BW3 Difficulty Nerf [merged]

In addition to this, it would be nice to eventually see some of the difficulty of the earlier betas of the main game return as well. Enemy AI used to be at least somewhat intelligent but for three years now we’ve mostly fought enemies that blindly charge you and maybe use one or 2 skills.

Being a “casual” MMO does not mean that it have to be skill-less to play. I would much rather have a game where the content is challenging due to smart enemies and mechanics with minimal gear grind.

Just an angry old man…

Hello developers,

First and foremost I want to say that I appreciate the hard work you guys have put into everything lately – I know it’s crunch time and that many of you are working extraneously long hours in order to fulfill a deadline, it’s been apparent since the streams at Twitchcon. I know everything isn’t going 100% according to plan, but that’s what beta-testing is for.

Now, I would like to raise the point that the open world content difficult for this Beta Weekend Event (BWE3) has been toned down too far – I think I speak for many players when I say that with Heart of Thorns, we were expecting a greater challenge, both from “challenging group content” as well as the A.I. utilized by monsters throughout the open world.

From my experience today, which has been echoed by many other players both in-game and other forums such as Reddit, the content has been far easier – I think this is a mistake. I’ve even noticed that specific monsters have been removed from the map altogether, which I also feel is a mistake. I think allowing open world content to present itself as a challenge incentivizes players to not only learn mechanics that don’t present themselves purely by scratching the surface, but it also encourages open world communication – it requires players talk to one another and self-organize, something I believe the game is lacking throughout most of its open world content.

I also believe I speak for a large pool of players when I say that myself and others were relatively happy with the way the open world content was tuned during the previous Beta Weekend Event (BWE2). It felt difficult, but didn’t present itself as an impossibility or cause frustration. Simply put, it really felt close to perfect.

Many of us are afraid that through your own fear that content may frustrate players, or be too difficult for them, that you will drastically tune down the difficulty of open world content as you’ve done several times in the past – Tequatal and Orr both being notable examples of this.

So – I’ve made this post to urge you not to keep the current turning for open world content, to revert the turning to the difficulty presented to us during BWE2. I believe that this would not only be a welcome change from most players, but that in doing so, it would create positive changes within the game itself as well.

So please Arenanet, re-tune open world content so that it’s more difficult – provoke skilled play and communication within your player base, and allow the mechanics to shine brighter than they ever have before.

Sincerely,

Shamari, and many other players.

Anet asked the testers to check out these areas during the next BWE (https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/the-second-beta-weekend-event-begins-september-4/). I’d thought I post it up in bullet form so its easier to read, and add a few that are no brainers, but still work for a checklist. I’d suggest keeping a notepad beside you as you test.

Collections: Non-RNG precursors!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Waikd.4632

Waikd.4632

The collections system that will arrive with the feature pack tomorrow includes several difficult scavenger hunts. The enchanted Treasure Chest collection for example (see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6N8v43D1H0&list=UUYUY9_i44IDNOs_Ja815mlA#t=1121 ), encourages you to explore Tyria and collect a large amount of obscure and rare items. Seeing collections like this one got me thinking, wouldn’t collections be a perfect platform for a non-RNG way to get a precursor?

I envision a precursor collection as a ‘hidden’ collection that you can buy from a collection vendor once you hit level 80. Every precursor could have a different, and themed collection (as far as this is possible). Upon finishing the collection, a specific (account-bound) precursor is the reward. This system could encourage you to (re-)play different parts of the game, and these items should not be items you can simply buy off the TP.

E.g. for The Chosen (Precursor for the legendary shield The Flameseeker Prophecies), the collection could include things like:

  • Several named exotic shields
  • A reward from the final personal story step
  • A dragon finisher
  • Collectible books from heart vendors
  • Rare drops from some dungeons/ world events
  • An ascended shield
  • Many more obscure and hard-to-get items.

Anyway im giving up on this game … and if you all want to be honest with yourself, then you should do the same.

I am sorry that you don’t like the game any more (ever?), but this part always makes me laugh, whenever anyone says it, or the similar “I’m leaving now, and because I’m going, it has failed, because I’m the benchmark”.

Are we in a teen boy-meets-girl comedy, and this is the part where the girl breaks up with the jock at the party and everyone has stopped and staring at the jock, and he’s all flustered, and says the inane thing that he says and follows it with, “Come on guys, lets go”, and none of his buddies seem eager to follow him?

Please tell me I’m not going to have to race you down the K-12.

Recently I wasn’t so much as sad, but angry and super protective when

Early on playing, I killed a bear and when I did 3 bear cubs came out of a nearby cave to attack me. I understand they’re just pixels and not real, yet at the time I felt kinda sad. Few years ago I wouldn’t have seen anything else than more targets to kill, I guess having kids really does change how you see things.

The death of a certain left handed Charr. I’ve done the stories of all three orders, but that one is the one that felt the biggest one.

Let’s just remove the Z-axis so noone ever jumps ever again.

Really though, there is one difficult set of jumps in Dry Top, and it was for the goggles. The rest are just “hit 1, press W”

If jumping makes your eyes bleed, a.) get that checked out, b.) any game with a Z-axis and uses a spacebar is not for you.

I have personally forgot the amount of jumping that is required because it was so miniscule and unintrusive, that it was a non factor.
