But remember, you do play a role if the game does start to die, because you were the one that wanted to exclude people, and told them to get out if they didn’t like it.

+1 Interesting that not even the forum specialist can see the danger of this “gtfo if you can’t hang” attitude that a lot of the consistent posters in the sub spew.

Thank you for clearly showing the problem here, see, anyone that wants to raid, has to deal with 9 other entitled jerks to do the content. See the problem now?

Or they could find like-minded people of which there seem to be plenty of on these forums and play with them instead? (Pretty obvious why they don’t want to do that but that’s a different matter).

If your “problem” is group content then MMO’s aren’t the genre for you, there are plenty of single player games where you don’t have to interact with anyone. Expecting an MMO to relinquish its group content is amongst the dumbest things you’ve said.

No – they can’t. Do you know why? Because somehow in the way he sees it if an inexperienced or new player wants to do the content I’m doing I’m somehow obligated to take him along and help and teach him.

In his confusion he’s mistaken me for a tutorial system that Anet never made. Because my playtime, satisfaction or enjoyment of the game don’t matter – what matters is that “new players get into raids lel”.

The raids are there – you can open them anytime.
The LFG tool is there – you’re free to use it.
The forums are here – you can look for a guild ( or use reddit, or google).

You have the tools to fix your problem – but do it yourself – don’t expect others to.

Wow … message received. I will continue to stay away from raids.

You don’t have to stay away from raids out-right. Just be sure to not join groups that are grouping for an experienced-only kill — unless you reach a point you are experienced yourself. You can do this by forming your own practice/teaching/learning runs, or joining a guild that is specialized towards such things.

Just try to think in their shoes; imagine that you are only really rewarded for beating something challenging, and need 9 other people to help you do it. You only have a couple hours to get it done, and success depends entirely on the competency of your group. So you post in lfg for people who can be on “your level” and beat the boss in 1-6ish tries. However, despite posting for those experienced, people join you who may not even know all the mechanics. You really don’t have the time to explain how everything works — you advertised for a group that could hit the ground running. So you kick that person or whatnot, and are called out for being “an elitist jerk.”

That is not to say there are not elitist jerks out there, but the problem is a two-way street.

I appreciate your response and I do not join such groups. But I simply don’t have time for this kind of vitriol, so I will opt to stay away.

That you feel the need to give a “motivational” post speaks volumes about HoT and its effect on gw2.

No it doesn’t. It speaks to the group of people on this forum. I see plenty of people in HoT zones and play through the meta’s all the time. HP trains, meta organization, etc. Are all of these people masochists? There certainly are those who are dissatisfied with HoT. But there are likely just as many who enjoy it. (myself included)

I didn’t see this subject addressed yet so I apologize if I missed the thread on it.

It’s quite obvious that putting NPC’s next to the bank in LA means they are going to be heard A LOT! You guys know this so their location was obviously planned… Now I have no problem with gay NPC’s in this game….. However I do have a problem with you using “children” to push your politics as though it is just an innocent game the children are playing. If you want to use adults to have this type of conversation then so be it but using children is just tasteless. I’m sure plenty of people will disagree with me… not everyone believes in God and that’s fine but many people do, so how about let’s play neutral and leave stuff like this out of the game completely… thank you for caring. Respect is a two-way street.

Leaving such things out of the game completely is a very strange definition of “neutral”.

IGN Tweet & Core Game = F2P - what does this mean? [unconfirmed]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

It’s not just F2P that is the issue with vets. There is also bugs that haven’t been fixed in years, dungeons never even touched, and Anet not even knowing their own playerbase and its wants to add to the list

All of which will be addressed on Saturday: A portion of the population wanted raids, we’re getting raids. The population didn’t want a gear treadmill, and we’re not getting one. The list goes on, but I don’t want to waste too much time since, judging by your post history, you suffer from a bit of a persecution complex. Good luck with that.

Is this why they put in that new clause in the ToS to usher this in? If so, consider me gone. If I am going to pay a sub, I would play wow instead.

Tragedies happen everyday you can relate any tragedy to video game content. It’s just that the media decided to cover the plane tragedy extensively that everyone knows about it. I don’t know how you people get by in your daily lives if something that lasts a day in a video game provokes anger out of you

When 9/11 happened, Konami reworked the entire ending sequence of Metal Gear Solid 2 to avoid references to the Twin Towers.

A week after a mass murder by airplane, Anet could have not had an April fools where you get victory music for crashing and dying.

Timing is a key part of comedy, but it seems Anet have no understanding of timing, nor tact.

A lot of their white knights here on the forums appear to have no understanding of empathy either.

Comedy is Tragedy and Timing. People using real life tragedy as a means of justifying their annoyance at their broken immersion is the truly despicable thing being expressed in these forums.

