/Cynical Mode On
“We’re finally doing something about the WVW problems! Look at us! We totally are doing something even if you can’t see any results just yet.
Now please all buy the expansion."
[fails to find the Cynical Mode Off switch]
If you want a vision of the future of WvW, imagine a ram pounding on an undefended door- for ever…
Oh we have commanders willing to take it straight to the enemy. Unfortunately this is the 6th match in a row where we’re outnumbered by at least two or three times our numbers and offpeak is worse, so there are times of day when we’re ticking 5 whole points.
Blame the players- Anet obviously aren’t going to do anything about server balance.
If the guilds and players that care about WvW don’t voluntarily destack then the future of WvW will be a ram hitting an unguarded door at 2AM, forever…
Don’t worry, someone will be along shortly to insist it’s your internet connections. Yes, all of them…
When 5-10 people- spread throughout Europe and beyond- all report lag and disconnects at exactly the same time in TS I’m disinclined to think it’s an ISP or local networking problem. Doesn’t seem to hit in the BL but it’s still happening in EB. No idea about PVE maps either.
This has been going on for days on GH- whole groups of people experiencing lag spikes at exactly the same time, and increasing numbers of people getting kicked out of the game simultaneously. It’s nothing to do with individuals connectivity or kit.
Any other servers getting the same since the patch?
WSR have always shown good fighting spirit and are a great bunch of lads. Definitely worth consideration for a transfer.
After VoTF, xxx leave Surmia too.
The next ???Yeah I wonder which guild will leave next.
I bid 50 quatloos on the newcomer
That fight in the WSR keep watergate tunnel in EB yesterday was one of the craziest things I’ve seen in this game. 20-30 minutes of constant AOE mayhem and waves of attackers.
Congrats to WSR for prevailing in the end and getting it back. You might be outnumbered but you keep fighting.
When reset rolls around. If you get hills right away. you will have it the entire match. from start to finish baring some ridiculous mistake in leaving it undefended (than good luck ever getting it back)
Treb outer down from Foghaven (you can even builds ACs to defend if you like).
Rush through the breach.
Trebs/cats against north inner from the vista.
Exciting Lord’s Room finish- feel free to treb their defences from the bridge/portal bomb/build offensive ballista/etc as you see fit.
Arrow carts hardly factor into it.
I’m on a lower-pop server and I welcome the AC changes. People should embrace this as an opportunity to learn and adapt to the changes in how to siege.
Anything that cuts down on blobs derping down gates is a good move.
It’s like some people here have never heard of cats and trebs to get into places…
There are some people here not knowing what is fun about playing wvwvw…
I like a good siege myself- much more fun than blobbing up and zerging towers in some karma train.
But….it all depends who has the bigger blob. The server with greater number will eventually take down the tower or keep but it will take a bit longer than pre patch days. But re taking the lost tower/keep for smaller servers is going to be impossible now.
PS this isnyt going to stop the karma train but slow it down.
Not necessarily- I’ve been in some glorious 2-3 hour siege defences where the enemy outnumbered us something like 20-60, all our walls were down and we had no supply but we managed to hold and eventually push out and wipe the enemy because we’d got some siege up to hold the lord’s room and chokepoints, and most importantly because we were determined and organised. Eventually the enemy lost their fighting spirit and we pushed them out.
Granted that sort of thing happens rarely given the way WVW rewards sheer numbers, and it reflects badly on the enemy, but I find those fights far more rewarding than zergs autoattacking doors down and rolling onto the next target. Organised field tactics is part of the game, but being able to put up a good nuanced siege offense/defence is what shows a server’s character IMO.

Again with the blobs and the karmatrain. Point out people here who do that.
What do you consider to not be a zerg or blob? Less than 20? Well those are the people getting hit the hardest by this. Now you need even more people to do something. This is will create more blobs.
If there’s oil up and manned you take it out before getting a ram going.
If there are manned ACs that you can’t pull the users off and gank, or AOE to death, then you back off and get some cats or trebs up.
This is basic siegecraft stuff.

You rangers will just have to grin and bear it, sorry.
It’s been lots of fun this week- not too zergy and fairly well balanced. There have been some great fights where the outcome has changed repeatedly with flanking, feints, charges, use of siege and all the other stuff that’s so much more fun than those unbalanced steamroller fights.
I pity the guys in the higher tiers with their queues and lag.
You mean the week the newly-arrived Xaoc guild further split apart and most of them left the server, giving a certain server an even larger numbers advantage than before to triumphantly zerg their way to victory?
At about 1AM GMT today FSP were fielding more people in EB than GH can manage at their primetime, and you still wiped half a dozen times with at least a 3-1 numbers advantage before capping our keep- numbers will win in the end so all we can do is enjoy the fights and the loot.
It’s surprising a server like FSP are so low in the tiers considering the raw numbers they can field, to be honest.
How about they remove the AOE cap for outmanned players to give them a fighting chance against the zerg?
Not to mention that if your side has had the foresight to get defensive siege built in good time and ready with people to man it then they will most likely be yanked off their equipment and over the battlements to their doom- those same battlements that block half their ranged attacks- and stability is no help either.
In many forts it’s almost impossible to mount an effective defence against superior numbers from the walls and the zerg wins again.
Yea was funny last night, the GH zerg at WSR Arah supply got deflated after trying to head in to our small group via the otherside, I dont know if anyone took a screenshot on the pile of GH bodies left in Arah, whoever charged that rush should be told off!
I was there for that- it was hardly a zerg and you outnumbered us by some margin.
We’d wiped or chased you back up to Longview some five or six times by then when we had no right to so it’s only fair you wiped us when we went for your siege.
It’s been a fun few weeks and we’ve had some great fights vs WSR- glad you could show up with some numbers while RoF seemed to be taking the night off.
Edit- what the scrub said^^
Since the weekly matches began GH faced months of continually getting kicked into 2nd or 3rd place by servers that massively outnumbered us, even though many (with honourable exceptions) of them weren’t much good in an even numbers fight.
We’re well aware of what it means to fight numerically superior opponents which is why we’ve had to try and get more organised, and we know very well what the higher tiers look like.
I was there for this action and it was in the lord’s room at Hills. We were outnumbered 3/4-1 and we knew we wouldn’t hold the inner walls. So we set up ballistae covering the tunnel, arrow carts round the edge and people in the cap circle. Despite being prepared and CCing the chokepoint and covering the approach with AOE they still got a mesmer through and the enemy were spreading out on the cap circle stairs and it was game over. I main a staff ele and know all about uses of AOE, but by the time they’d rendered it was all over.
Portals have great tactical uses but it’s a shame that they render chokepoints and prepared defences almost worthless and then it’s back to larger numbers == win.
Fixed cannon emplacements.
Takes a lot to set up, limited fire arc, pretty big cooldown, but massive columnar AOE damage in a line in front of it. Good as a greeting when the door goes down or lord’s room defence but takes some organisation to get ready.
I’m on Gunnar’s Hold and we had several cases over the weekend of the same Abaddon clan mysteriously turning up inside keeps and towers with intact walls and gates and trying to hop round the garrison vista cliffs.
Here’s a screenshot I took of them setting up to bounce into Bay on Sunday, not ten minutes after we kicked them out for the same thing, which I’ve sent in an abuse report.
I hope all such instances of unsportsmanlike play are decried by the fair players on all server.
