I love the game. I love the art, I love the mechanics and I love the fact that they tried to do something different regarding trinity. But as a loyal GW2 gamer and someone who played GW1 for 6 years, I can’t help but feel the last few patches have been utterly underwhelming.

They clearly have some very talented people at ANET. Great artists especially, but the potential and excitement of where the game could go has been worryingly deteriorating at a rapid pace. For me, the last REAL update content wise was fractals. An enjoyable update to the game that kinda gave it a mini raid feel without all the hassle that comes with a classic mmo raid.

Yet since then, what really has been added to the game in any meaningful way? Yes there have been updates to W v w and PvP, but as I rarely participate in those, I feel that the core playerbase of the PVE world has largely been neglected. The rot set in with the Karka event..Ill conceived, bugged and although it introduced a new area, it felt Spartan and unfinished with absolutely NO reason to go there other than a bit of gathering.

The guild bounties etc have also been poorly implemented imo too. What you basically have is guilds sending out members to find said mobs and then after a chore of a search we all gank them and that’s it..Sorry, this is dull as and not immersive in anyway. It’s also no where near as exciting in practise as we were led to believe.

And then we have Flame and Frost. Possibly THE single most underwhelming and pointless update yet. First off..no one cares. Seriously..no one gives a kitten at all. We are not emotionally involved AT AL! I have yet to speak so a single player in game who found the event..if you can call it that..anything other than a chore. It didn’t help by starting off with a main feature on the website, yet all you did was build a few sign posts for a few months. Now after all this build up, we find out the Dredge are involved. Do Anet realise that after the risen, most people hate fighting the dredge?

But mostly, the profession balance. Ordinarily, I really don’t complain about profession tweaking and one class over the other but in GW2’s case, its really really hard to ignore the fact that Rangers are getting screwed over and warriors are top dog. But no one knows why? They really can’t understand it..and who can blame them?

Like I say, its cos I love the game so much and its cos I CARE that im making this post, but I can’t help feeling really disappointed at the direction of the game. I already ditched WOW and SWTOR for this game, and tbh now I’m simply thinking MMO’s are not for me. ANET could do worse than examine the masters of MMO’s..yes Blizzard and really investigate why an 8 year old game still trounces every new mmo release to the market…The simple answer is it listens. And Content..lots of it. They have a brand new 12 boss raid…what do we have?? Banging some fences in the snow and npcs we could care less for…

Really Anet? I respect your artistry, but I really sometimes wonder if you gusy actually paly your own game

I think u guys (the dedicated warriors) should come up with some good ideas of how to improve the current state of warrior, who knows maybe they actually like some ideas and implement them.

No.

We made suggestions.

They were ignored.

No one asked for a kick buff. No one asked for passive stat boosts on banners to be increased.

People have made a lot of good suggestions, but we are being ignored right now.

I’ve always been a major defender of the game because it just plays so kitten well and looks great.

But right now, I am very disappointed with the s/tPVP outlook, the laziness of actual implementation, and the downright incompetent class balancing.

Hey, firstly I would like to say that I have a lot of respect for the developers of this game and what it is they are trying to achieve.

Sadly from my prospective I found that this patch lacked in a lot of fields, it failed to shake up the meta in the slightest, infact if it has done anything its enforced this stagnent meta and shoved it down our throats.

What is it that a pvp patch is meant to achieve ?

Well if we leave out all the fluff that is CA and Leaderboards, then in essence the pvp patch should at least shake up the meta and bringing previously unviable builds into the limelight, in turn giving the players a fresh new meta to experiment with.

What did this patch achieve ?

Let’s actually take a simplified look at what this patch has done. It’s effectively killed off several builds for the engineer pigeon holing them into a single build, its killed the only viable build for warriors and buffed mesmer and elementalist. (even though those buffs were never needed in the first place.)

We can safely deduce that this patch has done nothing that it was meant to, that a basic pvp patch is meant to achieve, from my prospective I am not bothered about having CA or Leaderboards I am not in any sort of rush for Anet to release those, my main concern is balance because thats paramount, it will ensure that when those features are out that the gameplay is enjoyable.

