I can’t say much about the one time event:
Day 1: Bugs
Day 2: Nothing even happened…the clock struck and we all just stood there waiting.
Day 3: It was over by the time I logged on; 5 failed attempts to join full Overflows afterwards.

This event was crap.

The loot drop distribution in GW2 is no different than that of GW1. Remember the mini polar bear event during wintersday dropping during a first attempt while others who grinded the holiday event thousands of times in hopes of getting one came out empty handed? Remember rare items like a Crystaline sword or a Voltaic Spear dropping during an instance while the rest only got garbage drops? Nothing has changed.

Off topic – but thank you for the nostalgia. Man do I miss GW1…

The myth of Precursor/Legendary Weapons

My point was that the precursors and the cost of making the legendaries were already WAY overpriced and that this will hopefully lower that to just simply overpriced.

Point taken, though this should be under the crafting forums or something.

I rather have a chance at getting a free precursor, wither I’ll be using it towards a legendary or sell it for 100-200g – but instead I got shafted and my only experience with this events are the ones I’ve read through complaints.

The event started around 2pm here, however I was under the assumption that this event would go on all day. I was at a friends house the night before and only when I came home and logged on at 3pm, I found out that it was over.

Go on to the forums and read that they’re looking into doing something about it due to the massive amount of complaints. Then without any formal statement I found out that new overflows with the event are happening. Waste x-amount of hours trying to join the overflow, but they were all full – it got to a point where i thought it was all a hoax.

All in all, this is the worst experience of an MMO event, ever.

2 Precursors from the chest? Really?

That’s ridiculous, might as well give everyone who participated a complimentary Legendary, and the ones who didn’t have their characters revert back to level 0.

I missed out on the event, and got absolutely nothing. Although I envy the ones who were lucky enough to get a precursor, this suggestion isn’t realistic at all.

People are upset because they missed out on 20 slot bags and such, in addition to a chance to obtain a precursor

You’re clearly not very understanding OP

Don’t forget about Asia too, this “global” event wasn’t so global but more reserved for certain places evidently…

You didn’t get a precursor, big deal. This sense of entitlement is ridiculous. Stop whining or stop playing the game.

It’s called a personal input posted in what’s called a forum. Deal with it

Wonder how they intend to compensate the ones who didn’t d/c but had the chest despawned whilst they were reviving others?

Then the concept of the whole “one time event” is flawed & beyond help, and we can blame Anet for not taking that into consideration – by making an event 2 hours long that even altered the map really only gives a handle of people to participate.

Fair enough, I suppose. It probably would’ve been better for it to have been less flashy and thus more easily repeatable. But I will admit that it was definitely impressive to see stuff like the event as it was. Alot of the reason it was oneshot is because the map itself was organic – if you missed the initial raid on Southsun, it didn’t have anything like bridges or outposts initially, and the metaevent quest line involved helping and protecting the Lionsguard as they built all of those things.

So you got to actually watch them colonize a portion of the island and fortify it against the Karka in anticipation of today. It was really cool, but unfortunately, the reason it was really cool is also the reason it had to be a one-time event. Maybe it was overly ambitious of them, in light of players abroad, but I appreciated them trying to do it even though I missed a good third of the event due to my own time zone.

See; I had no idea what you were talking about in your first reply, in terms of why it was difficult for it to be repeated due to map alterations because I didn’t and wasn’t able to participate I had no idea that’s what happened. It only makes me more mad now that I’ve missed such a unique event…

That’s a rather bland insight; not to blame Anet when they obviously didn’t give a chance to players from Oceania or Asia. Is it really hard for them to make chest account bind and made the event repeatable for the entire day rather than just 2 hours?

Potentially, yes, it did seem like it would be hard to run in succession. There’s no fixed time on the event; it took each server as long as it took them to run through it all, and the event itself took place over most of the map, with the landscape changing during parts of the event (for example, permanent holes were blasted in the hive, steam geysers were uncovered and used that were still there after the event, etc.). I’m not sure how you would make the event, as it was, repeatable without having parts of the map regenerate or change back to their pre-event settings, and I imagine players would still be complaining about the inconsistent times if it repeated.

I missed the entirety of the first day, myself, because I was at work at noon my time when it began. But I understand why they couldn’t have Lion’s Arch raided for the first time multiple times just to give everyone a try. There is unfortunately no golden time that works best for every time zone across the world, and not every event can be perpetual for everyone.

I got two exotics from the event; one was worth 8 gold and one was worth 5 gold. The price of both halved on the TP before I even thought about selling either, and they aren’t exotics any of my character classes can use. I guess that was lucky, but it feels like almost 10% of the remaining profit went into revive/repair costs.

