Rather that than appear unknowledgeable, bitter and unreasonable by assuming some of the least likely, worst cases.

You keep repeating this like it will stick or something.

I’ve lost count on how many times I’ve seen Obtena being called out for projecting and deflecting.

You’re wrong, GW does do something when you are on a losing streak. It puts you in even worse games so you’ll lose more. Working as intended I think.

That seems to jibe with my experience too, although I don’t have any kind of statistical rigor to back it up.

Long term PvPrs how do you do it.

Vagrant.7206

2600+ games now — been playing since launch, so I’ve seen the ins and outs. Currently sitting in gold (around 1550). Got a bad luck streak lately and bad teams, so I’m lower than usual.

Thing I’ve noticed is that it doesn’t matter what season or time you play — ever since launch you will get stupid people on your team if you solo queue. It might be easier to require 5v5 premades, and incorporate a special LFG tool to make it easier (IE machine will match a party together based on what it thinks, then people can change it up, then enter). In a sense, it already does this. Just doesn’t give you enough time to actually plan.

I would say most of the time the PvP has been hit or miss. The hits have been great. The misses… well, aggravating. It doesn’t help that ArenaNet’s balance patches are few and far between, and often they hit so hard that the meta shifts to a new unbalanced state. Instead of trying to fix it all at once, I suggest they do smaller balance changes constantly, which would make fine tuning much easier and prevent drastic shifts in the meta.

3. Fractal Weapon Boxes are now a very rare drop from completing Fractal Level 40 – 50.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Fractal_Gear_Box

Anet messed up big time….shoulda made it 41+

I might be behind the times because i wasnt around when fractured came out, but according to wiki and ppl who have i guess datamined this exitsts, and it should allow people to pick skins but hasn’t been implemented yet. Maybe there is hope yet altho it will still be rng, but less painful rng

When Fractured! came out they announced these boxes as one of the amazing new features. Then a few days/weeks later when no one had received one, they were like “JK GUYZ THEY ONLY DROP FROM 51 PLUS WHICH YOU CAN’T ACCESS YET LELELELELEL”

Talk about punishing players for no particular reason. This is the only dungeon with a gear grind and we still get treated in this way.

Why are the commander always like ‘’ let’s kill everything in our way, even if it’s our own gods ’’ !?
It make sense if the commander was Charr, Norn, Sylvari or Asura, but Human?!

Humans and the Six gods are something special, something they’re praying and granted blessings from.
Just because the kitten commander and the little annoying Taimi kitten has a theory that Balthazar will take over the world bla bla bla….
It’s one of OUR gods. We just can’t kill our god who has been a blessing for the humans for over 250 years and even more! (GW1~ years aswell)

Just imagine if Jesus Christ or Buddha would come to our world and then we must kill them because we BELIEVE that they are evil?
No but for real….

I am a huge fan of the Six gods, as my favorite race is human and their lore. I just hate how lazy ANet turn something like … oh I don’t know, a GOD to evil just like that and we have to kill them!?

I simply don’t get it. As the commander (in my case, my ‘main’ character is a human) shouldn’t even consider to kill one of our god just like that!!

I was excepting the human characters would be more how Kasmeer reacted when we revealed Lazarus’ imposter’s identity.
Atleast that would make sense!
They are our gods, not a kitten dragon or something we simply need to kill just like that and then happy endings. >_<

If the 2nd Expansion will give us more lore and meeting the rest of the Six gods, I hope the human characters will have their special and unique way, being affected by the influence of the Gods’ return to Tyria, just like Sylvari characters had in the 1st Expansion.

I suspect the episode 6 “reveal” of the next expac will show that Balthazar was not really being evil, just appearing to be. He did, after all, say that there was something bigger going on than Tyria. Maybe Menzies (or Dhuum, or both) is back.

My only complaint with Balthazar is that he doesn’t acknowledge if your character is human. I used the “Hounds of Balthazar” elite skill against his hounds, and he said nothing, which was a massive disappointment.

Playing a toon of the opposite gender?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Vagrant.7206

Vagrant.7206

Yea, I agree OP. You can’t enjoy the game or become immersed in it unless you identify on a fairly deep level with your character. Guys who play female characters are just feminine men in RL (which is fine I guess).

