the other qualifiable Champ Devourer in Iron March is broken on the 3rd pre, so cant compete HOPE 4 right now
glad to know I’m not the only one, it is weird one :\
looks like only some maps are broken
Frostgorge is gone…
LA, Bloodtide, Sparkfen, Southsun, Dredgehaunt, Mt Maelstrom, Blazeridge are still working
My theory on this is that you can get into existing, open maps. But if some maps are nearly full and GW2 wants to create a new instance of that map, things break and you time out.
looks like your theory is right, I can confirm i’m able to get into non crowded farming maps fine like Ruins of Ascalon, Brisbane Wild, Field of Ruins fine
but really popular farming maps like Verdant Brink for flax, I get stuck on the loading screen, even though there was someone in my raid is having no issue in his instance of VB
My ticket on this very subject has been dismissed by your GMs.
We are being abused by those who aren’t reading our emails and are certainly ignoring all tests sent back.
comon, dont be unreasonable, their support staffs are getting bombed by hundreds if not thousands of tickets, rather spending time and reply to each ticket, would you not say it is more effective to working towards resolving the issues asap?
just be patient, consider this like the boring full server maintenance down time on other MMOs, except you can still get into some of the world maps that are still working
go out and start mining and chopping

from what I’ve seen, Traditional Chinese and Hangul are fine, but seems like character sets for Simplified Chinese, Hiragana, Katagana and Kanji are not supported.
The thing with stress test it’s synthetic, does not perform exactly the same because the way game engines work is a totally different beast.
My PC kept blue screened in games in less than 5 min, but stress tests run fine over 30min, eventually found out it was due to faulty PSU.
Have you tried other games? or older GPU drivers?
Also, are the fans controlled by a controller software? like Corsair Link.
From a technical point, it’s a simple answer if you ask any programmer or DBA with experiences in medium business to enterprise-grade platforms.
It is more efficient to update the ban flag true/false against an account name inside one table (a 5-second job) rather than going through hundreds of tables to delete all data record linkages when storage space is so cheap these days.
Why should anet waste time to do proper maintenance on these cheater account.
Also, totally agree with Seera “Loss of name is part of the punishment”, because getting the toon name you want IS also part of game play experience.
So live with it naughty boy :p
People complaining about why games do not use up their shiny GPU’s full potential shows misconception of how much GPU affects the performance with MMO games, and a lack of understanding of how game engines works.
CPU bottleneck is a common limiter of any MMO, the CPU needs to translate and calculate players coordinates in the visible screen, on skill and spell trajectory, etc on the fly, so the more players on your screen, the slower your game runs, and there is also a limit to how much the game CPU can process before passing on instructions onto the GPU for rendering.
Where as GPU handles the rendering and physics engine, in which physics engines is rather light in most MMO, so it will never hit its full potential.
A good example to compare against is Black Desert Online.
BDO have a ‘full suite’ physics engine built into it, but because not many people play it, the load on the CPU is very light, so GPU doesn’t need to wait for a long time for the instructions to be received from the CPU; and because of the environment graphics that needs to be renders is very high resolution, and physics engine itself is already very heavy, the GPU will be constantly 80%+ usage.
But when their world boss battle starts, the game slows down so much due to the number of players there and constantly spamming skills (very fast actioned), the game becomes so unplayable that you find GW2’s world boss battles to be playable on a totally different level.
Yes, GW2’s engine has its limitations, but there is also the physical limitations of how many instructions the CPU can process.
It also demonstrates the community base of the game, that GW2 is truly running with a healthy player population.

finally in, seems like there was a queue
Now says "Guild Wars 2 is currently full. You have been placed in a queue and will automatically enter the game when space is available. Please Wait.
Having weird connection issues, seems like started to happen a few weeks ago.
The behaviour looks like a forced kick by the map servers.
Due to the OCE mass network outage happened late last year, during the modrem event, I now have a habit of leaving a PING window opened up to get the network response from the map servers.
What I had observed was whenever I get d/c, there is no ping response back from the map server while I can still see myself in-game and nothing is responding.
As soon as I’m kicked back to the toon selection screen, ping response returns back to normal; at unlucky times, it happens right before a WB dies and I don’t get rewards for it.
Feels like if it is a DDoS attack denial mechanism?
Not sure 10+ hours (or a bit over 8 hours if you do it through a single session, a bit less if you have the guild booster on) of mindless dolyak escorting is Anet’s idea of fun, at least with badges of honor you have to do some proper WvW to get it.
I would say, yes, making a reward track for it really helps out those ppl in worlds that get ‘bullied’ to get their Gift of Battle done.
However, just my thought from a PvE only perspective and do not do much WvW, and barely any PvP, I think Anet have to recognise the fact that not everyone enjoys WvW or/and PvP, and capping how much progress per tick is not really helping.
I think if Anet can introduce bonus reward track points upon capturing a WvW objective, it could benefit activities in WvW. Helps players to complete their tracks a bit faster, and may also generate some more incentive for non WvW players to play WvW.
looks like it was some network issue on anet side, because the ping to login server was fine, any where else in game and forum the ping was avg 2500
Question about video card requirements (HoT)

