I’m still waiting for more people to get behind this. Too many views, too few replies.
User created content is nice and all, but i’m guessing that the devs are afraid of stolen designs. With player created storyline/quest content it might be a little harder to spot if your Asura is playing out the story to 50 Shades of Grey. But with a 3d model its a little harder to disguise. Star Trek Online had a contest a while back where players could suggest ship models and the winner would get picked. But there ended up being a controversy in that one or some of the designs were stolen ( i cant remember if it was the winning design though). If you are interested in it do a google search for “Star Trek Online Odyssey fiasco”.
And you should just try to compare the difference in detail of the armor in GW2
against the flat textures that they have in WoW.
Not only that Beldin but have a look at those 3d models on the gloves and boots. Those 3d models were around in vanilla, and they are still using it all through tbc, wotlk, cata, mop and now wod. When you recycle 3d models that much it kinda frees up time for other things. About the only unique thing with WoW armor is shoulders and helms. Though they have been known to recycle those too. For example tier 1 and tier 2 gear for just about every class. A lot of it made a comeback in TBC and they put it on quest gear, dungeon gear and non-tier raid gear. It made a comeback in WOTLK too but that was because they re-released Naxx40 as a 10/25 man version and then later Onyxia was rereleased as well.
1) roll a human and set the height slider all the way down.
2) if you want to play as a female then pick the ponytail hairdo, the face that looks kinda youngish, and then pick the chest option with the small tater tots
3) level with friends but tell them that they have to roll Norn and that they have to move their height slider all the way up
4) whenever this group is out questing act like you know everything (common teenager behavior) and constantly ask the group “are we there yet?”
I dont think its a matter of having “massive data changes”. I think it has more to do with if the engine can support it and/or if the devs are willing to make the engine support it.
Someone once showed me how a WoW private server worked. Character data is all stored on a format kinda like an excel spreadsheet. With cells for all the info like name, sex, faction, race, reputation, rep level, and cells for gear slots. You want a warglaive? then put the itemid for it in the gear slot. Want to race change? go to that cell, select your new race from the dropdown box. Now that was a private server, but does it work the same way on live? i cant say for sure. But i’ve done a combined server transfer+faction change which means i also get a name change and race change and i’ve had the transaction complete in under 30 minutes. This was on a weekend and at 2-3am pacific time. So that leads me to believe that they have a user friendly interface that is meant to be used by a customer service rep and possibly even an automated system.
Not all game engines will function the same way and not all data is stored the same way across different games. The devs from SWTOR “claim” that the game will never support sex change because the character/companion storyline is hard coded and linked to character sex at creation. I dont believe them fully if they are saying it because the engine cannot actually support it or if the engine can support it but it is just to much work. I dont mean that in a tinfoil hat/conspiracy theory sort of way, i just wonder if they say it to save themselves the trouble of having to explain or justify their choices to a bunch of players. Now whether GW2 has all their character info stored in such a way that would allow them to easily modify it? i dont know. If there are people who run GW2 private servers (which i dont really see a point to in this game) they could probably answer that for you or give you some kind of insight.

Most classes effectively have an “optimal” weapon for pve/max dps right now.
Since pve/max dps is what a lot of people want, most classes have effectively a signature weapon and weapon combo.Warriors GS/LB
Guardian GS/S F
Engineer Rifle
Thief DD/SB
Ranger LB/S H
Ele Staff
Mesmer S S/GS
People want new weapons and new abilities that would come with it. Its the same way any other game adds new classes (which we are getting), or tweaks their talent trees, or gives players new spells and abilities. With GW2 being F2P/B2P it might be a bit harder cause they gotta set aside resources to do this kind of stuff. But we are on what? year 2 or 3 right now. New weapons or at least one new weapon for every class would be nice i think.
No offense, I don’t like this idea. Yes, it worked in GW1 (especially where the casters subdivided in damage types), but GW2 works very differently. Now, what I dislike is at least partially due to crafting and the trading post. If you’ve leveled up the various crafting skills, you’ll know that some items are easier to sell than others, and heavy armour is already harder to sell than medium or light armour, and I say that’s partially due to only 2 classes use heavy armour. If you have a weapon only one profession can use, not only will all the drops be completely useless unless you have a character of that specific class, but it will bloat the trading post so that each weapon will be near worthless to sell short of to merchants.
No offense taken. This post was not about economy and the TP tho. It’s about how would you make playing a profession unique and possibly more FUN. The BLTN can be fun to play but you have to play a character to farm the mats/items. If it’s not fun to play then why play? That’s what this post is. A suggestion/discussion on how to make the game more fun to play.
Here is a solution that i came up with for the problem the other person mentioned…
In the hands of a Warrior a Greatsword will show its own set of abilities and damage values. For a Mesmer a Greatsword will also show its own set of abilities and damage values, and so on for all the other classes right? The icon however is what stays the same. Sooooo make the weapon name “Signature Weapon” and useable by every class and make the icon something generic.
