I don’t think they will touch the ele healing this round as that nerf hit us last patch. Its almost like they were testing the healing nerf on us before rolling it out to all classes.

Whatever this patch does to ele, I hope it makes the class more fun to play.

There is a slim, slim, glimmer of hope that the CD of Burning Speed will be reduced by ~1 second.

Well that is no good… I’m a staff ele… the beginning of your sentence had me worked up with the slim glimmer of hope.

This is what i run pretty much everywhere… i don’t use scholar because i know i won’t be able to maintain the health. My staff and backpack are legendary and will switch them to something with more defense if active defense isn’t enough. I also carry around a marauder amulet for some added health if needed. Anet seems to be hellbent on destroying anyone that loves zerker stats, trying to create build diversity thru the need for defensive stats.

Unfortunately, it looks like guildwars2 skills isn’t being updated anymore as none of the agony has been updated.

How many are still playing full zerk in HOT?

I play zerk in most areas but i switch my legendary stats(staff and backpack) to crusader or something else when active defense isn’t enough and i need to take a few more hits. As these “balance” patches roll out I can’t help but think they are trying to force everyone out of zerk.

I don’t know if ele needs a buff but it needs something… Anet seems to be killing the fun of this class and as its my main. I’ve invested alot of time in my main because it was fun. Next balance update will probably be after the pvp season… if they don’t fix the fun I might just go find green pastures somewhere else.

I use a logitech G600 to help with using the ele… I put f1-f5, ~ and 5 to 0 on the mouse and it makes using the ele, much easier.

Unlike other classes, our weapons, spells, attunements and such, are a mix of power and condi. So if we dont gear for both, one of the two will be in weak state.

Sage will be a weaker version of Cele for support aura ele.

The others you want to use for fresh air?

I don’t use fresh air… Right now I use marauder with staff. While ele is a hybrid class I choose to focus power and burst damage. I just recently changed my build to the one that was posted in the pvp forum, it works very well for me. If people really want some sort of celestial they could try the divinity rune with the paladin amulet.

+1 to this… Anet pls stop with the visual noise reductions and do a balance pass… I’ll be sticking to one of the broken classes in pvp, like DH until my ele is viable again. Seriously, how much noise was fireball making and i can barely tell if an aura is on me now. As an asura, you made water overload bigger but my fireball smaller? Ever since HoT dropped i have enjoyed pvp alot less with the new meta… how is an ele suppost to defend his/her self when on one hand there is the extreme burst or on the other had there is the extreme conditions.. celestial is no fun but if you use anything else i hit the ground in seconds because i have been one-shotted with no chance for counter play.

So... Squishy... Can't survive!

Ele relies heavily on active defense.. moving and dodging a lot. If you want do zerk solo with staff you need to blast your water fields (water 3 and 5). The easiest way is arcane brilliance(heal) and/or arcane wave. I carry both an have no issues with soloing staff. If everything is on cool down remember that water 1 does do healing(not much but healing is healing) and if your going to use arcane brilliance try to be close to multiple enemies as it will make the heal larger. My skill bar lately in pve is arcane wave, armor of earth and signet of fire (but this one changes based on what i am doing).

You have lots of aoe so i use control options as often as i can.. air 3 to push them into my fields, and air 5 to hold them in my fields. Water 4 is the only control option in water but will slow them from getting out of your fields and in earth you have earth 4 and 5.

A good combo is earth 4, earth 2, switch to fire and fire 2. If they run into the wall created my earth 4 then they should be stunned long enough for the earth 2 and fire 2 to blast for some good damage… if they look like they might walk out of the fire field before earth blows use the arcane wave to get the blast.

I have also found if your in fire and the enemy has a cone attack run through them and after they attack use fire 4 to roll back through them and blast it with arcane wave. Their attack should miss and you should get a nice chunk of his bar.

Basically, with staff you have to know your blast finishers to really get damage off because waiting for meteor shower just isn’t going to work. I usually start with meteor shower if the enemy hasn’t noticed me and then run into the aoe field it creates. If enemies don’t want to be in your fields kite them any way you can back into them.

Drayos, all toons in GW2 are right handed and the support goes in the left, which the art depicts. I wouldn’t mind duel wielding or main hand warhorn but at the moment the wardrobe has warhorns as off hand only.

I’ll probably be a tempest with a staff… Staff is like an STD to me… keep trying to use the other weapons but keep going back to Staff.

Awesome proposal. Achievements would be a lot cleaner and the dungeon path idea would be great as well… i haven’t finished dungeon master and probably won’t because i have no idea which paths i have done in a lot of the higher dungeons.

