Help: Mesmer or/vs Necromancer (current Meta)

Hi all,

Would like to ask which is the better class for long term. The Mesmer or Necro?

I already have a ranger, which I main currently.

And a Guardian and Engineer which I leveled up then left alone.

Just came back and got HoT and got a lvl80 boost. Which class should I play?

Looking for a Scholar class that would be fun pve-ing across the world and with good end game potential and is different from my ranger.

Thanks and Regards,
Joel

Condition or Power Build Ranger

Hi All,
Just came back after 3 years. I was near fully Grenth and Berserker Geared for both Conditions and Power exotics.

Which path is current the most viable for PvE, Dungeons/Fractals now?

Am also running HoT now and Live Season 2. Which build overall is the way to tide me over PvE content which will transfer over well to Dungeons/Fractals and Raids?

Currently running a glyph + shout (marksmen, Druid, Beastmastery) power build.

Not sure if my constant pet switching (to get call of the wild) is kitten ing my dps. Also I near always am on longbow as there is no sync with melee weapons due to range differences. I mostly use sword/axe to jump away…. Will Greatsword be better? I tried Staff, but to me staff in pve is very useless (aka I do not know how to use it)

And other then Glyph of Empowerment, what other glyph is good? I am always too ranged for the other Glyphs. Also my shouts are Sic Em and the Elite one to increase swiftness and might.

How is GW2 now?

Hi all,
I am looking to return to GW2 as I saw the 50% sale for HoT. So how is the game now? Left the game 3 years ago.

Also I left due to some issues that caused me rage. They are below and would like to ask, are they solved or non-issues now?

Below are my reasons for leaving (which might sound bad, by it my honest feelings, sorry):
~ I left GW2 when Facturals came out due to the massive boring grind it brought.
~ And how it killed dungeons for me, as no one wanted to grind exotics anymore.
~ Also due to the legendaries that appeared after many promises not to do a horizontal RNG gear upgrade and MASSIVE grind it brought. Which I hated beyond words. Mystic Forge and RNG drops…
~ Oh and yea, after many many months of them not repairing my broken class (was ranger). I remembered they had what 2 or 1 person doing class balancing and Soldier kept getting better and Ranger worst…
~ Oh also WvW got broken after they kept of fixing it to broken-ness.
~ And how each balance steamlined each class to lesser and lessers variations builds till only 1 or 2 builds were Good and the rest not so.
~ Lastly I got temp banned a few times asking for ranger re-balance, which was not fun for me. This is a real thing, the actually temp banned people for asking to many times, where is the promised class changes and why they introduced Ascended against their promises.

So… sorry about the above. I put it all there to simply ask… Has Areanet solved most or all the above. GW2 had so many great things but in the end, my angry got in the way of my enjoyment and I felt that leaving was good for all and my health.

But I still got great memories for GW2 and the HoT discount might be a good time for me to come back to it. Yet before I do, would like to ask… How is GW2 now and is the above still issues?

I 100% agree with you OP. Their whole attitude towards the great many unresolved issues that plague the game makes me believe that the game is doing very bad. Perhaps they have not sold nearly as many copies than they had predicted. Every day more players are quitting the game. Their actions appear like they are just trying to squeeze out the loyal player base for every penny they can get before the whole game goes down the drain. My minds made up. Unless they make due I won’t spend another dime in the cash shop.

After Lost Shore, I decided to take a break from the game till the next patch.

I played Ranger and was burned out from begging them to fix my class.
Also was a strong dungeoneer and to find my gear was now obsolete after only 2 months was discouraging.
Also was discouraged after playing FotM, the RNG system is super depressing to keep on hearing guildies and pugs getting ascended gear or mats and I not getting a single thing after playing so many times in full MF gear.

It has been 2 weeks plus and there has not been any patch at all. Not even a small one.

Well at the very least, it has helped me get over GW2. Where once I used to play at least 2~3 hours a day, now I don’t any more. I just log into the forums to read up on what is happening, once a day or less.