What should’ve been done ?

Lets take for example the quickness nerf, this probably didn’t effect certain classes as much as others; I am sure that Anet understood this and they knew that warriors have been centering their builds on this exact skill for awhile now, and thats because warriors have no real staying power in a fight, they need to do their damage as fast as possible and get out (normally catching their target by surprise).
This nerf should normally not come without complimentary buffs, to ensure that even if a frenzy centered build isn’t viable anymore, that its possible to try something different.
For example:

Restorative Burst
Whatever a warrior lands a burst skill he is healed for 2.3k (non scaling, we don’t want more bunkering classes) and removes a single condition.
Pinnacle of hate
Whenever a warrior reaches max Adrenaline charges, he gains might and retaliation for 7s (20s Internal Cooldown).

These are two traits that compliment each other, and also open possibilities for warriors to pick up different utilities, had something like this accompanied the warrior nerf, then it at least would’ve given warriors something to play around with or test out; instead of a flat nerf to the heart of their only viable build.

There are also other builds and weapons that could be looked at that could shake up the meta; take for example the mesmer scepter, I am sure there are many mesmers out there that hope they could run a condition build, but are unable to do so because the weapon support for such a build is so bad, that its never been an option for them.

Eles the root of evil (JK!), it becomes a problem when a single class can hold back a whole meta, ele’s at the moment are a little overtop the previous nerfs they received didn’t impact the class enough to stop it from being used in the manner that it has for the past 3 months. I can’t fathom why Anet refuses to do anything about this. I will not get in depth about what is wrong with ele; all I am going to say is how many times did you feel like you could be viable had an immortal ele not been chasing you around and bullying you off points, with little to no repercussions for making mistakes.

All in all, all I am trying to say is that I hope Arenanet takes this feedback and everyone else’s feedback to heart and hopefully gives us a better patch next month, we are not asking for knee jerk nerfing Anet, all we are asking is a shake up to the meta once in awhile.
I also want to thank the dev’s for all their hard work, I am sure there are a lot of things that you want to share with your community and that we are impatient a lot of the times, but I still have faith in this game.

I have three warriors. One is a tank. One is a MF farmer. One is a zerker.

None of them remotely needs buffed. The whole reason I picked warrior for my head to toe MF character was because warriors were way far along on the strong side of the whole tissue paper – OP continuum.

I have one engineer. I don’t play her much at all because frankly, everything she might be able to do okay, I have another class that does much better. Single target DPS-thief. Ranged AoE DPS-ranger. Easy AoE DPS-warrior. Flexibility-elementalist.

Even more support-ish roles are better in other classes. If you want to be healer, be a water spec’d elly. Want to buff teammates – guardian or shout/banners warrior.

But engineer…poor engineer. Sure, you can have some silliness with a few builds that are based on your opponent killing themself, provided a) you can find an opponent without a functioning brain and b) you don’t get killed long before finding a).

So a few people figure out that the new flamethrower tweaks make that underwhelming kit someone useful. Can’t have that. NERF DETONATION.

Heck, I know it’s prolly a bug getting fixed. I don’t really care. Engineers need a lot of love that they just aren’t getting (as do necros, but necro love might be just fixing minion AI so that they actually always fight). Instead, patch after patch they just get further and further behind the other classes.

I mean, you’re never going to see a post on gw2lfg.com saying “GLF2M Zerker Engineers Only” now are you? In fact, I don’t think I’ve seen a group actually looking for an engineer ever, nor are there ever that many people who eagerly post the fact they’re an engineer looking for an invite.

