Agree with UrieltheFlameofGod, trash in dungeons is a bit much.

IMHO trash should be easy, a welcoming breather between the hard boss fights, somewhere were you can spam your aoe and feel like a kitten.

In GW2 most of the time the trash are harder than the actual bosses.

Sry to keep QQing but the Pristine fractals relics don’t go far enough. I’ve already done Jade Maw dailies for a couple of weeks, I don’t want to run them dozen more times to get rings.

I’ve overflowing with fractals tokens , I think you award 30-50 of them for a complete run , can we plz exchange 50*10=500 tokens for a ring ?

They are pushing too many contents into recent updates, so I won’t mind waiting for another day to make sure things don’t get messed up when they are released.

They are just waiting for the fresh paint to dry on the giant golum airship.

Or, they were wrapping gifts that Trixx would be dropping , and they ran out of wrapping paper. They sent Jon Peters and Jon Sharp to buy more, however both of them are arguing on what color wrapping paper to get.

Or , someone one spilled coffee on the main server and wiped the entire build.

If it is any consolation I am on scale 22 and have accrued over1600 fractal tokens and not yet gotten a ring either. It is RNG with the Jade Maw.

We are exploring alternatives to the current system.

10 days straight no rings, im so depressed. This quote really cheered me up

I’ll keep it short:

1. Boss fights are simply not up to par with the current generation MMOs. There is very little scripting and a serious lack of variety in terms of interesting mechanics. Boss HP is too high for how little they actually do; huge HP bars only work with different phases to keep things interesting.

2. Dungeons are messy. Groups dynamics function more like a bunch of piranhas than an actual cohesive unit, there is little meaningful interaction between group members, even with mechanics such as combo fields in the mix.

In every other way Arenanet took the genre forward but here I’m don’t think they’ve even managed to prove that intricate, meaningful dungeons can even be done without the trinity.

I’m never going back to trinity.

GW2 needs more mechanics like combo field effects, timewap etc to encourage teamwork and coordination.

I won’t say all GW2 dungeons are awful. I think cliffside, CoF, mad king dunegon are pretty cool. I really like the fractal difficulty scaling. Lets people pick their own difficulty like in single players. I’m finding 14+ fractals hard, so i’ll just stop and play 10-14 fractals, im not punished for not progressing.

I’m confident a year from now GW2 will have the best encounters.

  • Please use less CCs (like knockbacks, immobilze) mechanics in encounter design. Its not a good experience when i lose control of my character.
  • Please have boss aggro evenly split between the party.
  • Would be nice if boss loses aggro on a player when they enter downed state.
  • Please keep the token system, I really hate RNG gear drops.
  • Please add phases to boss fights, Giganticus Lupicus is freaking hard , but i rather fight him than the jelly fish boss.
  • Please use Boss abilities( that one shot you ), sparingly.

WoW has a lot of thing I hate, however I think their encounter design is superb. Their dungeons are pretty straight forward , trash to boss to trash to boss, however every boss fight feels fresh.

EDIT: Overall im happy with the reward i get from doing explorable duengons , they seem fair. Its the RNG for the ascendant ring that annoys me.

Yes, you are correct. That is the chance of getting 10 rings in 10 chests.

But what about the probability of getting AT LEAST ONE RING from the 10 chests? That will the the 100% minus the probability of getting NO RINGS AT ALL, correct? The probability of getting NO RINGS AT ALL is 0.8^10 = 0.107. So the probability of getting AT LEAST ONE RING will be 1 – 0.107 = 0.89. 89%, essentially.

Sorry Ursan , you are right (im being sincere). The chance of me and other failing at the ascendant ring drop chance for so many continuous runs is indeed very rare.

I had the same bad luck in WoW, went thru entire firelands without raid level shoulders.

I just hate the RNG mechanic.

I think they said they’re working on it. My problem is they didn’t realize this would be an issue until after the backlash. It’s scary when devs are this out of touch. Doesn’t bode well for the future.

