Hey fellow thieves,
A PvE player here that lately has been doing some ranked PvP with hopes of getting the Elite wings skin, I have a question that really bothers me lately.
I started off doing ranked PvP this season, therefore I started from the very bottom. Last night I secured the first tier of Sapphire and throughout the journey I’ve had quite a couple of people telling me in /w and /s that playing thief is cancer and I’m literally the worst.
I know thieves are annoying with our constant dazes, stealth and evades but why no one ever flames the Dragonhunters for example? I mean, for me the DH right now is the biggest crap I could face in PvP – they just drop their kitten ed traps in the middle of the point and there’s barely anything else they have to do but to pull you in them. My experience so far, and this might be solely based on the fact that I’m a PvP newb, has been beyond frustrating with some particular builds, especially DH.
So, why do we get so much hate when (in my opinion) there are so many more annoying builds? :c
As a pve’er getting to sapphire pretty easy this season is a decent accomplishment. Basically people hate thieves b/c the good ones are seriously annoying and while not op can seem op by pro thieves. But people also hate thieves b/c sadly there are so many horrible thieves. Even Dh which is considered the worst class in the game currently can eat thieves who are unprepared.
Outside of the 2 gimmicky builds currently (condi daggers) and power staff w/ bound they aren’t really that great currently and the gimmicks are only good against people unfamiliar with them. D/P +SB power is still the go to build as far as decapping and +1 just realize it largely depends on your team if they can teamfight without you and also know how to rotate caps.
I do pretty well on my alt accounts that don’t have HoT with Deadly Arts, Tricks and the 3rd being preference. (above user went shadow arts for survivability but without daredevil survival is already not great), so I tend to go Crit or Acro instead. Your traits should be mug (interrupt on steal), thrill of the crime (just amazing buffs on steal and rip enemy boons) And either daze on steal or confusion on steal. I usually go daze and use confusion if a condi varient like tricks/acro.
Running D/P main thing is use 3 to get your initial damage and with elite venom, then steal to daze their heal especially ones that block like guardian. You can blind them with #5, and or hs into it for stealth → backstab. Though careful this season some have gimmicky builds like warrior that ignores the blind, and dragonhunter will just lay traps anyways so be super careful about this.
Most people will say go shortbow offhand and they would be right for most teams, to decap far and quickly get back to your team to +1 weakened enemies.
However if you’re looking for something easy and effecting P/P is seriously underrated this season. Currently abusing it and getting laughed at by pugs but then destroying them all. Unload does great burst and might and #2 has a nice immobolize snare. Just be super careful if versing eles or scrappers as they reflect projectiles easily and u will kill yourself asap with unload spam. However it destroys necros not in shroud, and even eles who are distracted since they have low health pools. Also great against revs and thieves and warriors trying to escape.
With this build you actually counter other power builds great. Any enemy that buffs themselves like power warrior, ranger or rev just buffs u with steal, just realize power warrior and ranger aren’t really played this season.
Utility wise I highly reccomend shadowstep b/c of the current condi meta and also for positioning and retreating, especially if you decide to not use shortbow but its still great even if u do use it. The blind signet, the signet that gives prec and cures conditions, shadow refuge, blinding powder, are all decent core non HoT skills to consider. Heck I’ve destroyed DH with smokescreen and p/p unload b4 b/c they got lazy and just relied on traps and bow. As just kind of a general go to I would use blinding powder for the emergency stealth/blind and can stealth and move out of cleave, the movement speed signet, and shadowstep and change as needed.
Definitely with a disadvantage without daredevil and its dash, bound, or lotus but if you play good you can still be a decent pvper especially lower leagues or unranked.
Looks fun, definitely no room for error without sb and just melee.
Random suggestion maybe swap out the elite for the venom elite, b/c you barely even used it in the video.
You know you’re in trouble when…. you have 2 dh on your team and the enemy has 2 scrapper and 1 ele. You suggest switching and they say that’s all they know how to play.
I’m currently running out something i threw together. Dagger/dagger. Deadly Arts, Trickery, Daredevil.
Dagger training (poisons), potent poison, uncatchable (caltraps) bewilding ambush (confusion stacks) and lotus training. With nightmare rune.
Could use some build suggestions? Using elite venom and poison venom, dodge heal, shadowstep, and signet that cures condis and refills endurance.