Gotta disagree with you there. My identity is not bound to my gender, so playing a male or female toon doesn’t make me any more or less immersed. I just prefer to play female toons because I like their voices and appearance more.

Additionally, if I wanted to make a generalization about guys who play male characters… are you interested in men? That’s the kind of generalization you’re making.

Years ago a friend of mine said these words

“Well, if i have to play a game and watching my character’s kitten then i prefer to watch a female one”.

Well, i do agree though i play also male characters.

That’s always been pretty much my feeling on the matter. I’ve heard some people call men “gay” for playing female characters in games… but who exactly is staring at men’s butts all day?

Simple… the unconventional races correspond to particular aspects of temperament and personality. Asura appeals to people who idealize intelligence or humor. Sylvari appeals to people with a naturalistic and/or aesthetic ideal. And Charr appeal to people who idealize/admire strength and the projection of power.

So wait…

 • Four ears
 • A tail
 • Fur
 • Very large and sharp canines
 • Claws
 • Walking on all fours
 • Talking like you smoked 6 packs of cigarettes

Those are easy to identify with… but some boobs and makeup aren’t?

Selecting a character is a very personal process. And men who play female characters are responding to feminine aspects in their nature. Don’t be afraid to admit it.

Actually, it’s relatively impersonal to me. I like looking at women’s butts, so I play female characters.

Why do you like looking at men’s butts?

Keep in mind that for, a while there (until November I think), the droprates for fractal skins were accidentally screwed up (for the worse) for fractals 40+. I’m not sure when they first screwed it up, but I didn’t get a single skin for about three months. After the patch notes where they said that they fixed it, I got four more fractal skins I didn’t have before.

Even with that fix, it’s still not enough. The token system needs to be implemented for fractals as well.

Engineer needs some love in PvP

Vagrant.7206

I main engie, FYI.

Right now we’re looking at a class with only one viable build at high level play. That is the scrapper most of you love and hate. The scrapper is in a good place right now, with damage output being about right, and tankiness about right (the projectile hate is a little high, but minor tweaking could fix it). A high skill scrapper can do very well, and a low skill scrapper is a liability.

With a very high level of skill, condi pistol is possible, but the amount of skill required does not correlate with a return of power or utility. It has to be played like a D/P thief, but not nearly as effective. Many builds will outright counter it with minimal effort involved (I’m looking at you necros), in which case, you might as well /cower. The going is slow for a meta that’s extremely fast-paced and spammy.

Rifle is a joke. The projectile hate is real, and the DPS on the rifle is just sad for a two handed weapon. Supplementing with kits rarely works, as the kits you would use for power (grenades, possibly bombs) are also subject to the same issues as the rifle. Turrets are useless, as listed below.

And shield? Been a joke in PvP for a very long time. Just forget it.

That’s ignoring all the other issues — utility skills that aren’t certain gyros or kits are completely underwhelming. Gadgets by and large don’t work and their utility is sad. The turrets have all been left behind with the massive amount of AoE and projectile hate. All the elixirs can be reflected when thrown (seriously, wtf?) and are relatively underwhelming given the importance of those utility slots.

And only a few of the traits are ever worth taking. Almost every build I’ve seen in the last few months has the alchemy line – Mid, mid, up. There’s very little variation, which means the traits need reworking as well.

I’d also like to point out with the turrets specifically, they are something the engineer class was sold on:

Human Cultural Armor in the Gem Store [Merged]

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Vagrant.7206

Vagrant.7206

Based on current exchange rates, you can get 800 gems for ~70 gold.

The flamekissed armor is visually identical to the human tier 3 light armor, but with additional visual effects and available to all races (not human exclusive).

In other words, people who already paid their 100-119g for the human tier 3 cultural set have been gipped, badly. Other people can get a better looking set for 70% of the cost. On top of it all, insult is added to injury because the tier 3 human cultural armor is available to all other races.

It devalues the human tier 3 cultural set for no reason other than ArenaNet trying to make a buck — that is a huge problem.

