I don’t know if they’re gonna reward mastery points or anything, I do know I’m saving them in my bank just in case

Me too. But I’m currently going out of my way to do PvE dailies mostly in the hope that they will be useful. If I know they won’t be, I won’t bother anymore.

Tons of recipes use skill points at the moment how are they continuing that (and not destroying the market), when mastery XP takes over normal EXP? i don’t get it. Big problem in the makes. What with existing skill points? I got loads on my chars and i don’t feel like giving them up… (or making them pointless for when I need them).

They’re offsetting the fact that you no longer earn skill points at 80 by giving you them through other means. It’s not clear what exactly those means are, but we already get them through champ bags among other places, so maybe they’ll just increase the drop rates a bit.

Something is kinda odd there, if mastery points will be only to unlock tracks, then points will become useless after you unlock all the tracks, is that how you think it will work?

Correct.

To train a specific Mastery track, you must first unlock it by spending Mastery points. Mastery points are awarded for completing various pieces of game content. Things like completing a chapter in your personal story, completing certain achievements, reaching hard-to-find locations, overcoming challenging encounters, excelling at adventures found within the Heart of Maguuma, or earning 100% completion for a map will award Mastery points. Each Mastery point can be earned once per account, so while Mastery points allow you to unlock Mastery tracks, they are also an indicator of how much of the game you’ve experienced. In fact, once you have unlocked the ability to train Masteries, your nameplate will display the number of Mastery points you have gained rather than your level. Mastery points can be gained at any level but cannot be spent until level 80.

Once you’ve unlocked a Mastery track tier with Mastery points, you can begin training that Mastery. Mastery tracks are trained by gaining experience while the Mastery track is slotted on the Mastery training bar. Higher tiers in Mastery tracks require progressively more Mastery points and more experience to fully train.

Presumably unlocking the higher tiers will require quite a lot of points, but it’s also worth bearing in mind that there will be a finite number of points that can be earned. You get them by completing specific pieces of content, not indefinitely like skill points. There might well be more mastery tracks and tiers than you can unlock with the points available.

ANet already stated that many players will have mastery points as soon as they log, so I don’t see why such item couldn’t be used to get a few mastery points.
Otherwise they would need to give a way to change the Writs for something else since it will turn useless for lvl 80 players.

Mastery points, yes, but points are only used to unlock tracks. To actually earn stuff on those tracks, you need xp.

So veterans may be able to unlock all the tracks on day 1, but they’ll still be earning actual rewards at the same rate as everyone else.

I’m pretty sure training masteries will be similar to gaining levels after level 80, thus gaining experience will just improve your mastery rating. I’m also unclear as to whether masteries will only be available to Heart of Thorns players, or if all players will get masteries and only core will be available to those who lack the expansion. Otherwise, why do they need to add as many new skill points as they seemed to indicate they’ll need?

As for the Tome of Knowledges, do they grant a full experience boost to players at level 80? I’ve been holding on to the tomes as my level 80 characters really do not need level boosts.

Good point. The whole mastery system is only available to people who buy HoT, so it would be weird to give Writs of Mastery in daily chests, unless vanilla players just get Writs of Experience instead. That would also explain why they would introduce them in the first place if they were just planning to make them obsolete later.

Tomes of Knowledge give skill points at 80, so they’ll likely continue to function as they do now.

Well … Writs of Experience gives XP, XP gained goes to the mastery track, so 1 + 1 = 2

That would be logical, but ANet might not want to give people that much of a head start.

That said, maybe they’ll create a way to trade in, say, 20 Writs of Experience for a Tome of Knowledge?

I consider that a pretty strong possibility, it would be a tidy way to give a fresh start. My only argument against this is that they introduced the writs so recently. They must have known what direction they were going with masteries, so why introduce a new item that will just be made obsolete a few months later? And what would they put in the daily chests instead?

Perhaps they’ll do this and Writs of Mastery will replace them in daily chests after HoT launches.

