Ranger nerfed in PvE for PvP purposes

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

The problem is that if someone is still playing a ranger in any dungeon then you know they don’t care about being an asset to the team and are therefore probably not going to be very good. I really enjoy playing my necro alot so whenever there is an event I want to do or something easy I run necro, but I would never bring it into a dungeon and become a liability when I could bring a much better class. I’d rather try to be an asset to the team than a nuisance who is having fun.

It’s just CoF, but it does show that Necro damage isn’t really that far behind.

No, what this video shows is that CoF is 4 minutes of running. The actual parts where they had to kill things (Slave Driver, End Boss) were MUCH slower. The slave driver had half of his HP after a timewarp.. the effigy fight was just a sad sight to see for anyone who knows how fast this boss can drop in a good group, and not necessarily a war group, even a group with thieves and ele can down this much faster.
That time warp at the effigy.. you might as well ask why you’re bringing a mesmer to such a run.. you know, with one warrior rather than your mesmer the run would’ve been faster. Seriously. The mesmer is useless if your group can’t even do some might stacking. The war would bring a fire field, blast his own, use FGJ, warbanner at the end (perma fury with just one war when you can use that banner), bring discipline and strength and actually make your 4necro/1war run faster. Banners are blast finisher and a war can blast it three to four times all by himself during the duration of the longbow field. The rest of the group can pick up and blast some too.
A 4 necro group would take HOURS to complete a fractal 48 run where you can’t just skip everything, particularly true of the dredge fractal.

This group could certainly do a little bit better as other necro players have said in the other thread but this would still be a disaster in anything that would require cleaving damage.

Warriors are the easiest to pump good dps, while other classes need more work (thieves have to use blast finishers on fire fields to gain good might stack etc), but overall, if you want fast runs without doing fastest run, most classes can fill in.. except for necro and rangers really. Those two.. have nothing of worth to bring.

Nike’s necro can replace one warrior somewhat but that class is a leech. Thieves and ele can blast fields and give ton of might stack (and the update seems like it’s going to bring fury too) for example to the whole group. You can have a guardian who enhances the whole group might stacking too. The necro.. is a class that just tag along with better classes. It can’t stand on its own in any way shape or form.

It takes better players to get the best out of classes like thief, but overall it’s possible to have decent (not fastest) speedruns of most dungeon (and not just the snoozefest that is CoF) with many classes. With a group filled with rangers and necro? good luck.

Taking a necro into your group is like an act of charity at this point.

Its very much possible, just stand in melee range with decent weapons/ power based sets (even PVT works for this fight) and then coordinate reflects with your group, as long as everyone is protected its fine..

Not very much possible. The requirement since the new update does not sound like an ideal GW2 dungeon to me.

The requirement since the new update is that you use your skills and adapt to the encounter.

What would the ideal GW2 dungeon be to you then? Something you can run through spamming your autoattack and not bothering with your utility skills?

If you can’t handle the fact you have to prepare and adapt for a boss encounter in a dungeon, you don’t deserve to complete said dungeon in my opinion.

Ahhh yes, the time honored method of ‘stack and dps’. Gotta love it.

Oh no, people use efficient tactics in dungeons! They must be bad players who can’t do it the “honorable way” of taking 30 minutes for 1 boss fight.

That’s what I find so ironic about people complaining about speedrunners and asking for tweaks/changes so they can’t do it so fast anymore… Guess who usually gets slowed down? The people asking for the tweaks (usually PUGs and kittenters). Guess who usually still beats content the fastest? The speedrunners…

It’s the universal law. The mass who voted to put the handcuffs on others always find themselves being bent over the most.

Efficiency VS the so fabled elitism

Latinkuro.9420

This just hit me the other day,

CoF p1 farming group composition is not at all about being elite or anything like that it’s about efficiency plain and simple.