Replace the venom with Bandits defense for a Stun break/block that gives endurance, and swap withdraw with Channeled Vigor if you want even more endurance regen, while using the Brawler’s Tenacity trait.
I did end up playing this a good bit yesterday and while ok doesn’t seem op at all. If anything its still a scrapper, necro, ele, warrior world.
So just did a match and the guy was dc forever at the start of the match. (though i guess under a minute or it bugged)
He then dc’s again later near the end of the match for a long time too (felt like at least another 30+ seconds)
And we still lost a pip.
This is ridiculous.
Ele has crappy teammates and heals them, ele is balanced. Ele has good players and heals them, nerf ele so op! It all depends if his teammates are somewhat decent or not. Keeping newbie teammates alive who don’t play their class well is still going to lose the fight. If anything that means less pressure on the opposing team so they can focus ele better or pick up the newbie dps that overextend
I reached t4 legendary because I refuse to throw my games and keep trying to queue (while watching movies of course). I don’t think I will get any match again this season bcoz of the 15 pips range limitation.
Yesterday I tried to queue for around 6 hours without any match. So I guess that puts the final nail in the coffin.
They are all in sapphire still. Either b/c of the 50/50 ratio or they just don’t care to level b/c no reward. Either way it sucks for sapphire lol
I love how these threads keep getting split into both a staff and a dual dagger sub thread.
Tested both yesterday a lot, neither are op. Staff is decent at teamfights where thief is usually horrible and condi dag is very gimmicky but slow to kill.
Still think the normal d/p +sb thief with dash decapping is way better team wise.
ps: kept getting dragon hunters in my group with 10 points in game yelling at the thief(s) for the loss, but they wouldn’t switch to a different character when dh are in bad shape and especially when I vs’ed 2 scapper and an ele. I’m like don’t blame the thief play a decent class and reroll especially when 3/5 of their team is a direct counter to u ^^
This is slightly above average again, worst players blame the thief still, all is how it should be. Nothing has changed.
Thieves are squishy but do good damage. One of those high risk high rewards playstyles.
Ignore the OP screams on the forums. They got buffed and nerfed elsewhere, were laughed at during the beginning of the season and now respected at the end (but with the obvious nerf them cries)
A good thief is a great ally and a bad thief is just horrible.
just press 3 and win all the way.
oh please, not everyone plays condi d/d and that build is a joke in higher divisions
climb out of amber, then complain, ty
I know a guy in diamond with that build and he is still laughing all the way.
How do you just spam 3? it makes u roll backwards you can’t just spam it.
So what build is everyone crying about? Death Blossom daggers condi or power staff?
Traits?
Plz fix this one, they press 3 and only need to spam that skill with a bit of dodging in between killing entire teams, because they are abusing evading stuff like mad.
I have purposely not use this build on my thief, because i already found it stupid and no need for any skill to use it.
But its now getting to the point that it really really needs a nerf,
To make it more clear, they burst you with not only power dps, but also condi bursting, they can non stop evade and dont need invisibility and they have non stop cleanse.
The only way to stop it wich is very hard to do, because of the jumping spam to lock them down and finish directly or else its jumping fest all over.
This should be nerfed, i mean seeing complete teams also die because of this build, think about it if you have a team full of those thieves, they can litterly and easily beat everything.
Just curious how do they spam 3? since it causes u to roll backwards you can’t really spam it for a “burst”
Unless I am missing something? And condi burst too? pretty confused what you’re talking about.
So just curious whats the new build? i’ve heard both staff and condi double daggers.
The build everyone was raging about on the forums with the perma evade, i think its the daggers.
p/p is fine I used it previous seasons to counter certain classes. You can spam immobolize on a reaper in shroud and its going nowhere. Some other classes too.
bump. Anyone know?
Just curious as to what the new build is? I’ve ran d/p power for a long time and bored with it.
I’ve heard staff, I’ve heard d/d (both as daredevil and dual daggers b/c they mention death blossom) and I’ve heard condis, and a few weeks ago all the pro thieves said dash and now people are saying the damaging dodge instead so its all pretty confusing.
So what is the build? its not on metabattle. And I’ve heard conflicting information, some saying staff, some saying double daggers, and some saying conditions.
Traits too would be nice.
