OP hits the nail on the head, combat has stopped being fun and there is no indication that fun is even “on the table” anymore, combatwise. Looking at how things are developing it seems fun has a completely different definition in whatever dictionary anet is using.

Yeah I think a log over who has used tactivators at specific objectives and the ability for the claiming guild to ban specific people from using their tactivators again would be a very nice and clean way of dealing with the trolls.

We’re investigating whether to fix or revert DBL. They’re both a lot of work. These next couple days will be your last chance to give feedback before we make a decision, so speak now or forever hold your peace.

If not reverting I think at least bringing the old BL’s back in a rotation. Would bring more variation to WvW and not mean throwing away good maps that a lot of people like.
And if the counter argument that different BL’s different week would cause inbalance arises, well there is no balance as it stands, so why start there.

250 Hero Points is way too easy.

Unlocking the elite specialization is not supposed to be hard. You should be able to play the new content (or any content you wish for that matter) with your elite spcialization, not with just fragments of an unfinished traitline. The elite specialization is not the end-goal of the game, it’s what you use to play the game. Someone made an excellent comparison about restaurants in the other thread but I can’t find it now, the basic principle is that you shouldn’t have to unlock a spoon to eat a bowl of soup.

I am sorry that other people not being forced to play a certain way diminishes your sense of accomplishment but for me these news are a massive relief.

I like the new map. It seems a bit empty, but I’m hoping that once people have worked through the elite spec grind they will come back to WvW and the maps will fill up a bit more.
I liked the old borderlands too, it would be nice if they could have the new and the old borderlands in rotation. That way you’d get more variation in world vs world, and the old maps were solid maps, seems a shame to just remove them from the game.

I dont get why you are all complaining about the 400 points , I started playing friday and play for 3 hours a day and have my reaper already 80% finished . No stress and ita fun unlocking everyskill.

I don’t understand the reasoning behind the soulbound 400 hero point grind. It’s not a challenge, it’s a time gate. That you have to repeat over and over and over. You are forced to play in ways you don’t want to for long periods of time, just to get to play how you want. You have already sold us on the expansion, with elite specialisations people were looking forward to playing, why are we being punished for buying what you sold us? Seems arbitrary and completely unneccessarily. We already have the mastery tracks we can spend our time working on, why time-gate the elite specs? I can not understand the decision making here. And especially not when it’s soulbound, it’s not even that it’s not “alt-friendly”, it’s extreme even two characters. Please fix this ASAP.

I stopped playing because the thought of having to grind so much to get elite spec on one of my charcters, not even considering several of them, was too much.
And the thought how I have to play and what parts of the game I have to play to get the hero points simply is not fun for me. Call me lazy or spoiled, but the fact is I turned off the game two hours into launch day of the first expansion because I was bored.. I play to have fun, elite spec is fun. I bought an expansion and now I have to grind and grind to gain access to that expansions content, or at least the content that interests me. And this is the MMO that’s supposed to be free from grinding. Nice job.

You will not be able to buy favor with gold. We want favor to be a currency with value for the guild system in Heart of Thorns and do not want it to become trivial for some guilds.

I have a feeling that large guild will find gathering favor trivial irregardless of being able to purchase it, assuming it works like influence, but small guilds will have a much harder time. I am a member of a very small guild, and I’ve bought influence on a couple of occasions to speed up the upgrade process a bit since we gained influence so slowly on account of our member size. I worry that with the new system it will be futile to even think about getting a guild hall etcetera.

I strongly dislike that I’m buying an expansion and then I have to do farming on all my alts to access the new content I bought the expansion for, the elite specializations. For me personally that seems more like a chore than fun gameplay. I have spent a lot of time running around PvE gathering hero points on one of the several alts I have and have reached something like 120 hero points. That’s not fun for me. Even if the ones in the jungle (a zone that doesn’t hold alot of interest for me personally) are worth more, and even if you can buy them with badges of honor, these are just alternative ways of grinding instead of just playing. I don’t know any good alternative solutions though. Maybe just let people play the content they have bought the expansion for and leave all the grinding to unlock the new skins?

Just make it so immob has dimishing returns, problem fixed without fully nerfing.

If they would revert immob back to the non-stacking way it used to work it would improve so much of the game. People would actually have to think about when to used immob skills more, and these kinds of issues would be better.

As we are all aware the pvp element like many other games is littered with some of the most abusive people you will find

The question is, is it okay to call people out after games, obviously not abusive?

I think it’s important to remember that very unbalanced matches come from flaws in matchmaking. Personally, I think it’s okay to try to give pointers or things that people can think about in order to improve, but “calling people out” also enables a more toxic atmosphere in general, imho, which there is already enough of in PvP.