I so agree. Unlike other games, in MMOs there is a long term relationship between Devs and players. I typically don’t play games past 60 hrs, however i’ve played gw2 over 600 hrs now .The vision they have shown in starting zones is lost post lvl 80 .With each patch , I’m losing trust in the Devs.

I don’t think what I consider fun = what the Devs think is fun.

Case and point , the harpie knockback mechanic in higher lvl fractals. In who’s twisted opinion , is that mechanic fun.

I really don’t want to sound patronizing but…..I think you should read my text/formulas more carefully.

I understand they’re separate events. That is why I am multiplying the drop chances.

Also I am not saying after you open 9 chests, you should have a 90% chance to get a ring in the 10th chest. You will have a 20% chance still to get a ring on your 10th chest. However, when you look at all 10 events overall, you HAD a 90% chance to get at least one ring.

I think you are interpreting the Multiplication rule incorrectly

So Chance of ring drop say is 20%. So my chances of getting 10 rings from 10 straight events is 0.2^10 = 10 in 1 Million. that is how it is used.

Dude you calculation are correct if this was all a single event like a raffle or a lottery draw. The more tickets you have the better your chances of winning.

But each daily chest opening is a SEPARATE EVENT , you cannot add the drop chance. Please refer to your text, your applying the wrong formula, you can’t use it here. 10th time i run the daily , my chances of getting the ring is not 90%.

I’m willing to bet that that law of probability doesn’t apply there. The chance is the same every time you run it.

I’m not sure what you mean by “law of probability doesn’t apply…” (Because it does always) But I wanted to clear up and misunderstandings/confusion I may have caused.

Probability says, that after you’ve opened 17 chests, the 18th chest will have a 20% chance to drop a ring. What you’ve done previously will not affect what you do next.

However, in those 17 chests you’ve opened, you HAD a 2.25% probability that you get absolutely nothing. And if you got nothing, then you had a bad luck since there was a 97.75% chance of getting AT LEAST 1 ring.

Hope this makes sense.

However i give you this. I’ve run 10 dailies and I saw 0 rings. So I’m experiencing 0% drop chance, however we know this not true. The drop chance is 20%. So the more runs I do , eventually my drop chance will approach 20%. But in no scenario will my drop chance be better than 20%.

Just some advise (I’m not sure if this applies to you or not).

But try doing the 10-18, 20-28, 30-38 dailies with multiple characters. You’ll maximize your odds of getting a ring that way, instead of just running fractals ad nausea with just one character.

Just some quick calculations.

Assuming 20% chance for a ring to drop from a daily.
Assuming just doing one tier of daily
Assuming using one character.
So a total of 7 tries

You have about ~20.9% chance of not getting ANYTHING at all.

But if you say, do it with two characters instead (total of 14 tries)
you now are looking at ~4.3% chance of not getting ANYTHING. Not bad odds at all, unless you’re really unlucky!

I don’t think thats how it works. Every time you run a daily , your chance is always 20%. Doesn’t matter that you have run it 100 times, your 101st time is still 20%.

Toss a coin 100 times its still 50% chance of heads , toss a coin 1000 times its 50%.

Getting a large sample pool only helps in determining the true drop chance.

So I’m having terrible luck with the Ascendent rings , running tier 10+ jade maw boss for over 10 days now and no ring for me. Today 3 ppl in my party got the ring.

Depends on the back peice you want. I only spent about 5g for all the T6 mats (already had 50 globs of ecto) for my back peice. I am now saving ectos to get it infused (need 250 ectos, will take me a while).
If you are relatively poor like me then choose a different back peice, not all the T6 mats are 20s+ each. Ancient bones were only 1s80c when I bought nearly 250 of them.

Yeah thats a good tip , I think bones gives 35 Precision, 35 Toughness, 56 Condition Damage, which isn’t too shabby for my build. If i run into Agony before i get my 250 powerful blood , I’ll probably do that.

