Sound Updates

Is it possible to implement a set of power options inside F11 to choose your own granularity on weapon sounds and possibly other effects? Some of these need not stay as sounds — quite a few people find a giant Charr wearing giant wings equally annoying.

For me personally, would be nice if I could limit the sounds of Dreamer, Quip, and Bolt (sometimes excessive lightning; if it’s the same as ele air dagger, limit that too). If there’d be an option to manually shrink all Charr, that’d be fun too.

@nagr — Well, I was on a phone in my last posts so was trying not to go crazy with quotes. But when you told the anecdote of starting your own group with 100+ LI req when even you didnt have it, with kind of a carefree tone… I wasn’t even sure if I wanted to read the rest. And yeah, LI is not always the best indicator since someone could’ve been carried the whole time and not actually have individual skill.

For me, priorities would be
gear+food > knowing class > knowing boss > boss kills/LI

You could skirt the system and look for shortcuts, and sure that might even work, but it’s really not good advice in the long term. Not good if you’re trying to establish more permanent connections and get into static groups.

I don’t really understand the post. I just have one infinite omnipotion in shared inventory slot…whichever char I’m on can just double-click it. Why would you only want one of the buffs!?

Professions like Warrior or Thief have traits that increase their DPS if endurance is not full. They should not use the Mist Mobility Potion.

Ok, good point; I never really got into warrior. I suppose if you’re trying to 40 farm or T4 speedrun, you’re trying to eke out every little bit of DPS.
It’s still a bit surprising to me that you wouldn’t enjoy the movement speed or the extra half dodge or so. I remember when I was still making the pots and generally switched over to fractal necro main, the infinite mobility was the first one I made, and I never looked back. I still advise aspiring fractal necros to make the mobility pot first, since, after all, a fast necro is pretty scary ;P
Looks like you’re in a different situation with a specialized dungeon-like comp, so perhaps this new feature could help you. (Random note to self: fully complete Nightmare CM on non-necro class ;P)

Good stories nagr, but I have to agree with Coconut here — you’re derailing solid advice and basically saying, “hey, don’t do any homework at all and just find a way to ping 100 insights and it’ll be fine”.
The only good piece what you said is to be on voice chat, typically TS though some are preferring the more staticky (even with the app) Discord. It’s great that you’re taking the initiative and trying to lead groups, and hopefully people actually experienced chimed in to prevent failure… but to address the lying part of your advice — truth is a good commander will be watching different parts of the team, and will know right away if you’re full of BS. You’ll simply be dishonorably discharged if join reqs were set and you blatantly lied about your qualifications. If it’s not a training run there’s a reason for the advertisement being the way it is — after all, sometimes people are in the mood for teaching, and sometimes they just want to get it done.
I personally use the steps I’ve posted, as do dozens of friends and acquaintances I’ve spoken to. It’s solid advice not based on lies.

Currently I think I actually made <Tab> set to dodge for some jump in SAB, but forgot about it cause i never press it lol. If this bind was available I would set Tab=“dodge jump”.

C X Z are taken for my utilities, and V is my elite. Similarly, Q=skill5, E=use, R T F G are F1-F4, and 5=F5. I do have two extra mouse buttons, which I use for heal and Next Enemy. Shift is my special action key :S

I’m basically out of keys near my left hand… oh wait, did I even bind middle mouse!? Will check when I get back

Fractal Alt choice?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Necro can carry pretty hard; I’ll second this. Fractal Necro would be Scepter/dagger and x/warhorn. Considering you’ve not yet done T4s this would def. be my choice. Things start hitting harder, more enemy life, social awkwardness instability becomes scarier, and any fractal with Toxic Trails might make you wince if you chose a melee class. With Blood Magic in the meta, your spins pull and heal downed allies. Viper’s set with epi is quite fun.
I second what Zania said about the other classes. Thief staff does have some survivability with healing on crit, and I’ve definitely played it on every fractal before without too many issues (when Mai Trin was still 100), but these days you’d need to be fairly good to bring it to a Toxic Trails fight ;P Still doable, ofc. I think Ele works best if someone else initially takes the aggro, but yeah, zerker is meta, heh. High damage, easy to die, but c’est la vie.

