My problem is not that I hate the game, its that I am bored of it as there isnt any real end-game. I tried other mmos but GW2 ruined them for me, as they all feel so slow. I want to love GW2, but there is just nothing of interest for me to do
Thats bound to happen in any MMO, even if there is end game. Seems to be most peoples issue. They are bored and wanting something more to do. The game isn’t perfect but it is one of the top MMO options out there (IMO).
There is an expansion on the way, and hopefully it will be here this summer. Imagine having to wait over an entire year without any new content or even patch for that matter, while paying money every month (I’m looking at you Blizzard).
Why not just add some more variety into the game in terms of stats. Would be nice to see things such as some cast speed, life leech, or something that effect abilities in other ways besides just increasing the damage they do.
sadly, you’ve just summed up why I left GW2 long time ago and played only new living world as I was interested in the story direction… I’ve returned on the expansion announce, but as the hype slowly fades out and new information aren’t coming fast enough, I’m again realizing all the problems which made me leave…
The last sentence…kind of why I haven’t installed GW2 again. I keep thinking about the first 3 months of release and how unbelievably amazing it was, how soaked into the world I was, how new and fresh the entire concept was.
At least to me, little by little Arenanet chipped away at that vision, their own vision, with fractals, ascended gear, and finally Living Story.
So while I get giddy about the 3 days that I took off from work for launch, being a little noob in the world, I then fast forward 1-2 years and think about what the game is now:
Champ trains
Everyone has a legendary
Crummy Living Story releases (my opinion)
Ascended Gear
All my friends stopped playing or moved off serverTheres no “wonder” left in the game.
When was the last time you played? Sure many people have a legendary, but to say everyone days is far exaggerating. You are never really going to stop people from zerging down events, I honestly don’t know a way to prevent this unless you made every event completely random.
I took a long break after playing 3 months when it first released. I kind of feel like a new player all over again. Having Ascended gear doesn’t really bother me at all. It is a little extra something to work towards that is only a slight upgrade over exotic. Sure it is grindy, but is it really necessary to have?
The game may not be perfect, but for me…it is a much better alternative than what is out there. If I were to have one critisism, it is what others have mentioned. The current meta is a bit off putting and I do wish there were other alternatives out there.
I agree, a bit of a break is always a good thing. Having taken a nearly 2 year break and coming back…I feel like a noob again. I also wish I had been there to experience the Living Story Season 1 instead of wasting most my time in WoW.
There are many things you do take for granted playing other MMOs, or realize that GW2 does do better. Sure the game has it’s flaws, but for me this game feels more like a true social MMORPG than many other MMOs that have come out over the years.
I have noticed a larger influx of new players. Many of these players do not even realize or know that failing an event leads to these other larger events. Instead of pointing fingers and labeling people as toxic, why not educate them and tell them what you get if you let the event fail.
I havn’t been in Orr too much, but I can only recall one situation where the players didn’t let the event fail. All the other dozens of times they listened once told, and let it fail.
CureForLiving summed it up. People demanded a “real” expansion and they will get it.
I am eagerly waiting to see if this “real expansion” is as big as a traditional expansion. For now i see a new class but no new race. New specializations which is ok. “End game content” which is iffy….and no news about how many maps&dungeons we get which is the backbone of any expansion….and so far they religiously avoided the answer for this. If we get just 1 map kitten that.
Well we kind of have some sort of idea when it comes to the map. Apparently there are 3 layers to the “map” or area. So even if it is one large area, we will have 3 large “maps” at the least.
To me it sounds like it is going to be as large as standard expansions, do we know how much it will be? Lets not forget that we also do not have to pay a sub fee on top of it. I have a feeling it will have just as much content as the expansions we got from games like WoW.
No matter what you do now days you are going to end up offending someone, no matter how harmless it may seem. How do you expect Anet to have forseen such events when planning the April Fools event in the past month or so?
So let me get this straight, you are playing a game that has no monthly subscription and yet you demand more content from a game that is on par with those of a subscription.
