Actually i would be delighted if cooldowns would be calculated trough this formula..
Cooldown = max coolldown * pages left/ max pages
Should be ‘pages used’ rather than ‘pages left’. The way you have it, it would benefit the most to use all but one page, then exit the tome for an enormous cd reduction.
I like these suggestion. If you only use one page in a tome, the cooldown is severely reduced which rewards you for choosing your skills carefully rather than spamming.
This is what i had in mind when i came up with this system…. It does not give to much of an adventage… but it takes the gameplay to another level…. I hate mindlessly spamming skills witouth tought…

Offcourse you are right, my typo.. lesson learned… never do things in a hurry… but it seems you understood what i meant, so not much harm done, i guess.
Actually i would be delighted if cooldowns would be calculated trough this formula..
Cooldown = max coolldown * pages left/ max pages
This would make for much better gameplay witouth any real huge ballance issues… i.e. It would not force you to use all pages for optimal gameplay… but would add a gamplay decision.. should i use all my chapters, or only use the 2 i need most and then move on..
So for example with the cooldown reduction and the 3 extra pages, this would mean you could use 3 healing chapters from tome of resolve and have the tome in resolve available after 30 *3/8 = aprox 11 seconds
Now this makes a real support class much much more viable…
I think i will start a fresh new level 80 weaver for the expansiom..
And then role-play the old story content as memmory loss slowly comming back
But how hard will it be to pick up to other players, gearwise and goimg for full archievement progression.. playing it as my only character.
And then there is racial choice, allready hvae an astura ele which i dont like annimation/size wise (also Norm disquallify for this project). So that leaves me with a choice between Charr, human and wooden puppet. Not just annimations, but also racial backround stories..
For example, if i would choose charr, i would roleplay it as a Shaman
Any input is welcomed…

This is a rather odd question …
Anet makes changes all the time.
Yes but there is a difference between minor mechanics, and giving in to the allmost complete elitespec overhaul many people are asking for…
The current mechanic bossts simplistic gameplay witouth many decisions to make, open a tome.. and then cast all the chapters to be efficient.. and wayt for the cooldown of the tome…
Many people prefer nechanics, where you would open a tome cast 2 or 3 chapters and move to the next tome or a weapon… atleast thats what read from the comments… and this would mean a major overhaul on a classmechanic, last minute… and thats something different then changing a few stats…
We all know several small changes could make the Guardian much much more fun to play.
But, dowe expect Arenanet to make such changes? Or will they stay away fro, changing mechanics this late to not even more unballance things?
What are your expectations?
So will we see any support, bunker or healing builds based on the weaver elite spec?
Another suggestion on the same topic…
A) tomes work like engineer kit, no casting time, no cooldown…
B) the pages work like rogue energy points, you recharge one page/seccond
C) you have 8 pages (12 when specced) for all tomes together.. they also recharge
D) the chapters have no recharge time either, but each page costs a different number of pages. 1st chapter (free) 2nd (1 page) 3rd (2pages) 4th(3 pages) 5th(4pages)
E) damage Numbers and chapter skills are ballanced for the new system.
F) virtue passives, numbers are based on on number of pages..
Isnt that what allways has been Arenanets definition of the Elementalist…
It requires a huge amount of work to compete in some degree with other classes… but in the end the class has allways felt weak.
The annimations are definately making my day, and on an 8 secs cooldown..
Everytime i use this skill, i am getting that , oh YEAH feeling…
It just looks so great…
Same with skills like sick em that require a pet, no use of them in beast mode
The fact that all old skills dont generate any heat makes them useless in a holosmith build..
Is this a bug, or intentional…
I think all these solitions would overpower tomes…
To make the tomes more usefull, an easy way would be to make recharge time based on the numbers of tomes spend.. so if you use 3 tomes of a total of 8, the recharge time of that tome would be 3/8 * 20 secs = 7.5 secconds ( tome of justice with recharge time reduction).
Its sad that with the current recharge time mechanic you are like forced to spend all chapters or you would end sub optimal, this mechanic would make switching between tomes much more fun, and add more depth to the decisions made, while not overpowering the Virtues.
I played most of the new specs, and liked Ranger most of them all… never mained a ranger and missed most of the HOT expansion, i only recently returned…
Looks like ranger with the druid and the soulbeast is having 2 incredible different elitespecs
I was having high hopes for this class, yet even with the 33% recharge time reduction on tomes, the recharge times make the tomes useless..

With all the casting and tomes, firebrand seems quie usefull as a ranged class, even with the staff 1 skill nurf. Anyone else planning to go this route?
So have we seen an official reaction from anet on this topic, are they looking into this, or just trying to not notice the current rage…
So basically, the Firebrand is a caster with the scrolls and mantra’s. I dont see a savage axe in that picture…
I normally play humans. But my Guardian is an Asura, and somehow i have grown tired of its annimations..