1. Pick a class. Your best bet is one of the commonly used classes that are seen in 5-5 mirror setups: [Ranger, Mes, War, and 2 DPS slots] . The DPS slots are usually eles, but also often guards and thieves.
2. Gear picked class and buy a bunch of relevant food and utility. The guild qT (quantify) has a pretty nice site for builds… can prob find it by googling “qT builds elementalist”
3. Learn your class. Go to Aerodrome special forces arena (requires commander tag in squad set to raid mode). Practice your class rotation until you’re fairly close to video (note that they usually give themselves all buffs and golems all conditions). Your dps numbers might be a bit low as theyre running with food, you dont really need food for it, just try to more or less line up the cooldowns. Twitch a bit during practice if eventually you’ll be using seaweed salad to get used to the constant movement (+10% dmg while moving)
4. Watch boss training vids for the boss(es) you want to do. Might want to look for people killing said boss with your chosen class (usually marked as someth like “Ele POV”)
5. Find a raid, ideally a training raid to start, and possibly a guild that accepts new people. Let them know how confident you are in golem rotation and that you did your boss homework by watching vids.

Good luck, have fun.

Some time ago I did this, so I might be a bit off. As I recall, the vine in question is to the NorthEast. Take the updraft immediately south of it by walking or possibly jumping once on it. Now, you might need to deploy glider with a slight delay so as to catch the low point of the draft to get its maximal lift or else you won’t make it to the vine.
Once on the vine, head toward the back left side of it (its NW side). You can get hit with rocks if you’re in the middle, as I found out the hard way. If you’re turned around and facing the center, this would feel like the back-right part of the vine.

yeah, it’s hard, but like most things in this game, the more time you put into it, the more you will understand it. Sure, do it with a guide, but by actually doing it yourself without reliance on a mesmer , you can learn a bit from each failure. Hell, bring a Mesmer yourself to give a couple portal redos every minute. I ran it initially with a guide and a person who sorta knew the first part. Later I helped my guild with portals for checkpoints and tokens near the end.

I think OP has a misconception about GW2 being mainly “soloable content”. From what I’ve seen playing last 1.5yrs, it really isn’t. (Aside: just recently I bought GW1, and though I’m only lvl3, I can see that there are always NPCs to help you, and in addition to what a guildie mentioned with much instancing etc., this first game entry is indeed meant mainly for soloing.)

You want to farm H’ween Labyrinth? Join a tag. Most guild missions? Need a guild with actual people in it. Content locked behind [Group Event]? Usually needs a group. Many HoT hero points might be soloable, but they’re so much easier with extra bodies, even if it’s just that one extra person to provide a momentary diversion from VB’s golem HP. Also, not every Dungeon is so easily puggable. I’d want experienced thieves to lead CM or Arah, and have seen it go horribly wrong on a few occasions. I’ll be honest, I’m usu sighing when pugs come into the dungeon group with strange specs, sub-level80, and/or without food.

TLDR — My point is that GW2 has been inherently created to be group-based content. Believe me, I love to solo things too, and thief was my first main, so I have definitely experienced bad beats. You really just need to find the right guild for you, and many of your problems will go away.
I was initially by myself for maybe a month, then joined a tiny guild, but that didnt work out for me as they wanted to stay tiny with slightly off timezones. Later I joined a mega guild, met a bunch of awesome people, did a bunch of previously closed (to me) content, like ALL the missions. After a long time, I did eventually move on to a guild more focused on endgame content, with more reliable T4s and raids that also fit my timezone. Current guild also does a few voicechat-based events outside of GW2. So yeah, some guilds might pleasantly surprised you.

Please make the move known as a dodge jump bindable to a single key! I personally don’t have a bind for dodge itself (preferring double taps from other game experience) , so making this move consistently is very hard for me. Would seem kinda pointless for me to bind a key near my spacebar to dodge for the sole purpose of this move, never actually using it otherwise.