Now the 3d model and animations would be tricky and i actually had to think about this for a minute. More importantly i tried to see if they could use a current mechanic already in game instead of coming up with something completely new. And then it came to me…how about the Signature Weapon works the same way that attack #1 works for a dagger/dagger air elementalist? the physical 3d models are two daggers, but when the elem uses attack 1 for air the animations are for whips. So the 3d model for the Signature Weapon would be something like a set of oversized bracelets or something. The icon could be the bracelets too or whatever. A warrior puts on the bracelets and when they use an attack a magical/ethereal 2H axe materializes and that is the animation you see. A ranger equips the same Signature Weapon and they put on the bracelets. But when they use the weapon attacks a magical/ethereal crossbow materializes . When a Thief with the Signature Weapon equipped uses their powers then a set of magical/ethereal nunchuku appears and so on. It would be cool if there was a way to make the weapon stick around when the player is just idle. Because a D/D Air elem only uses the whips when attack 1 is activated. When they go idle you see the two daggers instead.
So there you have it…now the weapon can be crafted and will have the same drop mechanics as any other weapon. There wont be 8-9 signature weapons that will drop that only 1 class use for each individual weapon. Instead it would be 1 signature weapon that would drop that all 8-9 classes can use. And the 1-5 abilities would change depending on who equips it, exactly the same way that current shared weapons work now. Leaving the 3d model and animation work to do in order to make it believable.
(edited by cosmatman.9306)
Its a good idea and it would give them an excuse to add in new weapons (and therefore abilities) into the game. And i’m guessing that you didnt intend for your original list of weapons to be the final draft or whatever. But polearm for a thief? dual shields for a warrior? how about this instead:
warrior: 2h axe or some kind of dual wield setup that isnt dual shields
guardian: polearm or flail
thief: dual wield kusarigama (1h scythe) but without the ball and chain, dual wield Sai, or dual nunchucku (lol)
ranger: crossbow
mesmer: throwing darts
necro: 2H war scythe
elementalist: wand
engineer: machine gun or gatling gun. yes i’m serious…make it gear driven with a hand crank or something i dunno. And as much as i hate the term ‘steampunk’ they could make it look like that.
I also cannot decide between Asura and Human/Norn.
I like the Asura animations and dialogue better. All the tiny details they put into weapon swing animations like the Asura hopping up to stab something. Also look at how they heave a greatsword up onto their shoulder when you start walking. Their arms dont just move to put the greatsword up on the shoulder their whole body is moving when they put it up there. Once once up there they lean to the side.
I have duplicate profession for every Norn too and i have their height slider maxed out. I like how some light and heavy armor looks on Norn. But my favorite thing about the Norn females is their dance which i believe is called “The Carlton” from Fresh Prince. She also does those weird hand gestures too like she bobbles her head and points left right left, or she does the wax on wax off with her hands or whatever.
I dont take my video games too seriously (anymore) so i like all those cutesy and goofy bits that Asura and Norn have. I’ve also rolled ton of Gnomes and Goblins in WoW and in Wildstar i rolled all classes as Chuas. Chuas from WS are the only thing that beats Asura on the cute/funny factor for me though. The cool thing about Chuas is they have no gender, but that still doesnt limit you from making them look feminine or masculine through character selection options. Actually you know what? you guys gotta see the Chua emotes. If you like Asura, lolcats and stuff like that you should like the Chua emotes hehe. If you dont want to watch the whole video at least fast forward to 2:20 and look at the /sleep and /dance emotes :P
OP is just complaining about the elementalist class, or is also new to MMO’s in general.
I recall 50 skill slots being used simultaneously in the last MMO I played.OK… To all who keep spouting off this stupid “I’ve just played an MMO with 30+ keys, newb.” nonsense:
Do those MMO’s also require you to move around ALL THE TIME and DODGE? Because anyone can just stand there and click on hotbar buttons all day.
I know that comment wasnt directed at me
I started out playing WoW during the vanilla days on a prot warrior and combat/dagger rogue. Moving around and dodging stuff wasnt necessary on most fights. But i moved around anyways even if i didnt need to. I would circle strafing back and forth in little arcs behind bosses and hop around like a maniac while doing my rotation. Now somebody might see me doing that and think i was trying to be annoying. But i wasnt being annoying…I was actually giving both hands and all my fingers as much to do as possible. And the best place to practice all of that was easy boss fights. That way when i did the hard fights i could maintain my rotation, stay mobile, move out of aoe and pan my camera around all at the same time. All of that experience transferred over to games like GW2, TSW and Wildstar. It even helped me out on ranged classes that could cast while on the move.
Maybe you should try something similar? Stick with your Elem but maybe try Fire or Air dagger/dagger (air imo). Do like i mentioned above and give both your fingers and hands as much to do as possible. When fighting a mob do random circle strafes left and right but dont hop since in GW2 that cancels some of your attacks i think. Maybe bind your dodge key to a mouse button and see if that improves your response times? When you are fighting mobs in an area pay attention to their ability “tells” and learn how to see which attacks are which. First focus on perfecting your ability to stay mobile, doing those arcs and dodging attacks. Maintain a simple rotation (which D/D air is good for) at first and as you get comfortable moving and dodging you can start to make your rotation a bit more complex.
