just do clarify its 25% of 1 map which implies there are more maps coming, not sure how many you are expecting as this is an expansion, my expectation is probably 4 full size maps plus i believe living world will release more maps. as it stands right now any content whether its 2 maps or just 1 i will be happy do leave this contentless lul, im really looking forward to living world returning (but im probably in the minority)

I have to agree with both EnlightenedNavigator and Coulter here I do find there is too much negativity on the forums where some of this is warranted some of it is just isn’t and i think where critique is always a good way to help improve their product too much will just simply cause more bad then good. Where as Coulter is completely right about the time gap,

WARNING NEGATIVITY AHEAD
a company that has supposedly over 300 members should be able to keep the down time at low but it isn’t and it is just unacceptable, I personally am unimpressed that we have to wait so long and i am aware that “we are getting this content for free” but in order to keep people interested and buying into gems etc (like i do on a regular basis) they need to keep it fresh and keep people wanting to log in every 2 weeks, The new feature pack is not enough IMO for such a long gap as it is only minor changes that can be burned through rather quickly like myself (though i hate the new leveling changes).

RANT OVER
I just think they need to take there fingers out and produce content no matter how small for the majority of the players, I just cant see for the life of me the reason for such a sloppy implementation this is my only real gripe with this game.

ON A MORE POSITIVE NOTE
I for one love this game and have not enjoyed any other MMO as much as this and will continue to play this game until it shuts down be it 2 years or 20 years I just want to see the rest of this magnificent world, as a player of the original Guildwars i cant wait to see some more of the old places we visited and make the connection to GW1 be it Sad (Like the sunken lions arch) or a Happy one (Like the Henge of Denravi for me anyways) I do really love this game i just as with many other people want to see it continue to succeed this is why we critique so harshly on most cases

Thanks

GW2 releases Story Journals: Feedback/Questions [Merged]

The new system looks absolutely fantastic! I’ve always called for new content introduced into the game to be permanent, using a similar structure to the Personal Story. The Story Journal is basically what I’ve been asking for; players have all the time in the world to attempt the achievements or work towards the rewards at a time and pace of their choosing.

Paying to unlock past Living Story chapters is a fair trade-off, I think, similar to the Bonus Mission Pack from GW1. One question though: Can only players who have the content unlocked can enter instances relating to LS2? Or is it possible for players to party up with players with the unlocked content to join in anyway?

Just happened onto this comment so I’m sorry if it’s already been answered

I watched the most recent non ready up YouTube video and they mentioned that other players can experience the content with other players but cannot get the rewards etc only the person who accessed the content in the first place gets the achievements and rewards so yeah others can party but you need to access it yourself to get everything

Again sorry if it is already answered but hopefully that put your mind at ease about it

oh don’t get me wrong i can understand the reasoning for them to use the current mapping system, and i understand also that sacrifices have to be made for a stream/portaling system – and though at first it did bother me i have learned to live with it and i can see the shear amount of detail they can use in each map and this would not be possible for the wow style of mapping.

I personally find it quite limiting as it feels less immersive to have the loading screens but the positives do out way the negatives of this system

even wow has different maps loading it is just dealt with differently they use a BSP portaling system that is why it give the illusion of a vast world, and it is just an illusion but it works imo – but as i mentioned in my first post i cant imagine this game keeping its current high level of quality if they implimented such a system so ANET Does benefit with the system as it is – I just would really love it if they did a portaling system like WOW elder scrolls etc but it is more of an asthetics thing – at least if i do get lag etc i know it is my connection and not the map loading in the background

so in conclusion – I can understand the reasons for not having that system in the game though i can see the ops reasoning for not liking it

How do you propose they enable such a transition then.
The zone portals are necessary, you can’t just have an open field that when players reach a certain point they suddenly go to the loading screen. The game is also designed on the GW1 engine which worked in the same way.

The mountains are necessary to obscure the fact that each zone ONLY contains the models for that zone. If you could see beyond them then you would have to render multiple zones at once, which means people’s computers would have to work a lot harder.

