Or, we can make a /duel command so we can duel anywhere we want, including the arena.

Although I’d thought about this as well, I feel like new players would be challenged to duels and then destroyed and it would probably be a negative experience. By making it so that you could only duel in a certain place it would encourage players to gather there for events like fight clubs and player run 1v1 tournaments. Each server could also have its own leaderboard inside of the pavilion for the top players that people could use to make bets off of.

Finally, rather than seeking opinions, you should actually take a look at top PvP win percentage. You should check the top ranking matches and see if thieves contribute to the winning rate. That is a far more accurate representation of the current situation rather seeking forum users claims.

Both WHaO and RaO are in a good place (with or without the WHaO buff, it’s still an excellent heal that’s good vs burst damage).

Guard needs a different functionality. Protect Me in this meta of things like burn guards and burst comps is just a big red sign saying “Kill my pet and kill me 5 seconds after”. If arenanet wants to focus on Shouts now, please first look at Guard and Protect Me.

Shouts should be pet/ranger oriented, so RaO is a perfect example of that. It powers up both the pet and Ranger.

“Guard” in my opinion should just be entirely reworked: It’s totally outdated and the functionality is minimal. Just give us a new skill.

Protect Me: There are lots of options for this skill now. What I would opt for is both Ranger and pet gain Protection and Resistance. Pet could also have a short taunt added to it.

1. Empathic Bond: This trait is really poorly designed and implemented. It’s annoying to me as a ranger that I can’t clear when I want to, and it’s annoying to people I fight that their condis are removed randomly and automatically! It’s also annoying to my poor pet which takes all my condis up its rear.

Solution: Change this trait to remove conditions upon pet swap, possibly move it to the beastmastery trait line.

2. Reaper’s Protection: It’s just flat out annoying to be feared for 3 seconds because you landed a good CC on a necromancer.

Solution: ? Possibly gain life force when CCed, would have to be tested

3. Incendiary Powder: I’m sorry, this trait needs to go. Engineer’s most damaging condition on a completely undodgeable, random proc is not skillful.

Solution: Remove incendiary powder as a trait, give Engineers compensation with things like more condi clear, better autoattacks, lowered cooldowns on elixirs, etc. This would help solve engineers hardcountering thieves but being hardcountered by necros.

4. Renewing Stamina: Arenanet needs to decide whether eles should have: permanent vigor, high protection up time, good condi removal, or high passive healing. Because at the moment they have all 4. They have already nerfed other classes access to vigor, and now would be the perfect time to nerf eles vigor, as the class is currently a bit overtuned.

Solution: Maybe give vigor on using an arcane skill (?), or change this trait to something else entirely.

It kind of depends on whether you are looking for area damage/ single target, and whether you want a pve or pvp build.

For pvp, full berserkers with 25/30/0/0/15, power/precision signets and d/p would get you a lot of single target dps

For pve, sword is faster for killing mobs

This is about as far away from a Condition meta we’ve ever been lol. With the exception of burn guardian, there are no pure condition builds left. Yes, Cele Ele/Necro can output decent conditions but they are more hybrid builds.

Condition Ranger/Engineer are both dead. There is literally no point to playing them in matches stacked with transfer Necros, SA thieves, and Elementalists with extreme amounts of condi clear.

I feel more effective on a 60 game d/d ele than on my 2500 game Ranger or 1200 game necro. Maybe it’s because I like close quarters melee/hybrid combat but really, ele (d/d in particular) just feels like easymode with spam heals, close to 70-80% protection uptime, and burst mobility.

I forgot that you should be able to win 1v1s on a class that brings extremely high mobility (including unparalleled vertical mobility), extremely high support in Shadow Refuge and extremely high damage potential, as well as the ability to never die when played properly on a Marauder build, such as Toker in WTS.

I bought this skin specifically for the way it fit with my armor set.

I didn’t watch much of that video… all I can really say is that until we get this disaster of a leaderboard fixed, Arenanet shouldn’t be giving any lectures on how to build a competitive community.

Grouch, and whoever else works with him, has done a good job creating tournament and events, but that’s the only decent thing happening in the PvP community right now.

What do you guys think Arenanet’s goals for PvP actually are?

We’ve seen a lot more tournaments happen starting in 2014-2015, but we’ve also seen the removal of features like Solo Queue and the leaderboard.

