You’re an elementalist, you should have one of the best escape/mobility abilities of any profession. Something a lot of people complain about. With that, you should easily be able to recover and come back.

Q7: My total CPU usage/load never reach even close to 100%. Why is FPS & GPU usage is low?
A: This occurs in system with Multi-core CPU. GW2 main thread will operate on one core maxing it out, while the other core waits on it. GW2 effectively only use 2-3 cores to it’s potential on system with Quad core or higher. Because of this you will never see 100% usage.

Q8: None of my individual cores ever come close to 100%, but my FPS & GPU usage is still low.
A: You need to look at the per-thread CPU usage; ProcessExplorer will allow you to view it. Windows will bounce threads around to different cores depending on whichever is most free or not loaded. Because it does that so rapidly and the monitoring tool polls at a slower rate it can give an illusion no cores are maxed and all cores more evenly spread out.

GW2 actually uses about 50 threads, and uses every core. However, GW2 only has 3 threads that puts a large load on the CPU. One of those thread will be at a % just under 100/#core. (e.g 25% for quadcore) Most likely that thread is the main game loop coordinating everything. Its working on a fully loaded core and can’t go any faster making all other core/thread/gpu wait hence lowering fps.

Example: Quad core system. Each core should handle 25% cpu usage. There will be a GW2 thread on a core which has usage of near 25%, this is your bottlenecking thread holding everything down. http://i.imgur.com/L0Pom.png

Gw2 is heavily dependent on “single thread performance”, and a thread only works on one core at a time. So, having a faster core is more beneficial than having lots of core that are slower.

Alternatively, you can test by disabling one of your CPU core. The result will be zero impact on FPS assuming you have 3+ cores, because GW2 only effectively have 3 threads actually using CPU load.

that is way below minimum requirement, it won’t install. The client itself uses some graphic power to run. Even if you didn’t manage to install, gw2 wouldn’t get playable fps.

The game wants 2GB of “FREE” available ram, not total installed.

If you are happy with a 550 ti on your desktop and want something similar for a laptop. Find one with GTX 560M/6750M or better. Those mobile GPU are comparable to your 550 ti.

However, those laptop tend to be about $1000 or higher.

Try doing a directx repair install/update. (See Part 1.1)

Every game uses different directx files and version. One reason why STEAM Client makes you install directx everytime you get a new game.

If you have 3rd party software overlays like MSI Afterburner or mumble etc it could cause crashes. Depends what error code you get.

Just curious did you have Windows set GW2 volume to zero?

Both of Mrowqa.3861 CPU and GPU are bottleneck still. CPU likely maxing out it’s working core, and GPU is at 99%. I highly suggest overclocking.

If your FPS significantly goes up when lowering the resolution & graphic settings to low, than upgrading that GTX 260 will let you run at that FPS, but higher resolution/setting. In this case the GPU is more bottlenecked than CPU.

I can say for sure that the Core i3 3220 is still not fast enough to run without bottleneck. People with Core i5 2500k OC to 4.5ghz still experience it, that cpu scores 6507 without OC.

However, I do think upgrading the GTX 260 would be a good idea. It only scores 1149 which is rather low for GW2, but that depends on what resolution/settings you like to play at.

WTB thief stability. The map is completely imbalanced across classes.

You can steal stability. You can port back after being fear/knocked off. You can blind/stealth/scorpion-wire. Thieves are one of the most annoying if played correctly to knock off for a kill.

Gives us the template system that has been mentioned by the devs to be in the works for months now. That will help with skyhammer. Some people are unwilling to make a specific build/character just for one map and swap to it.

GW2 is rather demanding on the CPU. BSOD typically points to driver or hardware issues. Both 124 and 9c leads to hardware stability issues. Time to look into the bios settings.

Run some monitoring tools and see what changes on the graphs as you get those 1 second freezes. (See Part 4.1)

So.. waited 12 minutes for a soloq.

Noticed a player on my team just running in circles in the spawn area. He was just admiring the guy using the treb.

I asked “What are you doing? Are you a Rank1?”
(no response)

Later on, he follows me around the map like a lost kid in the mall, just watching me kill people.

Afterwards scoreboard showed he was a rank1, in a team of 30-50s.

He finally responds “what is rank1”

I told him "You should try doing hotjoin matches first before tournament/arena. "

tl;dr PvP UI/System is not intuitive for new players. Yea, there is a PVP instructor in the mist, but few actually talk to him. Also, the PVP menu icon at the top lets new players stumble into arena queue without knowing what it is.

you can also try deleting the file which restores all your settings to default

For gaming lower latency/pingtime is best. EVDO will be better. But you didn’t list what the ISP bandwidth cap is. Often wireless/mobile provider has very low caps. You will need a decent amount to be able to update the game on patch day etc.

Did you install all your programs back again, and then GW2? The purpose of a clean install was to eliminate any doubt that 3rd party software could have some how cause issues. So Clean windows + updates + drivers, nothing else, then GW2.

You could also try underclocking the GPU see if that works.

Skyhammer is fun! Only map that actually changes your play style or gives us any chance of different game mode.

Seems like hardware issues. You claim its not overheating, but how are you measuring?Have you been using HwINFO or similar tool to monitor CPU/GPU/chipset temps during FOTM run?