You know what? I don’t know. I’ve played a whole bunch of games over the years and now whenever I’m beginning one, I like to know and at least be competent in ALL aspects before I do anything. I guess I do this due to really fast-paced games drilling it into me to be quick and in full control or be dead.
So when I’m starting out GW2, well now I feel I gotta master the skills, the utility skills, the weapons, the conditions, the dodging, the movement, the healing, how GW2 monsters behave, my attunements and how they differ and can be used, and how I can combine these sets together, and etc. etc. or else I feel I’m just gonna start dying all the time and be worthless.
You notice that they gradually give you your weapon powers as you level? on game release they used to have it so that when you hit 10 times with power #1 for a weapon it unlocked power #2, then you hit power 2 for 10 times and it would unlock power 3 and so on (and you would repeat this for every weapon). Now the abilities are level locked for each weapon. So now you dont get overwhelmed and it works like most other games where new powers are given to you gradually.
I didnt say that you shouldnt master all powers, i just said that you dont have to use all 4 attunements all the time. You need to find what situations each attunement powers are good for. OBVIOUSLY to make that kind of a decision you would need to know how each power in each attunement works right? I did the same thing when i first started playing my Elem too. I messed around with Fire, Earth and Air. Saw which weapons/powers did the most damage, had the shortest cooldowns, or worked well with my playstyle. I knew that water was mostly for healing so i wasnt about to solo level with that. Eventually i settled on air because fun is still a factor for me and i’m not just ‘gomg moar deeps’.
Wildstar and ESO are new games that have been out a few months. GW2 has been out like what? 2+ years now? In that store that you went to did you see any boxes for SWTOR? or Star Trek Online? how about The Secret World? or Rift?
The last time i went to Walmart i think i saw a few boxes of SWTOR and that was about it. Those games are all 2-3+ years old though. WS and ESO have been out for a little under a year. Also iirc both those games are sub based and the last i heard they were having player retention issues. Maybe its the fact that WS, ESO and WoW are all sub based so they need advertising to draw in new players. While GW2, SWTOR, STO, TSW, etc are all F2P or sub-optional as well as being older games. And maybe since they are also F2P they also rely more on digital distribution as a cost saving method?
Or maybe its just cause it is Blizzard and they are huge and they can afford advertising? i mention that WoW is old but sub based. But if you look SC2 and D3 are up there too and they just have a box price and afaik no subs.
EDIT: also one other thing, but Wildstar is a niche game too i believe. It was meant to cater to the “hardcore” players. It has a lot of the same features that GW2 has. Hotbar with only a few abilities and dodge system. But GW2 actually did a lot better overall with megaservers, the overflow system and the ability to quickly transfer between servers (early on in game release). And the important one is the scaling system, which so far i have not seen any other game do as good as GW2 does it.

How I have to keep track of a crazy amount of keys all while CONSTANTLY moving and dodging, UT style.
I mean, are any of your guys noticing this too? I feel like everyone’s just having a party and I’m one of the few who can’t enjoy anything there because I keep bumping and crashing into things due to incredibly terrible and cramped room layout. This is really getting quite silly.
Crazy amount of keys? you have like 10 abilities on your hotbar. As an elementalist you will have 10 + another 15. But you know what? who says that you have to constantly swap between fire, water, air and earth all the time? If you are doing it to maximize your effectiveness then i would think that you know what you are doing and are a new player to the game, but not to the genre. I have a dagger/dagger Elem and i just run around in air all the time and if i run into a group taking on a Champ i will switch to water if i think they need a tiny bit of help with healing.
You need to not get confused by all 20 of the abilities that you have. Instead ask yourself what kind of situations will you find yourself needing to switch to fire? what kind of situation will you need to switch to water? what situation for air? what situation for earth? I’m only up to level 40 on mine but while i am running around solo questing i stay in air full time. And as mentioned earlier i switch to water if a group i come upon needs healing/cleansing (though i dont always change). There isnt a situation where i will have to switch to fire or earth. I would probably do more damage as a fire D/D but i dpsing as air D/D. I might get a little more protection as earth D/D but if i’m constantly in situations where the protection from earth will make or break a fight then maybe i need to rethink my rotation, playstyle, or gear.
Well, on topic, my personal advice would not be to use words like “required” or “forced”, as that will only be responded with negativity.
Another question for you guys (again this is all postulation and “what if?”, not what I personally want):
What would you make of it, if Anet did release content with HoT that was more challenging and different to current PvE content to the extent that it required these build variations within teams for it to be completed successfully? In other words, if it forced the playerbase to think more about how they should be supporting their team mates in combat, more-so than their damage output and individually trying to stay alive? This is just one example scenario; others could perhaps make players focus on pure damage output. What would the community make of such an addition (I won’t say “change” as it would be entirely new content).
