Admit it, you forgot to loot Scarlet's chest

We’re talking about the giant world boss sized chest right, not some smaller chest that she drops or something as she stumbles away right?

Yep. It’s right in the center of the room.

I’ve missed other boss chests too because of various reasons (couldn’t find Toypocolypse chest after chasing Toxx all over the place first time, Marrionette chest was obscured by 100+ people emoting). What it comes down to is I should just be paying closer attention, but it would be nice if you could go back into that room before leaving the Breachmaker.

Stupid topic is stupid.

No, I did not ‘forget to loot’ anything.

I have my F key, I have my AoE loot key. I spam them repeatedly after a knight is downed. (before the last patch made beating them all but impossible) I walk around looking for a physical chest when the crowd has mostly dispersed. I have received a reward exactly once. That was Day 1, first fight after patch.

I’ve killed more than 20 Knights. I stopped counting, that number is much higher. I followed the many ‘solutions’ other players have posted regarding grouping, DPS, timing … all to no success.

This is not the only problem this patch has had. Way more can be said regarding the absurdly broken achievements.

Just because some were lucky (repeat LUCKY) enough to have success in avoiding these bugs, does not nullify the vast majority who’ve been shafted.

I’m not a 15 year old in my parents basement. I have RL with responsibilities. The absence of any reward, (loot or deserved achievement) makes the amount of time I’ve wasted attempting the goals in this patch the real crime.

Nice rant buddy but you totally missed the point of this thread.

You felt rushed, followed the wounded Scarlet towards the control room, saw the clock ticking and went through without looting the chest. I can’t be the only one.

The first time I just didn’t see it spawn behind me, and the second time I nearly forgot again. I understand this is all on me and I’m not freaking out asking for a refund or anything, but doesn’t it seem a bit counter-intuitive that the chest appears away from where Scarlet ends up and there’s no way to get back into that room after leaving?

Yep. I just need play and dodge more and eventually I’ll be able to faceroll other players as easily as they faceroll me. Through hard work come results. For instance, last night I managed my first 1v2 on my ele after over 8 months of daily WvW play. They were both eles.

Elementalist weakest class? Hell no

It is weak. It’s like a watered down soft drink. Not saying it isn’t fun to play. Ele has been my main since launch and I love the playstyle but it just doesn’t stack up well against other professions in some areas. In PVE no problem for experienced players, WvW/PVP good luck if you’re not a staff zerg bot. Staff is fun but running with the zerg gets old and can be downright hazardous if your zerg is small and/or your commanders are making bad decisions.

I prefer to skirmish or solo and for that I like s/d or preferably d/d. This argument is so old and I don’t want to write another book. Suffice to say that I don’t feel nearly as effective on my ele as I do on any other class I play (play them all except for ranger). Other classes straight up /laugh at us in WvW. It is just so unbelievably easy to maintain focus and burst an ele.

Cantrip skills are pretty good, but are on long cooldowns, highly telegraphed and are basically a cue for other classes to avoid you for a few seconds. Many don’t even do that because they know you are so weak they will continue the pressure even if it costs them some HP. I seem to continually rotate between a water/arcane build and an air/arcane build because one has more burst while the other has more defenses. Using either leaves me feeling weak in the other.

Am I the best player on the server? Hell no, but I certainly am no scrub either – closing in on 10k WvW kills, ranked general on my ele. It may only be my personal opinion but I do feel that ele is indeed weak. Like a soda left on ice for too long – could be so much more.

I’m mostly PVT in WvW. That combined with zerker ammy/rings gives me pretty good all round stats. Many people laugh that I still use orbs but that extra 12% crit is nice and I don’t have to drop 60 gold on runes either. I would have said go for celestial armor but this recent change is probably going to invalidate that. I can’t see how some people roam with zerker. I’ll melt myself if I make one mistake but I guess some people are that good. Maybe they’re bunker traits with zerker gear?

Gear is kinda messy but it gets me to more or less where i want in terms of power/crit/toughness. If anything I wish I had a little more healing/vit. Ele builds are tricky – find the sweet spot that works for you and go with it.

I love my hobo sacks! Not stoked on the idea of fanny packs. Really? Just allow for back slot items to override hobo sacks and most people will be appeased. Though this will make certain kits look weird. i.e.: elixer gun, flamethrower.

Additionally you could allow for custom kit appearances, but this is alot of customization for just one profession.

You were doing good until you spouted this bullkitten. Claiming that people who work and have a family should not be playing games pretty short sighted. People can easily burn out on work and family if they don’t balance their time right. Additionally I can think of worse ways to release stress than playing video games.

