I always see the “make the Guild Hall Upgrades scale with the number of members the guild has” FIX. What can stop me from kicking all my guild members, get the mats i need from them, get the upgrade and then invite them again…?!

It might be hard for small guilds to do stuff…but as many people said if you create a guild and you are 2-3 members…let’s be honest, how can you expect to do any content with that guild?
I am a guild leader since 14 november 2013 we had many members now we don’t …let’s say 10-15 daily online members, that is a small guild, yet we don’t complain about the upgrades and we work hard to get our amazing guild hall in a nice shape.
We got all the buildings (tents for now) available and many of the upgrades.
And we are working constantly on it.

They could base it on the max guild roster size. You know the guy you gotta pay to increase your guild member cap? That. If your are a first level guild with the lowest member cap your upgrades are cheaper. The higher your member cap the more you pay. Anet can reset all guilds member caps to the lowest possible for their guild and refund the cost to the guild leader as a one time courtesy.

Hm… three things that I foresee this would affect:

1) if the guild’s cap was cut, the guild members would also have to be cut (temporarily). Building up a lost build roster could cause havoc. All those previously happy people would come to the forum and flame us.
2) big guilds who have already farmed everything and worked very hard would suddenly find that their resources were spent on nothing. More flamers.
3) guilds that want to be big wouldn’t want to have to pay tons simply to upgrade things that small guilds can upgrade for cheap. They would keep the roster empty or at the lowest cap until all the upgrades have been bought, and then bring people back. All the stranded members would understand the advantage and would donate to their guild to progress it. The same issue would still stand, because those guilds would have access to so many resources/income streams that smaller guilds don’t.

But something that would make sense: adding small guild halls for small guilds. Services could be smaller (except WvW buffs) and more affordable for small guilds. Every guild wants a place to call home! And I personally feel that the guild halls are too insanely massive – unless, of course, they are brimming with members who hang out there regularly. Again, small guilds need smaller places. I want a hobbit hole. Or maybe a little old-Ascalon keep.

(Guild Wars 1 guild hall vendor quote: “Truly, what guild can call itself a guild without an island of its own? Come with me. I can take you on a tour of each island, and you can choose which you like the best.”)

I still just vote that contributions to guilds be based on the individual… if you want guild services you contribute X amount, regardless of guild size. Complete eliminates the complexity and makes everyone accountable. The freeloaders won’t like it… but that shouldn’t be a surprise.

Wait… do you mean handicap the guild until everyone has logged in and contributed? Or that each individual has to pay to access something that already exists in a guild?

If it’s the former, I can’t say that sounds great to me.

If it’s the latter, it feels like a pure resource sink. If the guild already owns something, the only money/resource transfers that should happen (if at all) should be channeled directly to the guild leader or the people who originally unlocked it. Having everyone unlock some random vendor who is standing there anyways is just strange. It’d be like everyone had their own separate guild rather than being part of a single guild. Plus, it encourages people not to work together and to hoard their things – for future updates if nothing else. =/

more like oh you made this tavern that only holds 25 people and your 26 now here is the materials you need to upgrade it to hold up to 50 people before you can use it again.

Most guild would just kick nr26 then i guess

Edit
Oh who am I kidding we would have people start threads like wer 27 people why do we have to pay as much kitten people this is unfair.
Untill anet made it scale in single digits.
And then people would complain what 1 more player is this much materials outrageous Nerf please.

Yeah, some things are very tricky to balance…

I know I keep saying it like… everywhere, but I still feel like having different sizes of guild halls, with accordingly-scaled maximum services, would be a viable option. I can tell you that I wouldn’t mind having a tiny guild hobbit hole that simply isn’t big enough to fit a market/tavern/strategy room/arena (well, maybe a little dueling ring).

My personal proposal wasn’t considering scaling… and I was actually thinking of the latter, where each individual gains access to features based on their own contribution. The guild halls are nothing but mat/gold sinks anyway. That is a major intent of their existence, but I understand not wanting it to be blatant.