What I understood is that when you “level up” after level 80 you’ll get mastery point instead of skill point, so yes in the end Writs of Experience will give mastery points imo.

Based on the article about the mastery system, I don’t think there will be level ups after 80 anymore. XP gained goes exclusively towards progressing your currently selected mastery track.

Mastery points are earned through other means.

Source:

Because the Mastery training bar completely replaces the experience bar, players who’ve reached level 80 will no longer gain levels but will instead train Masteries.

There’s never going to be a good time. There’s always going to be a few servers moving up/down for whatever reason. But I think the solution to that is to have more frequent tournaments, not wait for better times.

If there’s a tournament every quarter, it becomes the new normal. People will stop bothering to stack/tank and just play. Those that are just in it for the achievements will get bored after the first tournament and leave it to the people that actually enjoy WvW. Everyone will stop worrying about tickets because even if your server does poorly, you’ll get what you want eventually.

I moved from FSP to Gandara (with my guild at the time) some time after random matchups were introduced, so I didn’t play with AG as much as some veterans, and especially not with a Gandaran perspective.

With that said, I always enjoyed reading about the bromance between Gandara and AG and, having been on Gandara for a while now, it’s clear to me that the friendly rivalry between the two did a lot to shape the amazing culture that exists on both servers today, particularly in WvW.

AG might be losing some players, but I’m certain that that culture will remain strong. So if you’re looking for a server that respects skill and independence and values a good fight over sitting on cannons day and night, definitely give them a shot.

Good luck AG!

If graphical anomalies appear in any other title, its a sure fire bet its an issue with the system. I have the 270x myself and I am very happy with it. But its never shown me any artifacting or anomolies. Even on high stress games like Crysis 3 with maxed settings.

It really does sound like its a GPU issue to me. Personally I would rather just have it replaced asap, as I have had similar issues in the past with defective hardware. Troubleshooting parts that are defective from the factory is a nightmare, and I dont envy your current situation.

RMA it and then at least you will know its not the card in future. Remember that when RMA’ing you do not have to provide evidence of the issue. The vendor is legally bound to give you an identical replacement at no charge for a suspected defective product.

Not in South Africa sadly, but your advice is still sound. I’m glad to hear at least you have the same card and aren’t having issues with it.

I’ll send it back today and hope they can reproduce. Thanks.

Have you tried any benchmarking software for the GPU to see if thats affected? You could give the Unigene “Valley Benchmark” a whirl a few times and see how that goes visually.

Yeah, I’ve run Valley a few times, but admittedly I may not have left it alone for long enough.

When it happens in GW2 it tends to affect a particular object. With Valley’s short scenes, objects come and go pretty rapidly, so any issues that pop up might be easy to miss.

I’m a bit torn between continuing testing in GW2 to try and further isolate the fault, and investing the 2 – ? hours it might take to see if the issue occurs in other places, partly because I don’t know whether anyone at my supplier has a GW2 account they’d be willing and able to test my PC with.

I have had Minecraft freak out on me a couple of times too, but again, you need an account for that.

May well be a defective card. Yes even though its new, it can still be broken. I would advise RMA’ing it to the vendor for a replacement.

Yeah, I consider this fairly likely. I’m just worried that they will be unable to reproduce the fault and I’ll be stuck with it, especially since it only seems to affect GW2, so I wanted to try and isolate it and make sure it’s not a software issue first.

I think in the end I’ll just have to send it back and hope for the best.

Hey all,

I’m experiencing the exact same issue as in this old thread, but I figured necroing that would be bad form:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/Graphic-problems-with-a-new-PC-AMD-GPU

The main difference, is that my card is an R9 270X, which, as far as I can tell, has less in common with the old 7xxx chips, but I figure the architecture has to be similar.

The symptoms are exactly the same. Textures seem to stretch off into infinity or fill a plane like wall. It’s extremely random and hard to predict/reproduce. It can happen immediately, or after a few hours.