If you’re farming this run for money, what you really care about is efficiency and time spent doing it. The faster you can finish it, the faster you can repeat it and as such the more money you will earn in a shorter period of time.

Once you know how to do the fastest run why in the world would you take anything but
but the most efficient party composition?

anything other than the efficient party composition slows you down, which in an efficiency oriented setup means you’re bleeding money.

Lots of people view / complain about this as if it’s just about elitism, but the reality of the matter is, it has nothing to do with elitism at all it’s all about efficiency.

I’m a casual player myself and didn’t have the full zerker gear setup ready at 1st.
the 1st time I got kicked out of a farming group I asked the reason why, and they explained this to me as I am doing now about efficiency, that’s when I went to get my zerker gear ready so I wouldn’t be inefficient and didn’t get kicked from farming parties, instead of complaining about it on the forums

And, please for the love of God don’t pretend like it’s the parties fault or the game’s fault.
and don’t act as if they are obligated to take you even if you do not fit their needs and all you will do is drag them down with you.

If this was a trinity based game and you applied as a tank but didn’t have the gear for it do you honestly believe you will get picked for that group ?

Hell no you won’t !

Why should it be any different here ?

bottom line is this

1 – you wanna farm and have fun and don’t care about efficiency, than no problem look for like minded people and go do your inefficient runs and have fun we won’t stop you or bother you at all, but don’t complain because you can’t get in on the efficient farming parties, why should the others who are efficient have to carry you around dragging your feet taking them down with you?

2 – you wanna be efficient, go get your full beserker gear ready and welcome to the party !

Just so you don’t get the wrong idea or label me something I’m not

I also run CoF for fun with my guildmates, I take any and all classes, beginner or experienced it doesn’t really matter and have a blast teaching them about the dungeon, it is all about fun, relaxing and enjoying the game.

What, the developers have plenty of time for their community.

They respond in obviously very important threads like this. Also, there are a bunch of game breaking bugs like this one that need dev attention before dungeons, because obviously, no one can play the game when an NPC is running around asking random questions. Not to mention, this guy right here had a problem with his personal story quest, I mean, who could leave someone like that standing in the cold? This guy even had such a game breaking bug, he solved it himself! He just had to read his mail! Luckily the devs tried to help him though.

I mean, the Devs need to manage their time correctly, don’t you think?

/s

TL;DR: Anet doesn’t give a flying toss about their dungeon community. This idea is only enforced by the fact that they continuously ninja nerf harmless things like the dredge skipping cage jump and add some boulders in snowblind etc, while completely ignoring every outcry of the community on actually game-breaking issues.

Hey Colin, I’ve been wondering. Whatever happened to making the living world as awesome as possible insofar as dungeons are concerned within the year of 2013? We’ve seen an AC update at the beginning of the year, but with Rob Hrouda taken off of dungeons to work on the living story, dungeons have been abandoned for quite awhile. Will we still see that update? And furthermore, will it be sooner rather than later? I’d hate to not see anything until December, and currently there are more dungeons remaining to be updated than there are months left in the year.

Why is Risk vs Reward so Skewed?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: FourthVariety.5463

FourthVariety.5463

Risk – Reward is no longer a game philosophy of GW2.

Instead, loot is being used to create big player zergs in PvE. Those zergs probably serve the function of reaffirming the players of there being a lot of activity in the game. If a lot of players were happily farming instances, then there might be an impression of the game getting empty and player groups getting isolated from each other.

This is why we get guild missions to concentrate populations. It is why we get APIs optimizing easy farming routes.

For the moment this strategy might appease the players who are in it for the spectacle and easy loot. Then again, no other MMOs worth mentioning have been released in the last few months, meaning ArenaNet does not even have to bother.

