I agree as well. On days when I just want to kill a bit of time until the better half logs in and we can go level another set of alts I farm for materials required to outfit them when they reach level 80. Sadly the DR seems to be totally random and with 171% MF there are times when I can farm for a full hour (2 omnom bars worth) before I get nothing but spikes and other times when the DR seems to kick in after only 15 minutes and even after switching maps/mobs I still get nothing.
Way back when I played a bbs game via a public dial port. That game was script based only but it would inform you when you hit your mark and had to move to a different mob and even how many different mobs you had to kill before your “cache” was cleared and you could go back farming the original mob. Now that was 30 years ago, have we regressed that far?
Unfortunately the player is not the problem here. Anything could have come up in that thing called “real life” forcing someone to have to log out. What the problem is the game mechanics do not allow for a transfer of “dungeon ownership” to another party member.
Because as Draknar stated above insta 80s do not have a clue on how to play their characters. Taking a character to level 80 takes very little time using a mix of exploration, doing hearts, doing the personal story and tossing in a bit of crafting but you learn how to play. I have 8 level 80s all leveled in that manner. Then again I am a bit older then most and do not belong to the current “entitlement” generation of gamers. Of all the games I have played and I have played many, this is one of the easiest games to level an alt in. Just leave the QQ behind, roll up your sleeves and get to work.
Here I had gotten these from a dear departed friend….
<Hands krait a dozen shiny apples>Every good krait should be filled with apples…….
Hey DH? Why do you all run away so fast when your golems go down? I was picking up baggies all the way from Garrison to Bay!
Then I chased an Asuran warrior half way across the map and wondered why he was so afraid of one lone Asuran engineer, after all we are both Asuran. He finally stopped to fight, AFTER he caught up to his friends for help! What is the matter, do not like 1v1 fights? Too even for you?
DH…members of the Olympic sprint team…I have to laugh at those runners when I turn them into a moa with my mesmer…it suits them so well…giant chickens.
And those big burly DH hammer warriors get so angry when you turn them into chickens…. hilarious. You should really control your temper…it will get you killed as you found out.
Do you see yourself in the above?
Currently I have 8 level 80’s with the ninth about 1/3 of the way there. There is one major flaw behind wanting to level faster and that flaw becomes especially evident the faster you level your character. You just cannot play with the same degree of skill on a fast leveled character then you can on a slow leveled toon. The characters that I leveled quickly do poorer in WvW then the ones that I took my time on simply because I know how to play that character better. I am more familiar with the strengths and the weaknesses of the slower leveled character.
I have seen this in most every game I have played. Someone will get power leveled or even buy that service but when push comes to shove they do not know how to play that character and more often then not become a liability to the party/group. So although it is possible in GW2 to level a toon to 80 in a few hours I take at least a week to do so and do it through the full range of possibilities, crafting, questing, story, wvw, etc. so when that character is ready to play as a level 80 I am ready to play it as a level 80 and not as a brand new character with high skills.
I carry both sets of gear with me and rotate my farming between different areas and different mobs. The above example does have a small sample size but I have farmed enough with and without MF to state without a doubt that I make more with magic find equipped.
9 level 80’s. 8 with 100% map completion with the 9th being on schedule to finish tonight, all he needs is Bloodtide Coast and Dredgehaunt Cliffs. All done with my own effort, no cheats or hacks.
Oh, I play on HoD.
I really do not see the problem.
If you had been around during the great Wi Flag debate in Asheron’s Call (I was) you would have seen the same argument. Those people that were affected by this “bug” in the rng complained vociferously that they were bugged. Those that were not affected by it came back with the same arguments you see here. “It is all rng”, “you do not understand random number generation”, “random is random” and so on. However someone at Turbine did finally investigate and discovered that there was a bug that weighted the random number generator against a certain segment of the population.
We can all agree that there is no way for us, the players, to gather the data required to prove or disprove a bugged rng in GW2. We would at least have to know what type of rng they are using first and foremost and we do not even know that. However what myself and many others would like would be some indication/response from ANET that they will at least acknowledge our concerns and have someone look at the code for their rng and assure us that it is truly random.
Turbine did not want to do this for the longest time in regards to the Wi Flag in Asheron’s Call but finally did so. ANET should at least do as much.
You can read about the Wi Flag in Asheron’s Call here:
http://asheron.wikia.com/wiki/Wi_Flag
Random is not always random.
I will reiterate my main point once more. Nobody has the right in this game to label people as selfish and greedy because you believe your play style and choices are better then theirs.
If you state simply “I do not want to group with people that wear magic find gear in a dungeon” and leave it as such then there is no problem. Stacking a “because they are selfish and greedy” qualifier at the end of that statement is nothing more then adding a label to promote your style of game play and putting others below you which adds nothing except to make you look shallow and unacceptable of the choices that others may make.
