It is extremely frustrating to be fighting a large zerg only to find that they can walk or glitch through tower doors and attack you. The attached screens are from an assault on Sunnyhill Tower. Notice the gate is up all along. I am not finding fault with the attacking force, I am pointing fingers at a bug that has been around for quite some time.
I will repost a suggestion I made in a similar thread some time back.
As I suggested in another thread the system already keeps track of each and every piece of siege, hence the timers. If they placed a siege “mechanic” in each tower/keep (as one of the upgrades to go along with the extra worker) with a map of the siege placement under his control (trebs are currently shown on mini-map which would suggest that the game knows where all pieces of siege are placed) a person refreshing siege could open the interface, select which siege they would like to refresh and tell the guy to get to work. All refreshed siege in that keep would be under one timer, siege would not get missed by the next shift coming on, and it would save people time. If it is a piece of troll siege then that piece is not selected for refresh on the mechanics interface.
For extra badges or silver depending on the amount of siege under the mechanic’s control the timer could be extended to a max of 3 hours.
When Kain rocketed up the ranks and rolled over HoD in the process only the core group stuck around that week and it was all we could do to hold onto the northern camp and maybe a tower if we were lucky. We all learned to deal with overwhelming odds that week and for the most part that core group knows what to do and where to go without the need for a Commander or even any map chat or TS.
We have those that will routinely solo camps or even two man cap towers because we had to learn how to do all that stuff when following a zerg/karma train was not an option. The secret however is taking those “fairweathers” as everyone loves to call them and teaching them the ropes the way we learned them without censuring them for mistakes made. Those people tend to stick around and grow our core group. If all you teach a newcomer is how to run in a zerg then of course they will leave as soon as the odds are against you. I could easily name 20 people or more from that core group that would make a top Commanders on any server if they chose to buy the tag.
That is why HoD is moving up…..slowly…but we are moving up not because of a pile of new people but the growing core due to how those new people are treated.
By removing the daily and the monthly as it exists now they also removed the prime methods of obtaining laurels. Adding laurels to the new system as a reward would not be equal across the board so putting them as a daily log-in reward makes sense.
Two points I gathered from the reddit..
" Player was moved from the map and placed in a different instance of the map
Player attempted multiple times to zone back into this specific version of the map, "
Those two points, if true, tell me that the player was intent on grieving one group of people. His intent was not to farm as he could have done that in the instance he was moved to, his intent was not to progress a quest or story as again he could have finished that in the second instance. In that he made many attempts to get back to a specific instance where he could grief a specific group of people then he deserves what he got.
^Well, I think we all hated the recent LS event in wvw… And several seemed to hate the Seasons achievements bringing in wvw newbies. So I don’t think we want LS in wvw.
Lol definately not. Especially since the corrupted things insist on spawning right on the yak paths. Those are just annoyances as you cannot complete the LS by staying in WvW.
The way it is currently is a pain…not only do you have to stop but you have to stop just long enough to get the maximum buff. Move too soon and you lose, move too late and you lose. I am hating that change with a passion.
Well I have noticed one difference between IoJ and NSP. If NSP does not have at least a 3 to 1 advantage they will run away. At least IoJ will fight no matter what the odds are. So IoJ will fight but boy oh boy can NSP ever run away in a hurry.
I’m pretty sure you’re confusing rolling over 3 or 4 people with your HoD zerg and then getting crushed and humiliated by NSP’s “zerg” with numbers approximately 10 – 20 less than yours.
Uh huh. Like the 25 plus and a golem you used to take the southeast tower that was protected by only one defender, without any siege weapons and no supply. Was it necessary for those “outnumbered” NSP to laugh and dance on me after they rolled over me? No I am not confused at all. I mean they were real brave and skilled.

I run a condi build on my engie and with full stacks can do over 2000 points in condition damage. 1v1 he can hold his own and usually come out ahead against most other classes but 2 hammer warriors can keep him locked down and destroy him before he even has the opportunity to use any of his skills. Necros can be a pain if they transfer the conditions back. So in effect I would argue that some power builds such as a hammer warrior are op and should be nerfed and necros as well!