Hopefully others can also relate to this and are in the same boat.

Last time I had a few boxes of snowballs (buyable on tp or from presents) and went to Queensdale. You want to drop snowball box, carefully approach a skritt, throw it, then run away. Do not get in combat. Else you’d need to waste time killing it before grabbing another ball.

Thief could potentially be safer than ele for new people learning mechanics and/or class rotations.
Where can it use its mobility?
1. Sab on cannon duty. Shadowstep to jump pad at the last moment dpsing until then. Added bonus: if someone fails to throw bomb to you, you can shadowstep back to avoid death from incoming flamewall.
2. Matt. If you get either of the poisons, you’re gonna be the fastest class to drop them off and return (shadow step again).

Can generally go as a DPS class to any fight. Can even stealth people pre-Sloth (mostly for speed runners).

tbh you picked a bad example for moments of explanation. That part is literally four people who say “1”, “2”, “3”, “4” then run together, maybe dodge tentacles a few times, and light their assigned fires.

In general, I agree that new people are often super silent. Just the other day I was doing lowbie fractals for incinerator collection, and had to explain Underground Facility (8) spreading out for buttons and then the 3 lasers at once at the door. I didn’t mind, and was in teaching mood anyway, but yeah, if silent you tend to assume everyone knows and sometimes a bit of disappointment could ensue. I was on my carry class anyway (necro), so nothing really fazed me.

A new zone, merges elements of PvE and PvP

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Do you really think it’d be so bad for the GW2 community? All I’m asking for is an experimental zone, in the same way that Bloodstone Fen has its glider skills that are not seen anywhere else. Fen was a test, more or less self-contained in its one area, and in the same way I think we could test this idea out without hugely impacting the ideals of GW2.

The biggest contradiction to GW2 ideals is the loot stealing. Would create a rather unpleasant environment. I could see say, a thief, waiting for someone to do most of the damage on a difficult mob then bursting the player down and stealing the loot. As well as other scenarios

Yeah, the loot stealing might be a bit controversial, but I would argue that it’d add a new level of excitement. Hopefully there’d be ways to have your party temporarily control an area (e.g. after defeating a gatekeeper in a boss antechamber) and thus make it difficult for cherry-pickers to sneak in. But part of the strategy (and fun!) should be to check for hiders before committing to one of these dungeon-like bosses.
Another idea: on boss reset of area in question, everyone gets kicked out to nearest safe area. Thus no-one could possibly be hiding for a long time near boss itself (and logouts would return you to nearest safe area).

…I think ANet should try this. Ofc more details need to be worked out, but yeah, had to get it out of my system.

Interesting for whom? You seem to be asking for a different game other than the one offered by ANet. There’s already a mixed PvP/PvE mode (WvW & EotM), although it includes objectives and tools to defend/assault (which you don’t want).

One of the reasons people love this game is that PvE is ‘pure’ — everything is versus environment. Rewards are earned together, not shared; there’s no chance of getting ganked; and there’s no competition (except when ANet has left a mechanics gap and they have been fixing those over time).

In short, I’m sure there’s a fun game out there that offers GW2-like combat in a mixed environment. But there’s no benefit to forcing that onto GW2.

Well, you guys are forgetting that WvW also groups people by region, whereas my idea is to involve small dynamic parties (perhaps they can only be changed from the safe zone).
I don’t think it’d be as disruptive as some of you make it out to be, just an experimental zone the size of Bitterfrost. There might be some sacrifices, sure, like no gliding, but just imagine many dungeon-style encounters with an extra competitive element.
Different mini-dungeon champs could even be gated off by doors and keys dropped by gatekeepers — a second party trying to steal the kill would need to wait for the key holder to respawn.