In the demo, this weekend, i created a Charr Guardian, and absolutely loved the annimations.
So whats the coolest race for Guardian, when it comes to
A) annimations
B) lore
C ) racials
(In that order)
Just wondering if the sword choice turns the weaver into a full mellee build?
I skipped most of HoT and am looking for a new class, i dont mind playing old (elite) specs..
I am looking for a mellee caster hybrid playstyle, preferably not wearing light armor. Something akin to an oldfashioned battlemage..
So what specs would you advise me looking into
Tomes have huge cooldowns (30, 45, 90 respectively) so they can never be anything similar to Celestial Avatar.
Tomes have huge cooldown becuz they are essentially virtues. Yes, it’s disappointing that player couldn’t roleplay as a dedicated tome-caster, but you have to look at bigger picture; adjusting the CD on tomes meant that Anet have to re-adjust the core specs as well, it’s a cascading effect.
They dont need to overhaul anything, just give a cooldown reduction on virtues of 50% when choosing the elite firebrand.. add to that another 50% when using the grandmaster trait … and you have 7, 11and 23 seconds cooldown on the virtues.. making the tomecaster class much more viable witouth changing any of the core mechanics..
It looks like firebrand is the elite spec we know least about .
The 2 or 3 youtube video’s about firebrand are mostly based on assumptions
The wiki page espescially when it comes to tomes is very incomplete..
So what have i figured out, the 3 tomes are effectively 3 new forms
Each tome has 5 chapters which will be effectively the abilities on your bar
These abbilities cost pages to cast. We dont know how many pages a spell costs
Looks to be much like the elementalist weapons.
Since all chapters also have a cooldown(wiki) can we asume each chapter cast cost a single page? And how many pages will a to e have when fully loaded?
However, there is a chance that when you dont deplete all pages on a tome,
It will regenerate pages instead of going in full cooldown
So we dont know many of the chapters of the 3 tomes, but it looks like we will have a tome for firedamage, a tome for healing and a tome for buffing/debuffing.
I think the tome mechanic should in the end give the same feel as the celestial avatar of a druid, or the deathshroud of the necromancer.. as long as we domt deplete it.. and we would have 3 offcourse..
A lot of assumptions, but thats because we dont have a complete overview of the to es mechanic yet..
The mantra mechanic has allways been my least favorite one in game. If they only gave the long casting part some kind of usefull effect, it would be much more fun.
And yes, i also agree with everyone that they need to repair the spirit weapons…
But i have strong hopes that the firebrand with the tomes mechanic could become a strong and fun contender, wish we had more information tough.
Most people have no idea how the spec will play…
I dont understand all this negative vibe..
If i am correct the class will play like an old fashioned battlemage…
Willit be fun? That remains to be seen and is obviously personal preference
Could it be that the Firebrand plays like a kind of battlemage?
Or atleast gives that feeling of part true caster and part Melee?
To bad we cant use the bow with this spec, it might have given the feeling of an arcane archer..
Is it just me, or is Arcane Waves blast finisher no longer working?
Anyone have a good (non meta) build with good survivabillity, healing, condition based damage and mobillity…
Based on exotic armor….
Looking for a new challenge, what builds give the most jack of all trades feeling (realisibg that it would also be a master of none)…
A litle healing, lots of selfhealing, a little dps, some conditions, some fields, some finishers, as much CC as possible… enough survivabillity to keep standing, with enough dps to eventually kill some selfhealing mobs… but also some team support…
A build that gives players choice… currently looking at elementalists, engineers, druids, heralds and thiefs.. sadly all builds i find are for specific jobs…
All i want for christmass is a longbow, so i can have a full ranged build, it would suit the class very well…
So what would your Revenants christmass wish be? Keep it simple, and stick to a single wish…
Get zerker, you will not regret it.
I have zerker. I’m looking to try something different for a change. This game’s one-dimensional zerker meta is a real problem IMO.
Exactly…
Glint is so powerfull that it is a requirement in any level 80 build…
The only way to efficiently play a revenant is powering trough your power and switching legends as soon as your power is depleted, anything else is not valid.. ( maybe ventari being the exception, as you only use the healing powers when needed)
So basically there are 4 builds… 1 for each of the 4 legends…
In general most people would like to have melee and range options in a single build, making hammer part of most builds, as it is the only ranged weapon…
Some of the utillity skills are so very much off sync with a build, that they are never or barely ever used… other utillity skills required for a good build are not available for it because they are only part of other legends…
There is no way to gain energy trough actions… (a system like this could work better with builders and spenders.)
If you combine these facts, you will realise whats currently wrong with the class…. some simple solutions would help……
-adding more utillity skills/legend so players have more freedom in building
- i never understood why they added recast timers on top of the energy mechanic, it kills a lot of the freedom i expected from this class, and which i love on the thief… the class should have been ballanced fully around energy, if skills are to overpowered, they should have ballanced them trough powercost and damage output….