It is faster but mobility plays a large role here. Against a Ranger using a longbow at under 500 range and both the Ranger and the Guardian spamming the number one button the Ranger will invariably win. At that range the Guardian should be doing more damage (394 versus 302) but such is not the case as the arrows will hit more often then the orb due to the higher mobility of the Ranger versus the Guardian. Chains of Light or scepter 3 would help this issue but more often then not mobs and enemies just continue moving when “Chains” is applied.
Having 8 level 80s already with my 9th and final toon at level 49 these scrolls are totally useless to me in their present form. I will not be buying anymore character slots so they will collect dust in the bottom of my vault in case they introduce a new race/profession.
Not sure. I heard they had a gym and that they do work out so hopefully they are not that big.
The one question I would have asked with regards to “how pretty the art is” is that if the pretty artwork is a driving force behind many of their decisions why not implement DX11 support versus the archaic DX9 thus letting peoples’ graphic cards determine how pretty the world is?
Orange swords no longer appear on the towers but the white swords do. Since nothing but the enemy attacks towers (no quaggans) then all you have to do is pay attention to your map and look for white swords as well as orange ones. In truth there is little difference then before, only that you no longer can ignore white swords on supply camps towers or keeps.
So if a small group party worked very hard to take a keep/tower, why punish them for not having the manpower to conduct a full sweep for hidden mesmers?
That to me is sad,
I believe no matter what size group and party you are, you deserve to be greatly awarded for your great efforts.
Not to be Punished by a a cheap unfair alternative method.
So as in my post above, we were the small group, the capping force about 15 to 20 strong. They HAD enough people to sweep but were too smug and arrogant to do so. A simple sweep of that tower would have taken one person, one minute to run. Why reward them for incompetence? If you have the manpower to take a tower or keep you have the manpower to sweep.
So I set my MF at 207% and farmed skelks for one hour exact. The last time I was on Southsun Island was 28 hours ago so DR should not have had an impact on my results. In one hour of farming I got the following:
42 Dark stained claws
1 spiral shell (errant crab)
7 salvageable hides
Common (white items)
1 chainmail shoulders
1 rawhide leggings
1 acolyte cowl
1 acolyte pants
Blue Items
1 Beserker Pirate’s hat
1 Rampager’s Pirate boots
1 Travellers Krytan Bow
1 Cleric dagger
25 large fangs
25 vials of potent blood
6 vicious fangs
2 vials of powerful blood
Green Items
1 Carrion cabalist hood of Melandru
1 Rampagers rifle of grawl slaying
1 Beserkers spear of grawl slaying
1 Rampagers greatsword of the hydromancer
2 Black Lion Chests
And a grand total of ZERO crates. Not one! Not even the hint of one.
Am I glad I did not hold my breath for that hour. I have a pretty good idea of what they can do with their rng.
The glicko system works………to a point. If populations were static then the rise and fall of the glicko would follow the fortunes of the server in WvW. However populations are not static and a sudden increase or decrease in the server’s population and the glicko takes a long time to respond and re-balance the server matchups.
The glicko system was developed for chess ratings, and was modified for WvW. It does not have the systems in place to adjust for the rise and fall of server populations which in WvW is ongoing.
Not sure how that idea would pan out. Consider this scenario. We have a small group of homeland defenders that number about a dozen people in the midnight hours. At times the ratio of us vs enemy players is 12v0 as there is no enemy on the map. We spend our time upgrading, repairing, refreshing and building siege and yet are ready to stop a breakout or a small enemy incursion into our BL. So according to your idea we would be “autobalanced” and some of us would be forced to another map or go to EotM which most of us abhor with a passion. I for one do not do EotM nor EBG nor enemy Borderlands. I am a Home BL defender yet you would force me to move?
The excess of Bloodstone dust is an effort to hide the rarity of some of the other items. Give the masses lots of bread and they will forget about the wine. (whine)
I have set my main up to farm for my alts, complete with full exotic magic find gear. In just two hours of grind time I can usually find 2 rares which I can decon for ecto along with enough materials and coin to make 10-12 rare items which I can also decon for ecto. So on average and by some mindless, boring grinding, I get 12 ecto for 2 hours of work plus enough cash to cover my expenses. To gather the 90 ecto it takes to outfit a level 80 in full exotics would take me 16 hours of grind time give or take.