If I minimize/restore the game, the artifacts go away, but they tend to return very quickly once it’s happened once.

It doesn’t show up in stress tests or other games I’ve tried. Temperatures are in the mid-60s on both CPU and GPU. I’m using the latest driver, 13.12. I have a Core i5-4440 processor, 8GB 1333MHz RAM, Sapphire Dual-X R9 270X. Card is factory OC’d but aside from that everything is stock frequencies and voltages.

Has anyone else who has had this issue managed to confirm that it’s a software issue, and resolve it somehow?

Thanks

The ability to change gear stats (Note there is still a lot of discussion about whether people want this or not)

I want to clarify my opposition: I am against casual stat swapping. A number of schemes have been put forward that involve a very modest level of commitment to rotate a set. Those sound both interesting as in-game activities and less likely to invalidate parts of the system we have currently.

I still see these prompting a complex set of refunds for duplicate recipes/items to avoid punishing early adopters, but that’s not an insurmountable bit of coding.

It is my least favorite approach and I worry that it will compound poorly with other changes, but it is rich with potential. My vote would simply be “approach cautiously” not “no”.

When I read Chris’ quote my first thought was “who would be against this, and why”, so I’m glad someone posted so we can discuss!

I agree it shouldn’t be too easy. Since my main concern with ascended gear is what to do with my old gear if I decide to change my stats, I’d even be fine with having to craft a second weapon and combine them, but I’m sure others will be more concerned with the cost and grind.

Do you think unlocking stats for one weapon type should unlock that stat for all weapon types? How about other weapons of the same type? How should sigils be handled?

My opinion:
Sigils and runes can continue to work as they do now.
Unlocking a stat should unlock it for all weapons of the same type
Unlocks should be ?-bound (on the fence here, I mainly play 1 character but sympathise with the plight of altoholics so this one needs to be part of that discussion).
If it’s a choice between the two, I’d much rather have stat-switching on ascended gear than keeping it account-bound.

I think it’s important to consider the implications of such a system in terms of lower tier items. Compared to exotics, would this system perhaps be too convenient? Or does the cost justify it?

Separate the concept of (ascended) gear crafting from the concept of equipment stat customisation. Make it easy or easier to change stats, or at the very least, to craft new copies of the same gear with different stats.

snip

There are some good ideas here which I would like to see us discussing as a group.

What do you all think about these ideas?

Chris

The cropped quote above would address my biggest issue with ascended gear.

Since I typically only use one set of gear, a way to change stats on existing gear cheaply would be better for me, since I wouldn’t have to worry about storing/destroying my old gear.

There’s been a lot of talk about having a skin locker for PvE, and that’s definitely something I’d like to see. Collecting is a form of horizontal progression that I think a lot of people can get behind.

I’d like to take it a step further though and have a stat locker as well. My biggest concern with ascended gear is that if I ever want to change my gear to different stats, the prospect of losing the equipment I had before (either through transmutation or through having to discard the item I had before) is discouraging and will often mean I just don’t bother.

Basically, it discourages experimentation and skill progression (ie. “I’ve been using this pretty tanky gear for a while and have learned to survive well, so I’d like to switch some pieces to zerker stats, but if it doesn’t work out I’ll have wasted time and money and be stuck with this piece of gear.”

Alternatively, a way to change stats on items would also be fantastic. It doesn’t have to be the same as a legendary. Having to drop some mats to unlock or change to a stat would be perfectly sufficient.

It’s natural to be suspicious of Deso’s drop before the league. I think a lot of servers that were sitting around the boundaries between the leagues had similar discussions. For instance, I know Gandara and FSP did.

I also know that it’s impossible to control what an entire server’s players will do. For every guild that wants to tank, there will be others that don’t, and it cancels out because the other servers are in the same position.