The maintenance patch is on the 18th and they have never really said when the feature patch would be.. honestly it can’t get here soon enough.. I hope they aren’t going to do all the class CDI and then bring the feature patch out.. the DEC 10th patch screwed a lot up.

I just wish they would back off the 2 week content as its a bit too much.. I would prefer new content every 3 or 4 weeks that was a little more substantial. I don’t really care if they do an xpac..

As for the competition… the only game i might consider trying is wildstar, but even then i would probably bounce between that and this but ESO… just no. Sub games are the past and just not interested in paying a sub again as its not a guarantee that there is going to be good content going forward. Before people say wildstar is a sub game, it also has another way to get game time which i could see if i could swing that, if not, oh well.. i still have gw2.

my roaming/dueling build:

Based on:
Average damage = Base damage * ( 1 + Critical Chance * ( Critical Damage + 0.5) )

My Average Damage: 2121 * ( 1 + 0.35 * ( 0.64 + 0.5) ) = 2967.279
OP’s Average Damage: 1638 * ( 1 + 0.30 * ( 0.88 + 0.5) ) = 2316.132
Xunleashed’s Average Damage: 1915 * ( 1 + 0.30 * ( 0.80 + 0.5) ) = 2661.85

The only problem with your comparison is that your not taking might/fury into consideration.. with my build the average damage comes out to 3402.5468 but if you add just 10 stacks of might (very easy for me to maintain) my damage bumps up to 3931.3618 and if i run in a group with 1 warrior then 25 stacks is easy to maintain and bumps my damage up to 4724.5843. All my numbers are based on what are on the gw2skills site so i know they are not completely accurate. Also, if I feel i need more armor i swap in a couple of ascended soldier rings and that would bring my average down to 2961.38, 10 stack average thou would be 3421.63.

10 stacks average 2602*(1+0.39*(0.81+0.5)) = 3931.3618

To warm up my stacks i usually use the Arcane Power to get things started. People don’t expect to get hit that hard right off the bat and it usually throws people off. By time the 5 crits are done i have my might stacks. So best possible stats is subjective to how you use your traits, armor and skills. I consider my build to be semi glass cannon.

Remove in combat speed and its fine.

Its a horrible mechanic included because their AI can’t handle people moving in a game about movement. And then those mechanics make their way into pvp and spvp.

I wonder why wvw is such a zerg fest?

Get hit by a ranger in a proximity of a zerg and your fate is usually sealed depending on class. Because you essentially get a potentially infinite duration -33% movement speed debuff while the gankers can walk right up to you and hamtrain your face in.

As if the game didn’t encourage zerging enough.

Luckily i built myself to outrun them (or atleast keeping pace with them) building entirely for it.

I totally agree with this. The speed reduction for being in combat is a bad mechanic.

The only thing the ele really needs is a redesign on attunement. It should be a flat 10 sec cd and the trait should be changed to something other than attunement redunction.

Taking that much healing is pointless in this game.. 500 to 700 is more than enough because there are so many zerker builds that have little life. When i was all decked out in Celestial gear i had about 700 healing and it was more than enough.

Play which every class you want to. Builds don’t work when your low lvl, if your going to play an ele learn how to use combo fields because you can use them at low lvls and they are a skill you will need at max lvl. If you run staff the easiest one is earth 2 > fire attunment > fire 2. Usually it would be combo field first but the timing of earth 2, its better to lay down the finisher first and put the combo field on top of it.

I came up with this long ago but never made a post about it.

What about a diffrent part of Fractals of the mists that’s sort of a boss. Everytime when a party defeats a boss, they will fight against a harder boss. When the party is wiped, the party will get tp’ed back to the instance and have to start over. This will be hard content. I bet Arenanet and the community could think of bosses/ enemies from the past/present. Everytime you defeat a boss you will get better loot. (and mayble punish the players by letting them do it once a week.)

This is just my idea for progression (hard content).

I had an idea similar to this but what if you split fractals into two routes.. the regular fractal route and a fractal raid route. People can do fractals they still love but the other route would be full blown raids based on GW lore. As you trug though the raid there could be a title track to let you know how far you have made it though there could be 3 to 5 titles per raid. for instance if you did an abbadon raid the first title could be “minion of abbodon” and the last one could be “master of abbadon”. Once you got the last title it would also come with a mini, for a abbadon raid it could be a chained and broken abbadon. Have other ideas but rushed for time.

I came about this post of a several month s ago and what I really liked about it was the fact that it expanded on the current professions but added horizontal progression-without the idea of balancing classes nightmare please consider something like this:

I will just quote:

If your thinking about doing something like that please name one of the thief advanced classes “Assassin” because of memories from GW1!

