Low shaders visual issue

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: fizz.4536

fizz.4536

This came to my attention a little while ago, but I wasn’t sure if it was a bug or something else. Support told me to post it here so the devs are aware of the issue, or if it is even an issue.

Onward, so the three things I have noticed are Matthias’s reflect bubble, the reflect bubble on the 100 scale fractal, and Xeras floor and Ambient Reflect. Xeras floor will be a very muddy dark brown color, which turns white if you change your shaders from low to medium. This seems very odd to me, but it’s not such an issue. Her reflect bubble has the same issue as the others.

With the fractal 100, the bubble is transparent, but very cluttered with a large visual noise texture. This is the example attached here, and linked below. This is also not such a problem, but I think it’s tied to the same shader issue.

The biggest problem with this is Matthias. So this obviously affects reflecting his mechanics as it’s a lot hard to see through his shield than the medium and above settings. When his reflect drops, if you have a lot going on, it’s almost impossible to see through and judge his animations and attack.

My general question and concern is why are they so drastically different. There have been many complaints over the years about visual noise, and we got visual culling. While this is enabled you get similar aura effects applied to you much like the visual output of the medium shaders. Is there something that low shader settings interferes with when enabled, resulting in drastically altered visuals for these objects?

This obviously only affects a few players of the game, but it’s something that’s been bugging me for some time. I had to stop trying to reflect Matthias for example, but I would screw it up without failure while playing on my Dragon Hunter.

I’ve not seen this mentioned while skimming through this thread. But here’s another bug to add to the collection of broken stuff.

Twilight: Dusk III

Breach Copper Gloom
It seems that it’s impossible to loot this from Red Copper Husk. I’ve tried several times and still nothing.

There’s also a few issues with naming of various mini-dungeon locations. The dungeon names are right, but check them on the wiki if you’re not sure where they are as for example Lair of the Coil isn’t in Mount Maelstrom. And Sloven Pitch is in Fireheart Rise, not Frostgorge Sound

I’ve yet to also look gloom from Grenth, but I don’t know if this is a bug, or if I’ve missed something, but so far, Copper is not working at all.

Dissapointed about seasonal guild decorations

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

So we have a new profession, Scribing. I’ve never been a huge crafter in the game, but we need this profession to make decorations for our hall. This I’m fine with, as it gives me something to work towards, but there’s two huge gates in my way that kind of make decorating a huge disappointment.

One being you need the decorations merchant at level 1 to buy a lot of things. This isn’t such a big issue as it’s part of leveling up your hall to do these fun things.

The part that really gets me is needed 3 resonating silver for every single thing. I understand that some things need to be kept locked away, but why use this material which is only rewarded through guild missions???

I’m not really complaining about these items being difficulty to obtain, but it seems seasonal things that are here for 2 weeks maximum, should be a little easier to obtain. Pumpkins for instance are 100 candy corn from the decoration trader. Why aren’t the other Halloween items also in this vendor? I’m not asking they be super cheap, but please make them at least accessible while the holiday takes place.

My guess is that anything made within the scribe can be crafted all year around. But this still makes me wonder why everything requires so much of a material that possibly won’t flood the economy. This also makes me wonder if we are meant to band together as a guild and have one person learn to scribe everything and you just send them the materials.

[Mac] Guild Hall upgrades panels not working!

Hey friends,

The team is aware Mac users are unable to interact with any of the new guild hall panels and are investigating.

Thank you for keeping us updated Dara. I had a rather lengthy chat with several support ticket replies with you guys. They were most helpful even though we determined this was an in game bug and not something system related.

I’m glad it’s not just me then. Sadly the mac posts seem to get neglected which disappointments me a little. Hopefully everyone who has this issue reports it. I had a trouble ticket reply, which basically told me to run some windows diag program. Obviously doesn’t help though as it seemed more of a generic response. I guess they skipped over that it was a mac issue and not a windows issue.

I appear to be having issues with interacting with the guild hall upgrades and any UI related to guild halls. I can open the windows, but they seem to open, then the contents takes ages to load. Once loaded I can hover over all the icons for upgrades, but cannot interact, scroll or apply any upgrades in any window.

This is the same no matter which NPC I talk to, that be it in the guild hall, or the HQ in LA.

I don’t know if this is an isolated issue or not, but with a lot of mac players not being able to even load the game. I’m guessing it is not just me. I have performed a clean install of the GW2 client, made sure all caches are clean and I’m still having these repeat issues.

If i log into windows on another machine, I can access everything just fine.

This evening I ran into a bug where I cannot interact with the whole guild hall upgrades panel. It takes ages to load, and once loaded it’s just a static box. I can’’t across, or really interact with anything.

This is obviously problematic as I can’t progress anything guild hall related without this panel working.

I’m playing on OSx Yosemite 10.10.5, though this is the only panel in game I can’t use. I have issues with the gemstore loading, but it all seems to work fine when I do get it to load.

I’m not sure if this is an isolated issue, but it makes the guild halls obsolete if I can’t do anything with them.