On the other hand, when I need a few quick gold, I’m all about posting “80 full zerker warr LFG”, and I think I’ve had to wait as long as 30 seconds once to find a group…at 2am…on a weekday…

This is as ridiculous as paid tournaments. PvP feature that i must pay for in a B2P game? Unacceptable. Also, how do you expect nonsense like this to create influx of new players? If i am new player trying GW 2 SPvP or am returning after months of waiting for new features to be finally implemented, first thing i gotta do is spend real money to rent CA and 200 gems per day no less? What a joke. Even F2P games have microtransaction systems based on completely optional content. Here, if i want to duel in peace i have to pay a daily fee? Could you please give us a less cheap way to milk your players? Really, this is too obvious.

There is a difference between character progression and player progression. WvW players want player progression. WvW is a PvP format. It was meant to be a bridge to introduce pve players to pvp. The ranks should absolutely be account based (which favors player progression) and leave the earned perks character based (favors character progression).

The fact is that Anet marketed gw2 as a no grind game. Millions of copies were bought and we devoured the content. We went through the content so quickly that Anet has decided to start adding grind to keep us busy/slow us down. Not cool.

FotM – leveling is character based to slow us down.
Laurels – dailies are account wide so we get one per day to slow us down.
WvW XP – back to character bound to slow us down.

They flip flop account wide and character specific mechanics depending on which will take us longer to acquire said item.

I’m a gw2 fanboy, but I still have to think objectively. These forums were made bc Anet wants our feedback.

In every MMO I’ve played, it’s always blown my mind that people defend even the most broken classes and their most overpowered aspects to the end.

This is indisputably broken. It’s one thing to be able to hop a few feet forward, but being able to rip through 1,200 range with no repercussion is absolutely game breaking, especially if it’s paired with two to four rolls that ignore snares.

I put up a post today that said “level 10 daily ping 2 infused rings + infused back piece for invite” it was one of the best 10 daily groups i’ve been in in a long time. Now im not saying you need 30 ar for lvl 10 daily, i didn’t use 30 i used 15 but i wanted to know that the people im playing with went threw enough fractals to have them, i didn’t care if they used them or not. I think i was around 30 when i got my 2 rings and back piece.

As soon as i put this up though two people like yourself started raging calling me a noob because i thought people needed 30 AR for lvl 10 frac’s. This was not the case at all but some people take this kitten so seriously like it is real life… like yourself. People want to play with their own skill level, if you don’t thats ok. Just leave it be and quit crying over it. THIS IS A GAME, THIS IS NOT REAL, PLAY HOW YOU WANT TO PLAY AND DON’T BOTHER WITH PEOPLE WHO DON’T WANT TO PLAY YOUR WAY.

Im sure the people (like myself) who make the posts asking for experienced players only and stuff like that don’t give a kitten about what you do, so stop giving a kitten about what they do and move on with your life.

I run CoE a lot and most of those runs had first timers in them and I got sick of it. I got sick of explaining every boss fight. I got sick of telling somebody to run left through a door only to have them aggro a champion. I got sick of explaining how to dodge only to see repeated failure entice group members to get themselves killed reviving on Alpha. I got sick of people not being able to hit a button at the same time even after explaining it to them.

So yeah, I look for experienced players only. Want to know the best part? Even though I post “be experienced” in lfg I still get first timers who haven’t got a clue.

Healing and protection have already been nerfed considerably. You’re asking to nerf the bread & butter of this game.
I’m sorry, but it just sounds like you’re angry at certain mechanics of the game but dont actually understand what needs to be fixed…

If you spec into being bunker, you should expect to live and do it well. After all, deep bunker specs do no damage…

What?! Ok the point was that bunkers need a slight nerf(just as burst do), so that more builds will be useful in spvp. We have a LOT of different builds per proffesion, please do not cry when someone ask that a build at one end of the spectrum be toned down from ridiculousness to bring a little more balance to the game.

Seriously, just because I asked for a slight nerf, doesn’t mean I’m against a pure defensive build. Hell I believe that was in the disclaimer.

Edit: Also, If burst get nerfs bunkers by default get a buff of some sorts, so your point is entirely invalid. Please do not be openly biased towards one end of the spectrum over another.