Is Deso’s fall suspicious? Sure. But compare these 2 matches:
http://mos.millenium.org/servers/view/15/100
http://mos.millenium.org/servers/view/15/114

Several weeks before leagues, a Deso that had just begun to fall trashed AM and Gandara from the word “Go”. In the first matchup of the season, during which they had no reason to underperform, the margin was a lot smaller, and it took them a lot longer to build strength.

I suspect the 5 following weeks of PvD made their night crew bored and complacent, so it took them a while to get going again this week. Next week, we’ll likely see them at full strength again.

With all that said, I believe they fell a little bit more than they should have. Despite their losses, I believe they still have the coverage to compete in gold, even if it’s low-end gold. Losing some guilds doesn’t mean you lose all your players that would have played or commanded at off-peak times.

We’ll find out where Deso really belongs when we go back to random matchups.

Your option doesn’t anwser to main question: why Deso is having trouble beating Gandara?

Maybe your off-prime-time players left because 5 weeks of PvD was boring, and you actually do now belong in silver.

Or, given that Deso caught up 5k points in the last 12 hours, it’s too early to say that you are having trouble. If things continue apace, this will be another stomp, or at least a decisive win.

The posts in this thread so far do not reflect the views of DiVa as a whole. As a guild we try to respect the unwritten rules of sportsmanship but sometimes on the field things don’t go as planned or situations are misjudged, so we’re sorry if anyone feels cheated by our actions, as I’m sure is the case when roles are reversed.

That said, WvW is always going to get a little messy. There simply isn’t all that much room, so groups of varying sizes are bound to run into each other, and speaking only for myself, I don’t hold it against anyone if they feel the need for a little low-pressure ganking. It’s good stress relief.

We had fun tonight, so thanks to everyone who was on MS BL with us.

Dodge rolling in the wrong direction

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: eremos.8142

eremos.8142

It’s user error to rotate your camera without turning your character. Be sure to use the right mouse and movement key before trying to dodge. Dodging without direction let’s you dodge backwards from where the character is technically looking, regardless of the position of the camera.

You’re right, but it’s happened to me even while I have the right-mouse button held down. For instance:

1. Be attacking an enemy
2. Press RMB, Swing around, start holding W and run away from said enemy while still holding RMB
3. Dodge

Expected behaviour: My character dodges away from the enemy
Actual behaviour: My character dodges towards the enemy

The reason I suspect it’s related is because at the time I attempted to dodge, my character was in the middle of an attack animation directed at aforementioned enemy. It appears to be considering the character instead of the camera, as in the occasion described in my earlier post.

It would be so awesome to see recordings from each attempt so you could see how with each attempt, people are better grouped, turrets more organised, etc. Especially if it could be rendered in the form of a heat map.

Dodge rolling in the wrong direction

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: eremos.8142

eremos.8142

I suspect it’s related to the fact that when you double-click on something, causing your character to turn towards that thing, subsequent movement will be relative to the direction your character is facing, instead of the camera.

In the first attached screenshot, I have walked up to my current position using the right-mouse button to rotate my camera. Pressing W moves me towards the logs.

The second screenshot is after I double-click on the Citizen NPC. The camera is the same, but pressing W moves me towards the Citizen now.

I’ve found that the odd dodging happens if my character is in the midst of using a skill, which also causes character rotation, which is why I suspect it’s related.

What? Is FSV gone from FSP? Lol didn’t even noticed they left.

Yes, if I remember right: FSV transferred to Gandara, then renamed themselves to “Former Shiverpeaks Vanguards [FSV]” then united with [Dius]. The new guild is called [DiVa].

Sorry i was a bit sarcastic, I ofcourse know that FSV left the Peaks.
I was trying to say in a sarcastic way that it didn’t effect the server x)

This post is, to me, a good example of the attitude that divides FSP and that played a big role in FSV leaving. I’m not saying we were completely innocent and undeserving of Xerion’s disdain, and our trolling did in my personal opinion go a little too far sometimes, but we were responding in kind to drama that already existed long before FSV was even formed.