If you wish to qualify why you will not run with someone wearing magic find then place the onus on yourself by stating “because they slow me down” and do not place a label on others by stating “they are selfish and greedy”.
Understand where I am coming from?
SM castle will give you 35 points per tick. One keep and one tower will equal 35 points per tick. Now that keep and tower will consume far less resources in both supply and manpower to upgrade and defend then will SM castle.
What gets me is why people are so up in arms over it. Unlike a dungeon run jp rewards are individualistic, you would get the same thing whether you run the jump puzzle yourself or go with a group. Some say because it gives them something for no work involved. I could say the same thing about some rich player buying 100,000 gems, converting it all to gold and buying anything he wants from the Trading post. He is not doing any work either.
Killing those stupid living story corrupted thingies should count towards the PPT. After all they spawn on the yak paths which if the yaks do not get through we could lose points.
And the chickens! They are actually spies for the other servers because everyone knows the other servers are all chickens, right? So I go out of my way to kill them all but do we get points for it? No! We do not even get the opportunity to stomp them so I am going to give up WvW if this chicken thing is not fixed!
Upon trying to log in after supper and a hockey game I found that there was another patch to download. I got a chuckle out of the patch notes
“Some improperly placed shadows were removed from terrain.”
So 35 plus files were infected by these shadows! Is this a portent of the future? Only the shadow knows for sure!
Pity the thief that tries to hide in the removed shadows.
If the shadow has been removed what will you shadowstep to when you shadowstep?
What determines if the shadow was placed properly or improperly?
So many questions….
Great news. There is nothing more hilarious then seeing a thief in WvWvW going into stealth to run away and being able to track the thief because he has a mini out following!
No burning. Not scary enough for the spy. Just equip a shovel and bury them so they can see their screen darken shovelful by shovelful.
Caithe was an ugly, weak little a-corn with no direction in life until she became a kernel in the fight against the elder dragons/
Here is the problem I face with the SoS change. I usually run as a duo with the wife’s Ranger. While she has her signet equipped she can move across the terrain at a steady pace. (key word steady) With my Guardian I have to stop, wait for the pulses and then move again. Yesterday when we were cruising the countryside in PvE opening Christmas boxes she had to constantly stop and wait for me to catch up. With the old system at least I could slot Retreat which along with SoS would allow me to keep pace.
I hate stop and go driving which is why I do not live in a city!
I am on HoD and last month finished my map completions for all 9 of my characters but I had the WvW portion of it long ago. As many have stated it is not all that difficult, even on a low ranked server, if you watch the maps and are ready to move in on a vista or poi as soon as the opportunity arises.
The “Invalid Authorization” message is a random bug that has been around for some time now. It will usually pop up for me if I transition between WvW and the pve worlds. When it occurs you have to log completely out of the game and the restart the client to gain the proper authorization. Going to character select will not fix it.
They are not quite as bad as all those people that buy a Commander badge and never step into WvW. You see them at dragon events, you see them in Lions Arch, you see them all over the PvE maps but never do you see them in WvW.
Then if they do happen to enter WvW for the first time they think they can take over and start giving orders because they have a Commander’s badge! Some take time to learn the ropes first but they should badge down until they do. The system is so broken it is laughable.
What this means is that farming ectos/gold to outfit my third level 80 in exotics will not be quite as onerous as the previous 2. Considering a full set of exotic armor/weapons and accessories can run up to 90 ectos it will cut my grind time down immensely. In fact I can use that time to get my 4th character to level 80….then my fifth…er and my sixth…seventh?
So to satisfy everyone just change the name from rare to uncommon.
This has gone on in any game I have ever played that had guild vaults. I have long proposed the idea of a merit type system where the more value people place into a shared vault the more they are allowed to remove from the vault. In that way one person could never empty out a guild vault unless they are the ones that put every last item into it. Guild officers would be exempt from the merit system so they could assist new members from the guild stash.
Gates of Madness = Gommie Bears …… they may growl alot but are really soft and chewy.
The hate derives from some of the bandwagon guilds that joined for a season and then left. Those fly-by-night guilds hurt HoD to such a degree that many wonder if winning the first two seasons was actually worth it. Sadly the hate these guilds brought upon HoD stuck with us long after they left the asylum. The hate is for them but it is easier to hate HoD as a whole.
Hoddor!
I do not delete my characters once creating them, never have and never will.
Never seen as many thieves before until CD entered the picture. They do throw kind of a hissy fit when you turn them into a moa but I figure if they want to play chicken they may as well look like one!