-Regardless of whether you know how to “play your class” there should be simple rank requirements before entry.
Level 10 is a good barrier because it takes around 14k rank to enter. Which gives the average player enough time to figure out what builds he likes, how to play the maps, and what are the general strategies.
Note: Anyone who comments " but my other account", guild wars 2 is set up so that rank is across your entire account. If you have mutiple accounts, it really shouldn’t be taken into consideration because there is no logical reason for Arenanet to cater to such individuals, also, its a very short amount of glory.

4v5 problem
-Punishment to leavers. I don’t care whether its intentional or not, if you are not int he match you get a small ban from tourneys(nothing big, 30min or so).
-A system that makes sure that all 5 players are in before starting the match or it doesn’t start it. LoL would be a good example.

This sounds pretty silly but there is very little incentive outside of winning to play spvp. The armor that you unlock takes a long time later and for cosmetic purposes that is a lot of grinding

Solution:
1.Certain achievements certain armor. 100, 1k, 10k wins/plays gets a certain set each.
2. Pvp “rank” takes less.

Thats 9 MILLION to get to the top rank. Considering each cap is 10-20, each kill is generally 15-25, that is an absurd amount just for cosmetics.

(lvl 39 and 40-48 take 45k EACH level).

These are the problems currently in spvp along with my suggested solutions. Class balance is an issue, however this is not about that. There will be parts where I mention certain classes and changes, please note that I am not calling out a certain class.


I need to put this disclaimer. This thread is about class balance, I will use certain classes as an example, but by no means am I commenting about one class being better in any way shape or form. Also, these are not 100% accurate solutions, of course they will need testing and such before implementation.

Burst and Bunkers

Now this is a problem. There is no problem with classes going full offense or defense, its just that at both ends of the spectrum it is extreme. The reason for such is a bit contradictory.“I need bunkers to survive burst and burst to take down bunkers” The reason this is a problem is because there is just SO many builds in guild wars 2, but balanced builds are less useful because of these two extremes. A burst will down a balanced player quite easily while a bunker may outlive it forever.
Burst solution
1. Simple min/max damage and crit damage. Reduce Critical damage while increasing attack or condition damage.
Example: 30% Less crit damage and 15-20% more damage from normal attacks.
-alternative
2. Crit chance should never be above 50%, otherwise it becomes less of a critical effect mechanic and more of a mechanic that most of your attacks do X amount of “more damage” than not.
Example: Crit cap is 40% without fury. This means crit damage won’t be applied for the majority.(you’d have to increase earth runes to something like 80%)

Bunker Solution
-Note: Boonhate may solve it.
1. Healing reduction. This is essentially why some bunkers last forever, they have healing from multiple sources. Healing should be limited in source, and healing power should scale with your normal heal better.
-Example: Healing power gives 50% more for your original heal, but other healing will be reduced by 30% or more in the spvp realm.
-Note: this is not for every proffession and would have to be selected as such. Such as necromancers “heal out of DS” vs ele’s “evasive arcana”. Certain traits give too much and certain traits give almost nothing, its all different for each profession.
2. Protection being less available. 33% less damage is a lot while put on-top of toughness reduction with other abilities such as dodge. Simple limit on time between protection or give less time with it on.
-Again, per profession. There are some classes that pay heavily to put on a short time of protection.

Down state should not effect the capture of a point

If you are down, the point can be capped regardless if you are on it. This is a problem because being downed extends the time you can sit on a point and “defend” it, but not because of that, because certain classes(who I have no issue with in this regard) can delay the cap regardless of efforts taken by the player
Example: Ele can mist before down and prolong the cap for another 5-10 seconds.
-Note: I’m not saying anything regarding Ele’s being unfair or such, other professions can do such a thing as well.

Solution:
1. Simply don’t allow down state to effect the cap. That’s it.

