Whenever I fire up GW2, my GFX card goes nuts; it makes this very laudable “electrical whirring” sound that reacts to the graphics (spinning the camera around changes the pitch and sound of the noise). If I alt-tab out of the game it goes away completely.
I do not get this with any other game. I’m worried and suspect it might be a hardware malfunction in which case I hope and pray my warrant covers the card, but I figured I might as well try making a thread about it.
The GFX card has not been altered or overclocked or anything. I am also not entirely sure it is my GFX card, but to me that seems like the most probably culprit given the nature of the problem.
install evga precision, run as admin and u can higher the fan. i need to do that with my superclocked version and it works excellenty.
Hi,
I am an ex WoW roleplayer but now finally after five years I have given up and decided that it’s time to move on. My main character is a level 60 warrior on Piken Square, his name is Siddius if someone might be interested in making an RP guild.
I have been leading several RP-guilds on WoW before with very different storylines and/or themes, so it’s up to you and me to discuss what it all will be about. I don’t seem to find anyone in game so giving forum announcement a try.
Either PM me on the forum or contact Siddius Star on Piken Square.
Low FPS with 2500k, 2x6950s, 12.10 driver/cap

typical eye cannot detect movement faster than 32 fps. Why do you need a higher frame rate? unless you plan on recording video and then reviewing it in slow-mo. (or is it just for bragging rights?)
4.4Ghz doesn’t mean a whole lot without the # of cores or actual processor name (architecture is important). The second you OC you lose all support from everyone ever btw. Power supply either works, or doesn’t, no need to mention it; certainly wont affect frames. Try running with 1 graphics card (or disable crossfire). define “clean format” did you completely format your hard drive, and install nothing but drivers and GW2? Update your drivers for everything & disable as many processes as possible Anything that shows your user name next to it in task manager can be ended (don’t end taskmgr though). Then try running GW2 right from the task manager.
I run max settings w/ v-sync at ~30fps 1920×1080 resolution on my laptop, not over clocked, core i7 (Q840) @ 1.87GHz, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850 (1Gb ded & 3Gb shared), DX10, 8GB RAM, off a SSD. Internet speeds of 25 down 5 up.
I can see huge diffference between 30 and 300 FPS mate.
By the way, I lag with gtx 680 and i5 2500k 4.2. The game is unoptimized as kitten.
Same FPS as you, nearly exactly the same but with an i5 2500k on 4.2 ghz and a single GTX 680. The game is pooooorly optimized making it no difference wether you have sli gpus or not. Overclocking your cpu might help though.
Off topic:
I’m buying that samsung monitor you use, how is it?
This site has good comparisons on ‘overall’ performance on each card.
http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html
I would go with the 560ti imo. Though i’ve always stuck to Nvida so i guess im bias :P
EDIT: bassicaly anyhing above 3160 points on that site is good for GW2 on Max settings native sampling ..with FPS betwen 45 and 60 when the CPU can keep up.
Anything above 4200 points should be able to max GW2 out and ‘possibly’ super sampling and not drop below 60fps unless the CPU is bottlenecked (like WvWvW)
Then the 600 series are bugged. Because I get as low as 16 in big wvw zergs with gtx 680 and i5 2500k 4.2
Hardware Spec:
i5 2500k 4.2ghz
EVGA gtx 680 superclocked
ms-7673
8 gb ram
windows 7
All maxed out:
PVE: 25-110
cities 25-50
pvp: 50-80
wvw: 15-35
fix this anet..
I got gtx 680 and i5 2500k 4.2 and I can’t even run it on lowest settings in wvw and get 30+ FPS. the game is in a bad shape, thats it.
Stop lie, Swordbreaker. I go down to 16 FPS in WvW and I got a gtx 680 and i5 2500k 4.2. I get 15% gpu usage under this circumstances which proves that its my cpu that is bottlenecking in this game, even if its top notch (i7 3930 3.7 equally expect HT). This game is hugely CPU heavy, HUGELY, and an I7 is to prefer.
Hello. I’m preparing to build a new pc. If someone got the same pc as me, please tell me how it works in pve/wvw.
Intel core i5 3570k
ASUS P8B75-M LX
Radeon HD7950 3GB DDR5
8 GB DDR3 1333/1600
HDD 1TB SATA III
Fatal1ty 750W Modular
Win7 ultimate 64-bitThanks.
Alot of bad reviews on that motherboard, windows 8 is released tomorrow, pertty much overkill on the PSU. Also not 1333/1600 ram just 1600
EDIT what are you paying for that and where are you buying your parts (website link) also are you reusing anything from your curent PC. You did not say what PC case your using or CD/DVD drive, or your monitor rez, and what CPU cooler your getting. You could have alot of wasited $ or not be planing right and cost more $
Don’t spread false knowledge dude. Windows 8 is worse than Windows 7 in gaming.
