Illustrious Exhausted Primordial Legendary Druid, and Mesmer for fun
PvE | PvP (1500)| WvW | Fractals | Dungeons
Yes, if we could only stop people from playing this game to “have fun” all our problems would go away.
Go to work if you wanna have fun! Leave gaming for the serious folks!
But there’s one piece missing in our vision of PvP—one feature on that road map that was to serve as a place for beginning PvP players as well as up-and-coming PvP talent to compete, see progress, set goals, and be rewarded. We have regular competitive events for our top PvP teams; now we’re adding a system that allows everyone to compete and be rewarded. I’m excited to announce our PvP League feature for Guild Wars 2.
Problem is people trying to make out of the League something that isn’t. Saying casuals shouldn’t play? That’s people generating toxicity when Anet stated themselves the league was made for every kind of player. If one have a high competitive drive, they should try to aim and focus on the weekly tournaments and the Pro League more than the League.
You must be new if you think the scoring system in this game matters.
No thank you, sometimes the best option to win a game is not to get personal score.
Otherwise, everyone will cap home for the points. No one would defend. Just bad incentives all round.
Let’s not forget that the new daily reward is 2g in pure currency which increases the ability of all players to convert gold into gems which will drive the ratio that direction.
They are ok, fun teaser bits while waiting for other things. Same as season one way back when. Personally way too long in development but decisions where made and are still being made, hopefully the more that comes in a couple of months is fun.
That being the unidentified lodestone and now bandit event. These are found under the “Current Events” tab in achievements. After unlocking them from the correct collection item.
Even though I’ve not done these events yet, my friends have and said it is something small but fun, and are happy to see another one pop up.
Thank you all for the time to respond, see you in-game or forums what have you.
really listen to you guys for solo queing when someone goes afk or just refuses to play is BS especially in ranked and not being able to report them is even more BS
Losing a game at 400 is way more rewarding for your MMR than losing a game at 20 points.
It’s directly proportional to your opponent team. If they are lower than average MMR, you can get a big drop of MMR for that.
It’s why all competitive players will still try to lose the match with big numbers no matter what.
Working his MMR is hard, take time and dedication. If anyone is AFKing, those same guys will speak of MMR hell in a week or two.
We really need to get a report feature for AFK, for the instance we do report for botting.
We really need to get people with high dishonor stack to play with themselves, even if they have 10 minutes queue time.
Punishing the player bases for TROLLS that can’t play a match because a bad start, is BAD.
I have to say this is just silly. I see so many necro’s give up and rage. Maybe because they are so reliant on team support they get more frustrated with bad play. However, these players that rushed home are likely noobs, and you have to wonder why you are in their division. I try my hardest every day, up until the end. I’ve won so many games that turned around and lost games in the same way, when my team that seemed invincible up to that point is suddenly get outrotated hard.
Giving up should be a bannable offense with enough complaints. It’s such a waste of a game to not try and have fun during it. Why bother queuing if you’ll only fight in games you can win, this isn’t real life, there is no consequence for losing, you only get better with every loss. Grow up afk pvpers.
As for comments of giving up with 2 thieves and 2 warriors. You sir lack forward cognitive skills. The winner of a team is decided by how good the players are, team composition is important, but if the skill is far enough, and the team plays together well enough, you can easily overcome poor team composition.
TBH, the 3 who went home are probably bad players.. BUT… theres only one thing worst than a bad player…. and thats a quitter….. I cant support an AFKer in any game…. thats a worst call than a bad rotation….
I have no respect for AFKrs even if their team is horrible.
You guys seem to miss the point here… There is only one way of learning…. and its by practice… AFKing a match is just a wasted opportunity to practice how to adapt to challenging situations. And you will need to learn how to deal with those situations if you want to get pass Diamond.
Again…. I have no respect for AFKrs…. nothing justifies it.
Yeah, if you guys think getting an AFKer or “toxic” people on your team is so bad, why don’t you guys all just team queue so you can control who you end up with and avoid the “toxic” players?
Just pick up all those players who think it’s ok to 4 cap home and everyone will be happy!
Your problem is with people playing poorly. This is inevitable, and if you want to play competitively you should be doing so in a team anyway. Some people have neither the time nor inclination to learn to play to your standards.
Our problem is with people lacking basic human decency. Those who just want to queue, play a few games more casually, and maybe see how far they can get in the rankings should not have to form a team just to avoid people throwing a tantrum and -deliberately- ruining the game for 4 other people.