I don’t get the part about 250 ects for infusion. Simple infusions are only 75 tokens.

Aye I enjoyed the event, my guild was slumping a bit , even the guild master stopped logging in .

Bcuz of the event , everyone logged on and i had a blast running around with them.

It felt like a 25-man raiding in WoW but without the stress.

In my opinion, Fractals of the Mist is a complete fail.

Thats the nature of PUGs in MMO, designers can’t do anything about it.

I PUG a lot too, what I do is build up a contact list of some competent players i come across and I whisper them first to see if they r available before i spam trade chat.

The back braces you buy with tokens are called “Prototype Fractal Capacitator.”

Atm the Capacitor the vendor sells for 1350 tokens are just exotic without a infusion slot.

And fractals are rewarding but they don’t generate anywhere near the amt of gold that i need to buy 250 T6 mats.

Im not asking for handout, for exp dungeons , you buy everything with tokens except trinkets. And just doing dungeons was enough. Now you have to supplement it with farming mobs in L80 zones for these mats.

All im asking is make ascended items drop from higher lvl fractals or have them available for 2000 tokens or something.

First of all , i really like Fractals, really like running them , now to my rant

So I find out that infusion and rings i can get by just running fractals , which is good , i like fractals and ascended gear is mandatory for fractal runners. So make sence that ascended gear is reward for doing fractals.

However for backpiece i need to mystic forge them , receiver is

1 Vial of Condensed Mists Essence + 250 Philosopher’s Stone/40 Crystal + 50 Glob of Ectoplasm + 250 T6 Fine Crafting material

250 T6 material is insane, you are forcing me to stop playing fractals, instead go and farm for these mats. The thing that appealed to me about Gw2 was if I like activity A , then i can get rewarded by just doing activity A.

Am I wrong , are Ascended backpieces available as drops too in higher level fractals ?

Also why drops instead of tokens ? I hate the RNG of drops, i though the token system is working well for Exp dungeons.

Can you fix it (culling) ?

If it helps, I don’t mind if instead of showing actual players models, you show us instead some generic/clone player model. Some differentiation to show if its a warr , necro etc would be nice.

A party of five will enter the dungeon and be faced with a random set of three of these dungeons at a time. Upon completing those three, the party will be transported to a hub to rest, repair, and merch — and the difficulty scale for the dungeon will be raised. Every time the difficulty scale is at an even number, players will face a special boss encounter.

So If I understand this right

  • Ppl enter dungeon , diffculty 0
  • People complete 3 mini dunegons , ,get sent to rest area, which is still inside dunegon
  • They start dungeon again, difficulty raised to 1
  • They complete 3 mini dunegons again ,difficulty raised to 2 ,this time they face a boss
  • They leave the dungeon , go back to LA
  • Next day when they comeback , Will the difficulty be 0 or 2?

Spent 6 hours yesterday wiping to Giganticus Lupicus , the only waypoint my grp got was near the first boss. So It meant if you die you could not make it back in time before everyone else died too and it reset.

I feel Anet does take into account Graveyard zerging , that is why bosses are so hard. Zerging lets players of a wide skill level down bosses.

If Anet doesn;t want people to zerg bosses, then please go all the way. Close the doors to bosses chamber, then tune the difficulty accordingly.

So Waypoint in dungeons , in some of them like CoF they spawn quite regularly after boss killss . However in others like CM , TA, Arah, you only get 1 additional one and no more.

Is this a bug or working as intended.

I don’t mind Slot machine mechanics with in-game money or resources, but with IRL money I hate it. I only spent 450 gems on keys and i’m kitten off that i got nothing, I can’t even imagine how other who spent a lot more r dealing with this.

Anet, plz just put the Greatsword chainsaw skin on gem store. I’ll be happy to pay for it , don’t ask me to gamble for it.

Same here I only use pistol-pistol or shortbow in dunegons. Many of the fights are not melee friendly at all.