I’ve heard staff, double daggers, condi, non condi, getting confused.
Just glad to hear about a good non metabattle build for once.
Thieves are suddenly decent and everyone screams oh no. Warrior is op and warriors are like good finally. (as well they should be)
Necro’s have crazy condi bomb, engis are op this season, tempest, chrono, and dh op previous seasons.
But suddenly thieves are good, using a creative NON metabattle build mind you that would get laughed at by pugs at the start of the season, and suddenly everyone QQ’s.
All these people need to stop crying. I think its awesome someone got creative.
In the beginning of the season you would have been laughed at as a condi thief, or if you ran anything but d/p power. Also I experimented with it and even “experts” on here swore up and down to use dash > the damaging dodge.
Congrats a build not on metabattle did well.
bump, still need help.
Also I know thieves are meant to +1 and decap, but are there any classes they are really good at 1v1? (I know necro if before they have life force and u have condi cleanse, and possibly power shiro if not revealed, maybe mes or ele if they are bad?)
Too much AOE cc, too many AOE conditions, too many brainless invincible specs. Even thieves are invincible now, the only class that ever took actual skill to play.
Game is a joke.
Wrong, bad thieves don’t know positioning or try to 1v1 when they can’t. Or when to kite then 1v1. Bad thieves also don’t bring condi cleanse or try to +1 i team fights but really end up getting cc and condi bombed b/c of positioning. Or don’t read patch notes and still try to hs spam.
So still takes some skill. Still see lots of horrible thieves in game.
There is this dodge-spamming thief though. IMO they only need to learn rotation, in teamfight “dodge dodge vault vault dodge vault block block block”
Every pro thief i’ve talked to recommends dash over vault for the decapping. Though I do like vault too.
Also thieves are extremely vulnerable to conditions and its a condition meta. Even traited and utility slots its meh at best. Best hope is decent team and actually be able to +1
Hello Internet,
For quite some time I’ve thought the game would be significantly better if players had a fourth utility slot, reasoning to follow. This is a seemingly easy to incorporate into the current GW2 system. But for any change to happen there needs to be a reason, right? That’s is what separates a frivolous change from one with value.
Ok, little backstory. When I started playing GW2 like most of you Anets belief was that every class could fill a roll, regardless of the differences that each class offers to each roll. Now… this is a ridiculously naive philosophy because in reality the differences of each skill depending on class will create a “tier list”. Example, Tempest are by far the best healing support in the game. This isn’t up for discussion, just watch any Pro-League match.
Now this isn’t because Ele’s are too strong (well… they are pretty boosted. but its nice to have a real healer in the game given the other factors in the game.. yata yata yata), it’s because their kit and abilities are the best suited for the job. Which is a good thing, I’m happy the games direction has finally admitted that some classes can be better than others in regards to specific need.
To bring this back to my request, a 4th utility slot. Because of the unique way classes perform different actions when you pick a class there are some skills that are often a requirement. Example, if you pick mesmer, you’re gonna bring portal. The skill offers a huge impact on matches if used well, and is unique to the class.
This is great, imo classes should have unique factors that are why you pick them in the first place. But because of the current number of slots it can be a limiting factor as well.
Part of why GW2 has such a stale meta is because utility skills make a huge impact on how traits tie together and when 1-2 of your 3 slots are spoken for you don’t get to branch out and combine different strengths well.
Having 4 utility slots as opposed to 3 would allow well rounded builds more flexibility to shift with the meta and will open up possibilities for numerous new builds moving forward.
I would be open to a 4th utility skill, just for more options. Like you stated some skills are such a staple for the class its basically mandatory and takes up so much room.
However before that and trying to balance it, i would prefer they balance what they already have better.
Make elite specializations balanced with other specs. When announced anet said elite specs weren’t meant to be “stronger” than current specs, just a new way to play the class.
Maybe balance other skills to be able to compete with said staple utility skills. Imagine if mesmer had 5 or 10 other choices that were just as good as portal. Would be insanely op right? Not if all classes had the same opportunity for op skills. This way when choosing utility skills it would actually be a “hard choice.” B/c you would strongly have to factor in what you get vs what you lose (similar idea to choosing an elite skill, assuming elite skills were balanced)
More diversity, especially in weapons. And adding more skills in general. GW1 had a ton of diversity b/c it had hundreds of skills, and 2ndary professions. I get its a different game different beast with different mechanics, but in the expansions most classes got what 1 new weapon, and just a very small handful of new skills many are unused. Now imagine they added say 10 skills per class and 2 weapons with new skills, one could have a ton of diversity. Sure they would always be fotm builds, but say certain new skills countered certain things one would have a lot more options.