If you want it to require a certain number of people to contribute to open specific guild features, then it really just reinforces minimal guild size requirements which I feel ruins a major appeal for GW2.

Also, I didn’t address the point you were making. I was simply asking what constitutes his definition of an MMO not really in relation to what GW2 has or is… because GW2 with WvW, PvP, PvE, open worlds, etc with no question fits almost any definition of the label. This was in contrast to the comment that GW2 being and “MMO” requires X man content… or raids, or guilds, or banks, or chat? The point isn’t what GW2 has or doesn’t have… it was literally that just because it is an MMO it doesn’t absolutely require large guilds.

In the end we all have to realize that this is an MMO. Massively-Multiplayer-Online. I’m sure there’s plenty of games where you can have a great time and be able to do everything with 2-3 people. In the end there’s nothing ANet can do. Scaling won’t work well with a guild hall because it’s too easy to get around- lower mats required for a guild with less people? Sure, everyone leave the guild, wait a few days, and rejoin. The reality is that people will complain no matter what they do. You can not make everyone happy. And I don’t see how this is no longer casual friendly because of these few changes. This is hardly even 5% of the game, and nothing in the core world has really changed.

That is such a weak response… being that it is an MMO, why would you have any solo content what so ever? Guessing you didn’t play EQ/EQ2 with group required gating content? The scale at which you need others even in an “MMO” is obviously varied per-implementation regardless of what you seem to think it is.

I personally do not like large guilds and will not contribute to this misguided attempt to build social ties and keep people invested. The sad part is that you really should focus on smaller tight knit groups to build those social bonds. The large mc’guilds will not make people feel personally attached enough to achieve their goals.

Yes, I definitely said you should not be able to do ANYTHING solo. Totally. I said you should not expect to do EVERYTHING solo. Hence the name of the genre.

Of course I would like it if small guilds could keep up with large ones. But therein lies the issue. If you try to cater to smaller guilds larger guilds will take advantage of the system and get just as far in comparison to the smaller guilds as they do now. It’s a very delicate balance. Until I see someone with an amazing system that large guilds can NOT take advantage of in ANY way, I stand by my point.

You are missing my point. Just because a game is an “MMO” does not require, though it may imply, group content. I was being facetious. Obviously you did not indicate it should be all solo or group content, but to say that an MMO requires group content is also in my opinion invalid. GW2 really only had 5 man content prior to HoT and yet it was still an “MMO”. How exactly is 5 people massive multiplayer? Is it the open world zones that made it massive muliplayer?

5 man content only tri wurm, karka queen and teqatil among others says hello?

And all those scale.

good try but not down to 5 people, gw2 had massive multiplayer stuff before hot

I can’t remember the last time I grouped for one of those… except to taxi in. I think prior to HoT GW2 was a shining example of an MMO allowing for individual participation. Now with cookie cutter raiding specs, the holy trinity, guild size requirements, I really might as well just play any MMO.

Edit: sorry, somewhat off topic but the more I think about the things I don’t like about HoT they seem to bleed together. Really at issue is the progress guilds lost and the smaller guilds having lost the most, and even those like myself that prefer to go solo as much as possible.

who said anything about grouping, wer talking about content made for more then 5 players, something you seemed to think gw2 dident have prior to hot.

your quote

While a subtle difference… it is the intimacy of the content and the scrutiny you endure. World boss encounters are simplistic and required neither. If they were sufficient “group” content then we would see more of them and not the addition of a traditional raid.

Edit: I guess I should clarify that it didn’t require more than 5 man organized groups . World boss zergs you certainly didn’t need a large guild for those, or a group at all. My point is also simply that while the label “MMO” does imply certain things… it absolutely does not require group content. I would argue that world events and open world is really what constitutes an MMO. Anything less is just multiplayer-online, like warframe, etc. More importantly, having guilds or organizations isn’t part of the core MMO definition.