And what I read in the forum is extremely not motivating.

How many here are playing less? And why?

Hi fellow forum-ers,

Recently, after FotM came out, I have extremely scaled back my time spend in GW2.

So I would like to ask:
1. Who here, still come to forums but play the game much less?
2. When did you start playing less?
3. Why / What caused the decline in time spent?

For me:
1. I cannot seem to stop coming to these forums. I guess, I am hoping beyond hope to hear something wonderful from Anet. Like no more ascended gear grind :P

Also it seems that posting on this forum can be more entertaining then playing GW2 FotM with PUGs sometimes :P

2. After the 3nd day of Lost Shores.

3. Could not stand my guildies keep on getting those pink Vials of Mist and I getting zero (I admit, it is my own jealousy). Even after I started to equip full MF gear, MF booster, MF food, etcI did not get any Vials of Mists in guild groups, while others keep getting them and spamming them in Guild chat.

Took a break for a day, when I came back, my guild has leveled beyond me. Afer a few PUGs, I decided to take a break to caught up on other games.

Do not agree, it will make use too OP. Instead they should add swiftness to a few of our skills.

2. Always Bleed on Crossfire
I do not think that is needed. I would like to see a huge increase in usefulness of the the other 4 skills in terms of more dps and more conditions application.

No one wants someone that makes their grind even more grindy and/or difficult.

Just look at the amount of grind FotM introduces, for people to stay relevant. You are just compounding the issue.

If you check “no” that you didn’t participate in the event, it gives you space to say why.

If you later check “no”, that you didn’t invite any friends, it gives you another space to say why.

They might not have asked about ascended gear, but that didn’t stop me from letting them know how I felt about it.

After doing the survey, I find my answers can be summed up in 5 words.
“No, because of Vertical Grind”.

Did you invite friends? See above

Should max stat gear be easy to be obtained?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: gadenp.7586

gadenp.7586

To answer the original question:
Yes, I strongly believe that max stat gear should be easily obtainable, no 70g a piece bullkitten. This allows everyone to have the same statistical strength and would allow casuals to just drop in and play without having to worry about being excluded or dragging down their party because they have weak gear, and would make being better based on skill rather than gear at max level.

Why does the reward have to be better stats? There are many ways to reward players, the easiest of which is just looking awesome. Things like better looking armor or cool titles still allow players to feel rewarded for their work in a way that’s also easy to show off to others without creating a power imbalance or making those items necessary. Players aren’t whining about wanting everyone to be equal, they only want everyone to be equal in strength. Players should obviously still be able to visually distinguish themselves.

Yes to all the above.

@ Roven Leafsong Could you be reading too much into the use of normal. I am sure the OP does not mean it in an offensive way.

But I agree with you, casual and hardcore players should be able to enjoy the game in their own ways. I thought the horizontal gear concept would have helped in that.

Vertical progression to me is a sure way to segregate the community, between casual and hard core players.

Gating although bad, could be a good way to ensure players pay their dues to access super super hard content. If implemented properly in a forgiving manner (currently implementation is not the best). That is, if there is only super minor difference in gear stats (maybe only 1%) between exotic and ascended. Currently there is a HUGE difference.

It seems like this is the new direction for dungeons. The way the new dungeon “FotM” works, there is a big dis-incentive to invite lower dungeon level people into your/their groups.

1. As they will get worst loot.
2. Will not progress.
3. Need to teach you how the fractuals works.
4. Slows them down.

If you are not able to grind often, I strongly suggest finding a group of people to party with together at your own time and own target. Hard I know, but helps alot.

Except ascended gear makes GW2 feel like a grind. Random drops to get backpack is driving me crazy and setting FotM level to lowers person’s level is … (best left unsaid).

Will be hanging on for awhile longer. But will be splitting my time with all those single player games I have missed since GW2 came out.