So can someone who justs farms the events and chest drops make that much in a two hour period? I highly doubt it. The increased loot from the chests makes those events more worth doing and it is about time it happened. People are not looking to score rares during these events, they are looking at a chance to get a precursor.
Balckhawks are OP and should be nerfed!
Well now, I was at the JP in our BL on Sunday when I came across two dead HoD with a DH Asuran ele standing over their bodies. I did not attack but went to rez my countrymen when the ele attacked me. Sadly I had to kill him and the next DH I see in our JP I attack on site.
Remember GW1? Just go to the Hall of Monuments if you do not and consider what is in the Hall for you. Now fast forward a few years to something called GW3. If ANET sticks to a pattern, items, minis, achievements, legendarys will all count to what you will be able to start the next game with. In GW1 it was grinding that brought you these rewards whereas in GW2 it is rng for the majority of them.
The way things are going with rng if there is a GW3, I highly doubt that I would even bother with it.
Just a friendly warning to the one GOM Ranger, running with a Drake pet, that was flying above the Hills keep in our BL last night while I was on a treb. Next time I will not miss the screen shot opportunity and report you!
Water is necessary for life whereas brandy in excess will kill you.
Water and soap will make you clean and nice smelling whereas brandy and soap just do not mix and you smell like a wino.
You can start a fire with brandy but you cannot start one with water.
Too much water will cause you to wet the bed but you wake up in the morning refreshed, too much brandy you not only wet the bed, you puke all over it and wake up in one hell of a mess with one hell of a headache.
So given all that I will take the water please!
In the case of Indigo one has to take into consideration the distance between the waypoint and where the person died. As Indigo is the furthest away from the waypoint then one can expect to see more dead bodies. You will see this everywhere you have a major battle, the further away from an uncontested waypoint the more dead bodies you will have.
Possible solution? Have the totally dead auto removed from the battle but instead of placing them at the nearest uncontested waypoint have them dropped in a safe area just out of range of the action and give them a 10-20 seconds summon sickness such as when using a revive orb. That penalty would increase on consecutive deaths. Give people a few seconds to decide to waypoint and run back normally or be placed into the safe area with summon sickness.
Call it a M.A.S.H. if you will. You can have a Doctor in the unit (call him Hawkeye) that for a fee will remove the summon sickness, a nurse that will grant you a temporary speed boost so you can get back to the battle (Hotlips) and even a armor repair station (man that with Klinger, a guy with whiskers in a sexy dress)
:)
I have leveled all 8 classes to level 80 alongside the wife and her 8. If you do not find a 1-17 area challenging enough when you are level 10 move it up to a 15-25 area. Hit Orr when you are level 60. The world is open, areas are not level restricted.
If you want a challenge take a level 1 character and run all the way to Meddler’s Reach in Orr. There are challenges in the game but you cannot sit and wait for it to come to you, go out and challenge yourself!
Pathetic. He could have at least waited until the season was officially over, even if the outcome is assured.
Considering the scarcity of them plus what omnomberry items cost on the TP my guss is they would have a similar, if not an identical taste to money.
Last night I chased a GoM ele that was attacking the southern camp up to the windmill where they were dueling where I proceeded to finish him off. Although I had people from my server telling me not to as there were duels going on I considered it a justifiable kill. I want to tip my hat to the other GoMs there that did not step in and I tried not to hit them in return with any AOEs. I can just imagine his anger at his teammates for not defending him but it is kind of lame to use dueling as a cover for attacking camps.
As well just before I quit for the night I met one GoM mesmer at the sentry by the southern ruins while on my mesmer. The sentry was ARs and it was sort of a 3 way fight for a few minutes. I managed to flip the sentry and after a long protracted fight my mesmer prevailed. I want to say I really enjoyed that fight as my mesmer is new to WvW, still with masterwork trinkets, but I can say I am happy with the build so far although you nearly had me a few times.
For the record I have to stand with those that say it is a L2P issue. Allow me to explain. I run perplexity runes on my engineer and when he first started using those runes he dominated. However I am finding out that as time goes by I am losing more fights. Why? Because people are learning how to counter. I could easily list the counters that will destroy my perplex engie but that would be counterproductive for me would it not?