I’m genuinely getting more and more baffled by the complaints on this forum.

You can’t expect content to be balanced around 2-3 person guilds. That doesn’t even qualify as a full party!

The game type should clue you in… Massivley-Multiplayer-Online.

If you can’t stand the rest of the community to thebpointbyou have hamstring your enjoyment of the game… Well, that’s your issue and not Anets.

And for the love of Dhuum. Does ever single tiny tangential complaint need a new thread?! This forum is already hard enough to navigate without “I’m quitting HOT because X” thread number 9000.

You should all start an anti hot support group guild, then you will have plenty of people to get a guild hall.

/rant

It is called an MMO because of the fact lots of people from all over can play at the same time in a “living world”.
But pushing people into big guilds can also have a negative effects, like only the officers and high level guild members get the top stuff and access to what have you, then they don’t tell you how to get up the rankings and if you do the I believe the GM can simply demote you anyway.

This can all be offset by, does this guild support my play style and offer support to it if I need help or will they just pay me out then stop responding to my requests and questions as they are up to their armpits whit what ever they are doing.

Then there is the guild coded talk, only people who were there at the time understand.

These are just some of the reasons that some players shy away from big guilds and would like to have their own for them and a few close friends. This more common than you may realise, so stop picking on the little guy.

And lets face it, if everyone who played MMO’s had the skills to survive in highly complex social situations, they probably would not be playing an MMO in the first place….

As my work required personality test pointed out… being able to function in social situations and liking it are two completely different things.

Scaling guild halls could work based on individual contribution… if you put in X amount you get access to whatever features. Then it wouldn’t be a core set of people left to carry the rest regardless of guild size. Collective pools for mats is just a bad idea. I understand they want mat sinks and people to buy gold.

A refresher course for player etiquette

REALLY? REALLY? Seriously, I thank people when they pull monsters for me. Farming is a lot faster if you don’t have to pull them yourself.

You should too, that’s etiquette.

This will depend on your char and how good you are in handling multiple mobs at once. Not all people are able to stand strong in a train and will surely die. I’m thinking about elementalist or ranger (have only experience with those 2). They play great, but when rushed by a large train, its very hard to survive this on your own. So be carefull with this.

… lb ranger is extremely strong against large mobs, especially with bar/ss and traps which you’d likely have ready if in orr for farming, etc. qz to take down the champ if there’s one in the group too.

There’s no reason to stay on your dead servers if you don’t like it… move up the list to something more lively if that is what you like. Leveling alts all weekend there were plenty of people around, even killed the fire elemental twice (might be because of the new boss/achieve people were after).

You make is sound so easy.

I don’t know if it’s because of the bot population or what, but even the “dead” servers are “high” and it’s not possible to transfer to a “full” server. HoD is dead even in Cursed Shore. We haven’t held a temple since Halloween and group events like the abomination and broodmother sit untouched for hours….yes, hours. I am not exaggerating in the slightest. And yet….HoD is high?

So many people say level 80s are concentrating in areas like Orr, but this is certainly NOT the case on HoD, a “high” server.

Sorry to hear that. Sadly, when I say move up the list… I mean move up the wvw standing list. Unfortunately being on HoD you’d know that first hand.

That should get you to a more populated server. I just happened to pick a good server this time around, SBI. Lots of great people/guilds on our server that chose it form the start… that also won’t be going anywhere regardless of our standing.

I don’t understand people who say this game needs a dungeon finder. Since it requires no specific roles, I always form a dungeon group in at most five minutes. That’s way less time than I spend waiting in a dungeon finder queue.

If they actually implemented a dungeon finder, you wouldn’t even be in a queue. The second you hit join the queue would be ready. With everyone being labeled as DPS, the queues would constantly go off as long as a full party worth of people were queued.

One of the reasons it doesn’t exist.