If there is no changes away from vertical grind and gating within the next few months, I guess I will be leaving too. Always wanted to try the TSW story (minus the end game gear grind). Or maybe wait for Elder Scroll Online.

I thought the post by the dev was relevant and answered many questions that the community wondered.

It was always about the stats and the new Agony condition.

If it was not about stats, then people will not be making our voices heard. Gear Progression == stats increase. If it was only cosmetics, then do you think the thread would be so long. Man..

Oh, but you don’t have to be 26% more powerful!

Anyone that says this, does not really understand the majority of MMO players out there.

It is simple, if my gear is not the best, I need to get the best. If the best is beyond my grind level of comfort, I not take it well always having this craving. After awhile, most probably, I will leave the game if they cannot bear to grind the gear.

That is how many other MMOs get players to stay. But GW2 was always marketed to a different crowd of people. To the crowd of people that hates massive gear grind for stats. Thus we have quite low grind tolerance.

Also content gating kind of forces us to grind if we want to play.

Actually happy about this. It’s apparent some people are whining for the sake of whining and not actually paying attention to what they said.

Oh we paid attention to what they said else we will not be bringing out view here.

“Here’s what we believe: If someone wants to play for a thousand hours to get an item that is so rare that other players can’t realistically acquire it, that rare item should be differentiated by its visual appearance and rarity alone, not by being more powerful than everything else in the game. Otherwise, your MMO becomes all about grinding to get the best gear. We don’t make grindy games — we leave the grind to other MMOs.”
-Mike Obrien, President of Arenanet

Fun impacts loot collection. The rarest items in the game are not more powerful than other items, so you don’t need them to be the best. The rarest items have unique looks to help your character feel that sense of accomplishment, but it’s not required to play the game. We don’t need to make mandatory gear treadmills, we make all of it optional, so those who find it fun to chase this prestigious gear can do so, but those who don’t are just as powerful and get to have fun too.”
– Colin Johanson

That was before game release. So 3 months later, they get to do a 180. Many got this game because of anti-gear progressions policy and how Anet followed by that policy for 7.5 years in GW1.

I would have thought that their word would have been gold. But 3 months into the game, and we have a new tier of gear (does not matter if it is a 1 time thing). That is gear progression, invalidating in 1 sweep all our hard work for end game armor.

Any chance we could just not get this next patch?

It’s not being blown out of proportion. We bought this game because it had things we liked and did not have things we do not like. Lack of mudflation was a major selling point for many of us. Many of us old farts aren’t interested in playing a game that’s going to mess around with that sort of thing, because we have in the past and we understand the game design decisions that a gear treadmill forces, and we do not like those game design decisions.

I dislike the ‘gear treadmill’ as seen in other games as well. There is simply not enough information on the progression of this in GW2 to come to the conclusion that Ascended Gear is the beginning of the end.

At this point, Ascended gear is nothing more than an extra step on a staircase leading to our final destination, not the endless treadmill you make it out to be.

Exotic gear was the final destination. This is not a step towards it, this is another plateau above our previous final destination.

Legendaries were the final destination of only the few grinders. I was playing the game fine, with exotics till Anet decided I wanted a new tier for gear progression (even a single tier up is gear progression from current gear, as long as the current best gear is no longer the best in stats that is gear progression).

So how is this another step and not a new plateau, that they explicitly told us would not happen.

Let me quote what they used to say, since people will also ask for reference:
“Here’s what we believe: If someone wants to play for a thousand hours to get an item that is so rare that other players can’t realistically acquire it, that rare item should be differentiated by its visual appearance and rarity alone, not by being more powerful than everything else in the game. Yes, but it isn’t even a -huge- stat gap. Not to mention they are going to release it in stages and not all at once.

The complaints about it were -mostly- based around the fact that people -thought- it would result in a gear treadmill. That isn’t the case, as they have pointed out.

Now if you’re going to make that big of a deal over a tiny stat difference then -wow-, just -wow-.