Not everyone can or has incentive to learn to play well. Everyone should, on the other hand, learn to act like a proper human being.
PLEASE, let us sell this stuff for even a single copper! Having gear that I can’t salvage, can’t forge (or if I can, I have to sit around and store exotics until I can forge) can’t do anything but “destroy”. Please, please, please… get rid of destroy. Why did I just do that thing, get that gear, go through all that… to earn something that not only I can’t use, but I have to type out for destruction. Let me salvage for cheap mats or sell for 1 copper! Don’t make it pointless!
Totally agree with this. At least let us salvage old armor, etc.
This thread risks becoming an echo chamber of just doom and more doom, which wasn’t really the intent.
I think it’s important to call these sorts of concerns to Anet’s attention as it may be unclear WHAT exactly we’re complaining about with something like this, or the exalted glider, etc.
So let me make, at least my position clear.
I don’t have a problem with black lion skins, or outfits, or whatever.
I have a problem when something that has such an obvious tie to existing content is in stead shuffled off to the gem store.
I don’t want to just be another “Yeah ALL the things are in the gem store, forget this game” post. Some stuff belongs in the gem store. Most of the black lion skin sets are just thematically neutral. Outfits versus armor is a clear distintion Anet chose to make. Ten thousand nutty nonsensical glider skins, again fine. Nobody sees parrot wings and says “That should obviously come from doing thing X, not the gem store”
The real problem here is the volume of gem store stuff compared to the volume of stuff obtainable by playing the game. The game we paid for. Then we bought an expansion for.
Want to push two gem store sets for every one released in the game? That’s fair! The current ratio is abysmally skewed toward the gem store. I get that its damage control because HoT didn’t sell well, but perhaps its worth understanding why HoT didn’t meet expectations. It carries the same price tag as the base game, but upon “unboxing” the thing you just bought you discover the lootable rewards are all locked behind a further gem store pay wall.
Gliding is a core HoT system, and at the point of release There were zero Glider skins obtainable by playing HoT
I don’t want to just sit here and complain. I want to engender a productive discussion. I LIKE GW2, I like it a lot in fact, but Arenanet needs to realize that their ongoing reward structures revolve around the acquisition of skins. When we can reliably see 2-5 new skins a moth in the gem store, and, what, three obtainable within the game In the entirety of time since HoT released it displays a disconnect between the fundamental reward structure of all parts of GW2 is, and what the game is actually rewarding.
Arenanet, your game’s entire reward structure is framed around cosmetic rewards, and you seem determined to only allow players to earn a bare minimum of those rewards by playing the game. This does not create a sense of trust in you as developers, and does not fill your community with a sense that you value their play time as much as you value their money.
Nobody is asking you to stop selling gem store items. Some of us would like thee to be a reasonable parity between gem store items and those earned in game so that our time spend feels rewarded rather than exploited with the flimsy justification that we can trade gold for gems.
Maybe we can put together a list of things we see as “bad” gem store items so Mo can see where our concerns are?
Stuff I’ve seen mentioned:
Exalted/Soul River gliders: Obviously thematically tied to a relevant mastry/raid.
The subject of the thread, guild weapons thematically tied to existing “guild weaponsmith”
Various raid minis – again obviously tied to raids.
“Crystal” and “arbiter” medium and light armor style outfits – Light and medium mistward armor repurposed as outfits.
Anything else you guys can think of that rubs you the wrong way?
I just want to say thank you, Arenanet for adding this excellent feature. Seems like a small detail, but what an awesome way to give flexibility to those that like to play with their appearance. I think I spend more in Total Makeover Kits than anything and I always feel like I need to have one in the bank, just to have it as a previewer.
It is very nice to think of something like this that can help you gain more from players but also help us the players make decisions and play around a bit before spending.
Those of you sympathizing with the necro on this one are the single largest reason pvp in this game has done poorly. You are a toxic part of the community who would rather have a game filled with self-centered, inconsiderate tryhards than give less experienced players a break. Aside from perhaps crippling technical difficulties or other outside interruptions, there are almost no acceptable reasons to afk at the start of a match.
If you have a problem with the people you’re queued with by the game, find a team of like-minded people and party with them. Don’t clog solo-q with your gigantic egos.
Yeah, the necro helped his team by putting them out of their misery faster and saving everyone some time.