- there should also be a mechanic that makes staying in the same legend stance worthwhile…
Now keep in mind that these are my opinions, and that i love the idea and annimations of the class, there are just to many people complaining about it, and thats not witouth reason…. mow i am not an expert on the class, but i hope that my fresh opinion based on a few weeks of playing herald derived some ideas that could help out the class as a whole…. currently it feels like the uggly duck that was born to late…
I don’t know if the class needs a redesign, it just needs more skills. If each legend had double the skills, it’d feel a lot less limiting.
Maybe lower cds and raise energy costs. I’d love it if there were no cds and instead it was entirely energy management. They’d obviously have to tweak some numbers, but I think the class would be more interesting. Maybe I’m wrong though.
There is an easy way to add more skills…. make it so that for each stance there is an option to choose stancform i.e. Taking dragon or centaur form and having 5 formspecific weaponskills… just making the forms f1 and f2 and double clicking on them activating this…. in this way it would allow more skills…
I am interested in opinion, what makes this class most fun for you..
Where does it shine?
Where could it use a little help?
side note I always thought that Rocket Boots should have been a stun breaker based on the animation.
But to the main point, yes. People complained that turrets were OP so anet nerfed them to the ground. With the track record that anet is looking at underused utilities, maybe gadgets will get something good.
Turrets def need a buff of some sort. Auto repair would be nice (x%/pulse).
In my world turrets have allways felled underpowered…
Bard would rule…. but good old bard are a buffer class with some added healing and crowd controll …. shield or sword offhand… maybe even both to give the option of choosing offense or defense……
And then adding rifle as a normal weapon….
Good question… anyone got a good hit and run build with high mobillity and huge frontload damage?
Or a build based on crowd controll and support for helping out your group in WvW
I ended up creating a Norn Engineer today…
- there is enough leads in my current story to make a relation with a char engineer in my youth a beleivable thing… this for character immersion and roleplaying..
- combat on the level 40+ Norn feels so much more immersive…
So, to each their own… normally i allways play humans..
What makes the revenant for you that special and fun class?
Where does it stand out above the others?
And where could it need some help?
According to A-net a race change is not an option considering the racial lore and class stories… but having a human form illusion would not break the racial lore….
A human “iillusion” while maintaining the gear you want to show off is race changing.
But sure if you want to run around as a stock human in starter gear…
No its not race changing at all…. because you can allways go back to your orriginal race…
You could even make it a feature, when you get the illusion, it opens up some of the other racial story quests to you… which might be interesting for people who allways stick to a single character/mmo..
Race changing would mean that your racial story quests could have never happened…
Is there any type of item that can make my asura look like a human?
I am just feeling i pull to much attention in human lands…
on a serious note, i really hate how small my asura is and thats it almost impossible to see all the splendor of my armor.. having illusions that make my asura look like a human in PvE combat would prevent the need of leveling another toon and not having to throw away the huge time investment i allready have in this character…
According to A-net a race change is not an option considering the racial lore and class stories… but having a human form illusion would not break the racial lore….
I have a little asura level 80 engineer, that i once choose for PvP reasons… and the better utillity skills…
- but, my little playfull asura does not feel like a commander…
- on top of that i have become to hate the fact that i cant see all the details on my character because its so small
Now i have a lvl 40 boost in my packs… and decided to make a new engineer… now which race should i choose… what engineer has the coolest moves and annimations? What makes you feel at home in your role as commander?
Never mind, found my answer in the sticky posts…
Seems wolfineer quit Gw2 … he also disabled his website…
Did anyone save all that great info somewhere
Or took over Wolfineers role as Engineer expert?
Anyone using a great PvE build with a celestial spec? I am trying to build a ranger that does not excell at anything but can keep doing continous DPS and healing while not dieing all the time…
Is a full melee build viable for PvE?
I played a 60 levels of Necromancer way before HOT… what i disliked was that the staff felled like a predominant weapon required in every build i came up with…
How much has changed after HOT, can you have a full ranged or a full mellee build?
And what about a strong support build?
Trying out the warrior again at lvl 80 to see if i should spend my free 80 at it…
So what would be a good open world PvE build with good selfhealing? Preferably a build that allows to use a lot of different weapon types?
There is no rotation, skill use is very very situational… tough uppon switching to a kit … there is no reason not to quickly use atleast a few others from that kit… which removes much of the fun right now for me….
I highly doubt the usefullness of most utillity skills, it feels very flawed to me with everyone using the same few utillity skills in their builds…
What gear should i wear to be effective enough in worldcontent both solo as well as in events…
Which eassily allows me to switch traits, skills as wel as weapons, and still be relativel happy in most fights…
Looking for
-acceptable dps both power as well as conditions
-acceptable survivabillity
-acceptable healing
Whats the middle of the road gear setup…
