I went down to the local BB&B and they said I could only get one per day.

Also, they said if I didn’t want to pay for it, I could do the following:
– empty trashcans 0/5 (0%)
– update price tags 0/10 (0%)
– revive employees 0/5 (0%)
– greet customers 0/25 (0%)
– sweep aisles 0/10 (0%)

My turret is so much better at this game than I am.

You could make t6 mats with them, but considering it takes an ecto + a mystic coin, it is probably not profitable. And you’d be the only person going “five clovers in a row, I have such horrible luck!”

I could care less if someone gets made cause I took their precious dodge mob(s). I like helping people in the game and I’m not going to calculate whether they’re trying to get a dodge accomplishment if they’re low on health. I’m going to focus on what’s doing damage to them.

If moving to another mob or waiting for the short respawn timers is too much of a pain to them to the point they get upset at someone, they have more to worry about in life than someone hindering them in an effort to help.

In fact just a bit ago I was working on my dodge daily in the grub cave in queensdale. I was down to half health and someone came by and killed the grubs attacking me. I said thanks and watched them move on to killing something else. I then just attacked a few more and continued dodging. No big deal…

Lion's Arch Overflow and Roleplay Concerns

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Halorin.1398

Halorin.1398

Hello,

First, I would like to thank and congratulate the developers of ArenaNet for the efforts put into Guild Wars 2 and all of its successes. This game has been very enjoyable to me and created a playground for one of the greatest communities I’ve had the pleasure of being a part of. It’s this enjoyment, and the hope to enhance it, that has inspired me to write this message to appeal to the developers to consider making changes to Lion’s Arch and how its overflow system is handled.

Lion’s Arch is a trade hub with a rich history. It’s the melting pot where cultures converge and where there are allegiances or loyalties to any one specific race or nation. The official Wiki describes Lion’s Arch as the most diverse and cosmopolitan city in Tyria. It is featured prominently in the game’s story, and rightfully so.

The Arch is where all groups and races came together to battle a common threat, so it would stand to reason that the Arch would be a centralized location for interaction. Unfortunately, the roleplaying community has had a difficult time of honoring this part of the game’s lore and making use of the excellently crafted map due to the difficulties presented by the current overflow situation.

I am lucky to be a member of the Tarnished Coast roleplaying community. Tarnished Coast is one of the more populated servers, and as such, has been plagued with an overflow problem in Lion’s Arch. During primetime hours, the overflow queues can take in excess of 20 minutes. This makes roleplaying in Lion’s Arch difficult as members of the community are either forced to wait in queues for an undetermined amount of time or are splintered between a number of different overflow instances.

Tarnished Coast, and perhaps Piken Square, are unique in other servers in that there is a level of importance to having many players in the same instance. It creates a sense of normalcy for players to congregate and interact with each other continuously. This larger sense of community is difficult to accomplish when queues and multiple overflow instances fragment the community.

I ask that ArenaNet consider seeing to the concerns presented here to better enhance the RP community’s experience. Without understanding the technical hurdles, I have thought of three solutions that may improve our experience.

Increase the player cap before an overflow is necessary. On a few nights during primetime hours, I have run around Lion’s Arch in Tarnished Coast’s main instance, and could not find a large pocket of players that seemed to justify the near 15 minute queues members of my guild were facing. The Trading Post, crafting, and bank areas were not overloaded to the extent I could see why queues ran as long as they did, and increasing the capacity may better accommodate roleplayers that want to use Lion’s Arch as a consistent place to interact.

Allow for players wanting to run Fractals of the Mist to congregate in a staging area. Queues for Lion’s Arch jumped considerably with the release of FotM. Creating a larger area for players to find pick-up groups or wait for straggling members of formed parties would take some of the load off of Lion’s Arch’s numbers, hopefully leading to shorter queues to the main instance.

Give an option to select which Overflow to spawn in. This feature already exists by using the party system to move to like instances. It would help roleplayers a great deal to select the same instance via a drop down or some form of prompt. I appreciate the seamlessness of not needing to manually select an instance, but for the purposes of roleplay, it would be a great help for us to be able to always select the same overflow instance to have the sense of normalcy other RP hotspots enjoy.

My thanks to anyone that reads this or considers any of my suggestions. I’ve written this only to help improve my community’s RP experience and to give Lion’s Arch the opportunity it deserves to be a place for roleplayers to enjoy.

Respectfully,
Halorin

The other bosses are purely mechanics based and defensive stats merely provide you a buffer for mistakes, somewhat. However I’ll give some tips specific to Guardians, since you mentioned.

Champion Icebrood Wolf
The fight is all about avoiding its pounce attack. Aegis is perfect for the situation, and so is the Focus’ Shield of Wrath.

