If we hold that:
a. ArenaNet wants you to play how you want and
b. the loot system is designed to achieve that goal by distributing items across all playstyles and
c. this results in lots of unwanted loot that must go somewhere and
d. not all of it has a demand on the trading post then
e. the Mystic Forge is a necessary part of the in-game economy in that it completes the cycle of loot.
The whole point of Guild Wars 2 is you do the same stuff at level 1 as you do at level 80.
It’s not like some other games where you rush to the top to get to the “real” game. The stuff that’s supposed to be “Endgame” content was never gated to begin with. (Hence why PvP and WvW upscales you)
Finish the story (Including LW instances)
Explore and do map completion.
Run Dungeons and Fractals
Hunt Achievements
Complete all the Jumping Puzzles
Join a guild/do guild missions
Or start your own guild and max it out,
Play activities and minigames
Collect armor and weapon skins to pimp out your character(s)
Build a legendary weapon
Wander maps and do dynamic events
Kill all the world bosses
That’s the stuff you do in PvE at both level 1 and Level 80. And then there’s PvP and WvW content.
If you already did all that stuff, congratulations, you should probably take a break from this game anyways. (and there’s no subscription, so that’s not a big deal) and if NONE of those activities appeal to you, then you might want to consider a different game.
And yeah, as mentioned before, if you just want more level 80 zones and bosses, the expansion is coming… eventually… We still have no clue when or just what this new “Challenging group content” will be, and how much of it will be added, so we’ll see how that turns out
Hello as someone who speedruns dungeons i would find it extremely helpfull if you were to add an player filter that can be set based on the desired number of ap , gear stats etc so people who dont have those cant join and i dont have to do gearcheck, thanks.
Make a Speed Clear Dungeon Guild. nod Then you only have to gear check once and you can pick from the pool of like-minded individuals. Don’t LFG expecting such things. And I seriously doubt that will ever come here and thank goodness for that. I also like that there is no inspect feature. Inclusivity is far better than exlusionary things for a small subset of players.
“What Part Of Living Says You Gotta Die?
I Plan On Burnin Through Another 9 Lives”
idk, you could just put it away?
You could, but that’s a pain to have to remember every time you decide to go into WvW or PvP.
Instead of stealthing minis, I prefer an option allowing one to have them ‘off’ for WvW and/or PvP. That way the game doesn’t have to figure out if minis count against limits for how many allies are affected by fields etc or any other sometimes complex calculations. Instead, it’s just the one: always off in competitive modes.
Or just don’t show minis to enemies at all. Should help a bit with client performance in bigger fights too.
In every other MMO out there, you can farm to acquire materials to create something, it takes some time, but you can, you have a DECENT drop rate. But in GW2 you can’t, even with high magic find you only get junk and the drop rate of good materials (the T6) are ABYSMAL (to be gentle).
“B-but you have moldy bags!”
Do you mean those bags that have a 0.0000000000000000001% chance of T6 mats and a lot of Thick Leather Section?Yes, it is a complain, but what i want to know is, why we can’t farm the materials? Why it boils down to farm gold like a madman in dungeons and fractals?
I think the main reason is because how the economy and tp works.
Anet tries to make it very hard to farm all the mats for your own demand because if everybody could easily farm his own mats, those that dont need it, wouldnt be able to sell their drops. That would result in alot of useless drops.
IF there goal was to prevent useless drops then they’ve failed abysmally.
No, their goal was to make sure that the drop that is useless to you, is still valuable to someone else, so you could barter it for gold and choose what you buy with it.

Still keeping with the random troll posts and imaginary scoreboard, I see.
The only people who think we’re waiting 3 years for an expansion are people who aren’t actually paying attention to what’s been going on. Or people who decided there must be expansions and started counting from day 1 when no paid expansion was actually in the works.
This.
Ping is NOT a reliable way to identify network latentcy….just general connectivity. It is NOT uncommon for servers to NOT prioritize (or even respond at all) to a ping request.
Use TraceRT for finding routing or latency issues.
Assuming issues like this are the Anet servers because “all my other internet works fine”, is just technically incorrect and simply shows you are not aware of how the internet really works.

Actually I didn’t mean that sarcastically, well the “dot dot dot” part is but that’s more me stuck working in the system and not directed to anyone on the forums.
I have been poking about this fix for a month now or so internally now. Been asking to get someone in here to talk to everyone about this bug and what’s up with it but as of yet no dice. I am doing everything I can to get this resolved or some explanations for you guys.