I can run BF3 ultra @60fps but GW2 drops fps still?..

Posted by: dacooli.6712
The lowest FPS i get is about 40.
it still sucks..
My PC’s worth around the 1.6k$, and there’s a problem with the game that I paid 60 bucks to play with 60 FPS only. (Can get used to play with around 40 FPS in crowded places).40FPS in crowded areas is very respectable in an MMO. Remember, MMO’s and regular games (even multiplayer games) are two very different beasts.
One thought did occur to me however, if all you max out at is 60 FPS, you might have the frame limiter enabled in game. I did when I first started playing and it did the same until I disabled it. Now I max out at times in excess of 100 FPS (occasionally).
I’ve got 16 in WvW, now that is not respectable from a gtx 680 and i5 2500k 4.2. Anet must fix it now.

My computer is 4 years old and I can still run this game awesomely. It only ever drops to about 25 fps is very crowded areas, like lion’s arch. 99% of the time I’m getting 40-60 fps. All settings are on max except sampling which is on native.
i7920@4gh
2x(4890s)
1920×1080pAnd again, this computer is 4 years old, I can’t even imagine the performance I would be getting if my computer was newer.
Get some knowledge. It doesn’t stack like that. A low end computer seems to perform better than the un optimized amd 7000 serie and nvidia 600 serie.
GW2 is still CPU Bound (straight from Nvidia)
in Account & Technical Support
Posted by: dacooli.6712
When I drop in FPS in GW2 my gpu usage also drops which is a sign of bad optimize OR cpu heavy. And it is cpu heavy in that case, since I got i5 2500k 4.2.
LOL, i get 16 fps as lowest in wvw and in big zergs usually like 16-25 so no way ull be over 30.
so my poor performance is like.. normal? so all these ppl claiming to have 30-40 fps in wvw, steady 60-120 fps with no drops in pve are lying? kittening kittens in that case, haha. someone just told me that and had a i5 3570 on stock and gtx 670…
he sorta did post PC spec, at least the important ones. gtx680 and core i5 2500 @4.2ghz.
Neways, read this
http://forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/support/tech/FPS-GPU-CPU-Performance-issues-FAQshould answer your questions on your issues.
It does not really do that, everything it says is that this issue is at my end which it is not.
Actually I did give you my CPU, i5 2500k 4.2, please read in the future.
Are NVIDIA video cards poor for running the game?

Notsureiftrolling…
Nvidia card run this game sweet, your particular 6year old Nvidia video card will not however. Your at exactly minimum requirements. Minimum requirements = slideshow with ANY PC game.
Hope this helps.
Are you trolling? I got issues with my gtx 680 in GW2.
All maxed out including supersampling my performance can go as low as 20 in pve, in big events, 27 just running around as lowest, and average can be around 40-50-60 and even 70 in some areas. Even more as max FPS perhaps. In wvw I think I got 16 fps as lowest. I’ve tested with 3dmark and i get around 9400-9600 points on my gtx 680 superclocked and i5 2500k 4.2 so nothing wrong on my computer, not on my power plan, not wrong drivers.
So what’s wrong with it? When I drop my gpu usage drops aswell.
I can’t max it with gtx 680 so no, you should not max it.
issues with gtx 680 and i5 2500 4.2 still… kittenit, this games optimize is really crappy :///
I struggle with gtx 680 and i5 2500k 4.2. I think you need a really good computer.
At the high res, your system will be having issues trying to keep up. The GTS250 even OC, is not going to do anything.
The performance from it is not capable of doing what it can.dacooli.6712 you cannot compare boardlands 2 to GW2. Different game. You need to look at what is causing the issue in your system.
Also your network can cause lower fps if you cannot properly relay info from your system to anet, or receive the info from anet to you.
You need to start and find solutions to help or dont post.
There are no solutions since this isn’t at my end. I got my proof after doing CPU and GPU heavy benchmarks.
Thank you Dacooli. I tend to agree with you that the problem lies in the game itself.
All my posts seems to go away, oh well.
Yeah, I found two people just asking in general “anyone with gtx 670/680”? and both had problems. also seen alot with the radeon 6000 serie + 7000 serie have the problem, also some in the 500 serie. but not all, thats the weird thing. well i dunno, it can just be a bug with some hardware not working properly in this game.
Radium, I’ve tried everything to make this issue go away. You might want to try this out;
high performance energy scheme
overclocking (3.3 ghz to 4.2 gave me 30+ FPS plus 200% better stability)
check your temps, you can adjust your fans if you are heating.
test your FPS in 3dmark and heaven benchmark and compare to others, see if this is on your end.
i did and i tried alot of other games aswell and came to the conclusion that this game has got problems and not my computer. don’t worry, im sure anet will fix this sooner or later
Will I be able to run the game on high settings?