Still, on the whole, I had a really good time today and I wish others had too. I’m sorry if they lost out on the chance for the chest at the end, and I wish the metaevent had dropped minor rewards throughout too so they could have received something. But I don’t think it’s right to judge the event purely on what you received item-wise.

The map itself was really interesting, and it was a great experience having fun with friends doing Skipping Stones yesterday, or battling the Ancient Karka today. ANet certainly had their flaws – I think they should have staggered the instances from the start, and informed us in advance when they did. But most of it I think was out of their control. They probably did beta-test the events that bugged, but you can’t effectively beta-test the effect of thousands of people doing it at once. Not even a public test realm would have imitated that level of stress test.

But I don’t think it’s right to blame the event for being on the wrong side of a RNG. If you allow for exotics, you should also allow for precursors, because precursors are themselves exotics. The people who got those got luckier than the people who didn’t, but I don’t think it’s right to blame them – or ANet – for events making it easier to get precursors. Especially because you might be one of the ones who do get one next time – and Wintersday isn’t all that far away.

All in all, though, I think it was a fun event, even if it was flawed. I do wish they hadn’t padded the boss fight with those “Reinforcements” waves though; that actually detracted from the epicness of the experience the way it was delivered (since the Ancient Karka just kind of stood there while we fought a mob for 20 minutes).

That’s a rather bland insight; not to blame Anet when they obviously didn’t give a chance to players from Oceania or Asia. Is it really hard for them to make chest account bind and made the event repeatable for the entire day rather than just 2 hours?

Shame on those people who are completely oblivious to the fact that some people can’t afford to book a whole day off work or skip school and criticize us about complaining.

I was fortunate to be in a timezone that started around the afternoon on a Sunday but my fault was that I assumed it would be a repeatable event throughout the entire day. I spent the night at a friends and got home an hour after the event.

Event needs to repeat.

No kidding, if the event was shorted (being around 2hrs atm) and have repeat I wouldn’t mind, but for a specific 2 hour event for only 1 day is ridiculous. I feel sorry for the global players from other time-zones

It’s absolutely stupid to literally have a one-time event. I’m got going to book time off work or skip school specifically for 2 hours of GW2. If it was repeating throughout ONE day I can’t complain but common. All this hype was for nothing

The hype of The Lost Shore was evident throughout the week, being that it was a one time event; I assumed however that this meant the event was planned to go throughout the day similar to that of Halloween when MK was in Lion’s Arch, it only seemed logical since I couldn’t imagine them having an event literally once for thousands of people, around the globe, to cramp into a few servers and overflow – not to mention the amount of lag/issues that would cause. Alas my initial assumption was proven wrong.

I logged onto my account today to find I’ve missed the event by an hour, and because of that I’ve missed my chance to experience something really unique and to obtain some valuable loot; I made my way to the forums to discover others who were online at the time were unlucky as well. Wither they got d/c, couldn’t log back in after d/c, logging into a different overflow after d/c, or just literally having the Chest despawn infront of your eyes because you were too busy rezing others.

I can already assert some of you who’ve been bless with the chance to loot will reply with something trivial and usless like “hurrr it’s your fault for not booking time off werk” or “that’s life buddy too bad” or even “I miss the phase 1 & 2, you don’t see me complaining” (give me a kittening break)

Well first off, not everyone can afford book time off work or skip school but even so many of you seem to be avoiding to discuss of the ones who got d/c or literally had the reward despawn in front of them. And let’s face it, the experience was unique and all but I’m sure players are more interested in the rewards and would appreciate to yield something for their time. if you think otherwise then go ahead and trash your 20slot bag and newly obtain Precursors

A simple solution or even a method of approach should of been to make the event shorter than 2hrs and make it repeat multiple times for one day. Perhaps then maybe people with work or school could have a chance to enjoy it too once they finish their business? Perhaps this approach would too spread out the lag? Give the participants a chance to obtain their reward wither due to despawn, without the intervention of GMs?

This is just how I see it:

People who did event and d/c from it and missed reward should be compensated.

People who missed it cause of work/school/other issues. It is like a one-time convention either you go to it or miss it you cannot expect it to repeat.

People in Asia/Oceanic timezones. These are NA/EU servers you have no reason to complain. In fact you should have been aware that all events would happen during NA/EU times.

Yeah…because it’s absolutely impossible for Anet to make an event that happens throughout the day for people how has school/work/other issues that were unable to log in specifically in that 2 hour timeframe

Or maybe make it so event happens throughout the day and not just ONCE? I heard people got d/c, chest despawn infront of their eyes, or just others who weren’t able to log in on to the game that specific hour of the day