Hey Anet,

I think I understand what your trying to do with explorable dungeons here. You want them to be the endgame , the hardest thing in the game. Its the most epic thing we can do.

However here are the issues.

Most of us come from other MMOs , for most of us dungeons just a stepping stones for bigger and more epic things. Finishing a dungeons is no big accomplishment. However GW2 dungeons are exactly the opposite thing , it is a bigkitten accomplishment. This is confusing us , everyone expects to die in WoW raids , no one complains , however if you die in WoW dungeons ur a loser. Its not our fault. WoW has conditioned us that the word dungeon is easy. I don’t think the word “DUNGEON” is the right one for GW2. Solution : Rename them to raids, or super duper operations or something.

Oh explorable mode is such a bad name, call it Heroic or elite or Real-man mode or something.

Then there is the lore. The dungeons are totally backwards. Its easier to kill Zhaitan in story mode, but its impossibly hard to kill his minions !! Same with AC , King Adelbern is the more epic villain, it would have been more epic to kill him in Explorable mode than a bunch of gavelings.

I recently finished the Story mode and all 3 explorable paths in AC. I should have felt like an accomplishment , like when i felt when i cleared Deathwing or Ragnaros or Nefarian, instead i was just relieved that now i could get out of there.

Killing Zhaitan lore wise was necessary or the world would be doomed. Killing Giganticus Lupicus felt optional, no big deal.

And reward us better, the armour is cool but takes forever to get all the pieces. I know theres an Achive when you finish a whole dungeon but its not obvious. Give us a mini (like a ethereal cat for AC ) or a title (like Ghostbuster or graveling slayer for AC)

tl;dr Usually in other games dunegons are easy, GW2 dungeons are not, so rename them to something else. Explorable dungeons bosses should be epic and have gravity. Like King Adelbern and Zhiatan , graveling and oozes don’t make epic bosses.

Agree with Rinbox.2570 , we have to approach these dungeons with the raiding mindset.

Research about them, spec correctly, get food buffs, and expect to die a lot of times.

As a former wow player i am approaching dungeons from wow players view. They r supposed to be easy, ur supposed to clear them in one go and puggable. I was so wrong.

However GW2 dunegons r totally different. They r the hardest things you can do this game. They r as difficult as wow raids. Bcuz they r just 5man and there r 24 of them they don’t feel epic. So when you say “hey i cleared all 3 paths in AC” it doesn’t carry the say weight as “I cleared heroic deathwing”.

I be willing to bet that a significant population are using this exploit. Every pug i’ve been in knows about it and is using it.

Perma banning 10-20% of ur users within the first month is not a good start.

That being said I do feel bad for using this exploit. They expect us to run this dungeon 70 times to get all our gear. They want us to be farmers. You can make something hard or grindy, but not both.

And people who say , we can do the door buster phase, its easy, no problem at all. YOU GOT TO BACKUP UR CLAIM WITH VIDEOS or something , help us noobs out.

State of CoF Exploit

Well path 1 is impossibly hard, those who made it were lucky with crystal RnG spawn.
path 3 ’s rewarding is broken.

That leaves just path 2, the door buster with a PuG is pretty hard. I never managed to survive longer than 70sec let alone 200sec.

What we needed were tutorial dungeons that helped us get used to our classes and the non trinity paradyne. We need dungeons that gradually increased in difficulty. Give us hellmode before you dumped inferno mode on us.

Dungeons hit pretty hard so i have to remove points away from deadly arts, crit and put them in Shadow arts and acrobatics.

Its not bad I picked glyphs that improve dps.

I like this build a lot, does good things when you crit like apply a debuff or gain initiative. Or when you go stealth or dodge gain might.

Several dungeon encounters are intentionally designed to be not melee friendly. Thief lack of 1200 weapon is a serious hamper.

Yeah I didn’t spec into Vitality tree at all before, and now have 15pts in it.
