I’ve given up on getting good drops. If I can’t earn it, I don’t bother. And I’ll only play the game for sake of playing the game. The minute the game stops being fun, I’m done with it.
Can anybody else confirm the fight starts like this for them also?
This is absolutely ridiculous.
Yeah, having this problem. It’s actually a 50/50 chance for me getting one shot like your first vid, but still infuriating. If the zerg shows up below I’m screwed. I know you guys are farming it, but I just want to beat him once. Will try guesting to a lower pop server. Wish we could go to the EU servers…at least it might be quiet during peak NA times. It’s just discouraging.
Nice people. To the top with you.
Currently we have to start from scratch in each zone. Hearts, way points, POI’s, vistas. I suggest everything but the hearts be completed for all my new alts (or better yet make this optional in the menu for those that actually might enjoy repeating). I don’t mind completing the quests and enjoy the dynamic events in the zones.. but I absolutely hate having to chase down POI’s and Vistas AGAIN.
Desperately trying to love GW2
If I played the way you play, I’d be sick of the game too. I don’t feel the need to map complete everything, and I hate crafting in all games so I don’ bother. Each alt has a set of maps it runs, and I try to avoid overlap if I can. Keeps things fresh. When time comes, I’ll pick my favorite character and do 100% completion on that one. People may disagree with me, but I think Anet put together a beautiful vibrant world. I love finding pockets of things in the world i.e. glades, quaggan nurseries etc.
If you treat the game as a series of must-do checklists, then yeah don’t be surprised if you wear yourself out. This is not Anet’s doing. This is just how you play. They’re not responsible for your own compulsions. If you don’t want to do map complete on your alts, don’t. If none of this is fun any more, take a break.
healing mist is a stun breaker!!??? :o
Oh my god it is. It really actually is.
I’m gonna cry if I log in and it’s not. <3 EG.
On that note, it sure would be nice if Engineers finally got a pure group of Shotgun skins. I mean like.. Hard core shot guns. Like a double barrel or combat shot gun.
Do want. Also, the smoke was a good idea as well.
I like the daily system choices and usually get them completed in the course of playing. I just wish they’d make it a weekly i.e. let you get all of them done over 2-3 days as opposed to logging in every day.
Think there could be a compromise for people who want a daily reward for simply camping dungeons maybe give them a choice of dungeons and stipulate they run a few of them for a laurel?
Devs: F minus for the fireworks timing and confusing your players.
Sharing what I’ve learned from my wasting time with this kittenykittenkitten event last night:
If you zone into LA and the sky is a smoggy orange with the dragon hologram is up, just go do whatever it was you’re going to do in game. It’s going to be a while before the fireworks show happens if you do wait. Just go do stuff and check the sky whenever you happen to zone into LA.
If you zone into LA and the sky is dark + dragon hologram in the sky, stick around for dawn. It could be 10 mins, it could be 40 mins but at least you know you’ll be there when dawn happens and you’ll get the achievement as long as it’s not bugged.
How to know if you’re watching the event’s fireworks v. the ones players set off?
The event’s fireworks will make symbols in the sky. The others don’t.
I hope this helps someone.
It’s not ideal, but they told it through short stories. I think this form allowed for more interesting narration, but it’s also true that not everyone keeps up with this.

This needs to be shown in the game not told in these mini blog posts. I don’t mind reading in games, but I expect the devs to incorporate storytelling with gameplay. We’re playing a game, not a novel. Right now, I agree the whole thing is really disjointed. Anet should really take a page out of LOTRO’s storytelling. All their storylines are self contained within the quests themselves.
Name: catofnine
Main Character: Miall Snapfuse, Charr Engineer.
Current Server: Tarnished Coast
Interested Activities: Chatting, landscape PvE, occasional dungeons.
Active: In the evenings PST, GMT -8, several times a week. It varies--I drop in and out of this game and other mmos. If there’s stuff on a calendar of some sort that looks interesting, I’ll likely show up. :P
Additional Comments: I’ve instanced and raided in other games: WoW, LotRO, but I have no idea how the lack of trinity works in this setting. If we group, please be patient while I figure out my “role.”
Are you willing to participate in Operation: UNION’S project, Y/N?: Yes!
This is seriously a bummer that the F&F storyline ends in a dungeon. Couldn’t log in last week due to real life, and now when I do find groups it’s filled with people who want to speed farm the snot out of the instance. I’ve still not completed it and likely have missed the window to experience it fully. Got in a group last night that got past the first boss and then wiped at the trash after. Group leader left the group and the whole thing reset….end of current group.
I didn’t read the rest of the thread, but dear A-Net team…next time just make a solo version of the dungeon (no boss loot) along side the group version. Solo players can experience the end of the story, group players get the extra bling. You can accommodate both solo and group players here, and it’s sort of sad to see you guys drop the ball on this one.
Meh. My reward after a long day is playing the game. The reward for completing the daily is just “extra.” I don’t get the mindset of people who insist on turning a past time into a job or a grind and calling it progression. You gotta wonder if they’re capable at all of turning down the usual mmo carrots (aren’t they tired of them yet?) and enjoying playing for the sake of playing? GW2 is a beautiful vibrant world. It’s a shame that people insist on fussing over playing dress up with their virtual dolls and stressing over a bunch of 1s and 0s.
Not a dev alt here, but bought the game based on the free trial this past weekend and I am really enjoying the game. The social aspect in game is still a little weird to me i.e. people will show up to help on events, but no one says anything in chat. I’m still figuring my way around the game, but I’m very glad I tried this instead of SW:TOR’s f2p. LOTRO’s my primary mmo, but this is fast becoming a good second home.
