[Idea] In-game postcards!

[Moved topic from art creations here]

Hello,

Well... yesterday I found very old pile of my postcards what I received when I was kid. And that gave me idea - why not revive boring mailing in game, with some fashion and style?
And stamps! Oh, I remember how much of them I collected ... still having them stored inside philatelic stamp albums...

So I am asking for your feedback, ideas and opinions - would You like to see it in game? If yes, I try to make more exaples in free time.

Postcards
I see few options with them, for example:
* City Postcard series - 6 postcards to collect (Black Citadel, Divinity Reach, The Grove Hoelbrak, Rata Sum)
* Special occasion postcards series - postcards with holiday/event themes, like Valentine Day, Dragon Bash, Wintersday and other
*
Stamps
Another example ideas:
* City Stamps series - 6 stamps to collect (Black Citadel, Divinity Reach, The Grove Hoelbrak, Rata Sum)
* Special occasion stamps series - postcards with holiday/event themes, like Valentine Day, Dragon Bash, Wintersday and other
* Fauna of Tyria series - stamps with Tyria fauna
* Flora of Tyria series - stamps with Tyria flora
* Cat-o’-holic series - stamps with pictures of cats (miniatures), rare stamp with Chauncey von Snuffles III, etc.

Trading Post
Some of special occasion stamps and postcards would be available via trading post. I think 25-50 gems for stamp/postcard would be okay.
World loot and jumping puzzle chests
Rest of postcards and stamp would be randomly lootable in world, or for example in jumping puzzle chests. Of course, would be there super low % chance for getting the rarest ones.
Dungeons and fractals
Some rare and very rare stamps would be obtainable via dungeons and fractals completion, with very small % chance of drop at the end.

Yes! I think they should be - that would help us, to get Our collections completed faster. Also, that would remove some gold from game (TP transactions etc.). Of course special postcards and stamp wouldn’t be tradeable - they should be account bound.

Dolphin.2574
- Some of stamps/postcards should be obtainable via vendors
Linfang.1087
- Some of stamps/postcards should be obtainable via completion of heart vendors, using karma as currency
TheBlackLeech.9360
- There should be item called [Unidentified stamp], equivalent of Unidentified dye

Can see preview of my idea in attachment below:

40+ hour of nolifing Revenant BWE2 review

in Revenant

Mosharn.8357

[IMPORTANT] Before we start, those of you that don’t know what rev skills do please take some time to look through them on this site: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vlAQBAA

I will discuss the majority of the stuff I tested( Sorry anyone looking for Venatri stuff here, didn’t have time since work). Also I didn’t test this in pve. The majority of the time spent testing was in wvw group fights, solo roaming in wvw, unranked, ranked pvp matches, and duels. I would also like to add I did not have enough time to fully test out condition Mallyx. I will do another nolife test next beta weekend for Ventari/Mallyx builds and pve stuff as a Revenant too.

Legendary Stances:

Shiro
You basically have to make every utility count and can’t make many mistakes. The closest thing I can compare it to is an S/D thief because of the mobility and evades. If you use the utilities wrongfully or spam Riposting Shadows and Phase Traversal then you can be killed very easily since your energy bar will die.

Enchanted Daggers- You have to stick to your target while using this to grab the healing or it can be negated very easily.

Phase Traversal- If you spam it to get to someone you will have to switch legends otherwise you will get destroyed since zero energy. Good to catch low health runners for a finish. Energy cost is fair for what we get and it will punish spammers heavily.

Jade Winds- A lot of revs could not use this skill effectively because to use elites on rev, you are required to have a good sense of energy management. If you miss this then you are forced to switch legends or waste your dodges. Very balanced for the trade offs.

Jalis
The costs of Jalis are high to prevent spamming and made me feel very uncomfortable. The buff to Vengeful Hammers was needed and they are in a great spot now. Jalis gives us access to a condi removal and stab along with % dmg decreases. It would be nice if Forced Engagement was 40 energy instead of 50 because 50 seems a bit too high for what it does. I really had to think hard before using it because you give up too much for what you’re getting.

Mallyx
Our big answer to condis. If you aren’t running Mallyx then you are going to have a very tough time dealing with conditions. Out of Mallyx we have one condition removal on the Jalis heal, one in traits, and one on staff 4. We lack condition removal really badly and it really reminds me of warrior 2012(war had laughable condi removal and wasn’t used at all for a good time period after release). Mallyx also has no stun breakers so you have to be really careful with your positioning. You have no answers to being stun spammed unless you have the stun breaker trait on legend switch.