Hopefully that clarifies any issues.

(FYI, I have Tier 3 medium human armor, and I can see why it would be such a big deal)

Overflows, fewer players, and Large Bosses

in The Origins of Madness

Posted by: Vagrant.7206

Vagrant.7206

So I’m sure everyone is aware of this, and has been for a long time.

Overflows are generally bad to land in. While there’s no actual limit on how well they can do (I’ve seen overflows take out Teqatl), they have a tendency to fail.

Why? The problem can generally be boiled down to 2 reasons:
1) Failure to communicate.
2) Insufficient players.

While there’s little one can do to counter problem #1, this problem can be experienced on any server, regardless if it’s overflow or not.

However, problem #2 can, and should, be dealt with by ArenaNet. Large world bosses are meant to be difficult, not impossible. The issue with having a lack of people is that it makes these world bosses impossible. Not in a figurative sense either — these bosses don’t scale down.

We know that ArenaNet can program group events to scale up or down based on the number of people participating. Why not program large world bosses to do the same? The marionette fight is a perfect example — you need 20-25 people in each lane, roughly. But if there’s only 50 people in your overflow, you’re looking at 10 people in each lane, which is completely insufficient to beat the marionette.

Just my two cents.

Playing a toon of the opposite gender?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Vagrant.7206

Vagrant.7206

I mean, that’s just stereotyping. A deep voice box doesn’t make you stronger/weaker.

I’m not saying it does. But generally speaking, bigger muscles mean a deeper voice. It has to do with how our body’s natural anabolic steroids interact with our vocal folds.

Speak with strong (upper body) female athletes, and you’ll notice their voice has a bit more resonance — it’s obviously still higher pitched than most men, but deeper than most women.

Not fully true. There are scientific studies which DO confirm women are better received in the customer service industry because both men and women would rather be greeted by the female form. This is probably due to our inherent belief (whether that’s natural or society induced) that women are more attractive overall.

You realize those studies are typically conducted in modern, western societies right? You kind of pointed out yourself that this is likely a social construct. Aristotle famously described women as being “deformed men,” and there are many that cultures revere the male form over the female form.

Inner idea of your gender?

Are we back to living in the 60s and 70s? Hahaha.

I have no inner idea of my gender. Like, I dunno about you guys, but my gender or what’s between my legs is not typically something I think about, you know what I mean

I’m engaged to a trans person, and I had difficulty understanding the concept at first myself. It’s easier to explain like this — how do you label yourself? I would describe myself as a liberal atheist, for example. You’ll notice no mention of gender in there — because it’s not a big deal to me. It isn’t a big deal for everybody — just as it isn’t for you or me. But for some people, their gender is a crucial part to their identity.

Also, I want to make the distinction between sex and gender — Gender is a social construct, whereas sex is biological in origin. Gender is a social construct laid on top of the biology, and what is “feminine” or “masculine” changes based on the society. Some people who are trans don’t want a sex-change operation because they associate with the gender in their society, but don’t feel a need to change their genitals to match.

"Leaked" Engie Spec

in Engineer

Posted by: Vagrant.7206

Vagrant.7206

The Scrapper traitline is all but mandatory for pvp/wvw – even for non-hammer builds. If you don’t take it, you’re at a huge disadvantage losing access to function gyro. It is by far the worst elite spec mechanic – useless in pve, but good at what it does in competitive game modes.

It also comes with some decent defensive traits and gives you access to sneak + purge gyros.

That’s because it was almost exclusively designed for competitive game modes. Think about it:

 • Function gyro only works on downed state enemies/allies. The situation where that would be most useful is in competitive modes. When allies are downed in PvE, generally the whole team picks them up, rendering the gyro unhelpful at best, a distraction at worst. If it had a “search and rescue” function to scan an area for downed allies, it might be more useful. And in PvE, almost no enemies enter a downed state (besides the Toxic Alliance).
 • Hammer is tanky, but not a good team support tool. That makes it great for controlling areas in competitive situations, but underwhelming in PvE where other classes can provide good team support AND tanking ability (mesmers, warriors).
 • Much of scrapper is designed around short dazes/interrupts (no matter how much they nerfed it). While CC bar does matter for some things, other classes do it better in PvE (mesmer/necro)
 • Scrapper was the last elite spec they designed. That meant that they had limited time to choose where to focus its development. Since ArenaNet was largely pushing for eSports, that meant they were going to focus its development on PvP over PvE. And it shows.
 • Most gyros have single-target functions, or their functions serve extremely limited roles. This cripples their usefulness in PvE (besides sneak gyro in limited situations)
 • They did very little (if anything) to supplant or provide an alternative to the DPS provided by kits. Kits have been our biggest damage dealers since day 1, and still are. And in DPS Wars 2, biggest numbers are best numbers.

Armor repair has no purpose anymore

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Vagrant.7206

I think armor repair should only apply in open-world PvE, where dying should be an inconvenience to encourage players to learn the mechanics better.

Dungeons, fractals, and raids already have repair stations right where you respawn, so it’s not exactly a punishment for dying, just an annoyance. Any instanced content should not have armor damage, IMO.

Engineeers...what to do with them

in Engineer

Posted by: Vagrant.7206

Vagrant.7206

Engineer has problems but turrets aren’t it.

The real problem engineer has is the fact that kits are better in every situation because they are the generalist tool for the generalist class.

This.

We’re still severely hamstrung by kits. Our core weapons are underwhelming without assistance from kits (protip to ANet: Reverse the trend, and buff the hell out of our core weapons and reduce kit effectiveness). This limits our builds massively (practically requiring kits), making them significantly more complicated and less fun.

Last time I checked p/p kit engi is one of the highest dps specs in the game if played properly.

Don’t mistake benchmark tests for reality. Watch those benchmark tests and tell me you can reproduce them in a real gameplay scenario.

The other thing I would point out is to not miss the forest for the trees. Most other classes have options with build design on the high end (particularly warriors), while we’re mostly limited to 2 builds in high-end PvE and 1 build in PvP.

PLEASE let heat benefit more than just sword

in Engineer

Posted by: Vagrant.7206

Vagrant.7206

It would be cool, and I fully support this change, but sword is pretty pathetic as is. You have PLENTY of reason to continue using Rifle and Pistol. In fact, I think most ‘meta’ Holomancer builds will continue using Rifle and Pistol.

Which is saying a lot, because all of our core weapons are pretty crap compared to other classes.

It’s almost like their engineer “theme” is “weak.”

Yeah if in fact heat damage is limited to sword that has GOT to change definitely because it pigeonholes the class into a single weapon and many people including me, hybridize our elite specs to suit our needs. Losing that damage to rifle for example is simply unacceptable.

The funny thing is all the people claiming it would unbalance the class. Umm… have they seen our core weapons? They’re all bad. Giving them heat buffs would only bring them up to an acceptable level. Considering that these core weapons absolutely require kits to be useful, and PF locks us out of kits, there needs to be work done.

Rifle:

 • Garbage damage in PvE.
 • Serious projectile hate in PvP and WvW.
 • Single-target, moderate damage, moderate CC’s = weak in PvP and WvW

Pistol:

 • Acceptable damage in PvE, when combined with kits, but worthless compared to grenade kit
 • Serious projectile hate in PvP and WvW
 • Condi-only, vulnerable to heavy condi removal or reversal by virtually any necro
 • Auto attack is trash, only skills worth bothering with are blowtorch and lightning shot

Shield:

 • Actually ok, but cooldowns are crap

I’d also point out that engineer is the class worst affected by projectile flight times (by rapidly strafing many of our shots can be avoided), but that seems like piling on at this point. Hell, a heat bonus affecting projectile flight times might actually be a serious buff.

ANet: We need to talk about the engineer.

in Engineer

Posted by: Vagrant.7206

Vagrant.7206

Preface: I main engineer. I have somewhere around 3k hours on it. I’ve been playing since launch.

To the forum moderators

Please don’t relegate this post to the engineer forum. The devs don’t look at it. Nobody on the staff at ANet seems to look at it either: we still have a thread from the BWE3 of HoT pinned to the top of the forum. It’s a year and a half old, and the last time we saw a dev on the forum.