I must say the current season is the worst season so far. Instead of long loss and win streak it is like W W L L W L W L W L WW L L etc. You never get any streaks because it is always 50/50 win rate.
It also doesnt make sense that L L L W W W is worth more than W L W L W L. Completly arbritary.
It seems other people have the same problem, because I keep meeting other people who were legendary in s1 and/or s2 and now stuck in W/L cycle in saphire, too. Several people from friendlist also have the same problem.
If you make us 50/50 win rate again like in season 1 at least give us the -3 to +3 pip system back, because this is utter garbage.
I agree. I loved season 1, liked season 2 less, and hate season 3.
Just have seen a lot of primordial legends and s2 legends in sapphire recently. I guess skill doesn’t matter if there’s a premade 50/50 w/l ratio.
Or… maybe… they didn’t belong at legendary in the first place.
This season has good matchmaking compared the steamroll version of season 2 and the true 50/50 system of season 1.
This maybe true especially with the MMR streaks and op reaper and op dh and op tempest, of the previous seasons.
The build that I’ve seen work 9 out of 10 times is the staff perma evade build. It’s broken in it’s own way. It may not be as quick as D/P but in a 1v1 it’s harder to deal with. Guaranteed to beat my necro more often than not.
link?
I may get trolled for this but I found dash and double pistol solves a lot of pvp problems. Not as my main weapon but its very effective against certain classes.
By the way what am I looking for to stop the push pull trick? It’s quite irritating when their are two of the DH’s together.
The push trick is from one of their longbow skills and can be dodged.
The pull trick is from their passive burn that when activated hurls a spear at you, then can be activated again to pull you, which can also be dodged (and then they lose their passive burn on every 5 attacks till its recharged)
Yes with 2 dh that would be a lot to dodge and very hard to do. Reflects help and so do teammates with reflects, as well as stability.
Dash all the way. It makes decaps and disengaging so much easier. I also prefer staff because I feel it synergizes well with Dash. Staff is also a lot more powerful. AA is more powerful then daggers. Staff 2 pre casted with steal is simply deadly. Always make sure you land it. Staff 3 I never really use. Staff 4, which was already really good before the buff, is amazing. Blinds the opponent and gives them vulnerability. And then we have vault. Solid gap closer, awesome damage, can be used to run away in a tight situation, great to just spam when you’ve down an opponent and has what I think makes vault so powerful, evade frames.
As for P/P I’d just avoid. In low levels, it’s a noob stomper but againts high level players, it’s easily counter able and predictable. You’re better off with SB and moving to places.
Is staff really that good? Its not meta on metabattles (which I only take with a grain of salt, but d/p has been op for a long time now) It does annoy me how they nerfed hs. I heard Pistol 4 is amazing bc of pus impact spam but idk, I would usually smokescreen and auto attack or smokescreen, hs or leap dodge, then backstab. Which takes a lot of setup. So i would be open to a new method.
Here’s an idea, instead of 1 backpack, which a lot of people have, how about adding a ton of new items like say equivalent to all the weapons or armors from dungeons? That would add a ton of pvp interest and give a reason for people who already have a backpack to come back. Even if it wasn’t that much “prestigious” people would still want new cool stuff.
Won’t ever happen, since HoT introduced hardly any new skins, even in pve, but it would definitely work.
Where does all of this misinformation come from? Not saying yours is wrong I have no idea, just if so many others are wrong why are so many saying this? The higher powers need to be more clear and address this stuff so clear up any confusion if so.
It’s called confirmation bias.
Some players can’t wrap their head around the concept that they’re being carried way more by their high MMR (which hasn’t been reset since its introduction, so even if you stopped playing 1 year ago and came back now, you’d be helped by the match maker because of your old MMR) than by their actual skill. Denial of facts is a true power of nature, anyone who believes that winning 70%+ is purely or mostly skill related is a fool (unless you’re, maybe, in the true top 1% of players). :>
Regarding facts: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/pvp/so-we-re-back-to-50-50-matches/6158614
TLDR: matchmaker still stacking teams, high MMR leads to a higher winrate no matter what (and it should really be the other way around in a truly competitive environment).
