Movement to slow in this game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

The world would seem much smaller if movement speed were increased. In as much, the current speed acts as a time gate to content throughout the world.

This was also carefully balanced in terms of combat- effective weapon/skill ranges, swiftness, etc. If the speed were increased (especially combat speed), players would immediately have greater survivability and escapism, thus likely necessitating an increase in either weapon damage or range.

I feel utterly Ripped Off.

Got maybe 60 gold between 2 toons right now and been playing since launch. Done 1 run of CoF, boring as hell. I don’t seem to have the same sense of urgency most people have here, but still I can’t afford kitten. Just bought my first abyss dye a few weeks ago and that hurt! I don’t generally sell mats, because get this … I want to craft. Only got a few crafts maxed tho, so I end up paying out the nose for things like food or armor … if I want the good stuff.

My fault really for being casual I guess. 2-3 hours a day is not enough time to generate any sort of wealth if you’re not rushing or grinding. It’s cool tho, playing the game my way is more fun … for me at least. Still want some kittening gold tho.

Who uses Glyph of Renewal anyway?

I love that reaction. It’s so shortsighted.

ANet : nobody uses this skill. I guess they are right, it is too weak. Let’s buff it.
Random User : Noooo ANet, why you buff that skill nobody uses! It’s crap anyway which is why nobody uses it and so you obviously shouldn’t change it ever.

Lol. Don’t get me wrong. Obviously I’m being a bit cynical here. I’m sure it has its uses for some builds. Oh by the way it’s also bugged if I recall – not giving full health back after revival in some cases.

So far its not to bad with counter conditions, although the signet of water is only every 10 seconds, but I do try to keep water attunement free, so when I get a few conditions I swap to that and it cleanses a bit. I will know more when I get into WvW (taken it in there but I think it was a quiet time for it). I am still tuning it a bit, and changing stuff around etc.

Well PvE conditions are nothing compared to the conditionfest that is WvW. My first Zerg Dive I knew that Signet of Restoration was just not going to cut it because you just get literally slammed with conditions. Sure a decent number end up falling off due to AOE removal from others but I found without going for Ether Renewal it just wasn’t going to work.

Totally agree here. Signet builds are hit hard by conditions, and if you dont run with Cleansing Fire or Ether Renewal you’re in for a world of hurt – but then this hurts the whole synergy derived from additional signet bonuses in some builds.

Hell even in PvE it can cause problems. Got downed several times last night in dungeon explorer runs due to running out of condi removal. Any form of PvP is much worse.

Sadly Signet of Water doesn’t really appeal to me in its current state. They should increase the damage a bit and give it a passive healing bonus like the others. That might make it more worthwhile.

I’ve used Bowls of Saffron-scented Poultry Soup on my thief for additional condi removal to great effect. Not so much an option in sPvP though. Perhaps Bowls of Lemongrass Poultry Soup with Runes of Hoelbrak are also an option (-60% condition duration).

Seems like every other class got stronger while we basically stayed the same. Who uses Glyph of Renewal anyway? There are tons of ele bugs that we’ve been waiting months to get fixed. Two that I am most interested in:

1) Signet Mastery not reducing Signet of Restoration cooldown
2) Inscription not working with the Glyph of Elementals elite skill

May seem like minor things but they seriously detract from those traits for some builds. There’s about 2 dozen more bugs I don’t want to even mention. I know I suck at PvP, but is ele really in such a sweet spot after all the recent nerfs? Every other class looks more appealing to me right now, especially for any sort of PvP – which I was just starting to really get into.

Scepter build?

ghettogenius.9174

Neko and Mamartia have shown some awesome ele builds, I’ve learned much from reading those. Here’s another twist on a heavy signet build with S/D that throws auras out via the Powerful Aura trait from water – I run this in PvE and dungeons currently:

http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=Vl;4B2-U0C5gNkY0;9;4T;0T958A;441B4;04N;1J;0PetTvtdbn-knF6;1Fb;0L-Q0VXP2V3a43k-Pc3a;5NV15NV1B;9;9;9;9;0k0;4A-6j

I disagree that without Zephys Boon auras are wasted. Switfness has to be the most common boon out there, plus this build still passes it out through attunement swap to air. I do wish it could squeeze in protection from Elemental Shielding but again it has access through attunement swap into earth. This is a very fun build to run and supplement any group with might/fury stacking, plus the auras are icing on the cake. Works well with D/D or even focus too as you get additional auras to share.

