[Ranger] Ending the Hindrance (tPvP)

in Profession Balance

before we get started on giving us the rest of the pet skills on our f keys… lets work on the actual skill they did give us. the f2.

so they “fixed” pet responsiveness which made them actually use the skill when we told them to. great. but it still doesn’t work as well as they wanted it to…

the cast times are still too long… sure i can press f2 on my wolf and it’ll start channeling it immediately… LOL

well that’s fantastic, it “used” it when i told it to but now i still have to wait a second and a half before i actually get the effect

so wolves (canines in general) open with their knockdown. nice. so the pet takes time to get into range, then uses its knockdown skill. that’s good right?… LOL again. by the time the wolf uses finishes channeling its 1 1/4 second cast time for the knockdown, my target already moved out of range of the rooted pet and boom. i missed out on potential damage, knockdown, and a chance to get in some damage of my own while my target is cc’d…

so before the dev’s (they won’t anyways) give us the rest of our pet skills to control/choose, let’s ask for our f2 to be fixed… again.

I can’t help but wonder if they’re afraid to give shorter casting time to the pet skills because they think pets will deal too much DPS. Which I think is silly. All a player has to do to avoid the pet is move. And if PvE enemies get chomped quickly, welp, that’s just too bad, especially considering zerk warriors already do that.

Suggestion to improve game client

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ewhalen.8604

The game client—that little downloader that you log into when you want to play—has a couple of persistent problems. 1. It doesn’t allow you to pause the download. If your computer crashes or falls asleep for some reason after before the download finished, the file is corrupted and the client has to review and repair the files before it finishes/redownloads the new update. The file repair can take longer than the actual download.

2. Another thing which causes frustration is that the updates don’t happen automatically. My brother noted that many of his other PC games automatically download updates, but Guild Wars 2 doesn’t. So, whenever he joins me once in a few weeks, he has at least an hour of download time. He’s busy over at college and doesn’t get to play with me that often. And, I get irritated whenever I try to fit in a quick session of GW2 between classes/appointments and realize I forgot about the update, so whoops, no gaming for now! I’ll just spend the next ten minutes downloading… It would be nice if we could have the choice to enable auto updates, so when our computers are running the client can search for and download updates on its own. That would also lessen the chances of #1 happening.

In-game voice comms

ewhalen.8604

I’d like an in-game chat client. It would make connecting to others easier. Different irl friends and random people I encounter online use different clients, like Mumble and Teamspeak, or sometimes (to my chagrin) even Skype. It would be nice to have an in-game client for the sake of a basic, universal chat option. If people wanted to continue using other 3rd party clients, they could. It’s just that I find it’s a hassle to rely on another gamer to set up and maintain a server, for me to remember/store even more password and account info, and to juggle clients. It would also make communications for pick-up groups a lot easier. Dungeon runs would, in general, be smoother. Many other games use the in-game chat as an optional asset, only for use between people who choose to use it together, and somehow they’ve got a situation with abuse liability that they’re comfortable with. I mean, just allow people to mute anyone they don’t want to hear, and most of the problems are solved. I honestly don’t see why Anet can’t figure out a way to implement it.

Game Updates: Traits

I just want to say that this new trait system may have turned my younger brother off from the game. He was just starting to get into it. He has a level 18 ranger. When he logged on yesterday night to play with me, he was surprised to see that he had absolutely no trait points. “Wait, what? Where are my trait points?” he said. After I explained the change to him, he said, “Level 30?!” “Yup.” “Well, great.” He played for maybe 30 minutes tops with me before he jumped onto Warframe again, when usually we play for over an hour.

So, ArenaNet, this was a new player, and the new player was quite discouraged by the new system. I don’t think your experiment is paying off well.

My fern hound was dying a lot more quickly than I remember when I played yesterday, and I still have 30 BM statted. Had to pull him back after a few seconds against a single Risen because he was down to 1/3 health. Usually he could take that for 16-20 seconds without going down past 80%.

Game Updates: Wardrobe, Transmutation, Outfits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ewhalen.8604

There are both things I like and don’t like about this change. It makes it much easier for my level 80s to get different appearances for different builds, and I don’t have to hoard skins in my inventory because I’m afraid I’ll want them later. However, all of my transmutation stones AND crystals have been devalued. Whereas I only needed 1 stone per piece for my <80s, now I need 3 per piece. The crystals are also devalued because they each have a value of 1 transmutated piece for a character of ANY level, not just level 80. I feel like I can’t use any of my transmutation charges on my characters less than level 80 because then I’ll be wasting the crystals that I PAID for, especially since they’ll just lose the skin in a few levels anyways when I want better armor stats. To keep the value of the transmutation stones and crystals, 1 stone should equal 1 charge and 1 crystal should equal 3 charges. (I had 9 crystals and 26 stones before the update, btw.) Another suggestion is to have a system were you would pay a small fee once to unlock a skin piece for unlimited use. Because the system as it is now will eventually cause me to accumulate armor pieces so as to avoid paying every single time I want to change.