Thank you so much for this post. Its so true.
Seems legit to me. Even a pro player would struggle with 4 bad teammates. MMR carry ftw.
Metas are kittens. If you have a playstyle go with it. Build your own “meta”, play with it in unranked, test it, then go for ranked matches. Don’t force yourself in a playstyle that you don’t like, only because it is the meta of the moment. Create your own build and fight with it.
This is my rank after i build my own “meta” on y character “Looùrr”. Have faith in your build and play with it if you like it and you see that it works. First and first try it in unranked, then go ranked.
Have faith in yourself guys
(i go only solo queue btw :P )
Just curious what your weapons, stats and traits are? I’ve also seen teams with 2 dh do amazing which struck me as weird since they are supposed to be really bad this season. So metabattle sure isn’t everything.
Not a lot of people practice this rare skill.
Actually I can’t tell you the countless times I’ve seen idiots lose a match b/c they tried to stomp instead of just killing.
For instance, thief has 10% or less hp, warrior tries to stomp, thief blinks away, warrior tries to stomp again, thief cloaks, thief’s teammates kill warriors teammates, thief revives and the 2 of them kill warrior easy. Warrior blames his teammate for dying instead of accepting the fact that he screwed up, b/c if he had simply killed the thief with an attack his ally would have rallied.
I actually can’t even count the # of times I’ve seen this happen. Especially by warriors for some reason lol.
That’s why on my power shiro I almost always just use unstoppable odds and spam auto attack like crazy the downed player, can often kill them before they even get their downed skill, and if the enemy team tries to revive even better b/c of mass aoe cleave damage.
Just have seen a lot of primordial legends and s2 legends in sapphire recently. I guess skill doesn’t matter if there’s a premade 50/50 w/l ratio.
Theres just not much intense to play anymore. I already got my wings(never cared about them because i find them ugly anyway so i hide them) and lots of my friends already quit the game, so i have to soloq now, which is much less fun than playing with friends.
Anyway, yesterday i played a lot of matches for the first time since season 3, it ended up in a 17 wins streak. So where´s your “50/50 w/l ratio” mythos?
How many losses have you had?
The match making is, by ANet own admission aimed more at a 50/50 win chance. Sometimes a 50% chance is all you need to get a win. Sometimes it’s not. I’ve won 19 games out of 33. Yet only have 9 pips. It’s all about how your wins fall.
I’m currently at slightly over a 60/40 win/lose ratio. I got to ruby the last 2 seasons without pvp’ing that much. So this season I’m actually trying to be very active in pvp. But even then both emerald and sapphire have been extremely frustrating compared to past seasons. But I did enjoy s1 more than s2. But even with over a 60/40 win/lose ratio that’s still barely basically 50% on average, only really helps if you grind grind grind to eventually get a nice streak bonus. Thus when you combine the extreme dc rate (almost 1 every match on either team), the random horrible teams, the solo que vs the team ques, and the mmr hell, and now legends in sapphire its frustrating to the point of pulling your hair out. Not to mention that condi is meta and power builds lag far behind currently (scrapper is decent, shiro is good but gets shut down by cc and condi, and thief is decent again but hs got nerfed and while dash/sb = great decaps, also requires team to change strategy and not just go for home/mid all the time, which most pugs don’t know how to adopt a new strategy, and decapping far just doesn’t work if your mid keeps getting slaughtered b/c of #’s and especially if they have a mesmer with portal) So every match is basically a mirror match 1-2 necros, a ele, a druid or warrior or rev, a scrapper, and maybe a chrono or DD every now and then too. Normally a mirror match would be ok but with pre-determined winners its usually decided beforehand. Would be different if it was completely random thus each team would have a chance of having all bads, or all pros, or a few pros and a few horribles, thus truly balanced in a more fair way.
Do you prefer Dash or the dodge that does damage (and smokescreen, stealth attack)
Both are really good so just curious which do you use.