Elitism is ruining this game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TheMaskedParadigm.3629

TheMaskedParadigm.3629

As the title says, being an elitist has completely destroyed this game for me. My inner elitist drove me to learn strategies for each dungeon and boss, execute them flawlessly, become the self-declared best Guardian in Guild Wars 2, and create top-of-the-food chain-guides for Warrior and Ranger. After accomplishing feats like killing Lupicus in 46 seconds with my super group of guildies and clearing Arah path 4 in 30 minutes, I’ve realized something that really took me all too long: Guild Wars 2 is a casual’s game, and that isn’t going to change.

The last few patches have brought nothing but temporary content that has taken me no longer than a few hours to complete at most, and very little changes to dungeons, if any at all. Fractals are in a state of chaos and the only people that have motivation to do them are people that enjoy harming themselves or people caught in an infinite loop of grinding for a weapon skin that will most likely never drop for them. I cannot keep myself entertained with a game that offers no new challenge, and the little challenges that did exist were destroyed after discovering the trinity of Warrior, Guardian, and Mesmer. I can understand that someone with no desire to master dungeon content or someone that only wants to log on and do dailies would have trouble with this game, but Guild Wars 2 simply offers nothing for the hardcore player, and I don’t think that I’m alone in thinking this.

People that play casually don’t really bother me, they can do what they want and that’s fine. If the idea of Guild Wars 2 is to produce temporary content for someone to log on and see once a month and buy some minis from the gem store, then I don’t have a problem with that either; I just don’t feel I can be a part of it any longer. I’m quite disappointed, because I had fun playing this game for several months, whether it was hunting for Final Rest when it was hiding with Shadow Behemoth all along, or practicing Lupicus alone for hours so I could master his mechanics and teach them to other people. I’m not posting this thread to trash Anet or to make drama and cause people to quit the game, I’m posting it so people can read my thoughts on Guild Wars 2 and discuss them in hopes that maybe some day there will be some content that challenges hardcore players.

In closing, perhaps taking a casual approach to Guild Wars 2 is the best way to go about playing this game, but being an elitist and mastering the PvE content the game offers eradicated any sort of drive to continue playing a game that doesn’t seem to be targeted towards someone like me

Dungeon Cheesing - Working as intended?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Nike Porphyrogenita.8137

GW2 has possibly one of the most interesting combat systems ever in an MMO, and its wasted on a player base that will go to any means to avoid it.

You make it sound like this is the fault of the player base. People generally respond to the incentives they are given, depending on the results they want.

A big problem with the game currently is that the casual crowd prevent the type of challenging content from being implemented. The tired “dungeons are too easy” threads are currently about 1:1 with “dungeons are too hard” threads. If they made actual challenging content with commensurate rewards the ratio would be 1:13872973296. The casual crowd feels entitled to be able to finish all content with whatever build or party composition they want and they expect it to require the minimum of effort. Also, they expect the rewards to be the same as what a hardcore group can achieve.

This isn’t bashing casuals, I don’t mind that they want everything to be EZ mode, that’s their right to want whatever they want. But development doesn’t have to listen. Unfortunately, it is the casual crowd who buy town clothes and quaggan hats with real world money, so that is who development caters to. When end-game PVE’ers cry on the forums, they get nothing. When the type of people who use real money to buy mini pets cry on the forums, things happen.

The problem is that development has not at all been even. The hardcore pve community hasn’t received a single bone thrown their way since fractals were introduced, and even the rewards for that was nerfed and the content seemingly permanently gated. Since fractals every monthly update has been exclusively carebear fluff oriented. It would be nice to get some love from a-net.

What build to go for dungeons as a Warrior?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: obal.3218

obal.3218

Warrior is a pure dps class. The best build currently is 20 (V, IX)/25 (V, X)/0/10 (VI)/10(V). The best gear is full zerker with scholar runes and force sigils. The best skills would be Healing Surge for your heal, For Great Justice! (always have this on your bar), A banner (Discipline>Strength>Tactics>Defense), Shake it off or Endure Pain, Signet of Rage or Battle Standard. You use GS + Axe/Mace. GS to use hb and whirlind to avoid damage or do good dps if enemies are at a wall. You swap to Axe/Mace to auto attack and for skill 2 and 4 to add invulnerable then swap back to Gs for hb and swap back as soon as you can to axe/mace for auto attack and repeat. If your group is dying a lot or your having a rough time still bring a longbow instead of the axe/mace so you have something to fall back on. Use sword/warhorn + gs for running and skipping stuff.