Also, I didn’t play around with town clothes as much as RPers, but I did enjoy them, particularly around Halloween. I want the non-tonic, real wardrobe system to apply to them. I paid real money for that broom, so you had better give me back the product you sold to me, ArenaNet, or give me my real world money back. Same with my transmutation crystals (up their t-charge value, or give me my money). Otherwise, you are thieves.

My two cents. Could also use more condition removal, but I don’t have a well thought out way to implement it.

Specific Game Mode: PvX.

Proposal Overview
Change to one-handed Sword targeting, Pet targeting and survivability, moving certain traits into different trait lines

Goal of Proposal
To improve control over Sword skills; to improve control over Pets and effectivenes of Pets; to increase the amount of weapon specialization allowed in builds and the effectiveness of Ranger builds.

Proposal Functionality
First, the Sword. It should not drop the lock on my target during the #1 or #2. I also want to be able to break combat easier with that sword. The player should be able to cancel any Sword skill at any time.

Pets should have dodge capabilities or have more health. We should be able to keep them hidden as long as we want in order to avoid aggro. It would also help to have them follow the ranger closer until they attack. When I call my pet back with F3 to pull it out of an AoE, I don’t want it to stop so far in front of me: it should come right next to me so that I don’t have to move as far back. To fix targeting and reliability issues, have low cast time for all offensive pet skills—1 second max. Preferably less, especially for F2. When the player uses the F2 skill, any other skill or action that the pet is taking should be immediately canceled. F2 should instantly respond to player input, unless the pet is dazed/immobilized/otherwise incapacitated. I love pet mechanics: the GW2 ranger pet system just needs to improve.

The Quick Draw trait should be moved into the Marksmanship line, since that’s the trait line related to bows. Or it should be knocked down a tier. We shouldn’t be forced to invest so much into the critical hits line just to get decent use of our bows, especially since the critical hits mechanic has recently been nerfed by things like critical-immune bosses. And Two-Handed Training should be moved into Skirmishing or some other trait that works better with Greatsword. It just doesn’t make much sense in Nature Magic. This kind of change should be implemented for other weapon-related traits, too.

Pets should dodge more or have more health. We should be able to keep them hidden as long as we want to avoid aggro. When I get hit while trying to sneak through, I don’t need my pet to automatically pop up. Pet names should be permanent, but we should still be allowed to change them whenever we want. Most of all, pets should be able to adjust the trajectory of their attacks mid-movement, or something, so that they can hit moving targets. I love pet mechanics: the GW2 ranger pet system just needs to improve.

We should have more condition removal options. And possibly a way to have more frequent but small heals.

Lack of Sylvari Armor

I agree! More sylvari armor would be much appreciated. On the initial non-beta release, I was very disappointed at the number of sylvari armors. I had had the impression that there would be more. I’ve put together a good look, but I’d like more options so I can be a pretty sylvari medium class without being a Caithe-look-alike and/or having spikes. I was also very disappointed that my sylvari couldn’t be dressed like a sylvari until level 35. It took some getting used to to see her in human clothes. I’d like not only new sylvari armors, but ones that could be worn at low levels or at the start of the game (even if they don’t look incredibly awesome), so that each player can decide if his or her sylvari likes human clothes or not.

Whether or not it’s supposed to work like this, I’d like a slight change to make it easier to use. My problem isn’t the dodging per say. I snake bite and dodge and #2 and I’m fine most of the time. I just can’t disengage quickly if there’s a dangerous mob. Particularly in WvW. Surprise, here they are! Break away! I dodge back and then take another second to flip around and run, and by then I’m CC’d. If there was a skill that let me leap forward rather than back, or if I could roll forward and reliably break from the target lock, I could have that extra precious second.