What i think he i trying to say is that he wishes that the maps would be more in keeping with other games like WOW or other persistent mmos not just a sudden load screen imo

because lets be honest, this type of mapping is pretty dated tbh they used this type of mapping back in 1999 with games like half life etc they just made it more obvious by adding portals, if i’m honest I would prefer the WOW style of mapping as this would really enhance the scale of the world further and should be a standard for a persistant world mmo, but with the technology they use it is not possible so i have learned to deal with it

Hi from what i understand as cool as it would be they use a heavily modified version of there first game engine which used this current type of zoning although i dont understand how they could not have added it during the engine update but apparantly it is still not possible so they use the mountain range to hide the fact it is only an instanced map

I would love it to be seamless like well nearly all MMO games these days but it is the technology they have to work with so i have learned to live with it, I suppose the one big advantage with this type of mapping is they can add allot more detail per map unlike other games which have to deal with the illusion of seamless mapping, i cant imagine how long the game would take to load if say lions arch before destruction if they had to seamlessly load it in to Kessex hills.

This mapping type is also the reason i think they don’t add mounts etc.

but perhaps in future if they have indeed got a new engine like i heard on the grapevine, this type of mapping maybe replaced with the map stream like other mmos

This is what i understand i maybe wrong but it seems to make sense imo

Tsuru Whitewing - A mini? Or is it?

Actually, that page confirms nothing of the sort. In fact, it explicitly tells you that there were Tengu in the Tarnished Coast, which is part of the Maguuma.

Oh ok thanks for clearing that up seems my geography was a little off as for some reason I got the tarnished coast mixed up I will look into it further but until then I retract my previous statement :-)

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Tengu this confirms that they aren’t from maguuma but it also shows they are not only from Cantha – so if Tengu would become a major part of the story wouldn’t it effectively be when we head to the far shiverpeeks as this would mean they have an opportunity to reclaim some of their lost lands – but it also doesn’t mean that they didn’t eventually have a perch in the maguuma jungle either – so who knows

I personally would love the Tengu as a playable race and this is nothing to do with Cantha i personally was not a fan of that region but many people are so who am i to judge, i do understand that the Tengu originally were going to be added to the list of major races – but for some reason they decided not to do it…..

Tengu Hunter for me – just seems to fit and i love playing hunter though many people dont

Epic Emotion in Lions Arc

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

dgenxp.8650

Yeah I agree the fact that as a player a dedicated player of guildwars since 2005 and watching this city change over the 252 years only to see it all get torn down in just a few weeks really opens up some emotion inside of you – when I first came to guildwars 2 the first thing I wanted to do was find and explore lions arch now its all destroyed – there are people grieving there too which makes it feel quite alive- if I were in this world I too would be in awe – well done ANET I hope this makes people really see what the living world can be about – now time to kill a DRAGON

So..whats next?

hence why the idea i had did not imply we knew of the awakening as we dont actually now the dragon stirred when the drill hit the layline but the threat is coming from the jungle since the bridge was rebuilt in the story i pitched so they are moving in onto krytan turf so action would need to be taken even if at first they do not know what is causing it then they do discover it this is when action by the the two hero factions

A new map of nothing but champions to appease the queensdale crowd.

I lol’d so much at that being someone who is in Queensdale alot (for some reason i really like crafting in claypool) I know exactly what the quoted poster means

But the point of this post – whats next (gonna be pretty long)

I think that after this battle for lions arch is complete the new story could start with there being a letter stating that the bandits have finished there bridge to the maguuma jungle and are becoming increasingly more powerful since.

we as the player will go to investigate this and try to cull there numbers, but when we get there we see a new type of centaur more savage than the harathi and perhaps the harathi themselves feel threatened, so they too are attacking these new centaur.

after we do this event we discover that the bandits and centaur are coming from the maguuma jungle and the more violent centaur are the ones from the woodland cascades. so we go to the location at the other side of the bandit bridge and all kinds of horrors await us..

the pact set up base to try and study what is causing this and discover that they are under the influence of something

we as the player then go deeper into the forest to find out that indeed they are under the influence of something. a new arch enemy appears and it is thought he is controlling these enemies a campaign starts to finish this guy off,

