When the account magic find system is implemented, there will be a chance you can acquire account magic find consumables from salvaging both fine and masterwork items.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/looking-ahead-guild-wars-2-in-2013/
I’ll buy one right now if it’ll have the same chance of dropping these consumables as a better kit.

Hitting the doors with your weapon skills has only ever promoted fights. You can kill people through the gate and you can jump out and kill them there because they are incredibly vulnerable. It is perfect for fights.
That assumes you have enough people inside to kill them if you push out. I’m talking about scenarios where, as defenders of a structure, the only viable option is to port back to spawn to avoid giving the enemy your loot.
If players couldn’t damage gates, you might get a more interesting fight when you do jump out because they might actually be looking around instead of just having tunnel vision on the gate.

Interesting perspectives, thank you. I guess it largely depends on what you value in the game. I love open field battles, but they’re better when you have something to fight for.
I also just realised I’m contradicting myself slightly since if you could just destroy the enemy’s siege you would never have to go outside, but if the enemy placed siege smartly you would be forced to.
I’d just like to see a bit more strategy in the game than “stand here for a while and autoattack”. If there is defensive siege, you should need to counter it.
For what it’s worth, I approve of the AC buff for that reason. They’d be pointless if you could just ignore them.
Gandara
Hate to take advantage of you Devon but you seem to be on a roll here on the forum (which I’m hoping means you’re coming out of a big crunch and you have something shiny for us in the next update
) so I’d like to ask you two things.
1. Have you ever considered making it so players can’t damage doors without siege? Would greatly favour defence, which imo towers and keeps SHOULD do, and force an attacking group to play smart instead of just force doors down – particularly when it’s a group of 40. It sucks sitting in a keep but being helpless against the zerg that’s pummelling the gates to splinters.
2. Permanent finishers and being able to use them in WvW is great, but are there any plans to let us unlock them through WvW? Perhaps permanent ones based on World Ranks and temporary ones as rare loot from the champ bags?
Thanks!

i rly feel sry for this matchup – but plz guyz dont forget it is not elona making this matchups its arenanet
AND just ignore this ranking thing from dayra, he loves to talk in forum all day bout crap like this and on elona noone rly care.
We have same ppl like you (only a lot more) feeling good when can stomp easy targets and go home when strong enemy. Nothing wrong about thats the WVW – Playerbase.have fun – somehow – and ye pve raids atm an option too
Yay, a voice of reason. I think you’re drastically in the minority though.
Attached is our border right now. Still, ER have 30 people on emergency response standby just waiting for something to get contested/flip.
Is this really fun for them? They’re not even getting any world XP for most of the time. If some of them moved to lower tiers they’d have more fun and interesting fights, less lag, shorter queues… but I guess that all pales in the face of the pride of being on a T1 server.
Anyway, well said Lad, there’s still fun to be had during prime time. Just not at any other time.
Gandara
I don’t care about FSP’s rating much, but since ER care so much about theirs, so will I this week.
Gandara
Ouch. Good luck all.
Gandara
I made a friend today. We were sieging up bay on our border, where Fort Ranik had taken up residency, and a RoS guy came in and sat down to watch. I jumped around a bit before approaching to show I was friendly, and joined him.
Sadly FR pushed out and I had to go rejoin my group. I wish we had more time.
Gandara
3. They want to upgrade structures, prep siege, capture objectives etc and are tired of their work effortlessly steamrolled by a group that outnumbers them 3 to 1.
This one for me. And I have a simple change that might alleviate it: If players could not damage doors with their attacks, a small group would be able to defend objectives and force the bigger group to reconsider their approach.
Gandara
Amazing night on our border tonight, cheers to everyone.
FR, your grip on Bay was vice-like. Kudos. I’m trying to convince my guild to have an event on an enemy border where we just focus on taking, holding and upgrading a keep for as long as possible. Clearly it’s gonna have to be yours.
RoS, you guys are a nuisance. We could never take our eyes off Hills for very long or you’d find your way inside yet again. Keep it up.
Given our respective ratings, FSP probably has better coverage than you guys, but prime time looks to be a lot of fun. Best of luck to all!
Gandara
nice teamwork FSP/AG…….
It’s hardly teamwork, we simply don’t have the manpower to put pressure on their borderlands at the moment so we’re losing points. Not sure how much they are pressuring eachother’s borders, but I suppose they can’t do as much there as a third invading force at the moment is absent. FSP seems to like us more than AG anyway, but that’s to be expected as our scores are close. It’ll be hard to prevent AG from gaining more of a lead on both our servers though :P
Kale, you guys sure are persistent and deserve respect for that. Most other guilds would’ve given up far sooner. We don’t want to lose Garrison just yet though, our homeborder is in a bad enough shape as it is!