I always welcome more challenging content and if you don’t know, whole “zerk meta badkittens” likes to conquer new obstackles.
However I don’t believe they can force players to split on roles because there is no reason for it. We can already support each other while also dealing damage so why should my friend guardian stand still and cast buffs while I’m dealing damage when we can do it together with good build composition?
The game would need a whole skills and traits revamp and I don’t believe this is going to happen.
Okay, put in a different way – scrapping the “required” element as that’s clearly not going to fly:
How would you perceive it if it was more efficient to complete the new content by using more diverse builds that encouraged team support instead?
The way most players mentality goes anyways is if the devs make a certain thing optional players will make it a requirement. Devs create a fight and say ohh you can have might and it will take you 4 minutes to do the fight, but if you dont have might then you can still do the fight but it takes 5 minutes. And players will say screw that…we’ll always take might, and someone with fury, and combo fields and etc etc.
I dont do dungeons, raids or fractals in GW2 (yet) but in most other games i’ve played that is almost always how things end up working out. And it usually leads to more pre-mades, fewer pugs and longer LFG tool queue times (due to everybody doing premades). Isnt that how most groups in GW2 are doing it now? premades getting setup with good group compositions because they all have synergies that work well with each other.
Now this sounds like trinity, I know, because it would be a requirement of tank/heal-support/DPS elements within the game. But is it? Referring to my definition of trinity (as I understand it) – trinity means you are STUCK in that role for your whole game experience. But in GW2, you wouldn’t be. Given the profession/build system, you would have the choice as to whether or not you were the member of the team who became the tank or the DPSer, for example.
That may be how you define the trinity, but here is how i define it.
When any hard group content requires a dedicated tank, a dedicated healer and several dps. By dedicated tank i mean someone who can tank for a long period of time and usually needs outside help to survive (healer healing them dps killing stuff). If any non-tank tries to tank a mob or boss in this harder content they will end up getting 1-2 shot. A dedicated healer is someone with more then minor healing so if damage on the tank and group is continous then healing has to be able to go out continously. Pretty much the way WoW is without crazy power creep. I dont see it as something that has to do with a class/profession choice that you made and a choice that you are stuck with for as long as you are playing the game.
I’m willing to bet that most (or all) of the people asking for a trinity system is looking for exactly what i mentioned. They arent looking to redefine the term “trinity” for GW2. They want the same trinity that they see in other games like WoW or SWTOR and they want it here too. And in those other games they have things like dual spec now. Back in the day if you wanted to tank you were stuck in that role, unless you wanted to go back to the capital city, pay for a respec or something. But now you can switch specs on the fly right in a dungeon or raid, and swap to your offspec gear.
Now me personally? i like the trinity system and i dont mind it, but i dont want it here in GW2. The pros of adding it in right now dont outweigh the cons. For starters the game wasnt designed with the trinity system and asking for one is a major design change. Tanking and healing professions may have to go through some major changes first. DPS can just pew pew like they always have been. But boss/mob damage on tanks will probably increase and so tanking stats will probably have to change. And when that happens healing output and maybe even healing mechanics will have to change too. And what do you think it would do to queue times for dungeons and raids? Ohh the Shadow Behemoth is up? well you cant start it until you have 3 tanks, 5 healers and XX number of dps. Have to wait a while before you can do a dungeon because all you have is 3 dps and you need a tank and healer. WoW may have dungeon queues that pop after 7-10 minutes of waiting but that doesnt mean that a GW2 trinity system will have the same wait times for group content. There are differences in population and profession differences that could cause GW2 wait times to be either a lot lower or worse a lot higher. There is no way to accurately predict what will happen to GW2 wait times. Anyways i think that a GW2 trinity system has too much of a potential to kill the game. If i feel the itch to tank something then i’ll go play WoW instead…
Is there some reason we cannot get heavy leggings like on the Lionguard NPC below?
That entire set can be made using Karma vendor gear
So that is one, any other options besides that one? something for low and mid levels characters?
Funny that i should see this thread because i was thinking the same thing about the heavy armor dress/skirts. I dont really care where the game designers get their inspiration from, whether it is IRL, other fantasy works, or a combination. I would like to see more “pants” style leggings. The things is…this is already in game but of course on NPCs. Like some of the Lionguard have plate leggings with no skirt. Actually its more like mail leggings with some plate here and there.
Is there some reason we cannot get heavy leggings like on the Lionguard NPC below?
I dont know if you can really say that its an animation or clipping issue. Because the mail part of the leggings are just a texture skin painted on the models. The plate attachments are the only parts that have and 3d depth but all the non-mail stuff doesnt look like it is in a place that would have clipping issues. Are all the flaps and skirts we have now meant to cover up some kind of animation or clipping issue we have now?
So in other words it’s not the games fault for lack of people not wanting to group together? Or does the game encourage solo play outside of dungeons?
