Giant Eye and new map bonuses

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Phil.7369

Phil.7369

With the release of HoT each map in Central Kryta has its own individual Map Bonuses, mostly crafting materials and some other items and of course the relative Dry Top/Silverwastes rewards for those 2 maps.
These Rewards seem to be account-tied, as switching to another character in your account will not affect the ‘’Next Reward’’ of a map nor will exiting GW2.

Each Map has its own range of possible rewards and this range of rewards is the same for every player and every account
The higher the map level, the higher the tier and rarity (Lodestones) of the crafting materials awarded from it.
Some maps also award loot related to their environment and creatures that spawn there. Southsun Cove can give Karka Shells and Kessex Hills can give Pristine Toxic Spore Samples.

The order of the rewards for a Map Bonus doesnt seem to be important. For example in Cursed Shores, the Destroyer Lodestone stands below the Elaborate Totem and Destroyer Core, but above the Pile of Incandescent Dust and Pile of Crystalline Dust. But we all know that currently the Lodestone has a higher price than all of the above Materials.

All accounts begin from the same reward-item for each map, ie. Vial of Powerful Blood for Malchor’s Leap. Note that any item can be awarded twice or more in a row.

The first explorable areas of each race (Queensdale, Caledon Forest, Metrica Province, Wayfarer Foothils and Plains of Ashford) and the WVW maps do not give any Map Bonuses.

Presumably these items are awarded upon the completion of an Event, but that didnt always seem to be the case. I did a few tests in Mount Maelstrom with 5 events.
Defeating 2 of the Hidden Garden Keepers did award me with a Map Bonus Reward (2x Powerful Venom Sacs). The Champion Golem inside the CoE area, a huge Champion fish and 3 veteran Kraits (event) did not give any award, although all 3 of them are counted as an event.

Now I noticed that some maps have some very interesting items within their possible rewards:
Shiny Bauble can be earned from various maps.
Unidentified Dye from Diessa Plateau
Box of Cooking Supplies from Gendaran Fields
Azurite Crystal from Harathi Hinterlands
Obsidian Shards & Onyx Lodestone from Fireheart Rise
Charged Lodestone from Straits of Devastation! kudos to Anet for that, lets hope they didnt decrease its overall drop rates with this patch tho.

The most surprising one is Giant Eye from Mount Maelstrom. Currently siting at 6 gold in the Trading Post (was 6,7 gold before i started writing this post~30 mins earlier). Now would be a good time to sell them, as the price will drop even more after new brave adventurers make their way on the top of… IN the core of the mountain in search for Giants and their… eyes.
And who knows, maybe Anet will award each player with a point in their Giant Slayer achievement track if they manage to find one’s eye.
Dont forget to add to your Watch List

Anyway, I checked the wiki to see all the events in that Map and there are only 2 Meta Events (Mega-Destroyer and capture CoE). Perhaps the ‘’deliberately fail the 2nd or 3d event of the chain to start from the 1st again’’ strategy will help players in farming some Giant Eyes or maybe some other Event in the Map that trigger very often. Haven’t tested any of them so far.

P.S. I will not bother attaching pictures of every map, as rewards are the same for every player and all one has to do is open his Map(M) to see them.

They don’t own the ambients. Don’t start deliberately griefing them in retaliation of course, but you have just as much right to kill ambients as they do. If they start harassing you, report and block.

So dungeon rewards... why?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Behellagh.1468

Behellagh.1468

Dungeon rewards, the cash part, is what they’re changing. Every time someone does an explorable mode dungeon 1 gold 24 silver is created out of thin air.

That’s bad for the economy.

How’s that bad for the economy?

Because it injects “new” gold into the economy. If it’s not drained away fast enough more gold in the economy leads to classic inflation.

If it was about the economy and inflation they would have added repair costs back or replaced some of this new gold with items like in silverwastes.

John said it himself, armor repair was too small of a sink to matter in the big scheme of things. It wasn’t a deterrent to not dying, it was an annoyance to new players.

And I will talk slowly and in caps so this comes through loud and clear.

ANET DOES NOT WANT PLAYERS TO PLAY DUNGEONS AS FREQUENTLY AS THEY DO TODAY.

It’s not just about the gold coming in, they will be moving some of that to other game areas, they don’t want players playing them just for the rewards. It’s okay for the tokens but that’s it. Rest of you bums, go do the stuff we are willing to work on rather than the stuff we think is broken beyond repair but simply can’t get rid of for story reasons.

We are heroes. This is what we do!

RIP City of Heroes

Time to nerf SW farming and more guild stuff

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

They are indirectly nerfing the chest train by making shovels a component in mine upgrades in the guild hall.

I like this approach better. people can choose to chest train, or choose to have guild upgrades. That’s more fun than straight up nerfing loot.

As of right now SW is the only open world zone that’s actually rewarding to play as intended. They aren’t nerfing SW. If you haven’t noticed they’re actually buffing loot everywhere else with the map reward system.

So about silk

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

What exactly seems to be the problem here?

Silk price has been quite stable since ascended armor got introduced, so i dont know why they should cut its demand by 33%, 50% or 66%. It would bring it back to vendor value in no time and even add additional demand on all the other tier cloth, which would go up in price.