I upgraded graphics card only on my rig from 680 to 980Ti, only 1-2 fps improvement with everything set to high
Simple question back to OP, with the assumptions of there will be a GW3 in say, 2 years? and you’ve got all legendary weapons and armors.
And the Dev team decided, “we are gonna give all GW3 players a few free ‘heritage’ skins base on the set of legendary achievements they have completed in GW2.” Then someone that only plays GW3 comes along, and ask “give us access to those ‘heritage’ skins”.
How do you feel? and how would you respond to their request?
Open up Resource Monitor, go to Disk, expand Disk Activity and check, my reads are only ~20kb spikes every now and then for Gw2.exe.
have you check the manufacturer’s bloatwares aren’t the actual culprit?
What SSD are you using? Some bundled SSD software have settings like ‘Max Reliability’ that will slow down, but usually not very noticeable.
I think the fix is, stop playing games at work?
Not really. I know some prominent Twitch streamers don’t don’t play on 10. Maybe due to stream software compatibility issues. Even here we have a weekly thread in Technical asking about Win 10 and this game.
Until we are have a series of predominate games that show significant improvement with Dx12, we aren’t going to see a rush to upgrade.
Yeah, that’s why I think more devs may be into vulkan, since it can run on Windows 7 machines.
It’s a very well designed map, but I have to agree with it’s extremely confusing.
I think the issue, and myself often in the same boat, is that the mini map and world map is not filtering out upper and lower levels enough. This a bit of the same case for path to the golem hp at AB.
I would look at the world map, plan my path, and start running. By the time i get there, I can’t get onto the path that I tried to get on because the path is actually on a different level. facepalm WP back and try to figure out a new route.
Getting quite annoyed by spamming from all these gold sellers, like 15-20 spams in 5 minutes.
is it possible to implement an auto block messaging system?
when players reports an account for gold selling hit certain threshold, that account is blocked from all chat channels automatically until the owner of the account send request to anet to unblock them? which the admins would have reviewed the request and history and ban the account permanently. Of course admin can unban the account from chat channels if players reported the wrong person by mistake after review.

hi all, OP here, thanks for all the responses.
Yes, sorry, the title of the post is a bit misleading. (45 character limit)
Like I have said, not everyone will agree with my point of view.
first of all, discussion of my own view as casual.
Yes, i would agree it is all down to mentality and personal views; I come on, fight some WB, then sit around and wait around to do the next WB, and that takes about most of my online time, then find and participate in fractal and one HoT map meta with the remaining time.
Some people will call my online time and activities as hardcore. (my personal view of hardcore player is someone who stays on 8 hours or more a day and do the same content during a single online session; yes, i’m gonna get flamed for this)
Of course, like some will tell me, why not just put all my online time into farming for the crafting materials or gold.
second, yes, I am already on ascended gears on 2 of my toons (different types) from 7 months of game play. And yes, I do enjoy playing higher tier fractals.
I have switched stats on my gears on my ascended gears.
thrd, regarding the buying gold, like I have said, it’s a possible scenario.
I do know a GW2 vateran player who went down this path, and has gotten a temporary ban for his action.
What I’m questioning, is the relative costs/efforts required to switch to the new stats in HoT, which requires 5-10 times the costs/efforts required compared to the existing stats, considering the base materials require from them are from HoT maps only.
If Areana net would like people to try out the new stats they have created, should they not make the efforts/costs required to craft the insignia/inscription to be about the same scale as others so that it’s more acessible?
And considering the limited online time a lot of people have, they usually would farm for these materials while they do the map meta.
i would not mind if anet raise the fixed based costs/efforts of crafting ascended weapon/armor, (but that will be unfair to the newer players) , but the variables attached to the gears should be about the same, if not a bit more.
As we all know, anet tunes the mechanics and build stats every now and then, and a better meta may be required, chances that the old stats that you are running may require a full refresh.
When the costs/efforts is not in balance, would the player not question him/herself, to throw away all those efforts or stay in an inferior build, and have the sense that you are not contributing to your team at the best of what you possibly can?