Subject Alpha
It’s all about the safety nets you can give your party mates. You achieve this through Aegis (Virtue of Courage) and Protection (Hold the Line, Shield of Judgement). Otherwise, you can also help cleanse the Burn condition with anything from Purging Flames to Absolute Resolution.

Mark T-B34RC3
The key to this fight is to remove its boons. You do this by preventing the bolts from each turret from reach the golem. The most brainless tactic to achieve this is to destroy the turrets, which works, but inefficient as they respawn rather quickly.

The smart way is to block and reflect the turret bolts. The Guardian has three ways to achieve this: Wall of Reflection, Shield of Absorption and Shield of the Avenger. By placing these in between the golem and the turrets, you stop it from receiving the boons granted by the associated turret. If you can otherwise rip its boons, all the better.

The game has been out for about six months now and people still don’t fully understand Subject Alpha. It’s a sweet creation borne from the brilliance of the Inquest Mind, fused with Dragon energy drinks, likes taking long walks through the Crucible…

He also has a few moves and is really one of the more involved dungeon boss fights in GW2.

Path 1: Submarine
He uses two attacks.

The first is a point-blank AOE flame burst that does 10-20% HP of damage and puts a Burn on victims. If there are enemies at range, this same attack will also spawn Dragon Teeth. Being silly and getting hit by the Dragon Teeth will usually instantly Down the fool.

The second attack is an Earth Spike attack hits in a cone. It’s very hard to dodge this in melee range, but the damage is quite manageable.

On the second and third encounters with Alpha, it will randomly encase a character in crystal. The crystal can be broken with direct damage and blinked out of with the appropriate skills. The crystal, if unbroken, will disable the victim for 30s. If the victim was caught out in range, this will mean likely death from a Dragon Tooth.

In order to avoid the headache of needing to dodge the Dragon Teeth, especially in the second and third fights when the party has to break the crystals, the strategy is to simply stack in melee range, then heal and cleanse through his attacks.

Throughout each encounter with Alpha, there will be Risen Thralls and Risen Tentacles that you can kill to Rally.

Path 2 & Path 3
Subject Alpha’s abilities in Paths 2 and 3 are somewhat different from 1 and a tad bit more complex.

While it retains its fire-based attack, it loses its Earth Spike attack. Instead of a cone, it will mark each enemy in the encounter with two concentric circles. At the centre you will notice one of two distinct visual effects: frost on the ground and mist in the air.

Frost on the ground telegraphs an earth-based attack (I strongly suggest the ANet dungeon team reconsider this vague visual effect). Anything outside of the inner circle will get hit with a fair amount of damage plus 6 stacks of Bleed. Simply standing still (assuming no other circles overlap your inner circle) will keep your character safe.

Mist in the air (again, I suggest a more prominent visual effect) telegraphs an ice-based attack. Anything standing inside the inner circle will be instantly Downed from massive damage. Simply walking out of inner circle will save your behind. Only one enemy will be targeted with the ice attack each cycle.

Most people only know to stack in melee range and “count to 2 and dodge”. It works, but some people just can’t count or take into consideration for latency/reaction time/hand-eye coordination.

Alternatively, if spaced apart in such a way that nobody’s outer circle overlaps somebody else’s inner circle, the party can stand still and pelt Alpha with ranged attacks, only needing to avoid the occasional Dragon Tooth and Ice attack.

Besides the ambiguous visual tells for its one-shot attacks, my only other pet peeve with the Subject Alpha fight is how unfriendly it is to Condition Damage builds. Breaking party members out of Crystal Prisons are top priority, but utterly impossible to do in a timely manner when you’re geared in Rabid or similar gear with very low Power.

The trick is to fill a bowl with m&ms and every time you kill a mob you eat one. Or put a bunch of different treats in little bags and grab a bag when you kill something, Ooo I got a good treat that time. Anet isn’t going to reward you, you have to do it yourself.

Where Chickens Drop Better Loot Than Dragons

There is enough truth to the chicken comments to stick and enough good humor (I hope) in presentation to help make an honest point in a positive way. Open world, event rewards, have been overly nerfed. Those chests need to mean something. Roaming events and chains is one of the things I really enjoy doing in game, one of the few uniquely done features in GW2, as there are other games with better dungeons by a long stretch in “my” view. I would like to see them remain a viable alternative to play as rewarding as anything else rather than marginalized. Doesn’t mean it will happen, but I wrote my piece.