Unyielding Anguish- A lot of people that I fought were astonished to find out that this skill doesn’t care for stability. I think it’s fine how it is because 35 energy is a big hit to the energy. You can still be hit and damaged really harshly by ranged pressure if you try to use it as a ’’safe’’ area.

Glint
The very needed stance to give Rev a fighting chance. Sure you can become a walking banner but your energy regen takes huge hits and limits you to thinking very very carefully on how you use your weapon skills.

Infuse Light- This skill needs a bigger activation animation. Nothing over the top but something good enough to give the enemy a valid tell so they don’t fully heal you since its an instant cast.

Facet of Darkness/Gaze of Darkness- Great skill but I think it’s cooldown should be moved to 25 seconds. The active is a stunbreaker/reveal/and a blind so it should honestly have a 25 second cooldown time to keep it in line.

Facet of Elements- Good skill idea and will be tough to add in to rotations when people realize what it does. A lot of players stood in it without knowing what it does and it can hurt. Also I received a lot of reports from people I fought that visual of the skill made them lag. Im not sure if its a real issue or the people were playing on potatoes but it should be looked into, just in case.

Facet of Strength/Burst of Strength- A fine skill that you have to be patient with for the might to get stacking. The active part is hard to hit but the payoff is worth it. Does some nice damage as well.

Facet of Chaos/Chaotic Release- The passive upkeep is nice but you give up energy regen so have to be really careful when to keep it running. The active has a very obvious skill animation and a long cast time. I only used this to knock someone away from ressing a player or the downed player themselves. Using it in a fight requires a bit of finesse. Also made many of the players I fought against experience lag so you could really ’’chill’’ them. Should be looked into if any issues that cause it to drop peoples fps.

I hate spirit shards

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: rhapsody.3615

rhapsody.3615

I felt the same way, so I started doing the content that I know rewards spirit shards:
Daily + any daily that rewards tomes or writs
PvP: at least do the dailies for reward track tomes
Fractals: you can buy spirit shards with relics
Leveling and story: I didn’t keep count but I am sure I saw a surge in spirit shards while leveling and doing personal story on two alts

I did not farm the Silverwastes. I did not do anything that I didn’t find fun. Since the June update (I crafted a legendary around that time and was down to 0), I have received 600 or more spirit shards doing these things. I had enough to craft a legendary and change stats on two sets of ascended armor and weapons and still have some left over. When you’re counting each one it feels so slow, but it really does not take long to get there.

This slowed progression is good in my opinion. We are encouraged to use account bound currencies carefully and for ourselves, not for making more gold. Hopefully over time it will make spirit shards and mystic forge weapons more valuable. It’s kind of sad that mystic forge weapons are barely selling at the cost of making them.

Sad Trinity is Sad

Nike.2631

The standard trinity is fundamentally stupid because it hinges on “tanks” — a role based entirely on BAD AI BEHAVIOR. This is why you don’t see ‘trinity’ behavior in games played between people from table-top RPGs to chess or in the real world either. Intelligent gamers and real combatants do not attack the enemy with the toughest armor and least damage output first. This is why ‘tanks class’ always have to restructured in PvP (and why healer classes get mauled first, foremost, and always in PvP)… Intelligent opponents don’t waste their time on tanks unless the game does a triple backflip to force you to prioritize them (such as forced behavior like GW2s new taunt condition).

There’s a weird disconnect going on in this thread. People don’t trust a company with their phone numbers, but they do trust them enough to install software provided by them on their computers?

If I didn’t trust a company, I’d give them my phone number before I’d let their software run on my system. One can only do so much damage with a phone number, but software? Brrr…

What is the reason there is no trade system?

Obviously, they can make a trade system easily, but why didn’t they?

Curtis Johnson

Hey guys,

The no face-to-face trade is a real decision and it’s primarily a question of trust (as many of you have noted). But it’s also a decision to protect players from scamming and protect the economy from black-markets. Let’s run through some quick examples.

1) Give something to my friend. – As several of you noted, target your friend, right click the item and select ‘mail-to…’. Done, this works in contact list, guild list, or in world anywhere without having to ‘meet’ them or ‘catch’ them.

2) Get a fair price for an item (anti-scam). – Because ALL trading goes through the trading post we can guarantee that highest bidder meets lowest seller and we can give every player the benefit of current market information.

3) Barter item-for-item. This is the grey area and also the most risky kind of trade because even with UI many items look alike in icon and many social engineering scams take place in this kind of system. It’s a risky trade environment which is why when you support it you have to have these multi-stage UI’s where everyone double-checks everything, and then eventually get’s lazy and stops double-checking and gets scammed anyways.