Key points:
1. No cannons, arrowcarts, trebuchets, or other strange WvW buildables — this is exactly what I’m trying to avoid.
2. A starting safe area for all coming to the zone
3. Bosses/champs or series of bosses with lucrative loot. Loot can also be stolen by others, say if they do more damage (or Nifhlel style of last hit wins)
4. Players can be killed by other players in unsafe zones
5. A way to form teams/squads, or perhaps teams of 5 is enough? Was thinking perhaps an LFG tab only visible while inside the zone.

I think ANet should try this. Ofc more details need to be worked out, but yeah, had to get it out of my system.

It’d be cool if you could skip all the dialogue, at the least. This is why it’s so painful for me to go back and even consider replaying LS2 on other characters — you have to wait for them to completely finish their speeches before anything interactable comes up. Sometimes I just want explorable, and, yes truly explorable mode for stories, dungeons, etc. Very much like the Nightmare fractal, where you just cross a line or interact with an orb and the next part just begins. It’s not that I don’t like the voice acting but rather that I’ve heard it so many times…
Sometimes I’m just thinking, “Stop talking already — I don’t need to know why I need to interact with this thing, just let me do it.”
That’d greatly speed up your experience.

Actual: All chat from party mysteriously disappeared, as if you were never in that party.

One interesting/useful point is that a person forcibly removed from the party still deserves to have a text log.

Raid Diversity is now Dead

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Assuming your group has other condi choices such as Condi Ranger, Condi PS War, Condi Engi, the patch has limited necro use as general condi class. I have no idea why the ANet devs chose to see fellow squad Druids spending their time and energy healing minions as a bad thing… necro never really had the DPS numbers anyway, until super late-game when it was possible but still unlikely to end up with large numbers of minion (end of Sab, end of Matt). But really this was not necro so much as excellent druid work. Limiting minions uptime might make some Druids question whether they did something wrong.

That being said, one may still be able to squeeze in a necro or two into a few 5-5 fights:
1. Sabetha — one alongside another condi class or two like warrior. The critical Karde turret part can be simplified by stacking condi followed by a timely epi. Hopefully Karde will not move much from the center and get distracted by Bomb throwers/ jumppad runners.
2. Sloth — one or two to ease condi clear for the group. Good groups will protect from the occasional fear, and then necro could keep plague signet up all the time.
3. Matthias — one for group condi clear, and slight help with group life siphon/heals. Hitting reaper 4 at abom phase and watching lots of group healing is quite rewarding to see.

Definitely some interesting stuff in this zone. So far I’ve brought in my Necro and Rev. On necro most of the stuff difficulty-wise seems alright, but on melee class there’s definitely at least one super hard area. The veteran elementals you have to kill for heart, near the steps, are quite hard. Only when event spawns are they suddenly easy, but without event they’re extremely difficult, as they’re always in threes, and constantly hitting quite hard, esp when breakbar comes up all too soon, before your main cc is even off cooldown. Not to mention that they always seem to stand around that unbound magic special action post, which in itself is a formidable distraction. Transport: can you make thermal transport happen in one smooth motion without interact? Just jumping in should be sufficient. Ideally the other end should be ground-colored, as I constantly find myself accidentally jumping into the wrong end. Possibly might need another waypoint — when someone yells that dominator is up, or evem just the pre is up, by the time I get there it’s likely dead. Much harder to sweep around to any given point B from any point A. Story itself — one guildie reported that she could not get kills towarss bomb achieve; only story host got credit.