Elementalist Arcane Shield

in Profession Balance

Posted by: ghettogenius.9174

ghettogenius.9174

I really think this skill needs to be re-examined. Based on it’s long 75 second cd I am assuming it is to be considered one of the strongest arcane skills one can take. However, performance wise it leaves much to be desired imo.

My personal issue is the 3 block limit and how it is reached so soon it renders the skill quite weak. In anything other than a 1v1 this becomes severely lackluster – especially when compared against something like Endure Pain or various shield skills. In a medium to large scale combat encounter I cant even get off a channeled skill or run back to my frontline before the 3 block limit is hit and I start to take massive damage and/or cc. Meanwhile other classes just shrug off an entire zergs worth of damage for 1-5 seconds while using similarly slotted skills.

I’m sure someone will chime in and tell me just to stop using the skill – as others have already told me in game. Unfortunately this does not solve the problem of its ineffectiveness. Additionally the skill is rather attractive on some builds heavy on arcane traits and arcane lightning – or at least should be.

I can handle a reduction in shield time from 5 to 3 seconds or even a complete removal of the damage (I think both would be going too far) if we could only get a real invulnerability for the duration.

Mist Form used to do dmg?

ghettogenius.9174

This has been discussed at length, but my opinion is that any trait which is contingent upon being hit (crit no less) is counter productive. The regen over time in no way makes up for the damage taken during a crit.

Which leaves us with the main reason people took Soothing Wave before: coupled with cleansing water and slotting Sig of Water and Mist Form you had 2 extra on demand condition cleanses. It’s arguable that you may get more cleanses with the new trait (in pvp/wvw at least) … but oooh dat damage lol.

@ Jasher (post 2): In PvE, there is NEVER a range option. It does not exist unless the boss mechanics necessitate it, and the only boss I can think of that requires range is the final boss in Dredge fractal. You MUST stack bosses to benefit from your party’s boons, benefit from reflects, proc your own Earth VI trait, and benefit from group healing. Ranging off to the side while the rest of your party melee’s is selfish and ineffective, and should justifiably result in you being kicked ASAP.

What!? You would kick me from the party because I don’t automatically stack in red circles with the rest of the melee? So much wrong with this post. You obviously have your own way of doing things and that’s great, but please know that there is more than one way to play this game.

Should I introduce GW2 to my son?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

When GW2 was released I bought 2 copies … one for myself and one for my son. He was 9 at the time but had already taken an interest into PC games like Minecraft and Roblox so I felt it would be a good opportunity to enjoy something together. I felt the lack of trinity roles would be easier for him since he would not be under so much pressure from other players to perform specific duties like “healer” or “tank”.

It has taught him typing skills, math skills, hand eye coordination, how to work groups to achieve goals, how to manage his time (since we use a token rewards system which helps regulate how much screen time he can have, proper online etiquette, and much more. All this is huge considering he was diagnosed with autism at a very young age and has been working on his social skills ever since. I don’t attribute all his success to GW2 but it certainly has played a part.

Interestingly enough he has become quite the competent player. He mains a necro but has tried nearly all the professions, has completed Mad Kings Clock Tower and many other jumping puzzles, plays sPvP and WvW, organized and run dungeons, soloed most of his story quests and other LS content. He can get competitive at times but if he gets out line I just reel him in. I’d like to think his exposure here has had a profound impact on his interest in technology – he thinks computers are cool and envies his father that gets to spend all day working with them (developer). The other day I came home and found him trying to brute force hack my router so he could add his IP in order to run his own Minecraft server lol. He’s a chip off the old block.

Ultimately OP you should know your child best in terms of their capabilities, but I would say GW2 is among the safest and kid-friendliest games out there.

Don’t like the idea of this change at all. That’s a 50% reduction in effectiveness – would rather it just cost an extra initiative. This just makes bountiful theft more attractive anyways, in addition to making people spam LS more.

In all honesty this probably means I’ll be moving towards a main hand dagger/backstab/HS build now. It’s not like I was some invincible Artemis Entreri wannabe running S/D. I always felt I had to work harder than other builds to be effective and I enjoyed that challenge because I liked the feeling of a sword in my hand, but I think I’ve had enough of that line of thinking after maining an ele as well for a year now.

Just out of curiosity – would you all rather run into a D/x stealth build or a S/D build in wvw?