Where Chickens Drop Better Loot Than Dragons

Like many, I roam the lands of Orr, I stride the lost shore seeking fortune in events waiting eagerly for a temple run or the cumulation of a major chain where there shall be a boss that drops a big, fat, chest that occupies half my viewing screen. This sounds so wonderful to me and perhaps you too, whom roam the last shore, whom prefer to roam events in an open world rather than portal into a dinky little fractal. Dinky, I tell you.

But you see my good Sirs, my good Mrs. there is a problem and pronounced now more so than ever with Camp Penitent thoroughly bugged. People no longer value your events so much as to run them in preference to grinding mobs. That massive chest? It gives a few greens and blues and a tiny bit of coin for a ton of sometimes worthless effort. Yet now we can stand at a way point, even when an event is unbugged, and grind mobs of chickens, chickens I tell you, and receive moldy bags, valued ingredients, and even yellow rare or exotic items far more commonly than from your temples, your high Orrian wizards, or your vaunted dragons, no matter the magic find.

Good sirs, you have inadvertently produced a game where your risen chickens provide better loot than your dragons…

Can this really be allowed to stand? Are you secretly a front for Bojangles? For that greasy KFC? And I must write that, this is not a situation that can be solved with a NERF. You see from my point of view the open world roaming from one dynamic event to another is one of the few features you have that make your game UNIQUE. And, unless you want the open world abandoned in favor of those morbid dungeon runs, those dinky little fractals, participation needs to be adequately rewarded and of equal value.

I hereby request that you consider buffing the loot from those massive chests in Lost Shore and elsewhere so that they not only fill my screen but load my inventory with wonders. For now sir, I am heading back to the Lost Shore, and back to grinding chickens as no one sees the value in karma or chest of little comparable worth.

Chickens I tell you… And not dragons.

Thank you.

Memorable Moments!

Another memorable moment, same character (but at a much higher level), this time in Field of Ruins. I was out running around a forest completing a Renown Heart when I noticed a Champion Giant Branded Devourer approaching. I was the only one in the area at the time (it was late), so I did what any sane Ranger would do when encountering a group-event monster alone: “Challenge accepted!”

I kept a distance and stalked it for about a couple of minutes, watching its movements and studying its attacks against the local wildlife unlucky enough to get in its path. After getting a bead on its characteristics (forms of attack, estimated attack power, movement speed, etc.), I determined that while this fight was probably going to take a while (especially since I was spec’d for condition damage), it was almost certainly winnable. And so I walked out from behind a tree, readied my shortbow, and yelled, “Hey, you overgrown, branded kitten! Yeah, you! You’re going down! Yeah, I’m serious! Hey, come back! Your mother’s a kittening kitten! Yeah, that’s right! Yeah, come get some!”

For the next five or six minutes, it was ON. It was battle of the ages, and the only way I declared it was going to end was with me teabagging its excessively bleeding and poisoned(?), CHEATING, crystalline carcass. Yeah, that’s right, the kitten was CHEATING the whole way through! It apparently made deals with all of the wildlife in that forest, because for the entire fight it was me versus it and EVERY SINGLE deer, stag, and whatever else that was around! Yeah, okay, so maybe an arrow or two might’ve accidentally and unintentionally found its way into something that wasn’t the champ, but seriously guys, can’t we deal with that kind of stuff later? Can’t you see I’m just a tad busy at the moment??

After five or six minutes of that forest getting totally wrecked with arrows and poisonous explosions, a Charr Engineer that was apparently nearby ran over, misunderstood my screams for him to go away (that I totally didn’t type because I was actually very glad to see him), and tried to set the giant devourer on fire, which resulted in him repeatedly getting his furry kitten made into parts of the landscape. Still, for every pelt he gave up he gave me time to recover from the poison clouds that were totally not good for my health and that I was barely holding an edge over.

A couple more people showed up at the 8 or 9 minute mark, and at the 10 or 11 minute mark the champ finally bit the dust. I got my teabag in, some white or blue item for my troubles, and a chuckle at the huge, dense circles I made on my map while I was running circles around the champ.

Can we get a system that hold Commanders responsible for there desicions.

ironic, but in gw2 the problem is always with guilds…
Guilds cannot queue enough of their people in to make a real force, so they form these halfa$$ zergs (sometime with another guild) and disrupt overall strategy and tactics. They run their own objectives, without communicating with rest of the players for battlefield information, and without giving information to rest of the population so they could obtain support.

This morning in HoD-SBI-JQ game EB, without presence of any guild, we (HoD) were making 10k karma/hour, till (Yes I am going to name these kitten PRX and SYN got maybe 20 people into the game, and decided to attack overlook (JQ keep) without consulting with anyone. 3 wipes and rest of the population went down to 2k/hr.