So many different ways to run an ele, I find myself changing builds every few weeks or so.

What legion was Gnashblade a part of when he was part of a warband? If he was ever part of a warband to begin with. This should tell you alot about his character. Do we really want a lowly gladium on the ships council now? What sort of message would that send to the rest of Tyria?

(I could go either way on these candidates tbh, but Kiel is a more logical choice considering how much interaction characters have had with her in the story so far. Gnashblade is just the rich guy that takes 2% and is stingy with the BL keys. I am very intrigued by the Abbadon fractal concept tho – and I’m just getting into fractals. However, from a role-play perspective neither of my characters would vote for him, so it may come down to a metagame decision.)

The difficulty of this dungeon is perfect for the right group.

That is what you meant to say. This is a matter of perspective, and perhaps luck in group setup if you pug. I have no issues with the difficulty in general. I rather enjoyed the challenge. However, after 5 attempts, 15 hours, various group compositions and no completion – I just can’t agree that it is perfect. Perfect for kitten ing many players off maybe. There is a flaw somewhere – and you can’t just completely blame it on the players. Some people fail to adapt that’s for sure. The learning curve for failure seems to be a bit steep IMO.

I know what I’m doing – dragging corpses past Frizz, rezzing the whole team vs Mai. I got my mini and FTL, but somehow can’t find a group to stay alive during the barrage for a completion? Groups got worse as the event went on too from my point of view.

Bad luck? L2P? Join a guild lol. I’ve heard it all. Ironic thing is before this week I could give a kitten about the achievement points but now that they are inextricably attached to various rewards, well that’s another story now isn’t it?

If you want more surviability then you should probably spec out of deadly arts for more shadow arts or acro. Better yet drop critical strikes as well. Here is what i run for PvE since Sky Pirates update:

http://www.gw2build.com/builds/teryn-delmar-supportive-pve-support-10781.html

Before the update I would run this (which I also use in PvP):

http://www.gw2build.com/builds/teryn-delmar-offensive-offensive-pvp-pve-wvw-10780.html

Reason I changed was to offer more support to my group mates. I had little trouble staying alive before, but with the extra heals/endurance and vigor its no prob at all. That saffron chicken soup is pretty key tho for condition removal – either that or use shadowstep in place of black powder.

I wonder how the final boss encounter would play out if the barrages were triggered on a timer instead of Mai’s health. Say 5/10/15 mins with barrages of 20/40/60 seconds? This way the barrages are still there (and they get progressively harder) but it’s now more of a technical dps race since you still need to deactivate her shields. Maybe have her shields slowly regen so you cant just stack on her once they’re gone.

I agree with this completely. AR is awesome in terms of environment, feel and for the most part difficulty. I haven’t had this much fun in a dungeon since release and I have still yet to complete. I’ve spent 10 hours over 4 attempts – and I am always the last one standing after the third barrage – this is on my S/D thief. Several times I even saved wipes by finishing off Frizz myself – and these players don’t exactly suck, they just haven’t nailed down the mechanics yet. Alright some are unwilling to listen and adapt or change their builds but not most of them.

I pug 100% of the time because I really don’t want a second job or have to deal with guild drama, but at this point I’m pretty much open to the idea of running with some sort of static crew so long as they are not pretentious kittenholes like the OP here. Notice how I didn’t call for a nerf.

Am I the only one experiencing sporadic behavior with this weapon skill? From time to time (actually quite often now), my character will not jump back after firing the shot. I will still get the evasion but I will be right there face to face with my enemy and therefore forced to dodge. It is getting to be quite annoying.

Additionally, I could swear sometimes it registers the click more than once and I will fire off two shots instead of one therefore expending twice the initiative and often putting myself out of range with the shortbow.

I would have thought this would be a known issue as it happens so frequently for me, but a search returned no results. If not then I will certainly submit a bug report this evening when I get home.

Getting Frustrated & Disappointed With GW2

Man MMO players are never kitten happy I swear. Two things you can count on in this world:

1) Politicians will lie to secure office
2) MMO players will kitten and moan no matter what

It’s all about your expectations, they are probably a bit too high. Just relax a bit, try to focus more on the journey and less on the destination. Just my personal advice.