I am at a total loss as to why the “dungeoneers” representing in here find it necessary to insult other aspects of the game and in so doing the players that enjoy those aspects. Are you attempting to build your case? I have read many posts where people complain about the elitism that dungeons and fractals seem to breed. I was not convinced that this existed since I had my fill of the dungeons in GW2 long ago. Reading some of these responses, and to a certain extent, the OP (as well as other, related threads), I can see where this impression comes from. Why solidify the negative image some dungeon runners seem to have manifested by crying about how OW is just “spamming 11111111” et al? Where is the community in that kind of attitude? It’s no wonder some new folks shy away from doing dungeons. Pontificating about how you’ve “mastered” “difficult” content does not make you better than those who don’t enjoy the content that you do. If you want to pigeon hole yourself into one tiny aspect of what this game has to offer overall then go right ahead and do it. But do at least attempt to refrain from chest beating and posturing. Each of us have our likes and dislikes. None is more correct than the other and stating a preference really amounts to, well, nothing. To have to resort to hyperbole, name calling, minimizing etc. illustrates desperation more than it does validity.

Frankly, I am looking very forward to HoT. I really like the approach they’ve taken in SW and DT. I hope they do try some different things and I respect that they have the guts to do it, even though there are a percentage of players out there who can’t think outside the “5-10 man instanced raid” box. I like the idea of profound and epic dangers in the open world as opposed to crawling through some dank hidden space somewhere (though I do enjoy that as well) and I want to see Anet succeed at creating that kind of OW intensity. I will keep my mind open. I don’t care at all if there aren’t new dungeons or fractals. I am a paying customer and player, just like all of you.

Feedback on HoT Stress Test [merged]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: munki.6402

munki.6402

My overall impressions of the Beta was good. Going in, I appreciated that it was a Stress Test, so I expected frame rate issues, lag, disconnects, etc. I didn’t disconnect once. No lag. There were some graphics issues, but again, this is a beta. Overall it was pretty smooth.

I had a great time during every Wyvern fight. It could stand to be more difficult. It was the Revenant party I expected it to be, and we simply shouldn’t have been able to take it down the way we did. But I have little doubt this will be addressed. In my efforts to flank the Wyvern, I ended up on it’s wing several times. It didn’t seem to register that I was standing on it as it took off several times and really had no affect on me. Not that I needed Another thing to avoid charring me to a crisp, or blasting me across the platform, but I certainly shouldn’t be able to stand on a moving wing.

The Revenant was really interesting, but it felt clunky (and no stun breaks?). I also felt as if I were strategically mashing a lot since there was little time to just stop for a bit to have a look at the skills. This was also a fault of mine, since I wanted to jump in and play, so I will look more closely in this evenings test.

The starting zone was really small and really chaotic. I realize it is supposed to be chaotic and I enjoyed that aspect, but it felt too small.

This is the first time I have had the opportunity to join in a beta and I had a really great time. I also got some ridiculous screenies. It really didn’t surprise me that the content was what we have seen demo’d. As such, I did my best to simply play and I was able to do exactly that. I realize there is a lot of fine-tuning left to do and based on this experience I am looking very forward to more of what HoT has in store.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

whats the point of that stupid statement? did you even read yourself?
lots of players that ask for new dungeons dont even care about old ones, cause they ran each path of each dungeons tons of time and got bored
majority of players are playing content that is new. if we had new dungeons, people would play them. simple as that. and dont give aetherpath or fotm as example. they involve rng which is just a bad attempt at trying to keep ppl repeat content 73280572357209times

I found his statement legitimate. Just because you don’t doesn’t mean anything. You use “lots of players” and “majority”. Do you have the metrics? Care to share them with us? This thread would be over and done if you do. I share Brother Grimm’s opinion and said as much on the first, or second page of this thread. I wouldn’t play new dungeons. I am not interested in that type of content. I won’t pretend that I represent any percentage of the player base, but considering where Anets resources have gone since launch, I agree that it’s reasonable to postulate they will not be making new dungeons. “Simple as that”

Hopefully they address some of it. ArenaNet tend to focus on open-world, large group content with people you don’t know. It’s shopping mall content. you go to a place where there are a lot of people an look at what they are wearing and there isn’t really any meaningful social activity there.

Organized, small party group content has gone on the back burner for sure and it’s a shame because the dungeons and fractals in this game are a lot of fun. I would liken this content to having a small dinner party. People talk, there is a structure to it and a purpose. It’s a lot of fun for smaller guilds as well. It’s something that you can all do together that isn’t running around with 50 other people being rude and childish in map chat.

This response is based entirely on Your experience. I have completely the opposite experience, and I am in a small guild of folks I know in rl. Frankly, I find open world far more fun. Dungeons feel like a job. That is my opinion. As such, I play in open world. I find childishness there, in Dungeons, PvP, and WvW. This is the internet after all. You have a preference and your opinion is skewed toward that preference. Quite natural. But it is just your opinion. Anet have the metrics. The direction they’re going would indicate that dungeons simply are not a priority and that open world is where the bulk of players are.

Fixed that for you. I will keep playing because I will likely not burn through the content that quickly. I will keep playing because I have many friends who enjoy playing. I will keep playing because I thoroughly enjoy this game. I can appreciate that you might feel slighted by the lack of Dungeons amongst the new features in the xpac, but do not assume that Everyone devotes the time you do to playing, or even has that time. And do not assume that everyone expects a “typical” mmo xpac. One of my favorite aspects of GW2 is that it at least attempts not to be typical. If I wanted typical, I would play other games.