Seriously, people that don’t understand the timer, and cap everything few seconds after round completion should just delete their chars and stop playing this game, let alone trying to lead…

This made me laugh, really hard. HoD sounds like a really fun server. Dont attack because its fun, because you want to fight, no no you must wait on a timer because we need 10k karma/hour….

You sir are pathetic. I would rather be last place and having fun every moment I am out there, then dancing to the tune of a bunch of bean counters playing the point system.

Grat on first place, I am sure its worth it and something you will cherish 2 years from now.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Danikat.8537

I’ve been meaning to make this topic for a while now, but I feel like it’s even more relevant in light of recent updates.

For those of you who don’t remember (and if you don’t believe me you can check) before the November update this forum was full of endless topics about how there is no “end game” in GW2 and this game “needs” a gear treadmill to keep people interested. And guess what? We got it.

Which lead to an interesting situation that looked a lot like a case of “be careful what you wish for” where the endgame/treadmill threads were replaced with (IMO a smaller number of) threads raging about how Anet have ruined the game forever and broke their promise in doing so.

But I suspect, given the number of people I see doing and talking about Fractals (positively) it’s actually that we had two groups – one who desperately wanted this and are now happy and focused on playing the game mode they wanted and another who didn’t want it and are still here raging about how they were lied to.

Now I’ve never played Fractals and I have no plans to do so any time soon. I have no interest in vertical progression and certainly not in the form of a gear treadmill. In theory I got absolutely nothing from this additional content, but I’m happy that it’s there.

Why?

Because Anet saw that a significant portion of their playerbase wanted something and they gave it to us. Even though it was something they themselves were not in favour of and had intended to avoid.

And I take that as a very good sign because it means they’re likely to do it again with other issues. In fact they already have. Not too long ago there was a thread with over 100 replies about dailies being boring and how people wished it would change like the monthly. And we got that too.

Then there were complaints that people were “forced” to grind things they would never otherwise do (like gathering and, ummm dodging) and should be able to pick what they did for the dailies. And now we’re getting that too.

I’d make some joke about asking for unicorns that shoot rainbows but they beat me to it.

And personally I think Anet did a kitten good job of sticking as close to their manifesto as they could whilst still giving players what they wanted. Fractals is pretty much a circular grind – you don’t need Ascended gear unless you want to play the higher levels aka the things that give you Ascended gear.

I have to admit I am slightly worried that one day they’ll also listen to the people who (jokingly I think) said everone should be given a fully geared level 80 of each profession and a full set of legendaries when they create their account. But I think that’s unlikely and I’d take what we’ve got over a lot of companies who seem dead set on giving their fans what they think we should want rather than what we’ve asked for.

It’s amazing that as often as I’ve scoured these forums since launch (almost everyday), this is what elicits my first post…so grats to that op!

Now I’m going to bash you Not really, but c’mon, the ONE thing that just about everyone out there can agree on, whether it’s player, critic, or non gaming bystander, is that the art in this game is kitten amazing. Be it in-game, loading screens, concept, whatever. To take everything you see as literal representation of what’s in-game or as a potential teaser is pretty much completely missing the spirit of ‘art’ in general.

Remember the box covers and concept art for pc games back in the day, I’m talking before 8-bit consoles (though those can be included as well)? The packaging and concept art sure looked unbelievable, the game…not so much, nor was what was on the cover/concept art ever actually depicted in game. This is not a new practice by any means. So instead of poo poo’ing these amazing artists that are bringing what is an (imo) amazing fantastical world to life, celebrate it and them, and count yourself lucky!

Then they go back to their real server, dump tons o stuffs in the mystic forge, not get what they wanted, come back to the forums to rant about how much ANet sucks. While they’re shouting at their computer, they’ll get overheard by their significant other who will ask what they’re doing. Being in a bad mood from getting ripped off by the RNG, they’ll snap a mean reply back at said s.o. Said s.o. will get ticked off and go stomping out the door. While out, they’ll decide to go to the club to relax, and at that club they’ll meet a rich doctor and it’ll be love at first sight. They’ll then go home with their shiny new doctor and juvenile feline all night long. The next day, they’ll head home to get their stuff, and tell the poor idiot who is still smarting for wasting all that gold on the mystic forge that it’s over. The poor idiot in deep despair will then decide to hell with it all and drive to Las Vegas for a massive blowout party to forget all their problems for a while. While in Las Vegas, they’ll stumble into Linsay Lohan who will be out clubbing. After a wild night involving far too much adult beverage, they’ll end up at an all-night marriage chapel completing the train wreck that began with ANet adding guesting.

So there you have it. ANet adding guesting is going to ruin the lives of a whole lot of players who will end up married to Lindsey Lohan. There is simply no worse ‘feature’ ANet could possibly have added to the game.