Personal opinion: I do not believe down state to be a pvp mechanic. It is a PVE mechanic in all regards.
-Some people(even me) take certain utilities JUST for down state. This leads to usually one utility always saved for that purpose alone. I’d much rather use that stability in combat than save it for when I need to down someone so that he doesn’t get rallied.
Solution: Rally is taken out of spvp
-Again, this is my opinion regarding down state. It is(in my opinion) a problem with rally too , but this is not always agreed upon.

this mainly because crowd control is useless and raw DPS is king of the game.

so the only damage prevention is shifted from CC (as it is in other games) to blocks, two boons and reflection which are mainly available to guardians/mesmers etc

Anet have two ways to fix this:

1) make all classes have some kind of equally working damage prevention mechanic.
—> when i say " equally working" I mean that in comparison between aegis and blind which in theory should be similar, the aegis is far more effective and useful than blind, i.e. they are NOT equally working.

when every profession will have access to block and reflection, it will make the professions equally viable but this will lead to homogenization of all professions and make them dull…

2) the second way is my dream. which is harder to balance, but much better and rewarding.
this is the way that distinguish between good game that lasts years or a game which is a mere flavor of the month.
make CC useful, make CC meaningful!
don’t you see that all the classes that have CC in their design are the weak classes!? (engy, ranger, necro etc)
when CC and smart use of CC will be available, rangers will be welcomed in parties again; for their traps and roots. engineers will be welcomed in parties for the nets and sticky bombs, necroes will be sought and praised for the awesome chills and grab-wells!

immobilization, cripple, chill, they all should last 10 seconds on base duration (before traits, buffs etc)

stun and daze should start from 5 second duration.
knock up and knock down should have stun and daze as after effect.

trash mobs (read: silver mobs) should be taken out of combat by CC, allowing a smart party to kill them one by one.

bosses shouldn’t be defiant and unshakable.
bosses should be perma weakened in five men group.
bosses should be chilled, immobilized, crippled, blinded.

for the sake of all good in MMOs, why the defiant stack re- applied instantly after you used a single CC?
if the group has removed defiant stacks on boss, make it vulnerable to CC for 10 next seconds! because as the situation today:
CC —-—→ doesn’t matter,
removing defiant from bosses —-—> doesn’t matter
smart group play beside finishing others combos —-—> doesn’t matter

all that matters is 1)direct DPS 2) dodge 3) damage prevention via block or reflect.

Anet , you have the power to change! you can make this game really worthy!

The only way to do that I can think of is to do the following:

  • Make high-end PvE (Dungeons / Fractals) reliably drop high-value items that can be sold on the TP for profit
  • Increase the value of farming items, not gold, by increasing the general drop rate of those items
  • Fix the farming spot that is CoF 1 so that players are encouraged to branch out and earn items which can be sold for gold rather than earning gold en masse.

This essentially amounts to an increase in supply for certain items, which decreases their value (potentially), but there’s more to it than that. Remember that the time a player has online can only be used one way, so he could be farming something else for 6-7 g/hr, or he could be farming items which have value. This competition will keep the value of items competitive as well.

My idea for the solution to the requirements listed above is:

  • Add a guaranteed core to the reward chest (the one with tokens) at the end of every path of a dungeon except CM and AC
  • Add guaranteed rares to the Fractal chests that includes more rares for higher levels and fewer / no guaranteed rares for much lower levels
  • Add 1 guaranteed rare to the end reward chest (the one with tokens) as a FIRST-TIME-PER-DAY BONUS ONLY (you’d only get the rare on the same run you got 60 tokens)
  • Significantly increase the supply of T6 Dust from drops across the world, because its value determines so many things (like the value of other T6 mats and cores).
  • Make CoF 1 significantly harder to farm (ie. by making players clear the bridge event)

These changes would significantly improve the ability for people to feel able to make progress both towards legendaries but also towards just making money in PvE. There is really nothing that can be done when people succeed massively at speculating on the TP, but I don’t think anything should be done there. The focus should be on improving PvE rewards so that people feel actually rewarded doing tough content. The world bosses should not be the only things that give out guaranteed rares when those events are worlds easier than most dungeons and especially Fractals. Even CoF 1 currently requires more brainpower than the world boss events, which really says something.