If Anet things that silk is getting too expensive, and I dont think they do, they will do the same as last year around this time. Adjust the faucets a bit, with new LS reward mechanics and Seasonal Festivals, instead of cutting demand by a ridiculously high amount.

Standing still and mashing a rotation is exactly what you get with the trinity.

Standing still and mashing a rotation is exactly what you get with BAD ENCOUNTER DESIGN.

Players don’t do it because the classes promote it… they do it because the encounters permit it.

Sigil Stack

in Players Helping Players

Stacking sigils will only do one stack at a time. So, the Bloodlust, Life, and Momentum sigils you have in will not work at the same time.

I’d for sure get rid of the Sigil of Life (it’s pretty much useless). If you’re wanting to focus on doing more damage, keep the Bloodlust sigil (I’d personally keep that one, no matter what). You could get a Sigil of Force for more damage.

If you are not doing events in Orr and are complaining about no drops, it is because you are doing it wrong.

Equal does not mean fair
Fair does not mean equal

Is this equal for all races? No.
Is this fair to the story and the player base? Yes.

Personally I think it is great storytelling when telling a story about the dragon who created the race. As others have mentioned, I’m sure they will do something similar (but not the same) with other races with future expansions. You have choices and just as much opportunity as the rest of people. Play it, watch it, read about it, etc. as you see fit, but please do not presume it is bad design because you don’t like it.

It’s better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

I’m like a few weeks into this game and I already understand how it all works, so this level of confusion and anger over the fact that they rotate items in the shop to create rarity is very perplexing…I mean this isn’t something they just started doing a few weeks ago right?

call it artificial or not it creates rarity, and for people do buy outfits/skins rarity adds value. I don’t want to pay $15 on a set then a few months later see everyone and their mother using them, I’m actually happy when I get something decorative and I see its going to not be available, I know I’m not going to see everyone running around with it. Artificial rarity or not I’m not paying money to look like everyone else whos paying money.

This isn’t a new concept and Anet isn’t the first to do it. I’m way more inclined to buy something I like if I know its going to be rare, especially when I’m paying to look unique. I’m honestly not sure how many here cant understand this, and or hate the concept.

I mean bunny ears would be lame if anyone who wanted them could. The only reason people want them is because they are super rare.

1 Player Dungeons?

All of the story instances are solo. That’s the vast majority of Anet’s content. As of S2 they even made sure to add challenge achievements so that there’s something less faceroll to play them for, and some of those are pretty tough, it’s basically the same feel as secondary missions in GW1, without the whole group reliance.

ArenaNet: Are these items obsolete now?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Suggestion to ANet: when quest or event items become obsolete, either because the event is over and not going to be repeated or the quest chain objective has been completed (as in the case of the Star of Gratitude quest line), associated quest items disappear from player inventory. Bag/Bank space is premium so it would be really, really great if a feature like this could be implemented.

I know of several players who intentionally save all of these various mementos. Some items have automatically disappeared and have upset some players who hang on to such items.

I believe it would be better to simply add a red-text notice on the item’s description after an even finishes and the item no longer has any use stating:

  • This item no longer has any usefulness and is safe to destroy or sell.

This way, players who like to hang on to things from past events can. As it is, some items cannot be gotten again and were automatically removed from player inventories. They’re almost like trophies of accomplishments and keepsakes to show “I was there” and having them get automatically destroyed would not be ideal.

Secondary use for Essence of Luck?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: AzureSky.3175

AzureSky.3175

The problem is that the purpose of Luck is to increase MF on an account.
If Anet gave Luck any other beneficial use, then players that have not maxed MF would always have to choose: Do I want to increase my MF? Or do I want to use this Luck for something else? And that would completely kill Luck’s original purpose.
So, if Anet decides to give Luck any other uses, they can only be ‘one time only things’, or uses that are far, far inferior to adding Luck to your account MF, so that people wouldn’t even consider keeping their luck as long as they can still increase their MF with it.

Turn Hearts into Events!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Just a flesh wound.3589

Well there are 303 hearts in the game right now. Making them into dynamic events instead of hearts will take some time. Do you think they should do this before the expansion comes out? Or maybe do it after, while they are busy fixing the inevitable bugs and (hopefully) working further on the next stage of the game, moving further westward towards where the dragon is.

imo, vanilla Tyria isn’t going to get big updates anymore. The game and the devs attention is moving outward into the expansion areas and beyond. I doubt they are going to take a substantial amount of time to rework the old content any time soon.

Sad Trinity is Sad

Most people here don’t understand the current meta at all…

what warrior spec is meta?
support (PS + banners) or dps? → support warrior

why is there still a thief in group although ele would bring more dps? → stealth for trash skipping (support) and blinds for trash killing (control)

why do you bring a guardian? → support (stability, reflect, protect, blocks) and control (immo)

why do eles use icebow? dps (skills 4) and just as important deep freeze (skill 5) which is control.

Also eles and guardians give healing so everyone in the group constantly gets the 10% damage buff from scholar runes (another support)

→ current meta already is not about just one role (dps) it already is a trinity of dps, support and control

Additional Dye Customization

Can you please add additional dye options for some minor character customizations like norn tattoos and character hair accessories? Currently the only way to change these things is through makeover kits, but it’s such a waste of a makeover kit just to change a color. I would even feel it is worth it to have this be a gem store item where we could purchase the feature unlock from the gem store.