You can access your personal bank by going to the craft stations in the Borderlands. Once you upgrade the keeps with merchants you have personal and guild bank access.
If you want mounts that are of any use then go to LoTRO where they developed mounted combat. However you cannot fight while mounted in every region of that game as they had to put in special regions, overly large and open in order to accomodate mounted combat. In other regions the mounts are just for travel purposes.
If you want mounts purely for cosmetic purposes I would rather have them spend their time on other things such housing, game fixes, town clothes, new content before even considering taking the time to develop mounts. As someone stated the sheer amount of development time required so each race fits each mount properly is just not worth the effort when that time could be better used elsewhere. With the amount of development time required they would have to wait for a future expansion and have a team dedicated just for that purpose.
Well tonight I went to Orr, nobody was running events, in fact the place was a ghost town on my server. I finally got into the Jormag event and got just enough dragonite to complete one Ascended weapon. Now since I have 9 level 80’s …………..
perhaps if there are new areas where we can hire them, only there in areas 80+,like southsun cove and islands like that.
we could unlock some by jp,karma,AP or even buy some in TP,and could in a simple way gear them, and they would lvl ranks, like defense, ranged and so on..but i dont think it will happen tho
Buy companions from the TP? Slavery has been outlawed in most civilized countries for a long time!
Mark, I have a possible solution. The majority of people think that because a thread/post receives no Developer feedback that the Devs have abandoned this forum. I do understand your position in that they do not have the time to reply to every post although they do read many. Currently you identify the posts that a Developer has replied in with a red flag. Perhaps you can add a different color flag that will inform the public on whether or not the thread has been read and taken into consideration even though there is no reply? At that point a reply would not be totally necessary as long as we know that someone has viewed our concerns. Currently there is way of knowing.
Just a thought.
Edit: I thought it over and refined it.
Let us say we have 3 threads concerning
1) Mounts
2) New maps
3) Arrow cart field of view
If the developer team has no interest in working on Mounts in the foreseeable future flag the thread gray. If it is under consideration such as new maps but pushed out until time permits flag it yellow. If it is currently under development/in process such as arrow carts ( okay I am hoping
) but with no ETA then flag it green. The current red flag can be left automated as it is now when a Dev posts in a thread. The other 3 can be a toggle for developers only that they can click on accordingly.
It may even clear up many repetitive threads!

What do you get when you moa an FC and then use a Flamethrower?
KFC!
Combine Beans, Beets, Water and Tomatoes in the Mystic Toilet to get a Superior Laxative Rune which grants you a 50% runS boost!
I have spent over 4 hours a day in Southsun, split up to avoid DR, and yet to have even 1 crate drop. And that is with MF over 350%!
If you beat these people every time you met them in combat would your build be considered a cheese build? Is it only a cheese build when you lose the fight? So you lose and it has to be one of those nasty cheese builds because there is no way you should lose is there? I had someone accusing me of running a cheese build in WvW on my mesmer after I killed him for the forth or fifth time. He truly believed I was running a PU mesmer and would not believe me when I told him I had no points at all in Chaos and was running a straight up power/precision build.
Golly me, did the way time works change while I was sleeping? Last time I checked 10 minutes was both within the next 1 hour, and the next 2 hours.
I must have missed the memo.
Nope, time has not changed but accuracy seems to be something that is amiss. What is ironic is that I was doing my daily in Orr when the message first popped up on screen. “A new build will be available ….” yadda yadda. I mentioned in map chat be prepared to relog in 10 minutes. 8 minutes later the “Your game will restart in 3 minutes” came up on screen. If I can predict it within 10 minutes what is stopping ANET from being more accurate in their predictions?
With the message of within the next hour or two, I could perhaps get my gathering done but I would not want to hazard starting an event or going into WvW to get my enemy kills. However with the inaccuracy of their predictions even going out to gather orri is out of the question.
espionage is all part of war
Only if you have a fair chance of capturing, torturing and then executing the spy. If you do not then it is nothing more then a glorified cheat!
It is hilarious however to see NSP state that they do not like running in packs and that they are outnumbered in fights. I have routinely soled supply camps, taking them back from NSP, but I have noticed that NSP likes to send 6 to 10 people to cap one camp and quite often more. I was in the process of putting down the supervisor in our North east camp ( Foghaven) when 8 NSP rushed in to ninja it.
Ah but I cannot complain too much. As I stated in a previous post I have gotten over 500 kills this matchup, most thanks to NSP’s poor play quality. Yes, I may have met my demise about 10 times but 500 versus 10 is worth it. My hats off to the one bunker engie that was fighting me to a stalemate…..he is one tough engineer. There is one ele that put me down solo, however I fixed my toon for the next time we meet. Your thieves are not an issue unless they are travelling in a wolf pack and the warriors just add to my kill count.