Today I ran into a Kaineng ele a few times in solo roaming in our BL. Although I did put the ele down a few times overall I lost more then I won. Against a DR mesmer we had a long, drawn out fight until that mesmer made one critical error and I won. There are ways to counter a perplex engie, find them. I will give you a hint, one Kaineng hammer warrior had it totally wrong when he bypassed my turrets and everybody else in my group in his blind desire to get to me in a camp fight. He did down me but by then my turrets and team-mates finished him off.
The problem is that hammer warrior knew only one way to attack, one tactic in his mind and he was unable to change to a different tactic during the fight. Thus our small group took out a much larger one.
There are also groups that are quite skilled in handling an opposing group with a perplex engie in the midst and when I run into a group such as that I just switch to my Mes or Guardian and toss something different into the mix. It usually prevails as people are unwilling to change what has been successful up to that point to try a different tactic. That is simple human nature.
As time goes on more and more people will discover how to counter a perplex engie. I am already seeing it happen but those people are not those coming to the forums to QQ about it, they are out working on counters.

I received this today in my mail. Obviously a scam as the grammer is pathetic beyond belief. I suppose it loses something in the translation. If it is legit then ANET should use better proofreaders.

Scenario:
Imagine that I have 2 pickup trucks. One with 4 wheel drive and short box is for my enjoyment. It takes me to those out of the way fishing holes where I am guaranteed the chance at landing that record trout. The other is 2 wheel drive but with a long box and it is my working truck. It allows me to haul the stuff that I need to haul.
So they decide to remove the 4 wheel drive from my one truck but allow me to add a long box instead. I ALREADY HAVE a long box truck! Then they offer you to drop you off and pick you up at those fishing holes but you have to work your way up to be able to get into those really out of the way spots. They will not take you there until you earn credits by going to closer, more easily accessed spots first.
The thing is my existing 4 wheeler could already take me to those out of the way spots where those big trout are. Why do I have to work my way up by going to those easily accessed spots first where everyone else is going? The big fish there are going to be real scarce!
Totally kittened!
Could always ask Anet to take the servers down for an entire morning instead.
You know, that would not bother me as much as long as they took it down for the entire morning, not all day or for 5 minutes.
I am not going to get into specifics but I recently witnessed a clear case of hacking, using a PoV modifier, in WvW. After taking several screenshots showing where the attackers were standing and what was occurring I went to submit a ticket. Since I could not submit that ticket while the attack was actually going on (I would have been dead long before I hit the submit button) I posted it after the fight but had to jump through hoops and call it something totally different then what it was, an actual case of cheating.
Please give us the option to report cheaters, along with the ability to upload the screenshots and call it what it is. Cheating. Not gameplay issues, not account issues, not dancing with the quaggans on a hot summer night issues, but CHEATING.
Well my thoughts on the issue are that if you can kill a person on the other side of a gate with a greatsword then you can rez a person on the other side of the gate. Still would love to hear a definitive however.
I stated my preference for Commander tags in WvW long ago but will do so again here in a shortened version.
I would like to see WvWvW Commander tags tied into their experience in WvWvW. Different colors or shapes would denote more experienced Commanders which would be based off of how many Objectives they have captured, how many enemy kills, camp captures, etc. You know all that stuff that is already tracked as achievements.
This gets away from the Commander who purchases his badge and immediately starts barking orders on the field when many do not even have a clue what they are doing at that point. As a Commander earns his “bars” so to speak he can command a larger group size, has more options to view supply, mark objectives, etc. The current “blue dorito” is sufficient for PvE where for the most part it acts as a rally point on the map but within WvW you tend to want to follow the more successful Commanders and ignore some of the other doritos until they get a bit of seasoning under their belts.
If a Commander can garner the support of the troops and lead them without demeaning them then they will gain the support over time to move up in rank. Believe me there are some people out there that should never have bought a tag to the point where I cringe when they “tag up” and start calling for everyone to “stack on me” to take a camp while a tower or keep is being attacked.
Blame it on the F2P business model of the game. By going this route companies are not held to the same standards that a subscription game is. Customers can no longer withhold the money. If this issue were new I would grant them the benefit of doubt but it is the same issue with the season 1 rewards.