It’s very easy to put people on the defence and it’s hard to give advice without people thinking that you are being aggressive towards them, so sometimes it’s just best to try to think about what you can learn from the game and just write off the rest to bad matchmaking.

Because they enjoy having fun their way in a game they purchased themselves.

Also, 4 hours can be kind of a relief, no one week long matches where you loose everything during the night anyway etcetera.

Also, flame rams sound really odd after the patch, and catapults (at least guild catas) have a very jarring audio glitch sometimes, sort of like that old very loud popping audio glitch.

It sounds to me that you want people to sacrifice their happiness for your happiness. I like to do my thing, run around capping camps and trying to find fun fights, because that is what I think is fun, zerg play is monotonous and boring in my personal opinion. And if it is like you say, that you run around with big zergs in TS laughing about how bad people are, that is certainly not something I think sounds like fun.

I’ve heard people say “this is how it is meant to be” about big blob-fights with lots of siege and I’ve heard it said about standing still in a spot away from the action and just 1v1’ing. Both are valid, if you get enjoyment out of it.

No matter what way you prefer to play, don’t sacrifice your happiness for other people, it is a computer game. You have a right to play whatever way you want to, you don’t have a right to tell other people how to play.

Unplayable lag since yesterday

I have contacted my ISP (Telia Sonera), and reported the errors they have with one of the backbone-servers, the response was something like this:
We can see there is a problem, specified server is not responding to tracert/ping, but as you are a private person we can not do anything about it. Contact Ncsoft and tell them to contact us about the problem.

I and several other users get caught in the middle, with dc/lagspikes/cant login/can login but not choose character/map dont load etc.

That is certainly very interesting. My ISP is not Telia but I’ve seen that the traffic gets routed through Telia nodes and have noticed packet loss there when I’ve had crippling lag.

I really hope this issue gets thoroughly investigated by anet instead of the boilerplate “the issue is with your ISP” that everyone I know recieves when everything except GW2 works perfectly fine and GW2 is unplayable.

A way to report

I really wish they would rework the report tool. It should be context sensitive so that the options are always relevant to where you are, in PvP, in a dungeon, in WvW, etc. The existing options are pretty much always not suited for whatever you are reporting about.

A small text area where you could input a short message (160 characters max or something like that) would also be great as a way to add a little context regarding the report.

This is not a whole new level, invisible golems and invisible people have been around for very long. I remember FSP had some hacker during the spring tournament this year, people recorded videos and sent to anet but nothing happened. I personally recorded an unlisted video and sent detailed information both to exploits@arena.net (because back then that was the instruction we had) and created a ticket about it, but nothing happened. I could even see from the view-count of the unlisted video that no-one had even watched it. And now the recent information is that we are supposed to use the in-game report feature, which can’t even be used on invisible players. I understand there are recent efforts to combat cheating in WvW, and that lots of things happen behind-the-scenes, but all my previous instances of reporting cheaters have just left me disheartened.

Imho, if the report dialog is what we are supposed to use for reporting cheaters, then that dialog should be reworked with actual options for reporting people who cheat or exploit. And a way of bringing up that dialog even when the perpetrator is invisible should be made available, something like just typing “/report” in chat. So that a report with a timestamp and a location is generated. Maybe some small textarea where a brief description of the nature of the report should also be added, so we can be sure the context of the report is made clear.

You have things on sale for 700 gems. You have things on sale for a number of gems that is not evenly divisible by 400. I am not a rich player, i mainly wvw or pvp. I am not a rich person IRL so I cant afford to buy gems for real money.
The number of items I have been able to purchase through the gemstore is extremely limited already, despite having over 4k hours invested in this game. Making me have to pay even more gold to get items just feels like a big slap in the face. The new outfit looks snazzy, converting gold into 700 gems might have been worth it. It would be my first outfit. But this change… I don’t know how it’s justified, it seems like a bad change pretty much whichever way you look at it.

And also once again, was the community asked about if they would think it would be a good idea? No, not really. Are they ever? Can a certain trend of community-backlash causing changes be seen? Is anything being done about possibly preventing bad changes that cause these reactions? No, not really. Devs talk more on the forums, but what does that matter? Pipelined changes are top secret and then there is really no point. We cant have CDI’s for everything, but for the things that are not CDIed there must at least be some sense of awareness from anet about what and how the players are using the functions you are massively changing.