I’ve never stepped foot in FOTM and I don’t feel like I’m missing anything. There are so many aspects of this game to enjoy, you have so many options. If you really want that shiny – then prepare to put in some work.

More updates than MMOs with Subs?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ghettogenius.9174

ghettogenius.9174

The sub vs F2P argument is not an easy one to handle. Reason being is no two sub games or F2P games are exactly alike. They each have slightly different currency models or content mechanics which make the argument sway in different directions.

For instance SWTOR , when it went F2P basic users lost all kinds of kitten like additional character slots, full crafting capabilities, etc. I left right before that update, but I went back and played it afterwards and was severely put off by the aspects of the game that were missing for me. Sure I could unlock them over time, but for a casual player like myself I would just rather pony up $12 a month to have full access to the features. Still cheaper than a night out at a bar.

DDO another example. Content updates came in modules which needed to be purchased with TP. Everything else available in the store was just fluff (aside from perhaps reincarnations and some classes), but you had to buy or unlock those content areas or you wouldnt be able to quest with friends and such. For me it was just easier to be a premium player and have full access plus some TP to spend each month – even if I took days or weeks off at a time.

Now GW2 is full blown F2P (aside from the client purchase), complete with premium boxes only unlockable through store purchased keys (this is apparently the favored marketing approach these days). I think Anet did this well, as I don’t feel like I’m missing out on much by not spending a ton of cash each month. I’ve bought some gems for things like transmutation crystals or to convert into some gold for mats, but otherwise I don’t feel like there are entire sections of the game that are closed off to me because I don’t pay up consistently somehow. That would certainly turn me off.

The fact that GW2 has frequent small updates seems to be good enough for my casual playstyle. More aggressive players might feel it is not enough, but that is an issue with GW2 not the F2P model in general.

ghettogenius.9174

I’d love to see you, or any other likeminded individual, offer an acceptable, reasonable alternative revenue stream for ANet to substitute for removing the BL chests.

I’ve yet to see a single such proposition backed up with any type of financial analysis. Would love to see such a post. (And don’t just come back with "make the items direct purchases. Gotta offer more than that… A little thought, and basic math invalidates that kind of thought. At the very least you’d have to show some kind of pricing methodology for it to be a viable consideration).

Honestly, I cant. But of course it’s not my job to dream up revenue streams for game companies. I am merely a consumer, and as consumer I think I prefer to pay a straight up monthly fee and be exposed to an environment where all players can reach the same goals without mass amounts of RNG and blind luck. I would rather rely on time and effort to get me through to those goals.

Unfortunately the F2P model has taken over the industry and is here to stay. Companies clearly are making more money this way as opposed to being subscription based. Consumers think they are getting a deal, but in the long term they probably spend more on the RNG items than they would with a flat fee. Sure, super casual players don’t need to drop a dime, but most of them won’t be buying up RNG items from the store either. I’m sure there are some exceptions.

As an informed consumer, I refuse to buy items in game for a “chance” to get something – unless it is something absolutely amazing and I REALLY REALLY want it. Haven’t come across that yet.

Also, I wouldn’t pay more than what a sub would cost for that month, that would just be silly. Especially considering the RNG game comes around each month. No, I am the sort of player which you need to collect the money up front, and if the “free” version doesn’t provide enough or locks me out of too much then I’ll just find another form of entertainment.

I personally did not enjoy the crab toss. Tried it for an hour in an attempt to get the achievements for the event, but eventually got frustrated and just logged. There was some lag but not a lot. Honestly I was just more disappointed in the fact its basically a PvP free for all, with karkas stomping you. I guess I would’ve had more fun if I was winning? I was expecting some sort of crab horseshoe/shuffleboard strategy game.

Still, I think you’re going to see more angry people popping up here due to the fact there is an achievement attached to actually winning the game. My guess is a lot of players will be unable to accomplish this. Perhaps the achievement could be set around just playing a certain number of games, or holding onto the grab for x seconds.

I frequently hit the weapon swap key on my thief all the time by accident (right next to auto attack – great spot for it lol). Often this locks me out of swapping back to my preferred set and pretty much means I kitten myself for a few precious seconds. Very self destructive in pvp. Maybe its my fat fingers, but I wouldnt mind if the cooldown was eliminated. They will need to apply cooldowns or restrictions to on weapon swap abilities or this will be widely abused.