Years ago I had taken my car in for a complete tune-up before leaving on vacation and just after picking it up, two blocks away from the dealership it flooded and died. I got it going and 2 more blocks same thing, gasoline all over the engine, flooded. I called the dealership and told them I wanted it picked up and fixed immediately and was told that everyone had left for the weekend and it would not be done until Monday. Since I had paid via cheque I threatened to stop-payment if it was not done in two hours and 2 hours later I picked up my car at the dealership with no further issues.
There is no way a customer can do that with the current business model and is one of the reasons more companies are moving towards such a model. Since the revenue stream is based off of indirect sales through the gem store the onus is not on them to answer directly the customer’s concerns.
The rng Gods hate me with a passion. So far I have dumped well over 250 rare Greatswords and probably close to 100 exotic Greatswords down the Mystic Toilet with no success at all at a precursor. Today, while doing her daily, the better half (not sure how long I will still call her that now) dumped 4 totally random rares on the Toilet and got the Tooth of Frostfang. So if you do not see me in game for awhile it is because I will be occupied beating my head against the nearest brick wall.
I do not believe if ANET has ever confirmed what form of random number generator they are using. Some are sad to say less random than others especially if they used a fixed “seed” number. Over time a fixed seed will return a repeating set of numbers as explained here part way down the page under the heading “Setting Seeds”.
http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/28548/Pitfalls-in-Random-Number-Generation
Well I can try to answer the question as diplomatically as possible and hopefully not ruffle too many feathers. I do not GvG, our guild is a tiny, family guild. Although it does not bother me too much one way or the other I can foresee that it might in the future.
Think about the dynamics of WvW as they currently are. You are doing your best to protect what is yours and to gain points for your server and one of the larger guilds decides that they want to GvG. While that fight is going on, even if it is tucked away in some forgotten corner of the map, you can forget about asking those people for any assistance in defending a keep for example. They are on the map, may very well have a Commander tag up, but they are not involved in WvW, they are involved in GvG. At this point in time they are not playing the same game with the same goals as the rest of the people on the map. If it is one of your larger guilds then they not only are hurting you at that point by not helping, they also count against your map cap and could prevent you from bringing in people from another map to assist.
Secondly, if there is a GvG match going on on the map I am on how do I know it is GvG? If I happen to see red and to me red is dead, is it fair for me to be called out by my own teammates for playing the game as a WvW’er and not a GvG’er?
Going forward, once the leagues are active I can see this division between those that are serious about WvW and those that want to GvG becoming worse as there will be more incentive to gain as many points per tick in WvW as possible. Will it be fair that all players in WvW share in the reward should they win when all “Guild X” did was particpate in GvG while their teammates do all the heavy lifting?
If the GvG goals were the same as the WvW goals then it would not matter one way or the other but currently such is not the case. They are, while a GvG fight is going on, diametrically opposite of each other. Like oil and water they just do not mix. At this point the only thing that would help is a separate map for those that wish to GvG but at the point it becomes another game in itself such as WvW, sPvP and PvE are now.
So hopefully that helps you understand why many people may harbor hostility against those that just want to GvG.
So yesterday I went up to the ship to see if I could dump the 500 tokens from my vault into a ballot box but the boxes were closed. So I thought about deleting them when this little tiny voice whispered to me to “wait until after the patch”. I am so glad I listen to voices in my head! And people think I am crazy!
Edit: Just sold them for over 5 gold total.

After seeing it mentioned once more on the forums in a thread that disappeared for another reason I would like to know an answer, one way or the other on the issue of rezzing downed players through the gates of keeps/towers. We have had discussions in-game on it to no end, some saying it is a cheat, others saying it is not due to the fact the players could/should pull you away from gate before killing you. Out of all the times it has been asked about in the past I have never seen a definitive answer from ANET on the subject and I do think one is required.
Is this a legitimate strategy or is it abusing an inherent flaw in the game design?
My input. I am 58 years old and every now and then my arthritis kicks in making jump puzzles difficult to do. I suppose 25 years as a heavy duty mechanic had something to do with that!