EQ2 did something similar in the beta phase and ended up scraping it. They started characters as just toons and and you went throught 2 periods of specialization. Think they scrapped it because people found it too confusing, if you were to do this I think you would have to really show people what they are getting into, guide them by the hand and show them the options open to them, possibly let them demo the choices before them.

Elementalist specialization could be runeologist (use runes to enhance skills), arcanist (focusing more on arcane skills) and particle fundamentalist (able to reach a new lvl of magic to enhance skills). The ele shouldn’t be called a sorcerer as we aren’t mages or anything close to it.

Calm down DeathPanel. He’s not alone as I’m in the same case as Cobalt, and several of my elementalists mates do the same. Maybe staff ele isn’t just your thing.

Wrong. Staff Elementalist in fact IS my thing. That’s why I don’t appreciate people spreading misinformation. I have two elementalists, Staff and D/D. Both fully geared and in wvw. I know how they function and what the limitations are. People like you like to spread tall tales and end up misinforming players and cause them to lose valuable time and resources gearing up to your mythical stories only to be disappointed.

The fact is unless the opponent is totally ungeared and upleveled, afk, or another staff elementalist there’s nearly 0 chance you will win 1 v 1 as a staff elementalist. It’s simply not what the weapon is designed for.

Your fully geared in what? I wear celestial head to toe with divinity runes and use a bunker spec of 0/10/0/30/30. This set up is for kiting enemies. If you can’t win 1v1 with staff then you aren’t doing it right, simple as that. I don’t win all the time but I can win.

You sound like the zerker armor people that think there is only one way to play the ele. The ele is all about versatility and adapting. If you can do the attunement dance when fighting then you can win.

Deathpanel might not be able to win 1v1 with staff in wvw but i can. Haven’t tried it out after patch yet but before patch in full celestial and bunker I can win 1v1 roaming wvw solo, and no i am not talking about just taking out that are low rank.

It should get easier to play ele after the dec 10th update. If your wearing honed gear(power/precision) and having problems then try vigorous armor (power/vit). The ele as has had survival issues for a long while and we have been shoehorned into traiting for survival. The ele is also good at using combo fields solo and that can help.

By time consuming, i mean the charged crystals can be made once a day and you will need 30 of them, and to make the 30 charged crystals you will need 750 quartz crystals. Also most of the trinkets are bought with laurels or doing fractals. I have a full set of celestial gear and they really did add it to the game just for elementalists, no one else wants it but it works so well on us.

So yes, love the ele before investing a lot of time into this.

How will 10.12. affect my Staff Ele?

I am running staff with 0/10/0/30/30 right now and going to do some experimenting after the 10th. I have been thinking of trying a 30/0/20/10/10 on the 10th and go with might generation, if it doesn’t work i’ll probably be back at my pre 10th traits as they got swapped around but still doable.

If you try to run zerker in WVW you are going to get one shotted a lot, dodging isn’t enough as you can’t see the thieves or people behind you. The build that Neko posted is what i use except the 10 points are in air to give me more mobility. One word of warning on that build… the armor is kitten expensive to craft and time consuming.

I am thinking after the dec 10 changes happen that i might go with 30/0/30/0/10 with arcana major trait being blasting staff and the fire grandmaster being Pyromancer’s

I wonder around solo with my main ele alot and don’t do that bad. I wear celestial gear and a 10/10/0/20/30 traits. Once you learn how to change attunements quickly and when to change its rewarding.

The ele is suppose to change attunements often and a large cool down can be a big obstacle… just thinking that if you lower the base cool down to 10s and let the attunement get it down to 8s then you would probably get fewer people choosing arcane.. I just feel 10s is optimal for a cool down so i probably won’t change my traits very much with the proposed changes… currently using 10/0/0/30/30 and will probably use something very close to that after the changes. I have tried to get off arcane but keep coming back to it because of the attunement cool down.. well that and blasting staff.

I am a staff ele and I feel the same way about lightning.. its mostly just for fast travel which is tragic. I usually goto lightning hit 4 and switch over something else. i try to kill stuff with lightning but it just feels underpowered.

I really like the new UI as well but I was hoping there would be a little more detail in some of the achievements…

example.. in the diving achieve all you can see is that it needs 38 dives, i have 37/38 and no idea which one screwed up so that i have to do them all over again to find the one i missed. If we could have a check list of what we did that would be a big help, even if it was somewhat vague and just told us which zone or general area to look in like kryta.
In another area like the dungeons it could use a checklist as well to let you know which paths you have taken.

I wish they would make them account wide.. I want to collect all the colors but only once… currently i put all my dyes on my main only because i want a complete collection. I have 4 other toons (possibly more in the future, considering a 2nd ele with a different race and i still don’t have a charr toon) and would love to have a large variety of colors on all my toons but that just isn’t going to be a possibility.