Mesmers dying by gate is fair game in this match up apparently.
Do not retaliate in kind HoD. Rise above it
Although I died by the water gate twice on my mesmer, both times my corpse kept a bunch of FC busy guarding while HoD rammed the gate down. I was rezzed…from the inside! Had a few people doing a “swim-by” every now and then. It was hilarious watching all the FC congregate by my corpse thinking we would stoop as low as to rez someone through the gate!
FC was played at their own game!
There is a simple explanation as to why one person can be so much “luckier” then another even when doing the exact same things on a CONSISTENT basis. This would happen if the random number generator used in GW2 was a pseudo random number generator using a FIXED seed versus a random seed.
RNGs with a fixed seed will return a repeating set of results and will start at the beginning of those results each and every time the rng is restarted. So if you log in today and the first 1000 returns on your list of returns based on your seed number are lousy rolls you will get the same 1000 lousy rolls when you log in tomorrow!
From the number of people that have posted such a disparity in “luck” between people my guess is GW2 employs a fixed seed pseudo rng but they would never admit to that for it would open one nasty can of worms.
from this…
“The Ascended Inscriptions all take the exotic inscription of the stat combo you want plus Dark Matter and Crystalline Dust. Dark Matter is a new Account Bound material exclusively salvaged from Exotics.”
you have rng. I highly doubt you will find dark matter with every salvage of an exotic.
Maybe you could help your better half make supper??
Nah, I am retired. She still has that job. Please do not tell her I said that!
I am sure I witnessed this yesterday however I could not take any screenshots that would have lent credence to my guess that a hack was being used. At one of our supply camps when we fought off an enemy attack one of the downed enemy combatants disappeared underground and immediately started to heal. At that time he was still using AOEs on us and vice versa but with minimal damage. He finally rallied and ported out.
After doing some searching on the internet I found that there is a hack out there that will do just that, project you underground where you can rally in safety. Now whether or not this particular player used a hack to go down under or if it was a bug is open to conjecture and hard to prove one way or the other but the very existence of such a hack out there tells me it is being used.
Perhaps if they add more options for off hand weapons such as allowing mace and sword to be used in either hand. That would open up more possibilities.
Just a thought.
As a convenience thing it would be nice. When I have my ele in WvW in the open areas I prefer to use d/d but when defending or attacking a tower/keep I swap to staff. It is a pain to have to stop, open inventory, find the daggers and swap them out and then rinse repeat once you get to the next objective. Have a longer cooldown before swaps are available but at least make it available.
I have 3 characters, level 80s, that I currently use in WvW. My Guardian, a thief and an ele. All have their own particular skills for particular jobs and I will alternate between characters depending on what type of mix the team requires at any particular time. The upcoming changes being character bound will force me to play only one of those characters, regardless of what is required at the time. That character will be forced to keep up to those that play only one character or be at a disadvantage when fighting those characters, similar in part to fighting someone geared with all ascended versus exotic or lower.
Take someone that plays only one toon, has it maxed to the hilt with ascended gear, plus the enhanced abilities this system brings in WvW and place him against someone that plays multiple toons. That second person is not going to be able to match the first as he has to spread upgrades across all his toons. So as many mentioned people will pick one character only for WvW as they have little choice.
In my humble opinion it is not that dungeons are too hard, it is the scaling of the dungeons that seems to be off. For the February monthly, 5 of us, all family members, ran a few of the dungeons, most for the first time. All were level 80 and all were equipped with exotic gear. We found the lower level dungeons much more difficult then the higher level ones. The experiance was such that none of us really care to do dungeon runs. I think the problem arises because the scaling of the dungeons for level 80’s takes into account that those level 80’s COULD be outfitted with ascended gear which makes things more difficult for those in exotic or rares. Scale it to that point and those in ascended complain the dungeons are too easy.
Nothing more then a L33T who grew up on Mario taking the high road over everyone else. I use a mesmer to do jump puzzles. It makes it easy to set a portal before a difficult jump just in case I miss so I do not have to go all the way back to the start of the puzzle in order to try again. Mind you I have completed all the Jump puzzles in the game and with the exception of using my mesmer as detailed above I have done them all on my own. I am also 58 years old and my reflexes are just not what they were when I was 17 and thinking that I was the best thing since the invention of sliced bread.
As many have mentioned it does not hurt you in any way, shape or form and it is only your ego getting bruised. Play your game and keep your nose out of the way I play mine. As long as it is not an exploit, and it is not, as long as it is not a hack, and it is not, then what is the big deal? It is not your values or your conscience that has to deal with it so quit pretending that it harms you.