As somebody mentioned outside of dungeons you dont need to form groups to do DE’s or raid bosses. All people need to do is work cooperatively to do DE’s and champions/bosses. People will start to converge in an area, work together and go their own ways once finished.
But it sounds like you want to group up with somebody and chit chat. If that is so, then i would recommend finding a social guild and see if anyone wants to team up. Teaming up with random people, and then trying to start up a conversation usually makes people uncomfortable. Some people want to tune everything else out and become immersed in the environment, not carry on a conversation, or have to do anything with their guild. If you are in a guild with people you are close with, you dont even need to be questing together. If there is a guild vent see if there is a general chat channel that people use. One of my old guilds, people would go to a channel and just talk about random stuff. But one person could be PVPing, another could be leveling, another could be doing a pug raid, and yet another could be in a city just spinning on their mount.
Yah the human squeak is really annoying…i actually favor my asura war/guard over my human war/guard because of this. It needs to be more of a grunt or something. Like a ‘huaaaah’ not a ‘hweeee’.
Why does it matter? Heart vendors make this a none issue.
It’s a valid question for someone playing GW2 as their first MMO. Some people dont know about random drops, or salvage/vendor loot. I saw this question a few times too on the TSW forums from first time MMO players.
Bots= Called bots because they are not controlled by a player. A player used a program to leave the character unatended farming gold/karma for him. This goes against the rules of the game since the player is not actually playing the game and impacting negatively the experience of other players.
Bot or Botting can also apply to people who go AFK in an event spawn area, leaving their auto attack on. The core concept is that the character is not under direct player control- there’s no flesh and blood at the keyboard.
People need to be careful about applying their own definitions, or using their own logic to come up with their own definition of a bot or botter. I’m hoping that’s not how Anet defines botting anyways.
I have never seen an AFK player autoattacking something referred to as a bot, that’s just an AFK player. The ‘core concept’ of every definition of bot i have ever come seen is that the character is under the control of a third party program or software. The fact that there is no control, except for autoattack is not reason enough to be considered a bot. For GW2 specifically, i dont even think it is possible to go into autoattack mode on a mob if it attacks you. So once you kill something then the next thing that comes along will just hit you until you die.
The only thing i see coming close to this situation is an AFK ranger with a pet that is able to kill spawned/aggro’d mobs. AFAIK a profession with no pet will not start autoattacking if they themselves are attacked. But i wouldnt consider this bot behavior. It’s still an AFK player, that is possibly exploiting a game mechanic. And it is up to the GM’s to determine if that action is actually an exploit or not. I dont just go off saying ‘hmm AFK ranger using pet to kill…thats an exploit for sure, time to spread the word’.
(edited by cosmatman.9306)
MajorRockerI’ve never seen bots teleport. I’ve watched some groups for 30-60 minutes while doing my thing and they just stand there, never moving. I’m not saying they don’t teleport, just saying I’ve never seen it.
If you are gonna put together a ‘how to spot’ a botter PSA you might want to be more receptive to other peoples observations. I’ve seen it a bunch of times too, a player or players will teleport short distances of about 25-50 feet. That is probably worthy of being added to the original post.
Gold sellers now including 1 copper in their mail so you can't delete it...
Posted by: cosmatman.9306
What should one do when he gets such a mail? Accepting the copper to get rid of the mail involves the risk of getting your account flagged for gold buying…
I used “return to sender” – did I do the proper thing?
Thanks!
I just treat them the same as quest reward mail. I hit take attachment > delete > take attachment delete and so on. I usually do quest rewards mail in groups, i dont really read them anymore.
Also where does it say that accepting the copper flags you for gold buying? did you pay for that 1 copper with IRL money? did you offer anything in exchange for it? i’m guessing no and no.
What the kitten guys? This doesn’t help.
Let’s spin the conversation on its head. What are you guys playing, and what do you find great about that class? What works, why do you like it?
I dont play FOTM class/professions, and i dont chase FOTM specs after every nerf/buff. I dont let other people dictate how i play the game. I figure out on my own what class/professions i like based on my preferred playstyle…and i make it work.
The only professions i dont really like is the necro and elementalist. I havent found a weapon combo i like on my necro and i got bored of my elem. Now my mesmer was my most hated prof up until 2 days ago when i tried out scepter/sword. I usually play tank classes or melee dps in other MMO’s and the mesmer didnt seem to fit that description. However scepter has a block and sword has a block, so i’m playing mesmers kinda like a tank. Once i started doing that, i started enjoying mesmers a lot.
You can go to another zone anytime you want, as long as it isnt over your level (where the mobs will roflpwn you). Go to Divinitys Reach, go to the 2nd floor and take the Asura gate to Lions Arch. From there you enter the central hub with all the Asura gates that go to each races main city.
If you have done Queensdale since you are a human maybe try Metrica which is kinda fun/funny with all the Asura running around. The Norn starting zone is kinda cool too, Sylvari and Charr feel kinda confusing imo.