There use to be the bi weekly content update, but many requested they wanted a full release expansion. So this is what you are getting. The Dev’s are busy working on said expansion that many asked for.
Seems like you just can’t please everybody. There is no sub fee with this game, you could easily take a break for a little while and come back when there is more to do.
Just look at games like WoW, where players have to pay money every month and end up getting no content for over a year.
Yeah I got this as well, I didn’t know exactly what it was so I opened my chest.
I really don’t want to be rude, but this bug has to be fixed as soon as possible and any incorrectly awarded achievements have to be reset. Those achievements were not exactly easy to get and I personally don’t want everybody being GWAMM.
I agree, I feel bad for having it all of a sudden. Does not feel right.
I see. I didn’t know there was already a lengthy discussion. From what I’ve seen from players, people were OK with having to do the same task over and over to level up.
Not saying you are doing something wrong, but I have never had to do an event more than once or twice to progress…Unless of course I chose to do so. If you stay in a specific area for too long, of course you are going to see an event pop up more than once. Go out and explore and find other area’s to level in, you are not limited to one area, or even 1 particular zone for that matter.
Nobody is forcing you to do those events over and over. I agree some of the timers on some events are way to short. Also what is preventing you from just moving on? The emphasis of leveling in this game is to go out and explore.
You need to throw out the notion of the “I should go from heart hub to heart hub.” There is no direct path you should or have to take. In the end, you are never going to completely remove a grind in any MMO. Its always going to take time to accomplish something, or else it wouldn’t be something worth accomplishing.
The real fun starts around 11pm on map chat doing world bosses.
I assume by “fun” you mean a sobering look at Internet youth culture that makes you question if humankind has any hope of surviving the next hundred years.
Basically what i meant LOL. Now lesbianest here, we wont survive the next 100 years but hey kitten it I wont have to worry about that. Now pertaining to the game itself, by fun i meant when do the enemies get challenging and wild, instead of the same enemies you see in any MMO. By fun i also meant, when do you, if ever that is, start exploring beautiful vistas or intricate dungeons ? Because not saying that i am not enjoying my time playing, but so far at lvl 13 everything is pretty basic and plain, the locations are mehhh, the story may as well not be there, and the enemies are just about what one would expect. I know i have barely scratches the surface, if that at this level but i was still expected much more after watching just about every review out there on the game before buying it.
Just recently got back into the game, but for me I started really having fun around level 30 when you start building up your character more.
As far as challenge, Id say difficulty really start setting in once you hit the Ruins of Orr, which are 70+ zones. This was several years ago though. There are other zones on your way up that can be a challenge.
I recall dungeons being a bit difficult as well to do.
As far as your AI comment, it never has been seriously complex in MMOs. I hear though they are improving it with Heart of Thorns and players should expect to be facing more challenging content and AI.

People disliked it because it was content delivered in small pieces rather than something big at one time. Like lets say an expansion.
But then again now people complain about not getting stuff every two weeks while we wait for the expansions.
Simply goes to show that people will complain about whatever system of delivery is currently used.
I have also seen some people complaining that an expansion is coming out that might offer to much new things to the game. So what is it that people want?
Nothing sounds wrong with adding a little bit of content every few weeks into the game. Better than waiting 4 months for a single patch to come out that may only offer a few weeks of content.
So I have been gone for a very long time, just recently got back into the game. I have been hearing a lot of hate on this whole Living World thing. I am curious why people do not like it.
I have not done to much research on it, but to me it sounds like it is just a way to continue telling a story and that the world continues to change and does not remain static.
Welcome to Tyria!
Once piece of advice…do not race to Level Cap. Enjoy the journey.
Good luck.
True, another piece of advice, go off the beaten path. There are other ways to level beside doings hearts. You never know what you may find if you aimlessly explore :P
As a returning player I was also kind of caught off guard with this new system when I made a character. Most of the stuff you mentioned wasn’t locked to me, but many of my abilities and skills were.
What was so bad about unlocking your weapon abilities through the use of that said weapon? I also am not a fan of the little arrow in the corner. Why do MMOs now days need so much hand holding?