OP didn’t even realize he had 3 people following him home until the enemy crossed to contest. That means they were 4 capping home. How do you not noticed a 4 cap home from the start? It’s right there on the mini map?
At that point, you’re gambling on the other team being worse than yours. And at that point, who would WANT to carry that? Assuming the necro had the capability to carry that match, he’s doing the ENTIRE PvP community a favor by taking a hit to his personal MMR to spare the rest of us 3 home cappers rising in theirs.
We should be commending his sacrifice.
If “putting them out of their misery faster and saving everyone some time” is the goal, why not just ask in chat if everyone wants to “give up”? If the majority replies with “yes,” then you can all agree to a suicide. However, to make that choice for your team is irresponsible.
I don’t care how you spin it, what that necro did is no “favor to the PvP community.” If he would have helped, maybe they could have won? I mean, they probably wouldn’t have, but it’s better to take that chance.
Bottom line:
*If you go to play a game — and the spot you are taking up is irreplaceable by anyone else — then kitten play it.
Otherwise, stay out of pvp if you can’t mentally handle failure.
As for those who went home mindlessly, I personally would have whispered them to let them know that is a poor practice and explain why. I’m not saying that any of you guys have to do that, but if someone doesn’t tell them they are going to just continue being dumb in other games.
To be fair, Anet was under no obligation to throw in a free character slot.
Agreed.
And players were under no obligation to buy an expansion which had a new profession as one of its selling points, but which did not include a character slot with which to explore that selling point.
Now to see if that was part of the lesson learned.
I’m hoping they learned that “no armor in the gem store, only outfits” was a fantastic way to choke off a good revenue stream.
“The performance of HoT was not as expected. We learnt the lesson.”
After playing WoW for several years, that’s not something I thought I would ever hear from an MMO company – admitting they made mistakes.
Been hearing it since Southsun Cove was released. :/
You are aware that some players wouldn’t set foot in PvP for all the tea in China. Or in this case clovers.
Then play the login game or buy the coins.
Gw2 has the biggest portion of entitled players among games they believe that anything they want should be dirt cheap and if not then be forcefully made that way but at the same time anything that drops at loot be worth hundreds of gold. lol
Which I do but it gets a little tiresome when people think that PvP is the easy solution to these type of issues. It’s not a matter of entitlement, just the presumption that everyone plays PvP so it’s a non-issue.
I remember a post not to long about about the price of mystic coins going up and up, where I totally get the supply vs demand, a dev did say anet was monitoring the situation around these,
Given that they are needed for making mystic clovers which relies massively on RNG being in your favour to get the clovers as quick as possible, its making the costs of clovers crazy to make now,
Coins are pushing past 65silver each,
We need a new way to get coins, be it from converting laurels or by other means, I know they added them to the fractal chests as a random drop but its too random, maybe we need a dedicated recipe for making clovers that is non RNG based,
If anet are still watching this how much longer are you going to watch it, do they need to sell for 1g each before something happens, in the last 60 days they have nearly doubled in price, with demand vastly outstripping supply by 10:1 if anet are adding more to the game, there not adding them fast enough, or its to RNG based.
Why is it that you think there’s a certain price that mystic coins should trade at? For a long time, they were cheap and no one wanted them. The accumulated like crazy for certain veterans and folks demanded that ANet make them valuable. Now, they are in higher demand and other players are demanding that ANet “do something”.
I think the higher price is great for new players, who get a chance to earn extra from their daily login rewards and it’s mostly ok for veterans who can afford the higher rate. It also turns previously low-value Mystic Forge recipes into valuable ones.
I’m not suggesting that it would be okay if the supply keeps dropping and the price keeps rising. I am, however, saying that there’s no particular “right price” or “wrong price”.
Most peoples problems are.not the price, but that the only way to get then is very limited for something that is used for a fair few things.
Completely ignores that mats went up at the update because that’s when a new legendary dropped and that gems probably went up because they released another wing set and every stand alone mini that was in the store was just retired for now and they brought back every one of the baby animals…
Those ghost trebuchets/cannons in Diessa Plateau…how does that even work? They were never alive, how can they be ghosts too?!
We have to go to a Trading post npc to pick up items or gold, but we can sell items without one… how does that work? How do items disappear from your inventory without the npc?
That’s an easy one. Pay attention and you can actually see the mail carrier dove lifting off when you sell something.
Sadly, one was recently removed from the Cliffside fractal – the veteran novices.