Smug3. if you use the mouse to turn, then you can’t strafe around targets, move in and out, and use all the skills at the same time, resulting in a brief moment of standing still while you fire off a skill
You can mouse turn and strafe, skill use is a bit tricky but keep in mind thief is the only profession that has spammable skills, and even then you cant spam it continously.
Here is what i do:
-middle finger on W
-ring finger on A
-middle finger moves to S if need to back up slightly
-index finger on D
-use ring finger to hit keys ~ (tilde), 1 and 2
-use index finger to hit 3, 4 and 5
Now use your ring finger to strafe left with the A key AND at the same time use your index finger to hit 3, 4 and 5.
Now use your index finger to strafe right with the D key AND at the same time use your ring finger to hit 1 and 2.
You are just strafing left and right at this point. BUT now try this, while doing any of the above click and hold the right mouse button. While holding the RMB move the mouse left and right while your left hand is strafing and attacking. That is how you circle strafe while attacking.
From there you can bind the skills on hotbar 6-0 to ALT 1 thru ALT 5, or any of the unused keys around WASD. Or you can mouseclick them, but this is usually a bad idea if you use the skills for emergencies or you pvp a lot.
IMO an introduction to more of the basic GW2 mechanics should be worked into the opening quest. The first part when you are on your way to the boss you could run into a group of NPC’s who are fighting a veteran type boss that does weak damage.
This mini boss can be used to introduce the basics, and the last boss you can put the things you learned into practice. The NPCs can be used to give you hints on what to do.
-boss is coming at you
NPC: look out he is coming right for you, dodge to the left/right/away etc
-boss took a little bit of your hp
NPC: hit your heal button
-NPC lays down a combo field
NPC: gives you instructions on how to use the combo field, and its purpose
-NPC wants you to lay down a combo field
NPC: tells you what the other NPC’s are doing in the combo field
I dont know if each profession has access to a combo field from their weapons. It could be easy enough for a dev to switch what weapon a profession starts with. But if a certain prof can only lay down fields with spells, then it might be a bit tricky.
I am wondering how many people like me plays with their wife, friend etc. I play with my wife and we are finding that when grouped its almost pointless as we end up running off to do the quests separate since i am faster at her in killing mobs so she doesn’t get credit.
Grouping is not pointless…the group will always have to wait for it’s slowest player.
In your specific case, maybe if it’s not too late roll a class that isnt as OP? or even better pick a weapon combo that is not as OP as the one you are using now? maybe let your wife take the lead, or take turns on who leads, or if you both agree that it should always be you then you need to set a slower pace.
NismoAKThing is, I see that stacking defensive stats seems rather… irrelevant. More so for the fact that you come across generally two major stats in the gear. Not always the case, but generally speaking. So if you were to build it in that fashion, what would be the purpose if you’re not a Tank? Taking hits, maintaining aggro and being the shield for your party or group. This pertaining to PvE of course.
You are still thinking in the traditional sense and trying to apply stats to a trinity setup. Those are defensive stats, that is because everyone in this game at some point has to act defensively. Stacking defense on a WoW mage might be pointless, but stacking toughness on a elementalist might be necessary if you find yourself taking a lot of damage. Everyone is their own tank, their own healer and of course a dps. You can support other people and people can support you defensively or with heals, but you are still responsible for your own heals, defense and dps.
NismoAKLast part to this is the gear. Armor and Toughness add to damage reduction. I understand that shields allow for skills that allow you to block, do damage, or apply a status effect, but how does one utilize the more defensively. I always see Guardians and Warriors using two-handed swords and not so much of one-handed weapons and shields. Now I understand that it’s for damage purposes to use two-handed weapons, but I don’t understand why a sword and shield couldn’t be more prevalent for being a defensive powerhouse. Adding more to damage reduction and blocking and such.
It depends on the situation, it is not always necessary to run around with a shield. Even on boss fights, it might not be necessary. They may have built their traits up for defense instead, they may have defensive skills, or they might have their defensive weapons on a weapon swap.
On my warrior i use a mace in mainhand and sword in offhand for my defense swap. The mace has a block that is on a short cooldown, and the sword also has a block on a short cooldown. I use a sword in my OH instead of a shield because the sword block has half the cooldown of the shield block.
I’ve had this occur on multiple occasions and it’s really frustrating.
A group of players will take on a mob (commonly a boss, veteran or champion) and he’ll commence to kill the melee characters. That’s fine and all.
But at times the mob will decide that an already downed player really needs to die. And that’s annoying and doesn’t make much sense. Surely a crippled or downed player is the least threat to a mob, and thus should take the lowest position on his/her threat table.
Simply being focused to death for no apparent reason, and with nothing you can do about it, is really frustrating. Surely this cannot be intended because….well why would it?
For one thing, there is no threat table. Another thing, is that once focus has been shifted off of you, then you can easily get up on your own by channeling #4. Once you’re up again then you are a ‘threat’ once more. If they coded bosses so that focus shifted once you are in a downed stat then people might not even bother dodging or avoiding abilities. Why bother dodging when you can just channel #4 for a few second and be back in the fight? Right now with the boss focusing you, people have to make think about their situation. Do you try to teleport away (if you have that ability)? do your teammates come in and help revive you even if there is some danger from a boss right next to you?