See for yourselves, if you don’t believe me.

To the ANet Devs

The last few balance patches to engineer have left me wondering if anybody on the development team plays engineer for more than a brief passing period. The reason I wonder this is because there doesn’t seem to be a rhyme or reason behind the changes. Let’s take a look at some examples:

 • Blunderbuss: This skill has been unsplit from PvP and will now deal the higher (10%) damage values in all areas of the game. Increased bleeding stacks from 1 – 4 to 2 – 5, based on range. Increased bleeding duration from 4 seconds to 5 seconds.

Blunderbuss is skill #3 on an engineer’s rifle. The rifle is currently suffering from a host of different issues including underwhelming damage and generally being out-of-date. The rifle is not, however, suffering from a lack of condition damage. The rifle was, and has always been, a power-based weapon. What on earth is the reasoning behind bleeding instead of vulnerability? Why is this skill, which is so hard to pull off properly, being given a minor condi damage buff?

 • Blowtorch: The number of burning applications that this skill applies has been increased from 1/2/3 to 2/3/4.

This is #4 skill on Pistol/Pistol offhand. Blowtorch was already a go-to on the condi engineer’s playbook. It wasn’t hurting for lack of burning. So why was it buffed? What was the reasoning? I’m not complaining because I love the increase in DPS, but why buff the meta build even further?

 • Elixir U: The recharge of this skill has been reduced from 45 seconds to 40 seconds.

Utility skill that gives you quickness for about 4-5 seconds. The toolbelt skill either puts up a reflect wall or smoke screen (50/50). The thing is… Elixir U is almost never used, in any build. I only ever put it on for the toolbelt reflects in the Uncategorized Fractal. Why is this getting a minor change to cooldown when it’s still so underwhelming?

 • Big Ol’ Bomb: This skill is now affected by Short Fuse. The visual size of this bomb has been increased by 33%.

This bug in Big Ol’ Bomb has been around since launch, roughly. Why has it taken this long to finally get fixed?

 • Explosion: Skills that count as explosions for the traits Steel-Packed Powder, Explosive Powder, and Shrapnel are now marked with a skill fact. Scrapper gyro detonations are now considered explosions. Skills that do not hit the enemy, such as Smoke Bomb and Magnetic Bomb, are no longer considered explosions for combat clarity reasons.

Another case of bugs being fixed that have been around a while. Used to be that smoke bomb (a non-damaging bomb) could inflict shrapnel’s effect onto enemies. Why did this take so long to fix?

And these are just a handful of the odd changes made by devs in the recent past. You can probably go back over the last year and wonder what they’re thinking. My bet is that they don’t play the class and don’t know how to balance it.

The Crux of the Matter

I’ve read some great suggestions on the engineer forum. I’ve read some bad suggestions. But what I haven’t read is a recent dev post discussing any changes. Gifts are granted from on high, and gifts are taken away from high. But there is very little communication between the players and the devs around the engineer.

And this is starting to come to a head. Build diversity for engineers is at an all-time low. We have one primary build for PvE, and one primary build for PvP. Anything else is very situational and will get you mocked. Yes, all classes are suffering from a lack of diversity (HoT aggravated the problem with powercreep, IMO). But engineer is probably in the saddest state I’ve ever seen it — the vast majority of utilities are never used (and I mean never), I haven’t seen rifle or shield used competitively in well over a year, and there are many completely useless traits that are never touched.

So ANet. We need to talk about the engineer.

Engineer 2017, is it worth to play ?

in Engineer

Doesn’t qtfy benchmarks put Engineer as the second highest DPS against small targets?
Less than 1K DPS below condition daredevil.

Benchmarks are here: http://qtfy.eu/benchmarks/

IMO, most of the benchmarks are pretty stupid given that they assume absolute perfect timing and placement. Reality is much messier, and the engineer has the single most complicated rotation. It can be simplified of course, but that still also assumes the enemy is standing still (which is exceptionally rare)

The problem with engineer is that their playstyle has been stagnant since HoT released. There has been little overall variation in anything. If you haven’t played in >1 year then this shouldn’t matter, but for us experienced engineers it is kind of frustrating.