To me, it feels like the community organization side of things is going well. That side is presumably handled by Grouch (Josh Davis) and that’s one part of why we have weekly ESL tournaments and tournaments like ToL and WTS.

On the flip side, it feels like the infrastructure developers for the PvP side of the game couldn’t give a rat’s kitten about creating proper systems for a competitive community – things like MMR/skill based leaderboards, fair matchmaking systems, and competitive, exclusive rewards for performing well (Llamas are the biggest joke I’ve seen in a game tbh). The leaderboard has actually gotten way worse, competitive solo players are quitting the game, and the tournament scene is stagnant with the same players competing week after week.

What do you guys think?

I think there’s an expansion coming and you should all wait for it. If you’re here long enough you’ll figure out that they don’t release anything new till they’ve got a full package. Therefore, the only time you’ll be seeing anything new is closer to the expansion, especially for PvP.

Obviously they release things without having a full package, e.g., the broken leaderboard they made months ago and still haven’t fixed.

The biggest thing you should know about thief for sPvP purposes is this:

Your role is to end the fights your teammates start very quickly.

The number one thing I see beginner thieves do is try and fight 1v1s on enemy capped nodes. The fact is that thief is best played as hard to avoid burst on a target already engaged in a fight with other teammates.

As a beginner thief, generally the best plan of action is to stick between home and mid and burst down people, and only go far if you see it’s open and you can get a quick decap.

A trait like Diamond Skin is poorly designed… A cooler trait idea might be an Earth GM trait that reads

Immune to burning while attuned to fire
Immune to blind while attuned to air
Immune to chill while attuned to water
Immune to bleed while attuned to earth

This would promote active play: say you’re been chased by a shortbow 1 spamming spirit ranger? switch to earth and negate a huge chunk of his damage. It also would promote active play by opponents and it would be definitely worthy of a GM trait

Ele has an extremely small HP pool that can really be decimated by burning/bleeding unlike classes like warrior/necro. I don’t think this would be overpowered if it was placed as a GM trait in the earth line (even though I don’t know much about eles). And remember, as soon as they switched attunements they could once again be hit with the conditions. Most high level tournament eles switch attunements frequently so it would be a way of adding a new level of skill to damage/soft cc prevention

Lol my frand DD Elementalists will still be strong! Might is still a valuable boon and Elementalists will still be able to stack up an amazing amount for themselves and their team! Their offense was toned down which is good because no bunker should be able to output the damage that current DD Elementalists can do! people don’t realize just how strong the double warrior is.
Don’t forget that APeX beat 55HP 2-1 in a scrimm (on NA servers), including a game on legacy that was 70-500.

I’m aware, the differences between team power level on NA/EU aren’t as big as the Twitch EU fanboys would have you think.

Double warrior is going to be one of the best options until might stacking gets nerfed, because you can’t really beat:

-3800 power
-3000+ toughness
-800 condi damage
-AoE CC
-AoE burn
-Great condi clear
-Personal stability
-Endure Pain/Berserker’s stance

Community Map Design

One of the things that irks me the most about WvW is cookie cutter borderlands.

What if Arenanet got some collaboration going with community graphic artists and gave each borderland a unique skin according to the world’s theme? For example, Crystal Desert’s borderland would be a desert with desert castles, Northern Shiverpeaks would have a Norn theme to it. It would feel like each different borderland you stepped into was a unique place with its own unique community of guilds.

The maps could stay exactly the same in terms of functional design, but I’d love to experience the different skins in each borderland with new worlds each week.

I feel like this could keep WvW more fresh for a lot of people, but maybe I am wrong. It also might take up way too much design time, but it is just something I’d absolutely love to see added to the game.

I also feel like having unique looking borderlands would contribute to server pride/community.

Shortbow is now one of the worst weapons in the game, attacking with shortbow in a team fight, you might as well not even be there, and you are almost guaranteed to take more damage than you deal (lmao).

1. Slow down the Shortbow auto , but give it a guaranteed bleed, increased power scaling AND torment if hitting from 180 degrees behind target, this would make it way better in team fights, in 1v1s it wouldn’t be that much better since the target can usually face you.

2. This skill is fine as is in my opinion

3. Make this a leap finisher.

4. Change the bleeds from pet into torment

5. Add conditional confusion to this, also reduce the cooldown by 5 seconds.

Another possible change is to take the axe auto attack and give it to shortbow with bleeds on it, then give axe a real condition melee chain.