No, no, don’t make excuses for us. We’re totally focusing UW for 3 reasons:
1. We totally <3 AG, still waiting for that AG/Gandara/FSP matchup that is always so tantalizingly close but never quite happens. I suspect that if it does happens though we’ll spend 90% of our time just jumping around each other throwing down boxes of fun and guild kegs everywhere.
2. You complained A LOT in our last matchup (yeah, yeah, I know, don’t judge a server by a few posters, but eh, it’s nice to have rivalries),
3. You’re threatening to steal our Server With the Most Internal Drama trophy from us with this thread. You no can has! We’re Far Dramapeaks, darn it!
Seriously though, it’s been a good matchup and I thank you, even if I haven’t been around much this week so far.
Gandara
We’re approaching our ideal size, but still have need of a few elementalists and mesmers. Go to fsvanguard.com to apply!

I was one of the players that may have spoken a little harshly about the AoA and Kale players on the field. I honestly didn’t mean offense. In my opinion, guilds have a responsibility to make sure their members behave in good sportsmanship, so when they don’t, I want to make the guild aware so they can sort it out how they see fit. I really should have asked the player directly first, so I sincerely apologise.
That said, I’m sure AoA don’t need Lion to defend their honour — they could have contacted us directly — and using that as an excuse for their interference seems disingenuous to me.
With all the talk of what WvW is and isn’t, regardless of your opinion on the matter, there are such things as sportsmanship and mutual respect. Right now, [lion] seems to have a sense for neither. But it’s not too late for you to resolve this. Your pride may have been wounded, but your reputation can be recovered. Just stop making excuses.
Finally, yes, FSV have been known to troll at times, and maybe we’ve crossed some lines. We’re aware of this, there are those in the guild who aren’t really comfortable with it, and we always make it known internally when we think we’re going too far and put a stop to it.
Gandara
All GvG should be done on the neutral ground.
We were on Kodash, fwiw.
PS I have broken hand so at the moment I can fight only on the forum
Ouch.
Get better soon!
Gandara
a few good fights as a tchuu-bt mixed party this afternoon at fsp bl:
against FSV, we won the first time 4vs7-8 against your melee hammer train, but then you kept getting more numbers and it was too tough, and while we got 5, you grew to 15ish or so. still some decent fights, they were fun, although almost impossible for us to win.
against WdR: fun stuff, but kitten , stop focusing me! :<
Aw, I’d like to think we figured out how you operate and that’s what let us beat you the second time around. We definitely started getting more people online from that point onwards though, but still had fun fighting you for a while. You guys were pretty good, thanks.
Oh and thanks Dius for the GvGs! Best fights we had all week.
Gandara
oh wow another national server who only cares about the points /yawn
Kodash proved to be boring as hell to fight against so far, just running inside towers and standing on a ac/cannon. Tried to solo roam on your border last night only to find groups of 10 defending camps. Lame
Gandara on the other hand is awesome as always <3
In fairness FSP had the same thing against WSR and BT. PvE scrubs come out to farm karma when any server is winning.
But yes, we love Gandara for having a decent number of guilds, fewer pugs.
Gandara
Good defense of Hills in FSP at 2am.
Is that why you moved to EB?
Gandara
(edited by eremos.8142)
Likewise. Much as I loved GW1 I’ll never go back.
Even better, maybe down the line, would be to give us the ability to “dismiss” achievements from that list, for when you don’t want to progress an achievement right at that moment but want to see what else you could be doing.
Gandara
Thank you for today`s loot :p
Grats, you lucky kitten. Now where’s mine!
Gandara
Can only hope for some more lagging fights at SM if any commaner is trying again(not often tried cause of the lag and everyone afraid we are losing all other stuff if we only go to SM).
Ugh. Nothing personal, to each their own, etc. but I can’t believe you actually enjoy that. Living in a country with crappy internet I have enough lag by default, I don’t need 3-way fights in SM making it so I have to press skills 5 times before they go off.
If at any point you decide that fights where individual and group skill are more worthwhile than those where you rely on outnumbering the enemy and spamming 1, you should really check out the borders. They can be a lot of fun. And we get plenty of loot bags.
Gandara
TL;DR: Watch our videos to see some of the things we like to do. http://www.youtube.com/user/MikeStylish/videos
Far Shiverpeaks Vanguard was created by players that were tired of playing with people whose idea of fun is running around like headless chickens auto-attacking doors. By requiring our members to run team builds, use Teamspeak (preferably with a microphone, but just listening is ok too) and not die when the enemy looks at them funny, we’re able to run with a lot more organisation and take on groups larger than us.
We have 15-20 players in TS and WvW most nights but are looking for more to get up to 20-25 more consistently.