Also I know a lot of thieves use d/p and shortbow, and sb is for fast decaps especially far and rotating and getting back in time to +1) But does anyone ever use P/P as their 2ndary weapon? Just curious because I’ve had a lot of success with this, while unload is decently strong when not wanting to get in the middle of a team fight, but more importantly using skill 2 for immobilize especially against some classes like reaper that have limited mobility. When I use p/p I bring Dash so I can still decap fast still.
Alt accounts and start fresh?
If you play any class, target the Dragonhunter because they can’t escape.
lol. Yeah dragon hunters aren’t in a good place this season. But assuming they get buffed, just talking mechanics here. They do block frontal attacks and can have a pretty strong advantage in melee or range b/c of traps and longbow damage. (or did, again if they ever get balanced and become competitive again)
If you come back you shouldn’t be punished.
Now just b/c I can’t help myself “dishonor on you, dishonor on your cow. Dishonor on…” lol -Mushu
Look i played Gw1 arena and pve one thing that different in pvp from Gw2 is the dmg type and low health over there. No matter the skills names: Posion,Bleeding they where simple over there. The DMG type skills all there would add -5 or -10 health points in second you would lose up to 20 or more you would just health lost. That is the difference and Healer used to give you or any heals +5 to +15 or more points to regenerate to keep you from death. System was simple easy to work on now in GW2 we have poison and huge amount of periodic stuff.Balancing those is never going to work.Even if it does again Human factor cannot be put under calculation.Because combing classes skills and trait as team.Timing all to the full as team you will reach point of a fight when both sides will not be able to kill each other.
Just putting the example here what it looks like not taking any dmg:
https://youtu.be/K6YLdkGSmyIAnd it will last until time runs out in a arena fight.I think somebody pointed that in past out its buried deep in the forums. Then in GW1 the Arena was more Gladiator like you had Resurrection but most would not use.Rather out of sportsmanship way back in day people would not take those into arena pvp and play last man standing.Like true Gladiator fights old players demanded since day 1 in Gw2 that downed state should be removed and never got removed. There is loot to discussion about it and was more
intensively argued in past but players just moved on form the game.
Simple? If anything it was much more advanced. True you couldn’t jump or dodge roll but you had dual classes, literally hundreds of skills to chose from thus diversity. Now all you have is just 1 meta build per class that’s viable. Also not sure what most of your post is even talking about or addressing to my post? What does any of that have to do with team ques vs solo ques?
If you look at the forums I’m not alone. Almost every thread has people begging for solo que and team que to be split. (they can argue that would create longer que times if they want, but if they did more stuff to add interest to pvp that would solve that issue too)
I’ve seen a lot of people complain about new players not knowing pvp basics, myself included at times, stuff like map rotation, class mechanics etc. So I figure let’s make a threads of simple intro stuff, like what class to pick and who to target with that class.
I will start it off.
If you play a condi necro… Target a class with little condition cleanse, like a dragon hunter (especially if they don’t use smite condition or similiar utilities) Or target a thief without their precision signet or shadowstep.
If you play a power thief, target a necro who doesn’t have life force, target classes with lower hp that you can spike hard, target these new condi warriors (but be careful of their burst) and target Power Shiro Rev’s as you can steal their boons.
If you play power rev avoid condi enemies if possible, and stay near teammates for group utility. Spike thieves, engis, necros without life force, and as in team fights target the called targets. If an enemy goes down don’t try to F stomp if teammates nearby, either use glints elite to knock back or use Shiro elite to interrupt or my favorite #9 unstoppable odds auto attack cleave to get rid of all of them stacking on each other.
If you’re a dragonhunter target thieves and condi warriors. Also stay in teamfights when possible b/c of your traps aoe. Do not target Tempest Eles and Scrappers as they have a lot of reflects.
There’s my input lets keep it going. Especially from those who know other classes well.
If you’re a chronomancer target…
If you’re a tempest…
Etc etc
ps: obviously there are exceptions to every rule, and often its best to target a called target, but this should be a nice starting guide to new players who have no idea and usually just attack whoever is closest.

Of course there would be many ways to abuse this system, but sometimes you know from the start that you have no chance.
Many games are lost, because people THINK, they don’t have a chance …
Srsly, your “betting” idea is terrible and would just encourage people to intentionally throw games. It doesn’t matter, if you think, your chances to win are good or bad, you should always try to make the best out of it.