I posted this on Reddit yesterday, and it became quite popular which was surprising. Anyhow, kitten many people enjoyed it, and I know not everyone looks on Reddit. I thought I’d post it here as well.

I made a sculpture of the pink Quaggan as my wife finds them cute. It was just a random project that took about 4-5 hours to complete including sculpt time and final paint.

Materails:

  • Polymer Clay
  • Wood Filler
  • Liquitex Acrylic Paint

Something for next Wintersday.

I may have got the time frame wrong, they were just so close together. But I still think it would make for a fun Wintersday event due to where it was held. Going from one snowy filled Lion’s Arch to a snow filled area kept the festive feel to me.

Either way I doubt it will happen, but I feel it might be a fun thing to add as something to do outside what there is. It’s a shame they didn’t add a bit more to this years event. Doesn’t have to be much, but it’s going to get stale with a lot of people really fast. I’ve already noticed the huge drop in population in DR within the past 24 hours as people have realized it’s a bit empty.

This will probably be ignored, but I thought I’d make a suggestion anyhow. So around this time last year we we’re subjected to Scarlet’s attack in Lonars Pass. So with how barren Wintersday has become, and I am fully aware that the festivals are designed to be re-used over and over as just a short event to do between Living Story updates and the various other real world holidays.

Anyhow, back on topics, so as we had the Marionette to play with last year, my suggestion would be to bring back a form of the Marionette as a form of raid type Wintersday event. There’s been a lot of hate towards this Wintersday, and I can see why. There’s very little to do outside the four activities.

I personally don’t hate Wintersday, or any of the other events, but I’m not going to grind through the giant presents to get a Ho-Ho-Tron when they’re dropping in price daily already. As to be fair, that’s all I’m after. Though the salvageable items for fabric is also nice. As well as a touch of luck thrown in here or there.

@anayandrell, thanks for the advice. This clay is a medium I’ve never used. So yep, pure beginner when it comes to it. It’s interesting about the freezing process. It’s something I didn’t come across when reading about the clay. I will have to try it out at some point to see the results. When it comes to clay I tend to test the breaking point a little. I’ve found this stuff to be quite tough, so the thing edges wasn’t such an issue, but I know what you mean.

When I came to the painting, it’s the part I thought about the most. I know the colors are off and don’t match the game model dead on. It’s something I decided to play around. I found trying to match the colors dead on just didn’t fit the sculpt, so I branched out some and used my own color swatches on.

I also looked around at various clays, I didn’t find anything in a clear, though I could have probably cast resin molds for those. Thank you for the feedback, whatever project I work on next I’ll keep this info in mind. Also thanks for being constructive.

@Mad Queen Malafide That’s one project that would be an interesting sculpt, but I’m not sure I’d have it in me to sculpt it. Not without either breaking my brain in the process. There’s only one logical way I could think of how to complete it, and that would be to build it like a real marionette which may be past my ability. I’ll keep it in mind though.

It’s not my first, but it’s my first sculpt like this in about 15 years. It was a little ambitious seeing as I’ve not done this sort of work in a long time. But I’m happy with the results.

I posted this to reddit last night under http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/2otrdw/artwork_personal_wurm_mini/, but I thought I’d share it here also as not everyone uses reddit.

I’ve always wanted my own personal mini wurm. Every single the evolved jungle wurm was introduced into the game. So three month ago stated working on my very own mini version of the coablt wurm. My first steps were a bit off, well extremely, so I started over a month later and finally finished wurm on the project yesterday.

This lag is getting ridiculous.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: fizz.4536

fizz.4536

I run into lag every so often on this game. And no it’s not my line, isp or general area. It’s something to do with guild wars. But I’ve noticed a trend. More often than not, I always land on an IP that’s totally bugged to hell with lag and latency issues.

There’s a post in the bug forum about it, which is IP 161. It could be possible that you keep landing on bad IPs that always have lag. I’ve found a few from 160 – 169 are all bad for this. It might not be your problem, but if you land in this IP range, it might be why.

If you don’t know how to check your map IP, just type /ip and look at the last few numbers of the address.

As I mentioned, this might be the issue in some cases, but not all. There’s a few other IP ranges that also suffer from serious lag. I don’t have a note of them, but I know 160+ has issues.

I have very few issues with the client, though I’m still using 10.9.5 as I’ve discovered that Razor can’t be bothered to fix their driver software on Yosemite.

I have played GW2 on Yosemite for a short period before downgrading and it seemed to run just fine. In fact it seemed to run a lot smoother than it does on 10.9.

I don’t have the highest specs, as this is a 2010 machine, but you can see the specs below:

OSx 10.9.5
iMac 2010 21"
3.2 GHz Inter Core i3
12gbs 1333 MHz DDR3 Ram
ATI Radeon HD 5670 512mb

Obviously not he highest specs, but if i switch to windows I can run the game on pretty consistent medium settings for everything and get 50fps. Sadly I only really get about 25 fps as a solid rate on Mavericks.

It’s funny how the same machine an run so much cleaner when not using cider.