Aside from the above requirements, we are very relaxed. Members are required to represent while in WvW and be on Teamspeak when you’re running with us, but you can continue doing PvE and guild missions with your current guild. And while we’re serious about WvW and being the best we can be, at the end of the day quaggans just wanna have fun, and for us that’s stomping scrubs.
So if you’re not quite getting your WvW fix from your current guild, come over to www.fsvanguard.com and give us a nudge.
Gandara
Don’t worry UW, we won’t judge your whole server based on one forum poster.
Had some good fights with both servers this weekend, look forward to more in the week.
Gandara
Just got killed by some Pax (and some pugs I think?) just west of north camp. Great fight. Would love to have a GvG with you this week. Contact Aco, he posted above!
Gandara
Should be a nice matchup. Have fun all!
Gandara
It was also amusing watching 20+ FSP roll into hills 2 seconds after we capped it, and then proceed to fight the invulnerable lord for 5 minutes.
Did this happen twice last night? Our leader was annoyed that we ran into the lord room without checking first, but we didn’t fight him for 5 minutes, we left and waited. Also, we were exactly 20 at our biggest, including the two who got stuck outside because they just HAD to stay and cap the sentry because WXP!
So you must be talking about a different occasion, or otherwise you’re just being liberal with the truth to try and paint FSP as idiot noobs.
Gandara
People are always complaining that leveling zones are empty, so I made a script that would, for each zone, rank servers in terms of activity* so I can decide which one to guest on.
The whole bash script (be warned, it’s pretty ugly
is up at http://paste.ubuntu.com/5814413/. Hopefully someone will think it’s a cool idea and do it properly.
I’ll keep it running on my own server (http://mosli.net/events/) for a while so people can take a look, but I make no promises with regard to uptime, so don’t go adding it to the main post.
* Activity is determined by downloading the event list every 10 minutes, comparing it with the previous version and counting the differences. I don’t know much about how the API handles event states so it’s entirely possible that the resulting number will be somewhat meaningless. I’m betting though that actual player activity will cause a zone/server to rise up above the noise.
Gandara
On behalf of Far Shiverpeaks, I’d like to apologize for all the fair-weather players that will join in to steamroll our opponents this week. Unfortunately for you guys, we see a lot of influx in WvW-players whenever we hold a lot of structures or meet weaker (in numbers) opposition. Unfortunately for us, these guys seem to vanish into thin air (or more likely PvE) when the uphill battles start again.
Our EB zerg just hopped to WR border to cap the entire map, at which point they’ll probably move on. We’ve officially become AM.
Gandara
Yep, as I said before, we apologise. But it’s reset, things should be less ridiculous in the week and FSV (our guild) will make an effort to avoid the friendly blob. Right now we’re all a little drunk and not paying much attention to such things.
Gandara
FSP has had 4 solid weeks of being blue or red so we’ve been looking forward to this matchup. We apologise in advance for the blobbiness though. Rest assured our guilds usually do their best to avoid running together.
Really excited about this match and if any guilds want to do GvG we’d be up for it!
Gandara
I was annoyed at the start of the week but we managed to eke out some good fights after all, so thanks for that. I’m amazed how close FSP and AG are in points.
AG, good luck in your new matchup. AM, I’ll probably see you tonight. :P
But seriously, good luck to you as well.
Gandara
Don’t worry AG, FSP loves you. <3
Gandara
Sigh. Have fun guys, I’ll see you next Friday.
Gandara
Unfortunately that’s the only positive thing I have to say, and I’ve just permanently transferred to Vabbi.
Whaaaaaat? Say it ain’t so Ping!
Gandara
Meh. I took a break from the game over the last 2 weeks and come back to this. Suppose I’ll stick to PvE for a while.
I like the new matchup system, but I think it was implemented too soon. I look forward to seeing what ANet come up with to encourage and reward smaller scale play, but kinda wish they’d waited for that to be ready before shaking up the rankings. Maybe once the ratings have evened out they’ll adjust the ranking deviation base and/or multiplier.
Oh, and I don’t blame PS. Our turn as the strong server in a matchup will come again, as it has in the past, at which point all the fair-weather soldiers (to steal a term) will come out to blob. This one’s on ANet.
Gandara
(edited by eremos.8142)
As our guild has grown and matured we’re just having more and more fun, and honestly this week has been the most fun yet. Most of the time we’re running to the other side of the map from our zerg and trying to take stuff before the zerg can get us. When we’re enough people online to hold our own against that zerg for a while, all the better.
Outmanned is my favourite buff. It gives us licence to be annoying as all heck with zero consequences.
Cheers to both Gandara and Arborstone for the fun so far!