Casual is not 1-2 hours a day

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ghettogenius.9174

ghettogenius.9174

playing one hour a day sounds pretty casual to me. You go back home, spend some time with your wife and kids, think “oh I have an hour free, maybe I’ll log in on guild wars and do a few quick pvp matches”. One pvp match is about 20 minutes. IF you just log in to do 2 or 3 of them from time to time you’re playing casually. One CoF run is 6 minutes. If a person logs in and thinks “hey, I’ll run one path of CoF with my friends and maybe I’ll chat a bit” and spends 10 minutes in game every day you can hardly call that not casual. The same with dailies, it will take you about 20 minutes to do. If you log in to do that daily I don’t see nothing not casual about it. The only problem is when you start thinking that you HAVE to log in. You don’t.

Like I said before the term is subjective and it seems like you understand that based on the opinion you shared. The issue is when people try to say this game isn’t for casual players or saying that they don’t pursue goals in the game.

In MY Opinion this game is great for the casual player as well as the more dedicated player. I label myself casual. I have goals although one day they might be to log in for 10 minutes and craft then log out. I don’t think it is appropriate to for other people to start deciding who the game is for, what their goals should be, and how intensely they should pursue those goals.

Statments like this seem elitest to me:

2. True casual players (and even some more hardcore) will never reach their in game goals of gear/achievements – even after years of playing (without using gems or getting lucky drops).
3. Perhaps it is time we stop pretending that this game is for casuals.

Well, never been alluded to as an elitist before. I would expect an elitist to just power through and grind, sell, and exploit their way to their goal and then complain about how easy it is and how much harder it should be made for consecutive people. It’s cool though. You wouldn’t be the first person to misunderstand me. I don’t play nearly enough, nor do I pretend to be better than anyone else. I’m quite average in this game actually, though with practice I can hang in there competitively with better players in PvP and WvW – sometimes. I like a good challenge. It makes reaching the goal that much more filling. It just seems GW2 end gear game goals are too far out of reach for the average player, and that is beginning to bother me.

Obviously we can’t all agree on the terminology surrounding hardcore vs casual. I hate the labeling myself too. I only brought up the term and made this thread to express my dissatisfaction with the illusion that someone who plays the game like do will ever reach certain end game goals like a crafted mystic forge exotic – not even a legendary mind you. At my current rate it will take 6 years to gather just the lodestones. Perhaps I am exaggerating and I could do it in 3 or maybe even 2 if I dumped all my mats on the TP and thus forsake crafting altogether. I just think this is far too long and by far exceeds any time that was necessary for me to gain end game gear in past MMOs with my casual approach.

Yes my statement above (#3) could be easily misconstrued. There are certainly lots of things for casual (there’s that kitten word again lol) players to accomplish here in GW2. So long as it’s not a cool exotic or legendary.

Seriously, if this thread has done nothing else it has proven to me that if I want Jormags Breath I’ll need to just buy more gems, convert them to gold, buy the rest of the mats, and craft the kitten thing. There is simply no other alternative for a player like me without drastically changing my playstyle and time spent in game.

I’m not really sure how this gets to “GW2 isn’t for casual players”. Sure, they’re not going to be getting legendaries, but why are we presuming that’s what they’re playing GW2 for?

I am not presuming that casual players are playing GW2 for the legendaries or even exotics – clearly there are other motivational factors. But dont you think a casual player might eventually reach a plateau where they would be interested in acquiring one? Is it presumptuous to assume they might set that goal sooner rather than later?

So if I go home every night and watch TV, I’m a hard core TV person?

Casual has less to do with hours played and more to do with how you play the game. Plenty of people in my guild play all the time, but play casually. They don’t take it too seriously. That’s really what casual means. They dont’ have goals. They bum around. They chat. They don’t get anything done and they don’t really care…because they’re casual.

I don’t think hours played has anything to do with it.

I disagree that casual players can’t have goals. Everyone has goals. They just don’t pursue them as vehemently as others.

Casual is not 1-2 hours a day

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ghettogenius.9174

I keep seeing and hearing this ideology thrown around, and I used to accept it as well. However, after much careful introspection and observations I have come to the conclusion that this is not true.

Casual is much less that 1-2 hours a day. I feel this way because I used to think I was casual and I play 1-2 hours a day. When you think about it, that’s more time than some working folks spend with their families, more time than some students spend at their studies, and more time than many people spend exercising and trying to stay healthy.