A Very Merry Wintersday Feedback Thread

I heard that Anet only rereleased the same Wintersday rather than expand on it because they want to “focus on more Living Story content.” I think, Arena Net, that if you’re making decisions like that, you’re mistaken about where your priorities should lie. The most exciting parts of GW2 during 2012 for me and my friends were the Halloween and Wintersday events. We were hoping for more seasonal events as other holidays approached, such as Valentine’s Day, but that didn’t happen. I personally saw the Living Story as being a filler until winter came around again. It seems that you feel that the holiday events are now filler between Living Story patches. I would rather see some better holiday events, because 1. it’s really fun to go through new holiday stuff 2. Living Story has received mixed reception while the 2012 Halloween and Wintersday were, from what I remember, loved by almost everyone. If more effort is put into the holiday events like in 2012, then I and many of my friends would be very happy. If anyone else has the same feelings, please say so so that we can get Anet’s attention. And if other people found the 2012 holiday events to be boring or worse in comparison to the Living Story, feel free to contradict me. This was just my personal impression, that the holiday events were better.

Talking about LB and “Maximum” in the same sentence….
LB and quite a lot usefull effect?

1. no dmg…possibel an enemy could die how cruel!
2. less dmg then 1, and a little bit vul, but still not usefull
3. im stealthed guys! see u later die alone, possibel i will rezz u!
4. 60k 100B? Haha! not gonna happen BAM! Knockback!
5. Only usefull skill, but so much CD, that is should be only used to engage a fight, but even there it is worse then just playing GS with Swoop + Maul + Sword AA Chain. Or using Warhorn 4 and 5 while u are walking in melee range.

So if u have not rly a usefull effect to your party, but u´re dealing about 50% less dps then the swordranger with buffs. Possibel being the reason why bosses are using special anti ranged attacks on melees ( AC Spider, Lupicus Bubble/green stots).

Dealing all this dmg only to 1 enemy instead of 3, standig away from all buffs, don´t buffing a party.
Why by hell should any1 want a LB ranger? If u switch LB/axe and so on, u deal so less dps then all your support ist useless. Just any other class or player who can play his/her class will be better for the gruop. Even a daggernecro is better then a LB ranger.

If want to play it, cause u like it. Do it. But stop telling storys about how good u are for a party. Just enjoy a play what u want build, and join a play want u want gruops.

For one, please use grammar and spelling that can be more easily understood. Otherwise, you just don’t look very intelligent. 2nd, learn a bit more about longbow synergies before you write off everyone who uses it. This weapon is 60% of the reason why I can maintain high stacks of vulnerability for my party. They love it. Distance isn’t a problem for that particular 20-25% increase to their damage, and when I need to, I can send in my pets to give them boons or even charge in with sword/axe. Also, longbow with the piercing trait hits 2-3 enemies on 1 and 2 skills easily and gets the average aoe 5 with the 5 skill. What are you talking about that skill 2 doesn’t do much? Have you ever tried firing that thing off with quickness? Things go down fast.

Now, you’ll notice that these points mostly work for particular traits. Sure, longbow’s only useful for certain builds. But, I’d argue that it’s not alone in that regard. Daggers on light characters, anyone? Next time you guys see a longbow ranger, don’t immediately write him/her off as useless.

New Changes to Sylvari Cultural Armor

Why was the color changed?

in Sylvari

Posted by: ewhalen.8604

ewhalen.8604

Not to say that other people’s complaints aren’t legitimate, but I was actually very happy when I found that my coloration was close to how it used to be. I got that purple blending in the back that I was so fond of, and there is still a bit of glow! Thank you, Kristen! As others have said, there are some problems remaining that need some tweaking: I noticed the plasticy look that people were talking about when I turned up the graphics settings (at least in the Hero menu), and my Nightmare leggings don’t have the same glow as the rest of my armor (because the rest is a blend of cultural) which causes it to look black in darker environments. But, this update I think was a step in the right direction. If possible, I’d suggest that the glow effect have its own separate dye box. I don’t know what the limitations of the graphical engine are, though. I’m pleased with the yellow glow on my cultural t3 medium chest piece, but I’d like it even better if the glow could be light red like my sylvari’s skin glow.

Thanks again, Kristen!

Please remove Signet of the Beastmaster trait

in Ranger

Signet of the beast doesn’t just affect signet of stone. So you cant compare it to the immunity skill.