I’m giving him information about my performance in this game and he might come to the conclusion that it is on anets end. Just helping him out, I know how it is, being worried.
I got issues with gtx 680 and i5 2500 4.2. This is at anets end, not ours. Just wait or quit playing, as I have. i might come back in some months to see if the issue is resolved while I enjoy playing Borderlands at 60-200 FPS
Lotrfish.
AMD is currently not workign well with GW2 so thats most likely your problem.
UmbrellaWolf.
I cant explain why you suddenly droped fps if indeed you were getting high fps before hand. unless ofcourse you changed your game settings. However i do think your cpu is rather slow for a game like GW2. 1.6ghz is very slow.
Double check that u are in the same area where you got your high fps, have the same settings, have the same programs running in the background, have the same programs installed (whether running or not) , along with same graphics drivers. If any of those are different ..then that would be the place to start.
So, explain why I got fps issues with gtx 680 SC edition + i5 2500k clocked to 4.2? The game is poor optimized, thats it, especially for high end cards.
dacooli.6712
We have similar system, no problem for me. You having graphical or network lag? Big difference in what lag is?muslumgurseks.4951
If your having a slideshow effect, something in your hardware is causing this. Not every software can work on every system. 2 people can have the identical system, one will work the other issues. its on how your system was configured.
Then I’m just unlucky to have a bugged hardware at anets end. I ran the 3d mark and heaven benchmark and nothing is at my end. kitten you anet
Game not broken. See no issues atm, except broken events. Not in the graphical area.
Best is to overclock your cpu to at least 3-3.2ghz. You’ll need a good heatsink and proper airflow.
I got 4.2 i5 2500 and gtx 680. So yes, it is broken, I lag with this.
I can drop to 16 in huge zergs with my i5 2500 4.2 and gtx 680. its different card to card, it may work excellent.
Sometimes it’s 90-100 average, sometimes its 70-80 average (VERY rare) but most of the time 110-130, yes.
Not lying. My highest is 160.
A little tip: If you want AMD. Wait a few weeks. Their new next gen bulldozer named Piledriver Vishera CPUS will be out early – mid october. (FX-4300, 6300. 8350etc)
Buy a rig with the new FX-4300 instead. It probably cost the same as that one.
Buying a CPU 2 weeks before the new updated ones releases is never a good idea, as the prices will drop alot when they come out.Its the CPU that matters in this game. I just updated from a Radeon HD 5850 1gb to the best single card in the world, the HD radeon 7970 3gb GHZ edition. (sorry dacooli:P) atleast it is for this game. https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/bill-freist-talks-optimization-and-performance And i barely noticed any difference. That proves that my CPU is bottle necking. And i got it OC’ed. so it should be on the same line as a 4100. (yes phenom2’s have better performance/mhz than fx) so i would go for a piledriver OR intel if i was you to keep the CPU from being the bottleneck as mine is now.
GTX 680 is better than amd radeon 7970, nearly every benchmark says that and it’s known. BTW, it also got physx which amd radeon haven’t got. gtx 680 is the best.
Maffia 2 isn’t borderlands. I’m always 80-100% cpu usage in borderlands 2. that game requires alot of cpu, so does this game.
I hit maybe 80% CPU in borderlands 2 as well. I have PhysX set to GPU and I average probably 80-90 FPS with everything maxed out.
Anyone that argues using CPU for PhysX over an nvidia GPU is either using an AMD card or they have no idea what they’re saying.
I didn’t say that physx is cpu heavy gosh.. I run around 120 average in that game man. but i can dip to 40-60 in worst cases
Maffia 2 isn’t borderlands. I’m always 80-100% cpu usage in borderlands 2. that game requires alot of cpu, so does this game.
I got issues with my gtx 680 which is the best single card in the world (expect 690 which is 2 carded), + i5 2500k 4.2. So probably not and definately not over 30 fps in wvw.
Though, mid cards seems to perform well in this game, so maybe, maybe not. be sure to buy a good cpu cooler aswell.
Still got issues with my gtx 680 and i5 2500 4.2.
Nvidia said that they can’t do anything else to optimize the game with drivers and that they recommend overclocking CPU since it’s very cpu heavy and not very GPU heavy. So yeah..
yes, it gave 14 fps difference in Borderlands 2 and when i overclocked my i5 2500k from 3.3 to 4.2 i got 50 fps in gw2. It does affect certain games, and no gtx 670 and i5 2500k wont max all games, like witcher 2 with supersampling, GTA IV it will struggle with, it won’t max sleeping dogs with extreme AA, not metro either. so dont give false info.