Success rate of silverwastes?

I have not done it in a while and decided to start doing sw again, all recent attempts I have participated in the majority have been failures, both in defending keeps, the breach and also vinewrath.

When I last did it was a few weeks after the end of season 2 when I was looking for my carapace chest piece and everyone seemed to know what was going on and majority of maps were wins, now it’s pretty hit and miss and seemingly a waste of time especially if I put in time to bring keeps to beach from 60% to have the whole thing fail.

How has your recent SW experience been?

My SW Experience has been outstanding. I have had almost the complete opposite experience you have, but I have learned how to spot maps that might perform poorly. LFG something in the early stages. Many post looking to start maps and include completion/fort percentages in the description. At this point I am enjoying a 90% success rate, no exaggeration. That 10% represents failing breaches. That seems to be happening more and more often. Beyond that, I have been shamelessly farming the kitten out of SW for over a month now and I’m having a great time. I do dailies, but other than that I’m in the Silverwastes.

Yes but many of those posts are still uninformed and completely inconsiderate of the sheer volume of research and information ArenaNet has that we do not. And many of those posters, while they think they have good intentions, can’t even see that all they are really doing is demanding things be their way, rather than the way that might be best for everybody, which is often not clear to the players.

The biggest problem people consistently have with this game is setting their own expectations too high, and that’s not ArenaNet’s fault. That’s just those players’ inability to accept less than what they’ve come to think they deserve, or to understand how inconsequential all of this is compared to reality. At the end of the day, it’s just a video game, it’s purpose is purely for entertainment, so why are there so many people pouring out their hearts in the name of “trying to make it better” instead of just enjoying what it is? There are a hundred million other things you can do on the Internet. If GW2 doesn’t scratch all your itches, you’re welcome to fill that void with other things, too.

+1 Very, Very well said.

You won’t subject other people to these “deep flaws” you force yourself to suffer because of your alleged borderline unconditional love for the game, yet you’ll go to the extent of actually paying their way in? So which is it? Are you paying peoples way in so you can steer them away afterword?

I, too, am embarrassed enough about bringing more new players to the game. The traits are, by far, the most abysmal part of the current play experience, though the NPE doesn’t help with its relatively insulting approach that still does not clarify enough about the game.

I’ve had to steer other people away as well, which is sad, because I bought the way in for two of my friends so they could try the game.

Embarrassed? Seriously? Is it really That bad? You’ve steered people away, yet here you are at the forums offering your two cents? It’s just a kittening game. If you’re a new player, playing without traits really shouldn’t make any difference at all. For vets making alts, yes, lack of traits is pretty annoying, but for a new player the NPE puts you through your paces and prepares you instead of being bludgeoned with all sorts of different abilities and strategically mashing the keyboard once you reach more difficult content. If you Told new players it would suck because they don’t have access to traits right away, then they’ll believe it sucks. As was mentioned by someone earlier, mmo’s are about community. Help people understand and make some friends while you’re out there slaughtering foes. Sounds like a lot more fun than sitting around bitterly “steering people away” from the game. Get over yourself.

From what I understand one of the reasons the NPE was put in place was to teach people the basic mechanics of the game. Before the NPE, there were a lot of complaints about people leveling and simply not understanding the basics of combat in GW2 (blasting fields, for instance). While the NPE does a lot of hand-holding, getting started is far more informative than before its advent. Yet another kitten ed if you do, kitten ed if you don’t for Anet. I would be very curious to know if any vets in here complaining about the NPE were amongst those complaining about players not knowing the basics of GW2. Considering the “sky is falling” nature of this forum, I would not be at all surprised.

For the new folks: Take some time to learn the game. The learning curve in GW2 is large. The NPE might be a bit of a slog, but it does teach you the ins and outs and could much improve your leveling experience.

I will say that I wouldn’t mind an option to toggle it on and off for us vets making alts.

"No-grind philosophy"

At the time when ascended gear was added to the game, there were a whole lot of posts about people leaving because they had nothing to do. The only way Anet could have added something to do in a timely manner, was to add something time gated that helped people stay in game longer toward that goal. I didn’t like it but I got why they did it. The forums were a zoo. Every day there were posts about people who ran out of stuff to do. Anet made a decision based on forum posts. Yet you dislike their solution.

The solution of providing more and more content wasn’t an option because the content your’e talking about takes too much time to implement if they needed to head off what was quickly becoming a stampede.

But more to the point. we hardly see grind complaints, UNTIL Anet brings up the words no grind. And then we get threads like this.

Before this thread, I think you could count on one hand the number of times a month that anyone said they had a problem with the game being grindy.

This isn’t some big huge thing that huge numbers of people are complaining about. This is a pet peeve of a small percentage of the population who got riled up because Anet used the word grind and said the game wasn’t grindy. If that hadn’t happened, this thread wouldn’t even exist.

^This, this, THIS.