But yeah, I have some extremely tied hands and poking with my poking stick is about all I can do because I don’t control development or production schedules or design decisions. I do take screenshots of comments and paste them into some internal emails though… And the # of live reports, and the forum links, etc. I can make a huge ruckus when it’s needed, but in general everything I do is behind the scenes and I don’t take credit or spill the beans on what occurred to get it to that point.
While I have all the answers, really I am the next thing to a walking encyclopedia of the GW2 bug DB at any time, I can’t really go around shouting what is happening one way or the other because it can change daily… and letting some things I know be known would probably result in my not working for ArenaNet anymore. That’s something that would be kinda poopy and I would like that not to happen, so I avoid it and instead just say slightly nebulous things like “soon” when I see a fix coming for the next release. One day that “soon” will have some real intent behind it. Today actually seems like a good day to “soon” some threads so…
Also yes, reading and responding on the forums is not actually part of my job. I got to a point where I just really didn’t like how you guys felt ignored in this forum and I’m trying to do something about it. I tend to only post positively and I won’t respond to all threads.
tl;dr I will keep fighting the good fight on your behalf.
I support this thread.
Lauren is going above and beyond about this and other bugs. I’ve told her personally, and I’ll say it here: I’m delighted that she is posting in our forums. Often she’s doing it because she spots a thread. And I’ll confess it, occassionaly she’d doing it because she sees my plaintive e-mails asking, “Bueller? Bueller????” and she strives to find that answer!
I hope that everyone will take on board that she will — we each will — share info when we have it and when it’s appropriate to share it.
Basically, I’m asking that despite your impatience or your irritation with a situation, despite the occasional desire to flare up, you please please do your best to stay on topic and remain respectful in your posts. Many /most of the people who contribute to this forum are not required to do so. And the forum is a much better place because they are involved! I believe we all are, or certainly should be, grateful to Lauren and the many others (like Evan, and Lawton, and Michael, and Justin, and Jeffry, and Jon, and Bobby, and Cody, and… and… ALL the peoples at ArenaNet!) who are active here. Please keep them in mind, as the nice, creative, and helpful people they are!

For trinket items and such, you have to right click and choose “Unlock in collection” to unlock them in their collection categories. As was suggested above, you have to contact support (with one ticket) to see if they can help you out.
Lauren, the QA Lead, made an intriguing statement yesterday about an upcoming bug fix:
It won’t be next release, but there is progress being made. This fix will debut on a release day to much fanfare though.
Maybe im interpreting too much into it but it could be that we might get a bigger release. Soonish.
Might also be only a hint that the next instrument in the gem store will be a trumpet.

Well, im sure its not an illusion, its just being lucky at the start and then fate decided me as a person should stop being lucky. Seems its out of the hands of anet and in the hands of a higher power, i guess the force wasnt as strong in me during may the 4th.
Same reason why ‘fate’ decided that i should be hacked during the 3rd week after release and lose everything but decided to give me my most prized possesion back (the gold seller missed my corrupted weapon lol)
No, the perceived streaks and “lucky” periods are the illusion. Any random distribution will have places that appear to have an unbalanced spread, but that’s because humans are wired to see patterns in the world.
We don’t need to see it in-game, sometimes good video evidence is enough for me to track down who it was. In this case, the video was enough for me to find out who it was and take action. Thanks for the video, and to accompany your video, I give you this video of his account’s last moments:
Oh yah, he’s also banned
You should match his login IP to other accounts, and go after his main. Banning that account is punishment, but if it were a throw away account that he got for the $10 sale, then he may do it again.
I never said this was the only one of his accounts that was banned
Downside of this is that there is a kind of witch hunt going down..I was roaming wvw for daily purposes, evaded with Shortbow skill 3 upon stumbling on an enemy but dc’ed after that. Upon returning (yay for ssd drive
) , I got this whisper from someone who’s name shall remain hidden (although my fingers are itching to place it here!!) that he has reported me for speedhacking ! I explained to the player this was not the case, but sure enough, player blocked me..
How is ANet dealing with false allegations ? Any of you encountered this ?
This is the result of the general population’s perception that Anet doesn’t act on hackers (it’s irrelevant whether they do act or not). If you think lots of hackers are around, you’re going to “see” one every time you witness something unfamiliar (like the shortbow 3 example here). This means tons of false reports that make it even harder to deal with real hackers.
I’ve said this before, to solve this, Anet needs a “surge” of devs who, for a couple weeks, will act and purge the game of hackers/trolls. Reducing the perception that hackers are everywhere will reduce the number of false reports, and will make it easier for devs to check up on reports once the surge is over.