Well then welcome Gerdian. Hope you enjoy your stay!
I played a game like DAoC for over 5 years, just mostly doing PvP alone. So far WvW is pretty fun (Not on DAoC’s level, nothing ever can be) but for me that is my endgame. :P
If you like your carrot on a stick type of gameplay there are plenty of others out there…Though you have a point, it would be nice to see other types of new things to do at level cap.
Id much rather see a game that keeps CC balance in check…Unlike in early days of DAoC or how WoW is right now. The pvp in WoW is soo horrendous due to CC. I believe CC for the most part though right now is in a fairly decent spot. Its not to ridiculous yet, only annoying thing I have found is the permanent cripple. You break out of cripple and you are pretty much instantly crippled yet again.
There are probably a few classes that should be looked at and tweaked, like you said…the thief. Most other classes though seem alright.
Alright ANet. What exactly do you want to hear about this "Elementalist"

Oh look, another assumption that I’m bad.
I have MASTERED my class.
I am GREAT at it.
I am REDICULOUSLY hard to take down in PvP.Yet, I roll an engineer, guardian, or warrior with absolutely no knowledge of them and do better than my ele with less effort.
Explain?
Y
Ive done the same thing, I wouldnt say I mastered my class but I came up with the best build I could think of after many days…For me it offered the best balance of Damage and survivability. Still at times i struggled. A day or so later I figured I would try out a few other classes, Necro and Warrior. I tried out the necro, having never played with one…made some random build I made up that looked okay and went in spvp with no knowledge what I was doing. I Would say I did 2x better than what I could do on my ele without knowing what the hell I was doing.
On my warrior (not using 2H greatsword) I just roll over people with ease most the time…I would have to say elementalist has a far higher skill cap than these classes, necro being one of the easiest to play. The damage may be a bit below par, but the skill cap is far higher than many of the other classes.
I completely agree. I was really hoping for another DAOC style war between 3 realms with keep and tower takes as well as small mans, soloers, duoers, etc. It was so much fun getting a group of 8 or even 2-5 people together to go defend the realm from other small groups, avoiding zergs, killing pesky stealther groups (you know who you are). WvWvW from the small amount I’ve played feels like a casual zergfest.
For game that says they loved DAoC and seemed to want to re-create some of the best parts of that game, I am supremely disappointed.
I believe you really wont see this type of RvR in DAoC ever again…unless they compeltly copied DAoC to the T. Even then, players would not like such a game because to them it would be way to hardcore.
It was an amazing game, but with how gamers are catered to in MMOs it would never work. WvW in gw2 is prolly the closest thing you are going to get to DAoC anytime soon. As for enemy names, I think it is fine the way it is. But it would be nice to see kill spam in the game. It showed who was fighting who and in what area..

Should just simply remove arrow carts from the game, that or make them more expensive. Then WvW would be a ton more enjoyable. WvW is still lots of fun but arrow carts are really the only type of siege that really has become frustrating. Especially with the whole arrow carts above the lord room trick players pull. Makes pushing up the ramp near impossible.
I would say rangers or necro’s. Both a fairly easy class. Can anyone say 3 health bars and more damage mitigation than a warrior?
Yup I agree, Ive nearly given up on Spvp on my ele and went to my warrior because there are so many issues with my ele when it comes to pvp. Downed state is very weak and personally i feel mesmers downed state abilities need to be toned way down.
Underpowered thief downed state?! Try playing an elementalist! Our downed state is almost completly worthless. It immobilizes, so in majority of situations there is nothing you can do to interrupt a finishing move.
Yeah, compared to other classes. I feel elementalist is very weak underwater. On my warrior or engineer I just rip through things underwater. But on my ele, I can barely survive.
A single arrow cart is not to bad, I dont think its their damage that is the issue. Its the fact that they are too good and too cheap to be built. First thing that just needs fixed in my opinion is being able to build them above the lord room.