Dear Anet,
first of all, sorry i’m ranting here.
secondly, sorry if i’m double posting.
I’m posting this on my thoughts of your team’s comments prior to HoT’s launch that your team wants to have players to try out other build variants, and what I found that really turn me off, a casual player.
I know some hardcore players will probably flame me for what I’m going to say below.
Just some background on how long I have played GW2 (excluding GW1), and how frequent I play and what most of my time spent on during my play time, which other casual players may or may not share.
I started playing GW2 about 7 months ago, and I spent about 5-6hours a day playing, sometimes double the hours on weekends.
Each day I would spend 3-4hours on WB follow by about 1hr on fractal, the remaining time exploring tyria, map meta events, and occasionally story.
So, with the above frequency i spent on in-game contents, I finally saved enough to go for ascended armors, bought the new recipes and was really excited to try out the new Viper states.
However, when I opened up my crafting list and scrolled down to check out materials I need to craft the new ascended insignia, excitement turned to grieve, and a feeling of lost of hopes.
To craft just one of these insignia, just base on the cost of the material from TP, it’s equivalent to 300g. If to farm for the material, as a casual player, it’s going to take months.
To hardcore players, it probably will not take that long to either gather 1200g or farm for the materials, but to the casual players that wanting to try out new builds with the new stats introduced in HoT, it’s becomes extremely agonising experience of repetitive grind, which will probably end up with one of these scenarios.
- Buy gold off 3rd party sites. (I think your team is probably well aware that players wanting to experience more of your contents may turn to this, especially with the current gem to gold ratio, which the cost of gem pretty much doubled in the last 6 months)
- Stay in existing build, most likely Berzerker and become bored.
- Stay in the lower grade Exotic gears, get left behind from the new harder contents because they are still getting their gears (I’m pretty sure you know what I’m talking about since your team made the comments on twitch)
This is not simply a new stat to us players, but a huge amount of investment from the players themselves, that can turn into just a single virtual copper coin with a change of design directions from your team.
so Anet, if your team want more build diversities in your player base, and wanting players to do more fun things in your game and progress onto all these additional contents in your team put so much hard work into.
Please don’t turn away from GW2’s design philosophy inherited from GW1.
Please be considerate to those players that can only play after their 9to5 work.
Please be considerate to those players that have a family to look after, and see your game a way to relief their daily stress.
Please be considerate to the health of all your players, they need to stand up, walk around and exercise a bit, have some face to face communications to their peers and families rather than glued to panel of tiny light bulbs all day.

ok, the latest patch went in just then totally screwed my game, tried all my toons, which are at different areas of the world, all of them just stuck on map load, with STATE_SERVER_WAIT, then eventually gives up with

Please check your Internet connection (I was just IN THE GAME and finished up KQ before logging out for patching) and try again. (MANY times with all 10 of my toons) (Code=1083:5:7:1595:101)

Ok so maybe look at this. 2 reputable becnhing sites showed that the highest overclock DOES NOT REALLY IMPROVE GAMING PERFORMANCE>. I even linked a video that shows pretty much the same thing.
Another good example of CPU dependent game is Rome Total War 2, you will see a lot of ppl complaining about how the game is killing their CPU while their GPU arent doing much.
Espec Character limit – Character Quality ! They’re the heaviest on cpu.Put those to Low to avoid crashes from happening in WvW/boss events where there’s 100 – 150+ people on your screen.
yeah, seems something wrong with the highest character texture, my game would just crash with me doing absolutely nothing, i.e. minimize the game and back… BOOM!!! “Windows cannot allocate enough memory to GW2.” WTF?! I can see my machine still got about 4GB of free memory before I minimized.
my tip, stay ranged.
my client would often crash if i go up close at teq, KQ and claw that i stopped using my guardian and use my mage and ranger for wb.
Havent had a crash with this method for the past month.
Need some advice regarding hardware upgrade