Gandara
Yeah we’re on a bit of a downturn lately, not so many commanders around and the night crew has shrunk. It’s fine though. This too shall pass.
Gandara
not really happy about that
i liked the next matchup without random
Indeed. Shame.
Thanks for the great week AG and MS. Hope next week goes well for everyone!
Gandara
We were hoping to roll out the new matchup system for the next matchups but unfortunately we ran into a few snags. We are working hard to get everything working 100% correctly and tested and should be able to start the new matchups once we’ve checked everything. I’ll make sure to be back to let you all know as far ahead of time as I can. My apologies for the inconvenience.
Woohoo! We get to fight AG and Gandara again!
Gandara
If we are not careful we will be dropping another tier after this week :/
Our numbers continue to get smaller week on week….not sure if its transfers, people quitting game or some other reason…currently have outnumber buff on 2 borders including our own and 1 commander across 4 zones….I guess FSP has given up on it
I wouldn’t mind this terribly, if it means less blobbing. But what will happen then is our players will realise they are in a strong position and will log on and WE’LL be the blobby ones again.
So there’s not very much we can do. Just keep looking for the good fights wherever we can find them.
Anyway with the new matchup formula coming in next week it’s anybody’s guess who we’ll be fighting against.
Gandara
Great fights with QQ and FSV this evening though, especially the garrison 3-way. We outnumbered FSV, and yet they still jump in. Always a nice surpise to find some on FSP or MS who have balls
Life’s too short to worry about repair costs!
We’ve really enjoyed fighting Gandara. We’re a pretty new guild so we never pass up an opportunity to test ourselves, and these fights, as opposed to the massive zergs we often see from other servers, have really given us the chance. And it’s really nice to see our efforts are appreciated.
Practice makes perfect!
Gandara
(edited by eremos.8142)
Gandara, ease up a bit! If we let Miller’s win and AG don’t do too well we’ll have an ideal matchup next week!
Gandara
FSV has balls, respect for that.
Thought didnt expect any less with Aco =p
We make it a point to run away from our allies and towards our enemies.
Gandara
Support responses are always so form-lettery it makes me wonder how closely they review cases to determine if exceptions should be made to standard practice.
So, could someone take a closer look at my case #130516-001241 please?
Basically, ANet created a new account for me just before headstart due to issues with my GW2 account. Unfortunately they were not able to unlink my old account from my GW account by the time of launch (despite assuring me that they would be able to do so), so I was not able to use the character names I actually wanted.
Thanks in advance.
Gandara
I’d like to hear your thoughts on this idea, since there are pretty clear pros and cons, but it may come down to personal preference.
What if guilds got rewards (influence or commendations) for holding on to objectives they have claimed?
Pros:
- It might encourage guilds to become more focused on WvW and hopefully displace the PUGs that are only interested in karma train zerging
- It would make WvW lean more towards true siege warfare, leading to smarter siege placement, the need for counter-trebs and raiding parties.
- Starving an objective of supply would become a more vital part of laying siege to that objective.
- It would give guilds of varying sizes things to do – camps for very small groups, keeps for large ones.
- It would encourage groups to spread across maps. eg. If everything on our border has already been claimed, we need to go lay siege to a tower somewhere else.
- It would provide additional incentive for people to both defend and attack supply camps/caravans.
Cons:
- It will get terribly boring if there’s no opposing team currently laying siege to my keep.
- It will encourage excessive bunkering; thousands of ACs inside keeps and towers; pre-emptive counter-trebs
- Open-field battles would be reduced
- PUGs may feel like there’s nothing to do (but they could act as mercenaries)
What pros and cons have I missed?
Overall I think this would be a positive change to the meta. Guilds would have an incentive to defend objectives, and while open field battles would probably be reduced, the need to upgrade and protect (now even more vital) supply camps and dolyaks would present lots of opportunities for battle.
Gandara
D’oh. Thanks. First 3 times I got it from her it was automatically equipped so that was unexpected.
Gandara
While I was carrying the sample detector, I interacted with a weapons crate, getting that other weapon. Now when I speak to Levvi I don’t get anything when I select “Could I get another one of your sample detectors?”
Anyone else experienced this and have a workaround?
Gandara
Gandara are ours now and you can’t have them back!
Gandara
(edited by eremos.8142)
So much negativity.
Joining the blob and running from objective to objective is the same as it ever was. The real fun is in joining a guild that’s active in WvW and engaging in your server’s community. When there are a few such guilds active on a map, you can coordinate with them to do simultaneous assaults on various objectives. That way, either group is much more likely to succeed.
Last night, our group of about 10 players was able to take Bay on an enemy border, thanks to another guild launching a simultaneous assault on Garrison, and had a lot more fun doing it than if we were just following a little blue diamond around knocking on doors until they broke down.