Terrible choice of games to list friend.
Witcher 2 doesn’t run well on any config with ubersampling. Ubersampling is a joke.
GTA IV is the epitome of a bad port, everyone knows this.
Sleeping Dogs has a bug with the extreme AA setting, they’ve said so on the forums. Besides that, it’s almost the same thing as ubersampling which is not usable unless you’re running 2 690s in SLI rollseyes
Metro 2033 is also known for being a really poorly optimized game.Even with my two 670s Metro doesn’t run amazingly, and I get maybe 30-40 FPS average in The Witcher 2 with ubersampling on. None of those games ever max out my CPU because the CPU isn’t bottlenecking.
I used to run a single 670 and my i5-2500k, and never had trouble with any games. That includes Guild Wars 2. "Unless he’s planning on using a 3D monitor, he doesn’t need to go above 60 FPS.
Listen, there are tons of “i5 vs i7” threads on tomshardware.com and the outcome is always the same; stick with the i5 if you’re gaming because the performance gains from the i7 are marginal if any. I’m not sure why you’re so set on getting the OP to waste his money.
I still dip to 20s in big zergs in WvW, so he can forget 60 FPS all the time.
Crazy because I really rarely ever dip that low in WvW or even huge world events. I am running two 670s, but if the i5 was the problem that wouldn’t matter. The i5 always keeps up just fine.
As I said, my small overclock gave me massive improvement, like 50 FPS in pve and alot of stability. so this game is very cpu dependent.
This is true, the game is very CPU dependent. It will not be that way forever though. A big part of it is bad GPU support, especially for the new 600 cards. They have said it’s going to be resolved at some point.
.. No they said that they’re lookin’ into it, SWTOR did aswell and it just got fixed like 2 weeks ago.

Hi all,
I want to buy the new PC in the next few days.
Can i get recommendations regarding the best GFX card that will support mainly this game but also others ( currently Borderlands2 & XCOM) ?Thanks
I got gtx 680 and I got issues in this game but overall it’s amazing, for games like Borderlands 2. I get for the most part 90-150 FPS there but can dip even to 40 ive seen, but my normal drops is reasonable enough, 50-70 (note that these 40s drops are only in big physx explosive combat fights). It’s a beautiful game, but with the ati card you won’t be able to play with physx, without a good processor. I would recommend the GTX card in this case AND a good processor since i7 3770 gave 14 more fps than i5 2500 in benchmarks, stock, but if you clock the i5 2500 to 4,5 it will perform like a 3,9 3770 in gaming. Good luck with Borderlands 2, it’s a really great game!
^
It’s cause your computer is low end, they are known to be running mmos better. My temps are all fine, all temps expect gpu under 50, and gpu like 60 (celsius)
-MOST- of my pve lag and stutering while moving around camera is solved, and overall the camera moving lag is gone. but still got low FPS in wvw, and alot of ppl with same card experiences it. don’t worry guys, you are not alone. this is anets fault.
Most people got issues with the 600 series indeed. Anet must fix this in order to maintain a fair playerbase.
AMD cpu’s have bad performance with GW2 …and in general ..even with a high clock. checkout Tomshardware GW2 performance review. The AMD’s have ALOT lower fps.
I got issues with my i5 2500k 4.2 and gtx 680 though.
Well, “son”, you once again fail to grasp the basic point.
The basic point being that each game is unique and each game will have it’s own conflicts that can easily be rectified at your end. Especially in cases where the issue is not affecting everyone.
I suggest that you either ask for help properly or stop posting. I’m reporting you for trolling, as it is.
I’m helping the devs understand. It’s not at my end since my com is top notch for all games. Fix it anet. goodbye
And once again, no dxdiag, no game advisor text, no details on RAM.
“No program at all” in the background is again, obviously not correct as there are drivers, AVs, system processes and whatnot constantly running in the background.
You say “recommended drivers” but then again, specifically don’t mention version numbers. You’ve made no mention of audio drivers, chipset drivers, BIOS version.
Do you see? You just post empty information that’s of no practical use.
I’m not trying to say your system is faulty, which you take great umbridge at, I’m trying to explain to you that saying “this benchmark score is good so nothing in my system can possibly be interfering with the game” is just not true, at all.
In fact you’ve made so many useless posts in the last few days I’ve completely forgotten what your actual problem is – is it crashing or FPS?
Yes my friend it is. Same with playing all other games as I should, + all benchmarks and tests, only game i got an issue with is this game. its the logic itself son. And I gave you my specifiations. I don’t need to post anything else than ive done since i know that theres no solution here at my end, only on anets end. accept it.