I’m really not following your logic… waiting in the queue is horrible, why wouldn’t instant queue pops be a good thing?

There weren’t any quests in azshara… unless you count the mage class quest in the tower and that one camp. That’s a horrible example. :P

There’s no reason to stay on your dead servers if you don’t like it… move up the list to something more lively if that is what you like. Leveling alts all weekend there were plenty of people around, even killed the fire elemental twice (might be because of the new boss/achieve people were after).

I can’t believe he just equated anet to the guy with the funny mustache… but I personally enjoyed the story start to finish, did whispers myself and even though Logan went on a tad much about his love, it all ended rather well imo.

They should just add attacks of opportunity that one shot people if they move out of range… that would fix the issue. Or they could just remove the mobs completely since running through them would equate to the same thing.

In the sense of what it means to actually play an RPG, the traditional models actually support gear trumping skill if the margins are large enough. If you look at it from an RPG or Role Playing Game stand point (I emphasize only to remind people what the meaning of the abbreviation is) the hero/character/player who is the “oldest” (most time played) is the likeliest candidate to beat the newcomers. Not always the case, but in most cases it is true.

What? RP (role playing) is acting out a character. It has absolutely nothing to do with levels or the amount of time spent playing a character. Making it a game involves scenarios to solve, etc. Toss in 100+ people and it’s massively multiplayer. Do that online and bam, you have a MMORPG. Notice that nowhere does that imply that you’ll loot, level or anything of the sort? Hell, it would be an MMORPG about ants in an ant hill and it would still apply. Not sure how awesome gathering crap for the mound would be… over and over doing the same gathering quest.

I agree, there is way too much to work towards in this game already and they keep distracting me with frickin holiday stuff. How dare them!

That and I haven’t even finished my MF set, V/T set, or exotic offset weapons…. let alone a legendary weapon! It’s amazing how magnificent that even sounds… legendary weapon. You will never obtain one even if you tried so please dismiss them as ugly and pointless.

So, you’re bored with this game because it isn’t like the game you’re tired of?

I honestly wish people would just take a step back and look at the big picture. This game is less than 2 months old, for crying out loud, and you’re comparing it to a game that has gone through SCORES of changes, re-writes, and 4 expansions over YEARS.

But many basic feature people have come to expect were in other games at release or soon afterwards, where we are now. Instead we get fluff for Halloween, which will be long forgotten in a few weeks, instead of features that shoudl’ve already been implemented.

What exactly are these “basic” features you’re referring to?

Rift events outside of the major cities, people were getting reported for ruining the experience of the at level people in the zone… even though that was the easiest way to unlock your other souls, or even participate in events. It was a mess.

Level scaling is awesome… especially with the holiday event going on, it gave new reason to get out into the amazing expansive world they created.

For the most part… loot tables aren’t being used for unique items. I haven’t really decided if I like being able to grind/farm for currency to buy whatever I feel like in the order I feel like. It’s still the same amount of work, but maybe the disconnect devalues the work involved? But then again, the karma changes and having (even forcing) you to vary the methods of obtaining your goals is pretty good… except the one set per-instance thing, but the 60 tokens for daily paths is pretty kitten nice. Just over 2 days of unique exp paths gets you a 2h weapon skin…

Is this really what you wanted from an MMO?

I have learned that I have overcome my operant conditioning and still get cheese. The freedom is refreshing and my profession playstyle is unique/fun. And while considered inadequate those that I kill in spvp/wvw might disagree. But then again, most of them are too busy actually playing to game to spend time on the forums.

I totally agree that there should be more to spend karma on! They are increasing the ways to get karma to instances, etc… which is great, except there’s nothing I want to buy. Stuff like emotes, town clothes, minis, a special logo for our login screen… whatever. Just more karma sinks.

An abysmal conversion rate of 1k karma per-gem would give me something to do with them…. hrmm, or maybe I just haven’t found the right vendor items to purchase to post on the TP? Off to research!