Rep: Not Required
Skill Level Beginner – Advanced

So if the title caught your attention, you’ve decided to find out a little more about us and what we do. We’re a multi-server guild based in Sorrows Furnace. But don’t let that stop you, we’re looking to fill our ranks with new and experienced players. We’re looking for friendly, fun vibrant players who’re just looking to have fun.

So why don’t we require reaping?, quite simply we just don’t feel that you should be forced to rep a guild. We don’t run structured guild events every week, but it’s something we’re open to. We’re still slowly building up the tiers of our guild, and we’re not quite there yet, but if there’s a demand for guild missions, bounties we will do our best to work towards them.

I’m interested, but makes you different?
Glad you asked, or even thought about this question. The guild is made up of various ranks, each rank represents the type of player you are, or what you’re interested in. After your rank has been assigned, other player can then dip into the guild roster to find like minded players to do dungeons, fractals, world bosses, loot farming. Or just ask for advice on general stuff in the game. So we’re not really a guild in the traditional manner, we’re a gather of like minded players looking to have fun.

Our Ranks:
Our ranks aren’t set in stone, so there’s more on the way as we expand, but we currently use the following ranks to define our members. Our ranks don’t really have a tier, everyone’s on the same level, we just use ranks to define our players interests and make it easier for new players to find people to play with.

[Leader]
We maintain the guild and keep it healthy.

[Follower]
Established guild members who’re helping promote the guild and earn influence. Normally up for just about anything.

[Fractured]
These players can normally be found in fractals, or are willing to help other players learn how to do them.

[Mist Walker]
Likes to spend their time in the mists looting, leveling, leading or just having fun.

[Dungeon Lurker]
Can normally be found lurking in the dark hunting that most previous shiny.

[Raider]
This term may sound quite broad, but you will find these players slaying their way through various world bosses, and world events.

[Looter]
Interested in farming loot, killing everything in sight, can normally be found playing with the wildlife in Tyria.

[New Blood]
Welcome to the guild. These players haven’t yet found their way, need some guidance or just haven’t declared what their interest if yet.

So what can we offer you?
We do just about everything you can think of. We want to grow and help new and experienced players come have somewhere to find other like minded players to do stuff with.

So here’s a list of stuff we focus on:

  • World Bosses
  • Fractals
  • Dungeons
  • PvP
  • World Events
  • Living Story
  • Season Events
  • Looting
  • Friendly Atmosphere

If you’d like to join us and grow [VAWA] into something awesome, you can contact me directly in game or by posting below.

[PROs and CONs] New Trading Post

Posted by: fizz.4536

fizz.4536

So far the alterations to the trading post have been a nice addition to the game for me, though there are a few things that do bug me a little. I’m not going to list the things that I find great, as there’s just no reason to, so here’s a short list of things that I believe may help.

- Selling items slider should be set to max instead of minimum amount
- Re-introduction of pages. For myself on a slightly lower end computer, rendering large lists of items is very very slugging while scrolling and loading.
- Projected profit

These are small changes that would be awesome in my opinion, though they may not affect everyone. Having to load large lists with an endless scroll kills the loading time and user experience for myself. And I know it does for quite a lot of other people as well who don’t have the money to buy power house machines.

Status of Mac Beta

Posted by: fizz.4536

fizz.4536

It’s pretty sad to say, but the “Mac Beta”, will probably never end. The only reason I say this is because there’s no real client, it’s just a wrapped windows client. Hence all the limitations it has.

Today I decided to try the game out on windows using my machine, have to say the performance form the same hardware was a shock. If we’re lucky we may see a native client sometime in the distant future, but my general assumption is that a wrapper is good enough to allow mac users to play the title.

I find this a s little sly as the game was advertised to work on both platforms. But unless Anet hires a team to write a full client and work on it along side the main teams to make sure everything works right, we’re just going to have to wait and see what comes up.

You’re not alone, there’s a small section of this community that’s been waiting since the mac beta launch to play on a native client.

I’m not really one to post things like this, or even complain much about this mac client as I know it’s more of a way to allow players on a mac to experience the game without having to go to windows.

That being said, I’ve had zero issues apart from the trading post going a little wonky here and there in the past. That’s up until the recent patches for Dragon’s Reach Part 2. The game still works fine, but now the game client keeps crashing out with the CharMotion error, or now this new one which I’ve attached a screenshot of.

I’m not playing on a laptop, just the usual desktop. Though not the highest specs, I’ve found the game runs perfectly fine otherwise. So I know it’s not my hardware. But regardless of this error message saying it’s been reported, I’d rather post about it anyhow even if it’s just overlooked.

Prime Hologram spawn killing?

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: fizz.4536

fizz.4536

I’m sure this has happened to many, I know I’m not the only one, so I thought I’d bring it up here just in case it’s been ignored. As many are aware, when jumping into the portal to fight the Prime Hologram, you normally end up dead due to the lightning scorch waiting for you as you spawn in.

This is extremely annoying, as it seems to wipe out half the players trying to get into the battle to start with. It makes sense that Scarlet has started to attack, but it would be nice if the patterns were adjusted a little so you didn’t just jump into a portal of death every time. So far I’ve gone up against Scarlet about 8 times and 7 of those has started off with a insta-death from the very beginning.