We should perhaps have been the bigger man and shrugged it off, and me doing so now is probably too little too late, but at the end of the day it all became a bit too messy. So we decided to start fresh instead.

There were other factors obviously; frustration with the lack of coverage, the relatively small number of guilds to divide and conquer maps with and wanting different things from WvW than we think most others on FSP do.

I wish FSP all the best though, you’ve got a great shot at winning bronze league if you stay in your current position. Hopefully the coming league system will bring the community together in a common cause, and not tear it further apart due to different people wanting different things from WvW.

Like I thought on 1st day Gandara will have bad impressions of us and also expected that you will want to show the best from you when facing higher tier server. I heard you run in smaller groups and I hoped for some skirmishes from time to time, but when I tried running solo I usually ended up being ganked. Only one fair 1v1 vs guardian from WvW on eb, but even that got interrupted by some thief from my side :/
Gandara guys seem to be running very fast to a place where fight is having place, every time there were orange swords I saw more and more of blue smurfs coming and jumping into the fight Kinda similiar to Viz where sometimes you can see ppl running around, but on the other side much different cause you guys usually don’t run and fight a lot better than them.
Sadly sometimes it all ended up in a blob fest; not gonna mention AM cause it seems to be the only way they run, can’t remember seeing groups of under 20-30 ppl from there. Also we have big numbers at times, especially when some guy gathers ppl from all maps and blobs the hell out of every place in WvW while leaving almost all our stuff without defense (EB wooden almost whole week, except times when few ppl decided to work out their kitten and upgrade/siege up stuff)… Feels weird to see things on our server going into the “blob all the way”; still remember the good times of having guilds and comanders that actually cared about defense – we have some of those still, but as soon as the blob forms up, they’re all alone with 10-15 guys. Is lootbags all that ppl care for these days? :/

Gl in future match ups, Viz/Sfr/Abbadon would be nice zerg fest, for Gandara, maybe your usual lower/mid tier enemies and to Deso – well, maybe a good beating from strong enemies would be nice and teach some ppl to blob less

From our side we could say the same. This evening we were only 20 People and what do you Crydara Guys You blob. Do not throw Stones while sitting in a Glashouse. I also never seen Your normal Groups infight you ever run away and came back with 2 other Groups. And if You fight against us You lay down. An by the way we dont kill Solo Players if they dont attack us.

1. You’re replying to a Desolation player, not Gandara.
2. Everybody blobs at times. In my experience though, blobbing is the norm on AM, whereas on Gandara we have many smaller guilds that mostly run separately. EB though is, of course, fair game, and we have the occasional karma train hopping between maps.
3. This bit is unclear but it sounds like you’re suggesting that we run away and come back with another guild? If we’re heavily outnumbered, of course we’ll accept some assistance. Usually though, it’s just that we gravitate towards where the fights are. And we (I’m pretty confident I can say this for most Gandaran guilds) usually only run away, er, tactically retreat from fights where we are severely outnumbered (we’re not going to just give you our lootbags, and spawn is far away and my legs are tired) or to try and draw out some overextenders.
4. I’ve been ganked on my own plenty of times so just who are you speaking for?

i rarely run in a blob 99% i paly solo or with one other guy.. what now?

And we weren’t chasing that guy. What now?

Now do your job and FLAME HIM. This thread is already dangerously boring and does not entertain me at all.

Remember:

Nah, I have a spotless record, I don’t want an infraction. :P

Will kit quality affect the chance of salvaging essence of luck?

Also, since there will be a good reason to salvage greens now, will you please get rid of the confirmation dialog when doing so?

Totally with you on the vengeance bit but the titans were indeed a thing in GW1. You can read up on them on the wiki and decide for yourself if this weapon is referring to a specific titan or the group as a whole. http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Titan

  • The Ithas Longbow shows the plain longbow icon in inventory but the correct icon in vendor “sell” windows.
  • Watchwork sprockets have a different icon in inventory than in the vendor window.