Agreed. I’ve seen plenty of games where we won but had a horrible start. People just had to get their acts together or play better as a team.
However often the start of a game also clearly shows who’s going to win. Both teams have 1 person cap home, rest go to mid, one team gets slaughtered. True some team comps are op together and if u split sides and rotate well it gets easier, but that takes a lot of skill for pugs and coordination which is unlikely most of the time. This is why so many give up b/c so often that first fight is a clear indicator of who wil win, especially with this mmr pre-determine who should win program that puts the good people on the same team.
Lots of scrubs in ruby and lots of decent players who were ruby and diamond before now stuck in lower tiers b/c of bad luck with pugs lol. fun times.
Stop playing solo friend.
This is an MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game). If you want to have fun play whatever you want, however you want. But if you wish to win, embrace the concepts, tactics, subtleties, and enjoy together with others in premade teams using voice chat. That is how you win in a multiplayer game.
Except I NEVER see any pvp guilds recruiting or even pugs forming teams. (which is weird to me anyways considering my past exp with mmos including gw1 and wow) usually you would see a ton of pvp guilds recruiting in pvp. Its the logical place to recruit.
Usually when there’s a problem in the game I often reflect back to my decade of playing gw1 because it was a fantastic game and often solves a lot of issues that we currently face.
People keep asking for solo que and team ques to be different as it definitely creates a strong unfair advantage for the premade team, as they can pre-plan team comps, switch classes if needed, and coordinate on mics. Now I heard that full premade teams won’t vs pugs (not sure what is true anymore with all the confusion and misinformation currently out there) But if it is true I also heard you can still have a duo or maybe a team just not a full team to vs a full pug team. Which still creates a huge unfair advantage.
Now I know its a different game, different beast, different codes, programming etc. But in pvp it had Random Arena and Team Arena and both had separate but equal gladiator titles. That way you never had a pug vs a team. They were 2 different game types and people enjoyed both of them for different reasons.
Besides the whole solo que vs team que, gw1 also had other options to add interest to pvp that gw2 doesn’t come close to. It had for starters guild vs guild battles! (hence the name guild wars…lol), heroes arena (elite high end pvp for rank emotes and prestige), random arena, solo arena, Alliance Battles (casual friendly pvp), Fort Aspenwood and Jade Quarry pvp matches (unique pvp games also pretty casual and fun) Granted AB, FA, and JQ weren’t released till factions (the 2nd expansion) It still had a ton of options for pvp, which added a ton of interest for pvp. And with casual friendly pvp games it was a good place for pve’ers and new players to learn and actually enjoy.
Compare that to what we currently have which is just ranked, unranked, and wvw. Even unranked while casual friendly doesn’t compare to the casual gw1 pvp games b/c they were different. Something unique. Since ranked and unranked are the same it would eventually get boring for a casual who only has a mild interest.
Since this is the 2nd expansion I think its about time we have solo ques and team ques, maybe some new pvp game types for casual fun and for high end gamers, and of course add some GUILD WARS to guild wars 2. This will create a lot more interest than trying to make it an esport ever will.
Recognizing you are on a bad team doesn’t change the fact that you are on a bad team, and screwed lol.
There should be away to “bet” on a game. When you start, you bet on whether you win or not. If you bet on a win you get the pip as usual, but if you bet on a loss, you gain or lose nothing.
Of course there would be many ways to abuse this system, but sometimes you know from the start that you have no chance.
Or instead of using a complicated algorithm to pre-determine who will most likely win by putting the better people on the same team, just make it completely random with people on the same bracket of progression. Yeah sometimes you may get a team of not so great players who grinded and other times great players who are just now pvp’ing at lower brackets, but you would also have several matches were both teams should have a mix of both great and bad players so either one has a decent shot.
That and stop mixing solo que and team que. GW1 had random arena and team arena and completely solved the problem. That and fix the lag and dc’s server side bc even people with good pc’s and internet are being effected.
I just wish the people who dc for a long time, would just stay dc so we don’t lose a pip. Literally lost a game earlier we had a decent lead in b/c a guy dc’ed almost a minute. If it was a minute it would have been ok.
Lots of scrubs in ruby and lots of decent players who were ruby and diamond before now stuck in lower tiers b/c of bad luck with pugs lol. fun times.