As a member of a very small guild (around 2-3 active players) and with no real interest to join a massive guild, it would be nice to see this accessible in some way. Guild missions are out of our reach and that is something that we are fine with, but this would be interesting to at least have access to. And I dont expect a massive palace since we are such a small guild, but maybe a tiny mud-hole to call home ^^

And now anet has done it again, not listening to the community for such a long time has resulted in being completely out of touch and doing insane things like the current leveling changes, and a lot of anger has been sparked. I complain a lot about the lack of developer interest in the parts of the game I enjoy most, but much of what I’m seeing recently just makes me wish they keep staying away, the vision they have for the game seem to be so wildly conflicting with what potential improvements I can imagine. They have started communicating more (at least for now) but since they wont talk about what they are working on that is no guarantee it wont be some other ridiculous thing that just makes the community even angrier and the game worse. If they don’t stop this clearly counter productive policy of zero communication about upcoming changes and just take a big step back to see what people actually want they will just be killing the game more and more with every change like this. All communication in the world wont help you if you are not willing to gather input about whether people will enjoy the changes you are working so kitten. It is wasted developer time and all the anger is bad PR. Is this so hard to understand?

Guild Wars 2 is a very good game, so people can accept some mismanagement, but the pain threshold is only so high. The direction this is going in is very rapidly removing all confidence a lot of players have that anet has any idea what so ever of what they are doing. Please, just stop it.

The problems with this is when it creates a big disconnect between what perceived and actual desires of the community. Take the colored commander tags as a case in poin, a feature was developed and announced where the major point of what the community wanted had been completely misinterpreted. The community wanted the ability to split up big groups and organize on the fly in an easy way, arenanet thought we wanted some sort of bling-bling cosmetic colored tags. And alot of anger ensued from that. The lack of communication creates these massive backlashes.

And even when it’s not discussing future features, the lack of communication in parts of the game (such as WvW) where there is already a general thought that arenanet does not care just serves to confirm that assumption. Lack of communication is bad for the community most of the time. It doesn’t have to be “we are going to implement feature X, Y and Z” but it also definitely can’t just be complete radio silence.

Such a disappointing implementation of a simple change. Instead of finally improving WvW in a meaningful way by fixing quality of life changes in an area of the game that has been ignored for far to long they do this. So in order to use this color-system the way it was actually desired from the player base every commander will have to spend 900 gold (or at least 700g if they already had a tag prior to patch).

What is the reasoning behind this? It completely voids the purpose of the wanted feature. It is implementing it behind a paywall and adding complexity to what was supposed to be a feature that would just help people organize easier.

I complain alot about how WvW i being completely neglected, after seeing this change I’m not even sure I want to see other features implemented.

Kale and Punk usually run on same map doing their own thing because we communicate well together, we never blob as one force, one commander. We do however shadow each other if the circumstances require us too. Why ppl make out that we blob as one all the time is beyond me? That never happens, like i said we are often in the same fights (only if the situation requires us to, weather that be if we are facing greater numbers or defending something) but always work independently in our own TS channels etc. and many times i can recall if there is a fair fight the the other guild will leave em to it or hold back. Any situations u may recall that we have been together in a fight is if we are defending/saving an infrastructure or if the open field battle is clearly outweighed in numbers etc. We see it in chat all the time, for example Kale could be fighting a guild and they see us coming, often they will say “we got this” or vice versa.

I’m sure our absolutely massive number of defenders at hills required all of Kale, PUNK and VoTF to work together. But yeah, I can clearly see several meters between the guild-groups so at least you were not blobbing.

AWww… Where’s the snapshot of your people on the bridge? Please don’t say thats just you guys there on the walls.. because the amount of Loots we got with inv instantly filled weren’t just from 3-5 guys

I don’t have a snapshot of that, I died on the wall. When i got hills we were maybe 10 people. I saw RAGE arrive later and maybe more (there was a WP there after all, and when three big guild groups are through inner people tend to react). I have some video recorded from my corpses position on the wall. You can’t see the bridge very well from it though. But you will probably believe that I photoshopped every frame of it so what does it matter.

Maybe we had over eight thousand people inside defending and were blobbing like mad, using over 200 omega golems to try to stop you. But it did flip rather quickly so I highly doubt it.

As to the VoTF guy complaining about the amount of siege, the siege on inner in hills was built when outer was down. There was siege on outer but no-one there to use it. At least as far as I saw. The siege on inner was built because there were so very many enemies outside and so few of us inside that we knew that if inner gate goes down then the keep was going to flip.

GH - FSP - AS

Just wanted to say that BROS guild reflects poorly on FSP server. Twice now they have apparently glitched towers in EB and attempted to take them. First time Klovan, we found two inside attacking lord without any wall or the gate being down. Second time Aldon’s, and while our group was fighting at overlook, the tower suddenly turned blue,without swords ever appearing. Same guild again and no siege at all around the tower, so perhaps another glitch.

I ve never seen anyone else from FSP exploiting glitches like this, so no one is accusing the whole server, but it does add a sad note to the great game we are having this past week.

The BROS people seem to have left EB for greener pastures this evening. They glitched into our garrison and later in the evening as we ran up to sunnyhill one of them flew up on the wall and ported the rest of them in. Very sad behaviour.