Eventually we find where his lair is and discover he is a lieutenant for an elder dragon, the elder dragon being mordremorth – - – - this should then lead into another PS where the pact DE and DE mk2 hatch a plan to destroy this dragon

this IMO is what i would like to see if i post enough hints on here maybe ANET will take notice lol

What do you think – maybe add you own ideas to it it might be cool

1. A good story that leads to something.

2. A better written villain – I liked scarlet but as a villain not so much she seemed to be more of a villains sidekick to me as none of what she did was because she wanted to – she was just a puppet on a string (lol thought of the marionette when i wrote that)

3.New Maps – i think this is established as we are going to a certain forest in this LS hopefully

I know this about not including an expansion but i would like to say i would love this LS to lead to a new PS as IMO it makes sense to do it – though an xpac would be cool

Season 1 | Lack of Major Male Characters!

in Living World

Posted by: dgenxp.8650

dgenxp.8650

Yes there are allot of female characters if you include DE and DE Mk2 there are 3 Males and 7 females granted but the number of males increases if you include non DE and DE Mk2 characters such as magnus, treesus, Evan Gnashblade, lord Faren and who ever E is (it is implied its a male) the majority of PS characters are male so IMO just because the DE and DE Mk2 are mostly female i think it balances out with other characters that are able to be interacted with just because the Iconicles are mostly female does not represent a bias in my opinion just mainly female coincidentally and why not.

I don’t honestly think ANET said oh we don’t like male characters so lets do a mainly female cast, this is just a coincidence – also i think it might be because the lead writer if the story is female so maybe (as my friend is a story writer too) prefers to write in interesting females in the main cast which is a non issue imo

hehe but as i said its a non issue for me but i also think it is a good thing due to the majority of games are male oriented this makes it stand out apparantly lol

Am I the only one who doesn’t actually care if the cast is male or female dominated it is a non issue to me and if (being male myself) i hadn’t seen this title would i have even noticed the cast is mostly female – nope i play and love this game and it doesn’t matter to me who the main cast consists of as long as they kick butt.

lol i bet the majority of male players on here play as a female character anyways c’mon tell me i’m wrong lol

Living Story Has Killed the Game for me

in Living World

Posted by: dgenxp.8650

dgenxp.8650

Sadly, I can’t relate. Every other game I’ve played (EQ, CoH, SWTOR), and by heresay (WoW) the number one complaint is lack of content (followed by bug fixes, followed by lack of dynamic changes to the world).

I can’t wrap my mind around complaints of too much content, even if it’s (often) temporary. I missed plenty of LS during my break. I’m sure I’ll miss more. I’d rather have LS every 2 weeks, heck, every week even, and miss some, then have LS (or expansion) further apart, then get into “dry spells” of content.

But that’s just me, I guess.

Nope me too – I personally love the living story and the 2 week content (whether permanent or temporary) keeps me logging in, i also strongly believe that while the story has been relatively weak to begin with it can only get better, bring on the LS I want more but ANET don’t forget expansions as well – I think the new LS is leading to one so don’t disappoint OK :P

So in short I like the LS and think that the temporary nature is quite good for character building though some permanent content is very welcomed outside an xpac

Living Story Suggestions

dgenxp.8650

I agree with the storyteller Theory – Though what we have done as players has actually affected the world hence has become part of the lore of the game so it would be impossible to revisit some of the stories for example the cut throat politics patch as this event required players to vote on who they wanted to elect it also had story attached to it which may still confuse people

but other temporary content should be able to be revisited like the tower of kessex hills (even though im pretty sure you can already do this) but all other content as far as i can tell was really zergy so unless many many people wish to do the content again it will be impossible unless they Drastically reduce the HP and difficult of the encounters which would mean , Marionette, Tequatl, Queen Karka, invasion of the Aetherblade, scarlets minions attacking various regions of the map will all be pretty much nerfed to make them able to be done by less than 10 people, not impossible but i dont think that Anet will do such a thing, they provide videos and the new atlas thing to help people catch up.

Expansions are going to happen but they say it wont be in a traditional sense – probable that it will be a living world story that leads to one really really big permanent content patch as the latest living world reveals (im not going to add any spoilers) but i think this chapter of lw will lead up to this content imo

I hope however they add some kind of lore master in game to help players get on track with the story

hope this makes sense