The RNG is being used to make the items more unique… the other method is extreme price like the t3 cultural. Either method will cause QQ. If by “money grab” you mean that they’ll be taking all that virtual gold to the bank, then I totally agree!

I feel somewhat bad for not having bought anything since launch… I should really make an effort to blow 10 bucks of gems a month or something.

Why is the camera so focused on the floor???

made some new test and comparison with default and tweaked FoV at
- 1200×1200 (1:1)
- 1600×1200 (4:3)
- 1920×1200 (16:10)
http://imgur.com/a/jL3Mj

it is a work in progress

Thanks for the very clear/illustrative images. Not having issues with the FoV and not having issues pointing my camera up, I was still at a loss to what people were complaining about. Getting home I’d play with the camera… pan around LA enjoy the view and move on to whatever it was I was doing. I’d assume that the FoV increase won’t results in circular distorted perspective… but either way, just add a slider and let the player decide. That’s what defaults are for, for “artistic intent”.

My wife’s only complaint on the camera is that you can’t position it at the zenith… I guess she uses that for position orientation when jumping? I also have no need for that.

Edit: 26" 1980×1200 native resolution, roughly 22-24" away… just to clarify

Would you be upset if they did away with gold mailing?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: pandemos.3497

pandemos.3497

… they don’t need to transfer gold via mail. They’d just tell you to put up something stupid from some amount of gold and they’d buy it, covering the posting fee and such. They’d use this method to transfer money undetected in other games, even if you can just use mail. Also, they vary the transaction quantities for whatever tranfser methods used to avoid detection. There’s money to be made and they find ways.

IMO… they need to kill the gold making methods for bots, which they’re already doing.

I don’t like it for the same reason I don’t like 3d space sims, it is difficult to gauge size/scale because it doesn’t sit on the ground so you can’t judge how far away it really is. Depth perception. It’s like looking at self-similar fractals, is this thing a pebble or a planet? How big is it? beats me, just move towards it until you run into it.

No joke… some of the risen sharks aren’t so big, some are just frickin enormous. You don’t know until it’s chewing on you. Though if it’s more likely to be bigger if it’s a champ.

Not sure what you guys are talking about when you refer to the z-axis issue… Z isn’t “up” when coding. Just an FYI.

You can start with this, http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Z-axis

This explains it better perhaps, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Z-axis

Both those articles have different coordinate systems. Z is into screen space.

Edit: both are cartesian… neither opengl nor direct x use it by default and any sane programmer wouldn’t change it.

The gw2 collision detection is as complicated as TERA, targetting or not. That’s why melee cleaves in an arc and how ranger piercing shots work. You don’t need to target anything in gw2 (except for select skills).

That’s also why you can stand behind slow people on bosses so they soak the damage… meat shields are awesome.

Mass Effect, Tera, Skyrim, even Minecraft 3d person can benefit from moving the Center of Focus off to the right/left… but there’s something they all have in common, a crosshair and mouse look is default. GW2, the primary method of interaction and object manipulation/selection is a cursor which can use the whole screen. I appreciate their camera choices, even for the asura which really does give the perspective of being extremely small.

I agree that the PoV and FoV should be settings, but I disagree that they were poorly defaulted. I like them the way they are. It’s subjective and to say otherwise just because of a percieved majortiy/minority doesn’t help. I also understand that it can make the game non-playable… if they increased the FoV to a fisheye state, I wouldn’t play the game either.

I guess I’m the exception then… because I haven’t had any issues with camera placement and/or FoV. If you’re looking at the ground all the time, why not point the camera up more? I’m confused.

Edit: 2 minute research definitely indicates people having issues with the FoV, I do suffer from migraines but not while playing. Also, I haven’t had nausea playing a 3d game since the HL2 boat map… I was sick to begin with and it was the week it released, but I had to stop playing and lay down.