Since before HoT released? Hell, the PvE playstyle was stagnant long before that! The only difference HoT made was making us all trade in our handy dandy rifles for hammers.

Does anybody on the ANet balance team remember this from about 2 months ago?

We’ve been making some gradual changes to pistol and rifle, hoping to bring them a bit more in line with hammer. As for Jump Shot, it’s difficult to land both the first and second attacks consistently unless you’re cleaving a downed player. To address this, we’ve moved some of the initial damage to the end of the attack, making it easier to spike. The total damage done by the skill will be the same.

 • Blunderbuss: The damage of this ability has been increased by 10% at all range thresholds in PvP only.
 • Jump Shot: The damage of the initial jump has been reduced by 56%. The damage of the landing has been increased by 28%

Hi balance team! It’s been months since you suggested improving Pistol and Rifle in PvP and PvE. The changes we got back then were relatively minor, and really didn’t do anything to help the overall situation for these weapons.

Today we got some improvements to kits, which is great for us condi engineers in PvE.

But pistol and rifle still suffer horrible issues in PvP, making them non-viable. Why has it been months since ANet acknowledged the issue, and they STILL haven’t responded with anything meaningful? The class is suffering badly from a lack of build diversity, and this balance patch does little to address the issue. Engineer needs some love, particularly in PvP.

Case in point: The changes to blunderbuss. Rifle has always been power-based weapon, not condition-based damage. Its main DPS comes from its autoattack. The other skills are utilities. So why does the balance team insist on giving blunderbuss more bleeds? This solves a problem no rifle engineer has. What gives?

Does the balance team not understand the class or its weapons? Do they not realize the issue with projectile hate right now? Do they not recognize that most of the engineers main weapons (and some of its kits) are projectile-based?

How would you redesign the engineer?

A fundamental difference with engineer is that we have to use slot skills for absolutely mission critical kit skills. No other class has that problem.

They tried to address that with the hammer, but the result is that in PvP, hammer is the only viable meta build, and the rest of our few weapons have been left in the dust.

"Leaked" Engie Spec

in Engineer

Vagrant.7206

However, Anet could not finish Scrapper’s original design on time before HoT release, most likely because it was their last Elite Spec to work on once the other Professions were finished beofre HoT, and had to “Scrap” it and make Scrapper into what it is now.

Scrapper as of now is more like a Core profession +1 Elite Spec that brings no real unique mechanics and only add the F button for just long range res and finisher due to being unfinished.

How much you wanna bet this will happen again?

Season 5 Class Balance Thread

Vagrant.7206

sitting at zero because I got no engi changes I liked to even bother with pvp :I

WTB more base engi buffs and scrapper nerfs because scrapper screwed base engi.
MORE RIFLE BUFFS PLZ and quit nerfing things out of nowhere without any reason to.

the rifle change was not a buff, it was more loss of dmg. which was the exact opposite if what they were trying to do (bring it up to par with hammer).

Too true. That Jump Shot change feels like a nerf given how hard it is to land such a long telegraphed skill. Maybe if it was faster or had evades..

Things that were (I think) designed to nerf Scrapper, but ended up killing Base Engi even more:

 • Gear Shield 3s->2s – Base Engi needs a long block for defense. It is the only defensive skill in a lot of builds.
 • Healing Turret 0.5s->0.75s – Base Engi can no longer rely on HT to go off when cast. There’s a very real risk of it being interrupted or destroyed before it finishes. This hurts Scrapper, yes, but it hurts Base more because of the lack of defensive weapon skills on Rifle/Pistol.

Ultimately though, It’s projectile hate and HoT power creep that are forcing certain playstyles on pvp. It’s far too easy to just sit on point and spam aoe.

Here’s what I see when I play p/p Engi:

 • Warrior: Ignores conditions for 30+ seconds + reflects on all blocks. Have to kite the ENTIRE time, but first I have to get them to trigger berserker stance.
 • Mesmer: Nearly infinite blocks (which also reflect). Then spiked, then back to the temporary invulnerability… spiked, blocks again… I just avoid mesmers because there’s very little I can do.

the amount of misinformation here is insane. 30+ seconds? where are you getting that? because obviously me playing warrior for several months isnt enough.