Correct, but Signet of Stone is probably the biggest factor when it comes to this trait. Early in the game (or maybe it was still the beta), there were Signet Rangers that used the Signet of Stone and a Signet cooldown-reducing trait in order to become almost perpetually invulnerable. There were amazing videos in circulation of Rangers outlasting Necros. To fix this, A-net bumped up the Signet of the Beastmaster trait and reduced the effect of the Signet cooldown trait. Signet of Stone would have to be addressed before they could bring the Signet of the Beastmaster trait down/give the effect without traiting. Or we’d possibly out-tank Guardians and Necros. Which I wouldn’t mind, but other people would. <<

Engineer’s too squishy and unprotected to take away any dodging options. I also wouldn’t mind investing in Explosives if Napalm Specialist didn’t already give me more Condition Duration than what the stats of 30 points in Explosives gives. Please entice us by making it worth it, not by making it necessary. It’s too easy for my engi to die as it is.

Make barrage a utility instead of a Longbow skill, and make it immobilize targets on the first wave and each wave of arrows apply a bleed to the target. I would also agree that without traits, the traps themselves are very ineffective. I think merging trappers expertise and potency to a single trait would be a great way to start fixing the absolute mess that is Ranger traits.

I agree with everything you say except the Barrage bit. I like having Barrage on my weapon skills; it’s one of the best weapon skills Ranger has. I wouldn’t want to have to use up a utility slot in order to use the only AoE Ranger weapon skill.

Spirits? I wanted to use them with the release of the game, and then I found that they weren’t very good. I finally decided on another build and retraited, and then they finally buffed the Spirits’ HP. I’d have to leave them where they are, now, if I used them, because the mobile trait requires so much investment. Or change my build again, which I’m not ready to do, yet. I’m tempted to say that they should move the mobile Spirits trait to 2nd tier.

Pace of new content - TOO FAST

ewhalen.8604

I also think it’s way too fast. I wish they’d at least leave the content up for longer, so I could eventually, after a few months, get enough of the whateverthisweek’sthingis token to buy something good. But what irritates me most is the forced pace through the game’s story. I really liked the stories introducing Rox and Braham, but I wish I could’ve taken more time to enjoy that. I just rushed through it to try to get the title. I see dialogue with characters in new Living Story content saying “Oh, hey, it’s you again. That was awesome what we did last time, wasn’t it?” And I’m thinking, “Um, yeah, because I totally did all of that and feel like I really contributed a lot to those events…not…” It’s really jarring and is keeping me from enjoying the story. These are essentially new parts of the game’s story; there are new major characters and character development from them. I’m really liking the story that these writers are coming out with. It’s fun to see, and it’s SO much better than Trahearne’s Gary-Stue takeover of the Pact. Unfortunately, I have to read most of this new story on Wiki in order to keep up. I had to read up to know the name of Braham’s father (went through it too fast in-game) and to see Logan explicitly address how Anise was trying to keep him away from Jennah (they made it way too hard to get to the dungeon this time). That’s not the way a game’s story is supposed to go. I’m supposed to be able to keep up with story and character development at MY own pace, not the developers’. I have school, and work, and other more important real life things to play 2-3 hrs a day in order to get all of the story, achievements, items, etc before they just disappear.

Like, stop the rotation and just have all of them there, and I could go around with my friends in any dungeon/WvW/whatever and get the daily without thinking about it. I mean, WvW makes it quick for me, but since I’m bad at roaming solo, I need friends on, and that doesn’t happen often… Sometimes all I have in a day is 30 mins, and that’s usually not enough for me to get the daily—much less to have fun while doing so (sorry if I’m not as skilled as the rest of you).

The 10 in Nature Magic allows me to have brief Protection if I get hit hard (Nature’s Protection). With the armor and runes added, I have all the damage and still am not a glass cannon (at least, I don’t think I am). I use Quickness with Rapid Fire, which is nasty. Actually, I thought it was going to give you kind of a permanent personal waypoint… Like an actual personal waypoint (perhaps free) rather than a map marker, so that it would make it easier to get around to your favorite locations. If it did that, I wouldn’t mind a high-cost one-time use item. But I guess that’s not the case… Wonder if I should just sell my recipe now before everyone figures out how useless it is.

This is Caisidhe, my Sylvari Ranger. She’s got some lower-tier cultural armor for pants and boots and the Honor of the Waves dungeon vest. I was in a rush, so I didn’t fuss with things to get her Fern Hound in there. Eventually, I want the Firstborn coat for her.

I also ask for the preview change to be reversed, for the same reasons others have stated: it’s nice to be able to preview armor for your other characters so you can decide whether to keep a newly obtained piece. Without this ability, you have to hold on to pieces longer in order to preview them properly. In dungeons or other instances, that’s quite annoying because of the sheer amount of loot you have to fit into your inventory. And even if you’re not stuck in an instance, it’s annoying to have to switch. Please fix it so any character can preview any armor.