I have no interest in seeing other people’s builds or equipment, and I have no interest in them seeing mine so they can go “EWWW UR RUNNING THOSE ITEMS… KICK

Yet, you have previously posted details of your thief for all to see in these very forums. This has nothing to do with any in game inspect component – this is all outside of the actual game client.

Also, realize this is not just about exposing a characters gear but allowing for the interaction of that game data through a different interface. This could easily be extended the TP as well as character data. I could’ve sworn there was great excitement in the past around the idea of downloadable apps or web pages which could would let players take part in GW2 without having to load the game client on a different device.

Could you not see the benefit of being able to purchase some items and refit your character over your lunch break instead of wasting valuable time once you get home? Or how about leveling some crafting while you’re on the bus to and from work? I’m only talking about adding more tools for players to enjoy the game they love.

It doesn’t make sense to start developing something where it is debatable if it is actually a real benefit to have.

What is debatable is the intentions of such a tool.

I am looking at this as clever way to expose game data to the internet without the use of the client. What could this possibly be used for? Sharing builds if you are a theory crafter, allowing people to follow your characters more closely if you stream or play competitively, gain realtime access to your own builds for reference, boosting your ego after crafting that legendary, etc.

Now if you are looking at this as a method to restrict other players from your groups based on their gear then that is also your prerogative. However I am not advocating that such behavior be the main purpose of this feature.

Only up to a point. People can refuse to team with you unless you open your profile to them. In a game which wants to encourage player interaction instead of segregation that would not be a good tool to have.

In other games perhaps but in GW2? I have never once been asked to link my gear for a dungeon run. If I were to be kicked from the group for some trifling reason as not having BiS gear or not having memorized the boss encounter I would actually be a bit grateful as these are not the types of players I wish to spend time with. So I guess it would serve both our needs in this case.

The argument that players with better gear are carrying those with lesser gear is highly debatable and probably best left for another thread. I am more interested in discussing an online tool for integrating with game data – namely gear.

You also make another gross over-assertion in claiming that those with private profiles are hiding lower tier gear and stats. There is absolutely no evidence to support this claim. In fact, the default setting should probably be private. So those who never interact with the system can remain anonymous, and those who wish to take part can opt in.

ghettogenius.9174

I’m resurrecting this thread in hopes new information has possibly come to light over time – maybe even get a dev response? I build these sort of things for a living so from my perspective it’s not too hard to visualize this as a reality. It’s also become a more common component to contemporary games these days.

Honestly I think the previous posts above against this concept were perhaps a bit premature and unfounded. It’s not hard to add a flag to keep your profile private if that’s how you want to roll. Personally I don’t care if I ever get to inspect someone else’s gear/build. I’m only interested in this information for my own personal growth. I can’t even effectively lay out builds online because I don’t remember each and every specific piece of equipment I have slotted and the stats they amount to. Plus there are many egomaniacs that would want their build published if only so they could brag. A feature such as this would satisfy both types of players.

As for being cast out of groups based on gear. I think by now most people with half a brain recognize you can get by with basic greens if you wanted too. Only CoF zerg tools boot other players based on gear and they will continue to do so weather we have this feature or not. Time to spur that web team into action Anet!

S/D is probably best utilized lately with a fresh air build like:
0/30/0/10/30 or 0/30/0/30/10 so you can get those lightning strikes off quickly on attunement swap. With the arcana build especially you can attunement dance easily and provide excellent PvE dps. The added range is good too for additional safety – you should be able to tie down champs solo with dodges and cc while slowly dpsing them down.

A 30/0/0/30/10 signet build with persisting flames/auras is pretty fun for dungeons too. I used to run this before switching to fresh air. Oddly enough though I just yesterday hung up the scepter for D/D in PvE, WvW and tPvP – just wanted something different.

This skill gets a lot of hate due to the past damage decrease but I still use it a lot on my S/D build to slow down runners. Hate to say it but crippled AND poison sounds like too much. Not many skills apply multiple conditions. Just fix the cripple duration and you’ll see this become much more useful.

1200 range is not happening as it would be greater than the shortbow range. On a side note I think they should add a grandmaster trait that increases shortbow range to 1200.

Not sure how this ascended crafting is all going to play out but I dont really mind crafting another 100 levels for some better gear here and there. What bothers me is that legendaries are getting a little boost making them more appealing, both in terms of stats and flexibility yet we still only have 1 legendary skin per weapon (aside from GS of course). Some of those skins just plain suck – many exotic mystic forge recipes seem much cooler though they lack some additional combat and stationary effects. The thought of crafting a legendary such as incinerator only to transmute it to say tear of grenth makes me cry inside a little bit. I really wish there were more legendary options.