Why no /inspect ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ProxyDamage.9826

ProxyDamage.9826

This has been discussed to death and back.

It’s pretty simple: most people of any value or relevance think it’s a good idea, bad players and leeches think it’s the devil cause they’re afraid they can’t be carried anymore. Good players think it’s a good idea/don’t care because, worse case scenario, they just don’t party with people they wouldn’t want to party with anyways. Crappy players know they’ll take longer to find a party and it’ll mostly be others like them, so nobody will drag them along.

Done to death. This particular horse isn’t even a carcass anymore but a fine paste. Game needs inspect for better pugging. Will, hopefully, get it eventually, but hardly a priority. Meanwhile just try to stick with partying with people you know. As of right now I don’t join random parties unless I know more others in it, and that we’re all good enough to carry the rest. And usually when one of us is the leader so we can kick any dead weight “too heavy” to carry.

In no way does a debate on an inspect function in any way equate to a debate on gay marriage. It’s a false comparison.

The point was about advocating against something that doesn’t effect you. People that advocate against gay marriage won’t be effected by gays being able to marry, just like the people that advocate against /inspect won’t be effected by the addition of that tool.

Am i the only one here that is curious what gear people are wearing and how it’s socketed, that also doesn’t have every skin in the game memorized? Why does everyone assume this tool will only be used for maliciousness?

I don’t assume that is will only be used maliciously. I’m concerned that it will be used more for malicious purposes than positive ones, and general human nature does support this concern. (Crap, just looking at some of the community supports this concern)

I guess I might be ok with it, if it only showed the skin information, but if you transmogged it and someone checks you out, are they going to assume you transmogged it, or that you’re wearing crap armor? Like you said, you have already run into this issue, being called a noob because your armor LOOKED low level. (Hmmm, didn’t I say something somewhere along the lines about judging books by their covers and first impressions….)

It’s been established that only “elitists” will use it maliciously to exclude people from their groups. It has also been established that the people that don’t want to be excluded because of gear, ALSO don’t want to group with “elitists.” So, the conflict only arises when people with bad-gear attempt to group with “elitists”, who they are actively trying to avoid grouping with in the first place.

Do you see how adding /inspect can sound like a non-issue? All the while, people that can ACTUALLY BENEFIT from adding /inspect are punished because of an irrational fear of “elitist” behavior, which they won’t even be subjected to as long as they continue to avoid the type of players we’ve already established they avoid.

Why no /inspect ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Scrambles.2604

Scrambles.2604

@scrambles
I think everyone and their mother has conceded the fact that if you join a zerker speedrun of cof, you’d better have the gear. The cause for concern applies to other dungeons, having the potential to devolve into what we have for cof at the moment.

If people were upfront with what they wanted from dungeon groups (like the current zerker CoF run) then it would be a non-issue. This is a “putting groups together” issue, not a /inspect issue.

What i am hearing is “I don’t want /inspect because it would lead to me being kicked from groups with people i wouldn’t want to group with in the first place.”

I feel like you should be supporting inspect, because it would be an obvious red flag as to who you don’t want to play with. If you join a seemingly normal CoF run, and the first thing the party leader does is start talking crap about your gear he just /inspected, then LEAVE! You shouldn’t have to take that crap! If it wasn’t for inspect he would probably just call you out for wiping 15 mins into the run. The way i see it, /inspect would save both parties that 15 mins.

You guys are so self-conscious about your builds and gear. This is an MMO, i don’t know what you expected but interacting with other sub-humans is part of the ride.