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Berserker_Stance

While I was exaggerating, this alone is 12-15 seconds of resistance. Combine with healing signet and you have 18-21 seconds of resistance. Run away and come back and you can repeat the process, as I have seen many warriors do. But that’s 18 seconds of my build being totally kitten while you’re fully powered. All I can do is hope I can cause you to trigger berserker stance early and kite for 20 seconds until I can finally do some damage.

Condi engi is in a real bad way right now — it’s viable only due to player skill. Any newbie trying to play it will fail spectacularly. Rifle engi is just flat out pointless at this point.

Variety of things:

 • Detonating gyros raises necro life force. Do this in the beginning of a match.
 • Engi puts out a lot of might with HGH. Elixir Gun 5 and 4 provide might to all nearby allies.
 • Elixir Gun 3 really eliminates a lot of condis on allies if you’re fighting a condi heavy team.
 • All the fields you’re putting down can assist in finishers. I like to put poison field down and blast it for AoE weakness on enemies.
 • Obviously healing turret (and its toolbelt skill) and elixir 5 heal allies.
 • Your gyros also aid nearby allies with whatever their effect is.
 • You can serve as a shield for teammates under fire with your reflects.
 • Detonated gyros provide superspeed (which is all-around really useful)
 • Function gyro can be used to rez/stomp people while dealing with other issues. My personal favorite is pulling an enemy off of a downed ally and letting the res gyro work it’s magic while I have the enemy distracted.
 • You can put out a large amount of AoE damage in a short period, which is really good at keeping enemies away from their allies, or from your allies.

Is engie zerker or condi and what about scrapper and the holosmith

In PvP and WvW, running zerker on engineer will get you killed faster than you can yell “Elixir S!” I wouldn’t do it unless you really like high risk, low reward. In PvE, zerker engi can be useful for the power bomber build.

Condi engineer is primarily useful in PvE as well, and boasts one of the highest theoretical DPS’s, although in practicality it’s near impossible to achieve without being a perfect robot. That said, it is more robust and versatile than the power bomber build.

Scrapper is pretty poor in PvE, given its low damage. It’s tanky in PvP and WvW, and virtually a necessity in those two modes if you don’t like to die frequently.

Holosmith seems intended to be a high-damage, power spec, but I’m not sure how well that will actually play out.

I do agree that most of the outfits fit a rougue character than a ranger or even an engineer.

That’s sort of the thing. Thief gets all the design love for medium sets, generally.

They just don’t seem to know what to do with engineer or ranger, which is strange, because they have a whole previous game to draw upon.

I just had two matches in a row with all kinds of wonkiness…

First one we were clearly facing high/top level players, they coordinated very well and wrecked us. While I was 1v2’ing (on my scrapper, don’t get excited), they murdered my team 3v4.

Second matchup… we lose a player 1/4 the way through the match (DC’ed), and we still won 4v5 560 to 240 on the ship map.

MMR hell explanation

Vagrant.7206

I have to wonder what you guys that haven’t experienced this get out of constantly trying to explain to everyone how bad these players are. Do you feel compelled to justify your own win streaks.

Just to be clear, are you making the argument that you have a 20% winrate and it’s not your fault? I just want to make sure I know what you’re trying to say.

You’re also making a huge assumption with your math that people with poor winrates can play 100’s of games. I’ve maybe played 130 this season and I’m in legendary right now. And now I’m stuck because the progression gives me 3 wins… then 4 losses, rinse and repeat.

the ‘progress fairy’ doesn’t ‘give’ you 3 wins and 4 loses, you have simply progressed to the point where you are slightly below average. How else could it be, at some point this happens to all apart from the most skilled teams in legendary.

Slightly below average? The player pool is so small in legendary it keeps pitting me against people on the top of the leaderboards. So I don’t play it any more. And now people are complaining of hourlong queues in legendary. Funny how that works.

That’s not below average — that’s below the top players’ average.