I think Supply crate definitely needs a buff. It needs to drop twice as many turrets as well as all the turrets using overcharged abilities for the entire duration. Then engis will be balanced.

Or just lower the cooldown to 45 seconds so they can have it for every 1v1 they encounter.

Because Arenanet seems to have not erased MMR, league play is just one giant grind to get to a legend rank that means nothing.

As long as the game still makes matches based off MMR and not league rank, you could have people with 1000 mmr in diamond tier vs other 1000s, and people with 3000 vs other 3000s. It doesn’t make any sense, but it looks like leagues will be another failure in an extremely, disturbingly long line of failures for PvP infrastructure.

On a brighter note, the Guild Challenger league IS MMR based and I think will be healthy for the competitive scene.

Seriously, the scoreboard is straight up useless as it currently stands. Give us real stats like:

damage done/taken
conditions applied/removed
boons applied/removed
primary kills (most damage on target)
assist kills
time spent in combat
personal healing/outgoing healing
etc.

The possibilities for this are great, and it would also shed some light on certain aspects of the meta.

Regardless of whether the new leaderboard is fair or not, I’d rather see people playing lots of games because of the leaderboard, than not playing so they can boost their rating by the weird decay system.

Top teams will continue to show they are top teams, and I’m sure the system can be changed so that the amount of games played becomes less of a factor if it becomes problematic. For example, if “Lexicety” stays as #1 rank with 46% win ratio. lol

This data looks pretty normal to me, definitely see more Engies than any other profession in Solo queue. I’d assume that it’s because of the extreme intricacy and difficulty of Engineer gameplay that draws so many Solo queue players to this class.

Let’s be honest: Glyphs are still gonna suck after this. They need cooldown reductions, and I don’t get poison on Alignment at all…what exactly is the theme of glyphs? Hell, what is a glyph? The elite glyph seems just like a crappy form of retal on exceedingly short range, why would I use this over any other elite?

The Celestial Avatar CD changes look ok, but if I understand correctly, the attack charging is going from .25% to .5% which is still really bad…and the healing percent is getting nerfed significantly…this looks bad. It would be far better to just give healing a 2% charge and damage a 1% charge. 50 hits of healing for a full bar or 100 hits of damage.

All the other changes seem pretty good, but really, at this point glyphs just look sloppily constructed. We will have to wait and see how Celestial Avatar charging feels, but I’m not that hopeful. To fully charge it now only requires 1 minute and 40 seconds of continuous shortbow autoattacking, so good luck with that.

And now I’m remembering how I felt about leaving Druid to the last beta weekend and how I knew it wouldn’t be changed significantly enough in time before launch.

Champion titles and Unranked arena

Uh I see no problem letting unranked queue progress those titles as long as it remains a 5v5 mode with MMR, its basically the same as solo queue, just without the rating.

Those titles are to show your experience on a class, they aren’t really very exclusive or prestigious, and they don’t even show that you are good at the class that you have them for. They are just nice titles to show that you won a bunch of games in pvp with a certain class.

I think that it would be cool if they added more titles such as Expert Magus, Legendary Magus. “Legendary” could be for 1000 ranked wins or something.

I personally think that right now Thief is extremely strong in team queue, although apparently quite a few teams don’t agree with me. Guardian is essential for big midfights and proper ressing. Spirit Ranger is still strong but definitely not as good as it was. Warrior is acting as an all purpose 1v1/teamfight cleave/stomp monster and its still acceptable to run two of them at once. They lack any real counter. Necromancer has gotten quite a bit weaker except for minion builds which aren’t amazing in team queue. The vigor nerf on engineers is definitely noticeable and I don’t even play one. They are still great, but I don’t think they are a must have like the rest of what I view as the top tier. Mesmer right now are kind of a wildcard. I think we will see them reentering the meta soon.

Probably longer, seeing as it isn’t broken, there’s just a high quantity of fools that think it is.

Yknow what I did when pets started dealing twice as much damage as normal? I reported it. I didn’t come on the forums claiming it had always been like that. Grow up.

And neither did I. I hopped ingame and tested out the iWarlock thoroughly. It has precisely the same damage coefficient and scaling as pre-patch. People are just having fits because of the strength runes and battle sigil combo boosting damage.

On the topic of Search and Rescue. What if it was reworked to be a ground targted ability that hte pet would run into an area and pulse out aoe healing. That healing would have a similar affect to a weaker version of transfusion on the downed. But it would also affect those still standing.