The casual player thinks, “Maybe I will have some time tonight to get on and play a few pvp matches or explore that area of Sparkfly Fens that I never saw.”

Not, “I need to get out of work soon so I can get home and farm CoF1 and get my daily done before 8pm.”

I would even go so far as to say that logging on every day is not quite casual. That is pretty strict and rigid if you ask me. Aside from my job and family, I don’t have any obligations or activities which necessitate my time and attention on a daily basis.

So where am I going with all of this? I am just trying to highlight this misconception of what a “casual” player is and what their limitations are in GW2. As it has been pointed out, Anet has made many concessions to and for casual players with limited time to progress and have fun, and that’s great! But if you are casual by the definition I have proposed, then you can throw out any ideas of you having a legendary, or BiS armor, or even many exotics in less than a year or two – possibly even longer. Remember, I have already shown that I am not a casual player based on my frequency – I seem to put in even more hours, yet still can’t reach my goals. What classification would you apply to someone that is less than hardcore and more than casual?

As an example, in 8 months I have exactly, 6 corrupted lodestones (and that is from parking a character in Frostgorge and farming when I can). Need 50 for Jormags Breath – an exotic. You can do the math. I understand Anets approach in making things difficult to acquire, thus attempting to keep players around longer. However, they may have overlooked the fact that players will leave eventually – whether or not they have met their in game goals. It is just that some players will leave happy and satisfied, while others will not. This is likely by design. But does it have to be this way?

So basically in a nutshell I am saying:

1. That the “casual” term is misused – at least in GW2.
2. True casual players (and even some more hardcore) will never reach their in game goals of gear/achievements – even after years of playing (without using gems or getting lucky drops).
3. Perhaps it is time we stop pretending that this game is for casuals.

Sorry for the rant. I feel better now.

Haven’t seen a key drop in months. One from the monthly would be good. Is there even anything worth getting in those?

Not enough abilities? New player concern

Sometimes less is more. As many have said, alot of abilities in other ability heavy MMOs are just filler – things to press when your main attacks are on cool down. Plus, with every additional ability you add, balancing becomes even more difficult.

Kitten, I had to buy a Razer Naga just to be able to easily access all of my skills in SWTOR. I am glad games are leaving that phase behind personally. It is easier to take breaks and come back at a decent level of competency too. I don’t want to feel like pilot who needs to re-certify on some aircraft he hasn’t flown in 20 years.

I was having fun, right up until the leader left and we all got booted. After like 5 wipes someone left to go get their guardian lol. Oops, it was the leader. Now I dont mind his mistake, but that whole mechanic is stupid and a discussion for another thread.

Dungeon was pretty cool though, great layout and open spaces. That first boss area with all the AoE was just stupid though. Was that supposed to be fun? Just got tossed like a ragdoll from fire AoE – not sure how we survived that part. I honestly thought we all died and the computer just rezzed us because it felt sorry for us.

2 Boss fight was frustrating though. I felt forced into SB with my thief instead of S/D that I’m much more effective with. More overlapping AoE. Even when it looked like I avoided some I got tossed to the ground. Seems like if you jump in the wrong direction youll take damage multiple times :/ I guess I just suck at teh gamez right? L2P.

So yeah it was a rough night. Hoping tonight I have a better experience.

Dungeon Leader leaves... All get kicked...

This kitten is completely unacceptable. Not only can it degrade into a form of griefing, but it just delivers a terrible experience for the entire group. The only reason this behavior is still in the game is because they coded themselves into this position and now cannot fix it easily. I’m sure it has to do with their stupid story/explorable dungeon types.

I don’t see how you could ever justify just ending the instance and kicking everybody out with no warning.

Spectate mode is awesome

Was fooling around yesterday with it and I must say its pretty cool. Much needed too. I was having as much following people around watching their playstyles as I was stealing boons yesterday lol. It seriously gave me a much needed new perspective on the other classes which has certainly raised my level of performance. Love this change. Thx.

However, I didnt see any easy way to enter the match you are currently watching from spectator mode. Did I miss it or do you just have to return to the Mists?

I didnt think my initiative was regening so fast that I would have a full 6% back so soon. However it does seem to be more of a ding to TS than a bonus to Slice or Slash. Thx.