Just finished putting the build together a few hours ago. Finishing up with updating the drivers and installing GW2 and WoW. Just one thing though, i went to msi.com to update my graphics card drivers but it was taking forever just to DL 200mb. Is there somewhere else that i can get the drivers?
I went with the Msi GTX 680 Twin Frozrsomething if that makes any difference.
Respeccing shouldn’t be one of them. It limits gameplay options in a game where character builds are already way too homogenous.
What it does is it forces you to give your spec some thought, instead of being able to switch to a new spec on the fly to fit w/e situation you are currently having trouble with. Mobs not dying fast enough while leveling? spec to heavy dps and continue leveling at a faster rate. Run into a champion/boss while you are leveling that hits kinda hard? switch to a survival spec. Having trouble with class X in pvp? tweak your spec a little. Able to kill class X, but now you’re having trouble with class Y? tweak your spec a bit more.
have you been keeping track of how many ‘why does this cost silver’ threads there are?
-why do we have to pay for waypoints
-why do we get repair bills
-why do we have to pay a tax for the TP
People ask those questions all the time, and i believe a lot of people also ask for those things to just be free. Do we just want to make everything free, and put the sink in one place for a huge chunk of gold? or do we spread it out across a lot of things and just make it cost a little bit?
Also one slight disadvantage GS have is that versus a mobile mob it will be slightly less effective. It does not force your character to autoface the target, and It also roots the warrior in place. Also it is a channeled attack, so if it is interrupted that is lost dps.
In PVE that might not be a big deal, because you can work around boss mobility and if you know their attack patterns you can keep yourself from getting interrupted while casting 100 blades. But in PVP people may use those things to their advantage. So a warrior would need to have a root/stun or a friend that can root and stun so that their 100 blades is more effective.
The game needs money sinks, this is one of them. I dont know how familiar you are with in game economics (game economics, not IRL economics). In game currency like copper and gold is bought in to the game by NPC’s in the form of rewards or payment for items sold to NPC’s. That currency then needs to be taken out of the game, not just transferred to another player which is what player-to-player sales does, but taken out of the game. They do this by giving you repair bills, giving waypoints a cost to use, giving you consumables to buy from NPCs, and giving your trait respec a cost.
Whether the money faucets and money sinks in game are balanced or not is another matter.
If you want to try out different builds you could go into the mists, but unfortunately that only allows you to mess with level 80 builds
This isn’t really about what I’m doing specifically, I’m trying to get a discussion about balanced builds in general. lol
Well with condition heavy builds you dont have to worry about stacking power or crit. Unless its a cond build like yours that relies on crits to proc bleeds. When you dont have to worry about power or precision, that means you can stack other stats/traits like toughness or vitality which for a melee war like yourself would be a good idea.
On the other hand if you stack power and precision that means you dont want to stat/trait for cond too because then thats also less tough/vit/power and precision that you can stat or trait in to.
Yah i forgot about the F1’s for both, but the trait info would have been useful. But even then you are using crits to proc bleeds. You end up sacrificing cond dmg to get your crit high enough to get the bleed procs. You might want to pop in the necro forums too, and look for discussions about more then 2 necros with bleeds on the same boss. See how your bleeds and their will interact if you are in the group with multiple necros/sb rangers or other bleed dependent profs.
I wont go any more into it because i am kinda tired and my eyelids are getting a bit heavy.
Sword/Axe only has conditions on the autoattack. Longbow only has 1 condition attack, fan of fire which is on a 6 sec CD. I dont think that’s enough condition damage attacks to justify stacking condition damage.
EDIT: if you just did steady autoattack with your sword you will get to 7-8 stacks of bleeds. But since you’ll be using other skills too, it looks like you will usually be at 5-6 stacks of bleeds instead of 7-8.
DOUBLE EDIT: forgot about F1 which has bleeds too. It does stack really high, but it is only for a 2 second duration, and it is a channeled ability which means it is more likely to be interrupted.

Sako.2391I’m having enough fun with just 3 characters, to be honest!
I never understood how someone could need to buy so many slots. To each their own, though.
Roll Engineer try it out
Roll Thief try it out
Roll Ranger try it out
Roll Mesmer try it out
Roll Necro try it out…delete Mesmer
Roll Warrior try it out..delete Ranger
Roll Guardian try it out…delete Necro
Roll Elementalist try it out
That’s kinda what my first few days of GW2 looked like. I even deleted the 5th slot multiple times because i wanted to go back and try the othe professions again even after i had deleted it. I eventually went up to 8 character slots…but then i wanted to try out other races.
hehehe
For ranger pets
You can also get one that is a bit more ‘tanky’ then others. Pets like the Arctodus, Murellow, and Bear have lots of vitality making them good for soaking up any kind of damage. Some pets have toughness and vitality, but the toughness doesnt mitigate condition damage. Bears are the easiest one to get, you can find them in the Norn starting area right in the bears den.