depending on what games you want to play on it.
if you are only going to play GW2, you will hit a CPU bottleneck like my rig, I suggest you get a mid range or a last generation one like a GTX780 or GTX960 that you can still have on high settings.
a beastie CPU, because GW2 is more CPU dependent.
and run the game off SSD of course, my load time into LA was cut down to just 1/3 of the load time when I was on a Seagate Baracude 7200RPM HDD with a Samsung EVO 850.
if you check a lot of the online resource, you would know that this game is a CPU dependent game than GPU, you arent getting any higher fps is due to the CPU.
I’m not getting anything better than you with my inferior CPU and superior GPU.
Only way to get better fps is for anet implement something to move the processing of the skills animations to GPU instead of CPU, or at least an option to turn down the skills’ animations.
(edited by crepuscular.9047)
where are you from?
there is an issue with SEA connections lately, began during the Mordrem Invasion event, basically all players in the SEA region had connection issues unless use a VPN connection.
The root cause is at the telia.net routers in Sweden that most traffic SEA network goes through to US IPs would have over 50% package drop at certain time of the day; lately seems to be starting from 7:00AM UTC and lasts for an hour. (Teq just happened to be on, grrrh)
do a tracert 64.25.33.63 see if you go through them.
think the technical architecture of the game design decisions for GW2 has been “get as many copies to run on our potential customers’ office laptops as possible” from the very beginning.
(edited by crepuscular.9047)
Where most games use GPU to do the processing in game. but GW2 seems to only use GPU to render the graphics, most of the processing is happening at the CPU for GW2, even skill animations.
I recently upgraded my GPU from GTX780 to GTX980 Ti, while idling in LA i can see it hitting over 60 fps up from 45 fps (my monitor is 60 Hz, so no point set my fps cap to unlimited, because im not gonna see a difference).
But at world boss, it just drops right down to 16-20 fps, the same as my 780.
With each additional new contents put into the game with each patch, there would be more processing to be done.
use MSI Afterburner or other CPU+GPU monitoring tools, and you can see that despite you are doing something in GW2 that puts a lot of load on your rig, your CPU is picking up, but your GPU doesnt increases much.
just to share a funny experience, i once started the game without patching is finished, and was getting 60 fps at world boss because none of the skills animation contents have downloaded yet.

Which Nvidia driver version works for GW2
in Account & Technical Support
Posted by: crepuscular.9047
i dont really play much other games than GW2, so cant really tell you a lot, but when I updated my driver to 35×.xx, i noticed the game crashing a lot more often when i engage in close combat, so i reverted back to 347.25; basically it was pretty much crashing at every Teq, Claw, KQ where ppl just pile up and beat the crap at a single place.
even after reverted back, i still getting the crashes, but not as often. I think it’s really down the codes of GW2 because when i picked up the game again 4 months ago it was fine, but with each patch starting from the LA rebuild, my game just starts to crash like once every few days to few times a day.
I agree with what Silmar Alech.4305 says, if it’s happening for all your games, you may have issue with your hardware. I have had a PSU starting to fail on me, and any game i played was crashing every 5-10min; the worst case was the whole PC reboots.
(edited by crepuscular.9047)
the idea of this event is good, i do enjoy the concept, but the way it rewards players really badly designed i think.
i think the fundamental flaw is how Invasion Defender boon is rewarded; it give you 1 boon no matter whether you get bronze or gold for each defense, making people (i have to admit, i do it myself also) just runs into a defense land couple of hits and runs off to the next one, not rewarding players who actually stays and helps completing the defense.
from my personal view, how to make this event better (and future events similar to this)
- bonus reward for how many successful defense by the entire map (like Dry Top tier based merchant)
- bonus boons for those who get silver and additional for gold reward for individual defense, this encourages players to stay longer to help complete the defense
and now im just throwing ideas in the air.
would be cool to add in some sort of zone based territorial control,
every round (30min with 60min break per zone) will be a fight over control over a zone.
What determines win/lose at the end of each round is base on number of winning map instances / (total number of instances / 2) vs number of instances that lost. So there will be constant battles across all 3 zones, and people will taxi to a difference instance to help those in need.
i.e. 5 map instances
If 3 wins, 3/(5/2) = 1.2 < 2 map instances that lost = zone control by Mordrem.
But if 4 wins, 4/(5/2) = 1.6 > 1 map instances lost, citizens of tyria controls the zone.
So what the community does, does affect the outcomes of the world.

same here, well not just the game, even connecting to guildwars2.com is having issue.
did couple of pings and trace route, looks like the route going to login server and guildwars2.com is having issues.
connection to 64.25.38.51 = massive amount of packet drops
connection to 64.25.40.116 = perfect, no packet drop
connection to guildwars2.com = massive amount of packet drops
comparing the results, the point of failure are the *.telia.net routers
because as you can see, the only difference in the route is after leaving my ISP and before entering NCSOFT (62.115.10.106)