They are creating a stat gap between exotic and legendary with ascend being in the middle…… at least thats how it reads in the announcement made by Chris.

That is the whole point. They are creating a stat where before there was not.

So that they can say that ascended are the stop gap for legendaries. They are creating their own need for a stop gap.

The only difference from legendaries and exotics before was aesthetics. Now after creating this new stats gap (in the first place), they are going to fill it up.

It makes no sense, other then to add Gear Progression and Power Creep.

But this is where you are assuming. You are assuming that they will create a new tier above legendary, if it is a true gear treadmill there is no end.

Creating gear that is lower stat’d then the “best” gear in the game doesn’t scream gear treadmill to me, in the sense of how wow runs things….

Again people are making assumptions and freaking out over it.

Had GW2 launched with exotic > ascend > Legendary, you would not be throwing a fit right now. And thats the truth of it.

Yes I am unhappy, because they went back on their promise made.

Here is one of their quote:
“Here’s what we believe: If someone wants to play for a thousand hours to get an item that is so rare that other players can’t realistically acquire it, that rare item should be differentiated by its visual appearance and rarity alone, not by being more powerful than everything else in the game. Otherwise, your MMO becomes all about grinding to get the best gear. We don’t make grindy games — we leave the grind to other MMOs.”
-Mike Obrien, President of Arenanet

Anet is clearly going back on their promise to all of us. I and many others came to GW2 because it was promised there was no gear grind or “brand new gear that is better then the current best” releases.

Exotic and Legendaries stats are ON par with each other pre-15th Nov.

If Ascended was introduced before GW2 came out. They would have been the best, stat wise, from the start of GW2.

It was not introduced when GW2 came out. Instead exotics were.

So clearly Anet broken their own promise. What is keeping them from doing it again in 6 months time when the grinder scream bloody murder again.

They have proven that their word is flexible.

I can’t see where they said they’ll have better stats.

They said they’ll add more update related items, that’s it.

Do the halloween exotics have better stats? Nope.

@above
At launch we will only have ring and back items, they’re going to add the rest of the slots as they go.

are you serious? did you not even read what Ascended items are? go read the release adn then come back. turn the lights on, and maybe have your browser turned to font 40. it’s in plain as day english, ascended stats are better than Exotic. no if, ands, or buts. They’ve even stated that it’s a new tier, and will make existing content easier for you! (meaning it’ll be a big increase on your character’s performance). Not to mention, it has alot of +magic find, which is the highest rated stat.

It’s the start of the never ending god kitten treadmill. they want to be like WoW for whatever reason despite having success with their original design.

And legendary stats are better then ascended which is also better then exotics? What is your point? Your already grinding for legendary… they are just adding a inbetween gear…. it won’t be the best in the game. Therefore the whole argument about a gear treadmill is totally debunked.

This nothing but this i dont see why people cant understand this

Currently there is no “progression” from exotic to legendary. They have the same stats. The only “reward” is aesthetic.

Now with Ascended gear, you have to grind for them, as their “rewards” are not only aesthetic but also have stat progression from exotics.

Legendary currently do not have better stats then exotics. With the new ascended upgrade, they will now have a stats increase.

So there was no stats grind, or no need to grind legendaries for stats. Now there is a need to grind ascended, that Anet introduced by themselves, as they are just better. The point is not by how many percent, the point is that they are better.

If you NEEDED ascended to even try, it’d be impossible because we don’t get a full set right away, and you get rings in the dungeon.

Sure. But let’s say RL forces a break from the game and you come back six months later to the next patch with the next dungeon, that does require the gear. Now to get back on the treadmill you’ve got to run the previous dungeon no one wants to run anymore because it won’t drop anything they want.

Welcome to gear treadmill hell, GW2 was meant to be free of this nonsense.

Stop using slippery slope arguments.
They’ve said they aren’t going to add more tiers.