The reason is rather simple. Blizzard didn’t profit from player deaths. AN/NCSoft does.
Actually, the more you die in WoW the longer it takes for you to get the gear that you want, so that will make you stay SUBed so they do profit from death. Your point is invalid.
Also…this kinda doesnt make sense. People dont play WoW, get all their gear and then unsub until the next content patch or expac. I do know people that do this but thats at the end of a expac when they are waiting for the next expac, but they are a very small minority.
@ OP
WoW isnt a very good comparison. A lot of the gear in WoW had your main stat along with stam. Only a very very small portion of blue or purple gear had straight agi/int/str on it. I dont even think they have gear like that anymore (greens not included).
I saw this problem when i started playing TSW too. You had to choose between health, power or healing pieces. I would say that both new people and wow vets alike go for the stat that fits their role. New players do it, because it makes sense, vet MMO players may do it because they think they can get away with it or they want to min-max. Of those though, new players will be easier to convince that you need to have some health and that you cant just stack 1 stat.
yup thats the stuff
Pretty much the only thing i will get will be the things i listed here. I know that most of the hardward has it’s own wiring and instructions, but i wanted to make sure there wasnt an oddpall part that i had to buy on its own.
I want the PC to last for several years, not just to be able to run the current games at max settings.
I have a separate Passport external HD that i will be using for main storage. I’m new to SSD’s and i have heard of a few do’s and dont’s. I was going to put GW2 and WoW on the SSD and everything else on an external HDD. Depending on how long the SSD lasts, i’m prepared to replace it at 1-2 years of use if it needs it for w/e reason.
Gonna wait a few maybe 7-8 hours then gonna go ahead and order. Anything else that you guys can think of that isnt related to the main hardware? should i pick up a set of precision tools? thermal paste (the stuff they use for the CPU) or anything like that?
Is everyone that's having bad FPS, using AMD CPU and or AMD video cards?

Same as Manicpanda,
Nowhere in the game does my FPS get low, except for in Queensdale Bandithaunt cavern, same place as Manic. The lag starts once i go in the front entrance, through the first tunnel and into the first open cave area. I can go all the way through to where the vista is and of course my FPS goes up slightly when i face the wall. The thing is i’ve been playing since 2 days before launch and didnt have the FPS issues in Bandithaunt before. I only started noticing it maybe a week ago.

Ohh that was my mistake Swede, i added in the Alpine 11, in case the Corsair doesnt work out. I meant to add a note about that but i forgot about it.
Also the 200mm fans were only like 20 USD each. If i’m not able to figure out the water setup then i may put a side fan, maybe another top fan. I’ll take any noise reduction i can…just cause 1 accessory is a little loud, i’m not gonna make the whole setup loud. The air and water coolers are just a small portion of my budget. I actually saved a bit by downgrading certain things like the mobo and cpu, and getting rid of the sound card. It made fitting in the 680 GTX into the original budget that much easier.
Regarding the 680 i may go back and forth between that and the 660 Ti a couple of time over the day. But right now i am leaning heavily towards the 680. But it was a good suggestion to go with the MSI brand, that has 2 fans on the VC instead of 1 like EVGA.
Ohh and also average temps this summer were about 85+ degrees, outside. I’m on the second floor of the house, in the room with the most electronics turned on and we dont run AC the whole summer. So it was slightly warmer in my room, i’m talking no shirt days…just watching movies on my PC days.
It looks like the case has two 200mm fans, and a 120 or 140mm fan already installed. Since they are cheap i’m gonna get two more 200mm fans in case i want to install them too. Gonna log from the forums for now, but i will check back later in the day to check for feedback.
Ok revision to the revision:

I’m assuming sound card still isnt needed since it is integrated into the mobo? I would still like some form of liquid cooling. And i dont know what kind of air cooling the case comes with or if i have to get that separate. Newegg has a vid of the case and i’m gonna watch it right now. But here is my revised revised list for you guys to critique. I put a message in the previous two lists that i posted so there would be less confusion.
I looked further and it said that p/n was actually discontinued? I was looking at this other one though, the timing isn’t as low as the one you recommended, but it’s the best of what they have in stock.
16gb 4×4gb

DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
• Timing 9-9-9-24
• Cas Latency 9
• Voltage 1.5V
We have two internet connections in the house. Mine is a dedicated hardline just for my room, and everyone else in the house shares a wifi from another computer. If my internet goes down i just hop on the wifi.
I checked the RAM and on newegg it isnt available, and it doesnt come up on tigerdirect. When looking at RAM does the part that says DDR3 2400 (PC3 19200) have any meaning? do i have to match that up with my mobo? Because on the 2 mobos i listed above it has 2400 DDR3 (O.C.). Or is it just higher = better? since price also goes up as those stat numbers go up.
EDIT: nvm i actually just googled the part about ram timing hehe.