We don’t need to see it in-game, sometimes good video evidence is enough for me to track down who it was. In this case, the video was enough for me to find out who it was and take action. Thanks for the video, and to accompany your video, I give you this video of his account’s last moments:

It’s high time that something be brought to the attention of the Puppet Masters playing this game. Though I admit to a certain amount of bitterness in this regard, I still cannot keep silent at the injustice of it all.
You see, I USED to be the Puppet Master’s favorite. Her beloved MAIN. Then she made a (yes, you got it) a WARRIOR. This warrior, this usurper, stole my place in the Puppet Master’s heart. Suddenly, instead of adventuring all over Tyria, slaying dragons, collecting materials, and more or less saving the entire known (alright, fine, the REACHABLE) world, I was cooling my (Masterwork only) heels in Divinity’s Reach.
SHE was suddenly going everywhere, doing everything. SHE got to sun herself in Southsun Cove, (all the while flirting outrageously with Lord Faren, I might add. Disgusting.) bungee jumping in Dry Top, and collecting Mordrem guts in Silverwastes. (Okay, so I’m not really jealous about the gut-collecting, but still.) It’s the principle of the thing. I didn’t get to see ANY of it except for the tiny, little first part of Dry Top because the Puppet Master’s boyfriend needed help out there, and she wanted to get rewards for something she’d already done with HER.
Guess who’s NOT wearing shiny Ascended amulets, rings, and earrings! Guess who IS wearing all the finest in Damask and Deldrimor! And don’t even get me STARTED on makeovers! I haven’t had my hair redone since sob LAUNCH! Can you believe that? How is that even remotely fair? SHE has had HER hair done 4 or 5 times already. Plus, she got a facial!
While I occasionally am let out of town whenever the daily HAPPENS to be something the Puppet Master can easily get in Queensdale or other nearby locations, I don’t get to carry around those fancy Mad Scientist tools when I do. Oh, no. I’m still slaving away with a combination of boring orichalcum ones and those ridiculous frostbitten tools that blow freezing cold snow into my face every time I use them. When I complain about this obviously unfair discomfort, the Puppet Master just smiles and says she really needs to use these frostbitten tools up because she wants more room in the bank for “more important” items. Guess who’s going to get a SECOND legendary!
As you can see by now, my fellow alts, this willful violation of my Kormir-given rights has got to be addressed. If this keeps up, I can kiss hangliding and mushroom-hopping in the jungle good-bye. (And let’s face it, as an engineer, I am the BEST one to go to the jungle and meet all those new poison-producing frog people).
Another thing. I’m not a Sylvari, (I’m a ravishing red-headed human) and even though the Puppet Master’s Sylvari is an alt, too, SHE’S been getting an awful lot of attention lately. The Puppet Master is acting like that sorry excuse for a salad is going to go see the jungle BEFORE me.
The situation is intolerable. I know I am not alone in this forced disrespect, this unfair ignoring of my full potential. How can I be expected to be all that I was created to be if the Puppet Master won’t even spend so much as a transmutation charge on me?
I say it’s time to stop standing in the character log-in screen, moving our heads from side to side, and looking like we can take on the world but never get to do more than the occasional daily or craft yet another piece of Elonian leather before being tossed back out again.
I say we, the Alts, unite! Tell me your stories of shame and pain! Take back your dignity! Together we will wrest our legendaries, ascended armor, makeovers, and right to explore the world from those snooty, spoiled Mains!
WHO’S WITH ME?
Today I wanted to set Magic Find Bonfire on Dry Top for everyone but sadly, before activation I’ve used standalone MF booster and this action blocked me from picking MF in Bonfire so I was able only to chose between XP or Karma.
Already worn booster shouldn’t affect ability of setting up a Bonfire and I’m pretty sure there’s a possibility of detection if character got ongoing booster.
It’s not of course an urgent issue but really annoying one because it happened to me few times.
Maybe he skinned a precursor over a white weapon……
ANet may give it to you.
I’m going to leave this thing of beauty here:
They’re removing Skill Points. What about all those MF recipes that need mats you can only get with skillpoints?
You can never get those mats again, ever. They’re removing everything from the game that involved that resource. That includes legendaries, despite making a new system that technically will make it easier, or at least more reliable to get a legendary.
Or, more likely, they will change the process by which those mats are acquired.
-Mike O’Brien
Because we can’t be angry about both?
I’ve been reading thread after thread about how ‘my build is ruined…qq’ and ‘i hate change…qq’.
But frankly until the patch is live and everyone has change to experiment with these changes, there is no reason to complain. From my point of view, every single class has been improved. Yes, some obviously broken but fun skills (ice bow) were lowered, but until the patch is live, we just don’t know. Their goal is to make everything viable and fun and not to just faceroll everything.