They also said many things that they are now breaking with this update.
They ve already adding a tier with this update. That is already a treadmill for anyone that worked hard to obtain exotics.
Why should ve ever trust them again?

Don’t then.
Continue crying and rolling around on the floor about nothing.

The fact that we are here up in arms, seems to be contradicting your statement that we all are crying rolling around on the floor. How people come up with such statements to insult others, I do not know how they think.

It is more like we are letting Anet feel our displeasure. If it does not work. Well lets see. If GW2 becames WoW Clone version 1241231. Then I for one, will walk away.

Every increasing tier has better stats than the other (except legendary).
They probably thought to keep up the tradition.

Which is exactly the thing we protest against.

If they keep on introducing new tiers with better stats, we´re in the treadmill.

If they stop with this tier, then what was the point of increasing stats from exotics in the first place?

Half the current content is based around exotic gear. Just by introducing this Ascended gear, what is going to happen with the current content and dungeons.

You cannot tell me that majority will still grind exotics. In all seriousness, if I am a newly minted level 80 with 400 crafting and about 5G and some mats. I will not run dungeons. No, I will read the forums. Get me a good build. Craft me an exotic set. Get me a Ascended backpack with some Infusion. And then run FotM. Because there is where the good gear are.

Why bother with exotic any more when i know down the road, the whole tier will be obsolete, as it will be more worthwhile for all to just jump onto the Ascended grind.

The thing is, they said they will not add any more tiers before. Now they say that after this, there will be no more tiers. What is stopping them from, in 6 months time, from adding a new tier, saying there will be no more new tiers after this. Etc, etc.

This is a slippery slope.

WHOA calm down now. It’s not a power creep, it’s the insertion of a new tier to gap the ease of obtaining exotics and the difficulty of obtaining legendary stuff. If what they say is true than great, our tiers our now flushed out and we won’t have to see anymore.

I suspect they’ll make much use out of those infusion slots over time but whatever. Let this thread die now..pls?

There was never a stats gap between exotic and the then legendaries. Thus your arguement is void, as there will now be a stats gap between exotic and ascended/buffed legendaries.

So much nonsense, they are adding a tier that to be completed requeres MORE grind than exotics but LESS grind the legendarys, sry but i dont sea a treadmill here.

I agree with you 100% there, exotic set are really easy to obtain and legendary really hard, there’s not a problem in my mind in adding an intermediate tier that will appeal, I think to most people.

Cheap Exotics that make you look like crap are easy to gain.

I have been farming daily for my cool looking higher level exotics for the pass month. Those are not easy to gain. Ascended should just be better looking exotics, not more stats.

Legendaries did not have more stats, till now that they are releasing ascended. If they truly want Ascended to be the middle ground between legendary and exotic. Then it should have the same stats as currently exotic and legendary have but look better with some sound / animation effects.

Adding stats and gating is just lazy programming.

The issue seem to have made the news on a website:
http://www.examiner.com/article/near-gear-tier-upgrades-coming-to-guild-wars-2

Like the last line:
“In a game where endgame was supposed to extend “beyond the traditional model,” it seems the power creep, the gear grind, and single track PvE experience persist."

Can't please everyone..and end up pleasing no one

The no grind crowd was big enough to substance GW1… so what point are you making?

If GW2 starts to introduce vertical progressions, sure some people like the above poster will come back for a while. But what happens when they got their shiny new gear. Guess what, they will leave again.

By that time, all the no gear grind people would have also have left. So yes, I believe the OP is quite correct.

So, what do people think will come after Ascended items once all slots are released to keep the grind going?.

Descended gear with even more stats increase and an addition slot for a new condition called Hope.

If you do not have enough hope, your skills cooldown is doubled.

I love vertical progression. This game had no depth. They are moving in right direction.

If you love vertical progression, why are you playing GW2? Seriously it is the game that people that dislike vertical progression has flocked too.

I cannot help but feel, that it is people like the above that are forcing Anet to add power creep.