Fractal + Patch Rant

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: icy.9250

icy.9250

I run fractals almost every day, and I have to agree with OP on evils of Random Bomb(name?) and Mist Convergence instabilities. They seemed to have messed with Mai Trin’s Bomb phase as well, as there are way too many overlapping circles to run away from now (dodge seems forced). I like most of the other changes/fixes, esp. lowering the damage from poison and removal of lethargic.
My core problem is basically the randomness. I play either viper necro or dps thief in fractals, and could incrementally learn how to get better at a Fractal’s mechanics, sometimes to the point of carrying a team of newer players. What the devs have done is turn a “fungeon” learning area into a chaotic zoo. Who thinks it’s “fun” when a tentacle spawns and forces out one of your dodges during last phase of Mai Trin? Who enjoys bombs in the cramped corridors of Cliffside? The only chaotic fractal should be the eponymous one — Chaos. Yes, I can still carry, but I might attribute that to the fact that I was able to quickly buy infinite mobility on necro (other two infinites don’t hurt, either). In general it’s a complete mixed bag… “Ok team, we’re gonna go try this strategy and hope we don’t get completely kittened by a rabbit that might magically spawn and one-shot one of us”. And here I was thinking that Bloomhunger’s new " must-dodge-bring-mobility-pot" mechanics were the end of it.
Indeed, as OP implied, not every fractal is Chaos and needs merging, nor is every fractal a raid (Hi Sabetha timed bombs, hi Snowblind final boss enrage, as if dps was lacking). I must admit, however, that the Sloth-like fixation addition for underground facility was good.

TLDR – usually run fractals with guildies but from time to time I like to lead pug runs. Basically, idk what to tell rest of the team now, something like “cross your fingers and hope the chaotic RNG will not make this experience miserable” ?

Minimum = 642ms, Maximum = 663ms, Average = 651ms

This matches some of the crap numbers I’ve been seeing after I log into the game, with no assetsrv, with assetsrv set to 174.35.71.9 or 151.249.90.199….same results.

tbh just posting to this forum is super slow

Since I first started playing last year and saw a mini Liadri, I knew that I wanted one. Can you guys please bring back all the events surrounding Crown Pavilion?!

I’m in same boat as OP as I only got into ranked last season. I’m finishing up Collection 3, but now I have concerns if I should even try parts of Collection 4?

TLDR — I have no chance to finish “divisions crossed”. Should I still go ham on Collection 4?

Commander Tag Color saved

agreed, remembering should be added! Thanks for adding two new colors. I had once had a Black and White tag colors thread — could you possibly add these colors in as well?! =) Black tag could have a thin white outline to distinguish its edges.

Input on 8/23 Roll-back

I’m not sure if related to rollback or the patch immediately after that, but there’s some sort of lag problem….
We were Raiding last night about 9:20pm-11:20pm EST , and a couple times a bunch of squad members lagged for up to 5 sec during fights. When it happened to me, I’d see people not moving and then suddenly speed up, etc some seconds later. When I remarked “lag!” on teamspeak, a few others agreed as it was happening.
Could there still be server load balancing issues going on?

no credit for Dodgy Crowd achieve

Doesn’t say that in the achievement. Merely says to be in the battle area…

Dodgy Crowd

Avoid all wind walls and sand pools while remaining in the battlefield against Togonn Windmane.

After much sweat and tears, I got it solo. Please add “Retry” mote area for just the boss. This will greatly help all those people frustrated by having to redo the whole instance just because boss decided to no-warning send sand at your feet.

Hi, I was doing Seeds of Truth LS2 story, No Refuge, with a guildie.

At end part, he solo’d the boss, while I avoided wind, and I was still eligible for Dodgy Crowd.

Fight finished, I still didn’t get it and was still eligible. Talked with Marjory, went to her cave, and the “Leave Instance” thing popped up.

I left instance and got nothing.

Connection issue with assetsrv 174.35.71.9

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Hi,

Basically, my main GW2 shortcut stopped working because I had set it to use assets from IP 174.35.71.9 . It’s been working fine for a long time, but a week or two ago, it mysteriously stopped working. I had set it to this IP after some inconsistent patches/dls, and it’s been great until recently.

For those readers who don’t know what I’m talking about, this was a way to specify the server for logging in and downloading of patches. You’d specify this by modifying the shortcut target, adding a switch -assetsrv IPADDRESS after the Gw2-64.exe. I want to note that this IP in particular is the first one in the ANet guide at

https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/93290408-Problems-Downloading-or-Patching

I’ve since been using -assetsrv 151.249.90.199 , but would like to eventually go back to one which had been stable for me for many months.

thx,