I, if you didn’t know, only play ranger; so I’ve been paying close attention to the ranger thread. Sure, there are a lot of great changes coming, but it seems all the ‘experts’ are finding every single thing they don’t like and blowing it out of proportion. Like they said, this is not the final product, it is a work in progress.
I would assume since they are redoing the trait system that many, if not all, skills will be updated and adjusted to work/function better.
tl;dr Calm down. You are not an ‘expert’. Until the changes are live, we just don’t know what will come to fruition.
Honestly, making dyes is generally a waste of materials. If you’re just wanting to unlock dyes, it’s better to just buy them on the TP.
Either update or delete this thread — dailies are not like this anymore.
I’m stepping in here now. I think perhaps that Lauren’s recent involvement — for which I know we’re all grateful! — may have put her in the line of fire, just a bit.
So let’s figure this out. The fact that we have a QA Lead posting about various issues is a real boon, but comments like “explain your thought process” and “give us more information,” or “we expect this immediately!” are utterly counterproductive.
We like knowing more, here in Forumsland. We like getting the information that a bug is a known issue, that something is on the slate for correction, that the devs need additional information to reproduce the problem, or — happy days! — that a fix is coming.
Players like to know this stuff.
We like to tell you this stuff.
Even if the most we can say is “soon” and not “at 11:54 AM on XX date.”
The solution to nearly all game bugs involves multiple people. That means that Tom may have worked his bit, but Mary may need to do the next step, or Fred might need to step in later down the pipeline. This means it’s usually not possible to give you a precise time for a fix. Not because we won’t, but because we can’t.
So ask yourself: What’s better — some information or nothing at all?
If, like me, you like to know that something is known and is being worked on, that this is a far greater comfort than hearing nothing at all, then please consider:
- Please don’t engage in circular posting.
- Please don’t repeat the same thing again and again. (That was circular posting, see what I mean?
)
- Please read the dev posts and inform yourself of the latest news, knowing that if there is more information, we’ll try to provide it.
- Please treat those taking their time to post — which is not required of them — with respect and, dare I say it?, a modicum of kindness.

BTW, the ping number we show in the client on the options screen is probably different than you see in other games. We should name it something different. Traditionally the ping time is the time it takes for a packet to get to a server and back. In our case, it is the time to get to the server, get processed by the game map you are in, and then sent back. So our misnamed “ping” is much more variable than most ping numbers because it includes game processing time.
… except we have a report of a person using -prefreset and their problems went away …
my post didnt say that damask is broken its more about suggestion that will we ever have different ways to get the materials for damask so we can farm them with ourselves in the new HoT system, im talking about masteries and map rewards theyve implemented in HoT not the one we currently have but i also agree in other comment that currently the ways of getting the material for damask than the amount of damask we need does not match.
what i wanted are some kind of HoT content like for say masteries to get cloth that you put masteries into it and get benefit for getting more cloth when you salvage. something like that or like when you finish a jumping puzzle or events on a certain map youll get wool as a “map reward” for your daily damask crafting. These kind of content is what i wanted to “fix” the lack of ways (imo) to get the cloths we need to craft our endgame gear not only for our mains which is mostly got thier full set but for our alts also
Before you suggest something to be “fixed”, you first have to find something that is “broken”.
Damask is perfectly fine the way it is. If you’re not happy with the accumulation of cloth, I may have posted a way to get around this. You’d have to dig through my posts, as I’m too lazy to look myself. The quickie version is to use Karma to buy Linen based armors, forge them, and then salvage. By doing this, I’ve made stacks of Linen to both sell on the TP, and to use to make more Damask. If you’re worried about Karma costs, Karma comes by fairly easily in WvW or EotM.
So I had a pretty interesting idea that I haven’t really seen brought up before.
A button/function/feature that allows the player to have his character shout out a line. Like a battle cry or something of the sort. The idea came to me today when I heard my character randomly saying “Victory or Death” after I activated my elite.
It already exists in the game right now – but it is random and not under your control – what I’m talking about is Character Shouts.
I think we’ve all heard our characters saying they can outrun a centaur or telling others to eat dust a million times. Wouldn’t it be cool if we could have a say in what our characters have to say during battle? ( see what I did there?)
It would have to come with some form of cool down – to prevent people endlessly spamming to annoy others but I could see it work.
It could be a fun way to give characters more depth while not dedicating massive amounts of work and resources on Anet’s side.
They could even have cool lines associated with hard to earn titles or collections. Heck they could even put some in the gem store.
The possibility is out there and I think it would make GW2 a much cooler place.