Also I like to have a shortbow handy and I don’t really have all the weapons and sigils I want in wvw. In pvp I do use the double S/D with energy sigils though – its pretty mean and slippery.

ghettogenius.9174

What does my Sig have to do with that?
Just curious. My playtime on Ele should be around 500 hours.

You have a 900 unit immobilize and high swiftness uptime. You can kite his conditionburst and first fearchain by rtl-ing and cleansing after or using armor of earth after his corrupt boon and heal up with aether renewal cleansing everything. Most heavy burst will be on CD for 25-45 seconds now and you can harass. He has less sustain so you can rinse and repeat bit by bit. He will not fill up his hp-bar. You need to play a necro defensively with quick and safe bursts. You will outlast him. This is no 10 second fight if you want to win it.

It is about the hardest fight an elementalist can get and win.
There are other builds that you cannot kill e.g. stun perplexity warrior. But neither should they kill you.

I was assuming any player that has gathered 5 legendaries would also have acquired some skill along the way, unless of course they bought them off the TP. You obviously seem to know what you’re doing and that just reinforces my point – very skilled players can make ele effective. Average players cannot.

Without metrics I think it is safe to say most players are average (if not below), therefore they have an even harder time being effective as an ele. This has lead to a sizable portion of the community to agree that ele is underperforming. Great players will naturally succeed with any class they choose, so they may overlook shortcomings that would stop less skilled players in their tracks.

No offense Zumy, but judging by your sig I’m guessing it’s fair to say you’re an expert in regards to ele. That said, do you really expect every other player to be on the same level as you in regards to their capabilities? If you are so good and your opinion is it’s “fine”, then by extension anyone less skilled than you is going to find the class “less than fine”.

And just how are you kiting necros that have greater range with d/d? LoS isnt always an alternative. Plus condi removal is always an issue for me – even with cleansing fire. Necros, mesmers and thieves are worst for me due to condi and targeting issues.

I’ve played ele since beta, but only competitive pvp/wvw for the last 3-4 months or so and I’ve always found it excruciating. Tried many builds, weapon sets, traits, skills, etc. I’ve found it a very unforgiving class and refuse to believe I suck this bad at it – especially when I’ve found much more success in other classes/games. So if the main problem isn’t between the keyboard and the chair I start looking elsewhere for the issue.

I’m curious about your build tho, I use PTV armor with zerk jewelry (so similar stats) but have very minimal healing power when not traited into water.

They get me killed every time. Liadri is supposed to be all about darkness (watch them make the screen turn black now lol).

My only real gripe is the farmability of the gauntlet. They should have just had the tiers return 2/5/10 gold for beating them and eliminated the mild inflation run that is occurring now.

I’m just not one of those players that’s going to farm endlessly for hours on end (this is evidence of an addiction by the way) for hundreds of gold. I’ve made maybe 15 gold since the event started and that’s mostly just from playing the game. Unfortunately players like myself suffer in terms of the economy as a result of events like this. I’ve seen the prices of some particular weapons/sigils/runes I’ve been saving for go up steadily since it was released.

Anet you really should have left this alone. The recent change only hurts the less skilled players which havent run it already. Parts 3-4 were already tricky enough solo or in group. Difficulty has been increased exponentially, with vets spawning near the plunderers and chasing you behind the rocks.

I know they are working on this but just wanted to voice my support as well. The other day I ended up in a match versus 3 mesmers and 2 necros. The 2 necros didnt leave each others side so every time I came across them it was like 10 vs 1. Try acquiring a target in that mess.

I like it too. Haven’t won yet. Need to play it more. There should be a title (Survivor) associated with this one IMO.

Haven’t heard many eles chime in here. But for the record, I got this done on my S/D aura support elementalist (30-0-0-30-10) using lightning hammer, signet of earth, and tornado to delay the turn ins. Also, you can burn/bleed them as they run away and by the time they get back you can rotate through your cc skills and then kill them easily as they are in the field – usually wont spawn an additional plunderer.

Dungeons should not close when...

Haha. Yeah. But what is not funny is that we can all finish that statement. Group leadership should be passed to a member still in the instance when the current leader leaves the dungeon or group.

I’ve mentioned this before, and it has to be tied to the story/explorer dungeon types and variables therein. My guess is when the leader (whose character model is keyed in on) of a dungeon leaves instance, the engine loses the reference for that model in the cutscenes and therefore must close the instance. Just a guess though.