However I have recently completed all the jump puzzles in the game many on my main a human Guardian and the rest with my Sylvari mesmer. The wife at 56 has difficulty with jump puzzles period even though she does not suffer the arthritis issues I do so I have assisted her with hers. My older sister cannot do most so has her son run them for her. So how to do them?
1) Try them but never to the point where you get frustrated. When that frustration kicks in you begin tensing up and missing the jumps so just back away and come back later or the next day.
2) Some races are easier to do some jump puzzles with but not all so try a different sized toon on different jp’s.
3) Do take the advice of people here and watch some of the videos available. Some do show the easiest routes to take.
4) Trait your falling damage mitigation.
5) Be careful where you use speed buffs. If you are using a signet that keeps your buff active remove it. Some jumps are easier with a speed buff, some are more difficult.
6) Use a mesmer if you have one. Set a portal before those difficult jumps so if you miss you can recall back to where you jumped from, wait until your portal recycles and try again. In the Aetherblade “Not So Secret” JP I used this and it saved me. (although the only diving goggles I have left are the ones in there and I stepped away from it until a later date)
7) Again as other people mentioned the last resort for one that you just cannot complete is to have a mesmer port you through to the end. Most but not all are possible to port directly to the end but some will entail the mesmer setting multiple ports.
Hope that helps!
This is getting frustrating to say the least. Currently Rank 733 in WvW and last night when I ranked up I received 2 IDENTICAL green Cleric shields in the chest. Now that is what I call a great rng.
Tonight, while defending the northern camp in our BL a steel chest dropped at my feet thanks to a well meaning enemy but shortly after I dropped as well and was stomped. So I scurry back, the camp was saved and my steel chest was still there! Excitedly I opened it to get…..wait for it……wait….. 2 Badges and 2 Empyreal fragments!!!!!!! That was it! I looked under the chest, in the chest, shook it out, checked my inventory, looked under the chickens but that was all I got out a steel chest drop!
Truly frustrating!
edit: Forgot to mention I have over 5,000 fragments in the vault already!

Superior Rune of Whine
1) 10% chance to get pwned by the person you just blocked
2) 50% chance that you will get pwned by the next uplevel you meet
3)200% boost to run speed for 2 seconds, can only process once every 5 minutes
4) 75% chance that next yak you meet will kill you
5)15% chance for armour to become “unequipped” in combat
6) 50% chance that the next time you emote over a dead enemy you will die as well but permanently!
These maybe a variant of the moose population where the female has antlers like a male.
I suggest that the OP find the nearest moose and stick his head between the hind legs to check. You may have to do this to several of them. Come back and report to us when you have finished.
Spoken like a true city slicker. As a kid us farm boys used to offer the city slickers 10$ to milk a certain “cow” and point them towards the bull. If you have to stick your head between its legs to figure out if it is male or female then a city slicker you must be. Any good farm kid could tell you from a mile away!
I’m not the only one adressing this. True story.
True randomness is exceedingly kind, exceedingly cruel, and exceedingly moderate and always without any rhyme or reason.
Unfortunately although I agree with the above point, we have no way of knowing exactly what type of RNG GW2 is using. Most games will use a pseudo generator that uses a seed number in the formula. If that seed number is fixed and tied to your account then every character on your account will experience the same pattern of rolls and those patterns will repeat themselves, it is no longer random if a pattern can be established. It would be more random if the seed number varied in some fashion but again we have no way of knowing that. You can read more about this from the wiki or a number of other sites that explain random number generators.
I can see this all playing out in another way.
The Big Surprise:
Queen Jennah announces her upcoming nuptials to Rytlock Brimstone as move to quell separatist sentiment and cement the newly signed alliance between the humans and charr.
Logan, smelling something fishy about the arrangement elopes with a Quaggan Princess and is last seen trying on aquabreathers at the local five and dime.
Trahearne, dazed by the sudden events is found in the Caledon forest two weeks later banging his head against a tree and repeating “this won’t end well” over and over and over. Caithe is behind him trying to convince Trahearne that he is barking up the wrong tree.
Meanwhile it is discovered that Zojja is the mastermind behind the corruption of the Clockwork soldiers as the result of a failed experiment to create a bride for Mr.Sparkles.
Would make the story a bit more interesting!