I do not know if this would be considered a bug but it is a major issue…Players being able to aoe through walls with arrow carts. It is making taking Stonemist castle nearly impossible at times. Either the Line of Sight issue needs to be fixxed or do not allow arrow carts to be built inside the inner keep at the lordroom at all.
Elementalist DPS Whats "I" think is wrong with it and how I worked around it.

ckooken-Maybe i didnt explain well enough why precision in my mind is worthless if you look at the spells you cast as an elementist there isnt enough “direct” spells to warrent stacking the stat at all. nothing off focus looks “crit-worthy” nothing off daggers with the exception of dagger off hand. Staff maybe but who really thinks crit aoe is worth it? Precision does not truly make sense. Now look at all the abilities that can be affected by condition stacking do you see the difference? Also dagger dagger is easy to survive I do not have an issue at all but I also use my heal and dodges are you doing the same?
Chris thank you for your point.
Snaple you seem really angry I apologize for not stating this earlier but I am speaking more for PVE than PVP I am sorry.
Betch Thank you for the kind Statement.
Yes I understand what you are trying to say, and dagger dagger is pretty decent dps. Especially with stacking condition damage. My point is, going duel daggers in a Dungeon is going to offer you nothing but a quick death. Especially in explorable mode. Trust me, Ive tried it…For me, scepter, offhand dagger or Staffs with stacking crit damage and precision offers me the most DPS while staying alive. Sure duel daggers with condition damage might offer the highest amount of dps, but when you are dying in every pull its not worth it.

Honestly when it comes to stat prioritizing it all depends on what attunement you are imo. I go power, precision, crit when I am using daggers or scepter because I am mostly in my fire spec. Dragon’s tooth can hit pretty hard. Also the fact that you cannot stack burning on a target only refresh it so I think condition damage doesnt help that much with burning. Maybe I am wrong.
There is no way I can go dagger spec in dungeons because I will just Die instantly. I need to go range and for me, Power precision crit works best. So far one Issue I am seeing with my elementalist (Especially in PvP) When it comes to damage output, we are pretty below par, in relation to how squishy we are. Atleast from what I am noticing. My guardians hybrid damage/tank spec can dish out more damage than my glass cannon elementalist. I love playing my ele in pve, but when it comes to spvp they are really lacking.
Tested it with several guildies, and there seems to be no ryhme or reason to the nature of the queue. Calling it a queue is misleading though, as it would imply some sort of line, where in those who arrive first get seen to first, though this is clearly not the case as evidenced by the number of times we have seen those who have waited hours get passed by as those who try for a few minutes get in.
Simply put, it is irritating. Putting in some sort of counter that shows your place in line would be nice, at the very least, it would allow you to know if something had gone awry with your place in the line. It would also give you a general idea as to how many others are getting in, perhaps making you more understanding towards the wait. “What, 700 people in line, guess I will be waiting for a while.” As opposed to the click, wonder, worry and hope situation we have now.
I agree, that or some sort of estimated waiting time thing with the queue.
Hope this gets fixed soon. I am sitting at 50k karma and been wanting to buy gear off the balthazar temple karma merchant but we cannot progress the invasion since the southern invasion pack event is bugged and not activating. Same with many of the skill points that seem to be bugged and cannot get 100%
There seems to be a few work arounds. Few players figured out how to reset the skill point challenges and usually the new builds each night fix some of the bugs for a little while.
Same here, Apparently there is a way to reset it. Im not sure how but some players figured it out on my server. Also Whenever they release a new build in the game, it seems to fix many of these sort of bugs for a while.
There appears to be 2 bugs on my server (Fort Aspenwood) that is hindering map completion and the zone progression. First is the skill point in the very south western edge of the map. For the past 2 days it has been bugged, you cannot talk to the NPC to start the skill point event.
Second is the southern invasion of Orr, it was failed and now the pact wont activate to restart the invasion. The escort invasion event has yet to start all day, thus cannot do the main balthazar event. Not sure if there is some other thing you need to do to start it or that it is bugged. My guess it is bugged due to it not starting all day.