In the end we decided with super easy access to mail for trusted trades and trading post for untrusted trades that such a system wasn’t worth the risk, complication, and fragmenting the player market off of the trading post..

In testing we’ve found that mail is easier 90% of the time we’d want trade and the other 10% trading post is far safer and avoids drama and thing like random trade windows being thrown at you and lots of other unsavory hawking in game.

Hope that all makes sense.

… was the response in beta.

Please note: Our studio — and that means our entire development team — is located in the United States, in the Pacific Time Zone. We work very hard to synchronize as many things as possible, but beta weekend events are best organized around the times that our development team will be able to devote as many hours as possible to testing, in-game observations, forum tracking, feedback reviews, and even possible on-the-fly changes. (The latter is not likely, but it has been known to happen.)

In no way do we want anyone to feel distanced by the hours chosen, and we do apologize if the hours are somewhat inconvenient for someone (although with a test that runs for a couple of days, surely not all hours will prove to be inaccessible ). For practical purposes, the hours selected are the best possible for the team developing this game for you, and we ask for your understanding of that fact.

This is not a preview, early start, or sneak peek. It’s a test. <— said in my Admiral Akbar voice, and if you get the reference, kudos to you!

Why not have Titles give passive buffs?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Dreamslayer.7659

Dreamslayer.7659

I don’t mind the idea of some cosmetic or audible changes, but I think titles should be their own reward. They show off what is important to you – pve, crafting, acquisition, etc.

If you add something else, it distorts the motive for going after a title.

Also, two of my hardest accomplishments don’t even have titles (max dyes, max luck) so I’m voting no just out of bitterness.

There are a lot of terrific videos here and it pains me to rain on the parade of praise, by asking you guys to PLEASE please please include a link from your youtube recruitment video (and this thread) to your guild’s website (and if you don’t have one, please say so).

Lots of folks are looking for new guilds in preparation for HoT — make it easy for them to learn more and connect with your recruiters.

Thanks!

Such a great idea, IWN! Thanks for sharing that.

I’d also include a link to the video in the guild recruitment thread in this very forum.

So basically its money grab all over again…

Not really, since you can get transmutation charges by playing pvp, doing map completion (one guaranteed for each major city, and a chance for one for every other map), daily login rewards, etc.

In your screenshots, btw, the items you’re displaying aren’t the Skins from the gemstore. They’re items you applied the skin to, which means you already used up your one free transmute of the skin on those items. So, every other use of the skin on a new item requires a transmutation charge.

I do not understand these threads. “My family and I have played thousands of hours, but we feel ‘cheated’ because the person who is joining now plays the core game for free or pays just the one fee for Heart of Thorns.”

Let’s consider another type of purchase, that of DVDs. FotR was $30 when it came out on DVD. You now can get all three chapters of LotR for less than $20. But the person who buys now lost years of viewing pleasure because he didn’t own the video at release. LotR is shown for free on television, but that doesn’t negate the value of purchasing the DVDs, for those of us who chose to make those purchases. Imagine showing up at a DVD retailer and saying, “This movie is now free. I want money off another title.”

The hours in Guild Wars 2 that your family has enjoyed—very likely the thousands of accumulated hours—are not without value. They are not, to us, without cost. The 40 major updates we have made to the game that you have been enjoying for three years each add significant value to your purchases: Wintersday festivals that a new player will never be able to attend, major in-game events they’ll never see, drops that were only available to you, as a veteran player, during a limited period.

The position in the first post has been put forth by different people and successfully dispelled time and time again. OP — Please know that we greatly appreciate your support. I encourage you to make whatever purchase decision is best for you and your family. But please never forget that all you have gotten for each of your purchases does have value, in the overall view of things.

I think it’s worth bearing in mind precursor prices dropped significantly after it was announced that it would be possible to craft them in HoT. What we’re seeing might just be the prices going back up after the panic selling.

Similar situation with Elder wood, when everyone was farming Firefox clusters the price dropped, now there’s less farming so the price is going back up.

I dont think the HoT announcement had much to do with precursor prices going down in january. It had more to do with cheap t5 snowflakes flooding the market, making forging precursors very profitable during wintersday. If the HoT announcement was the trigger, i would assume pre prices going further down the closer we got to release, which wasnt the case. The popular pres all gained 30-50% in value since march.

The legend has definately seen the highest inflation but that is mostly due to the high elder wood cost and as mentioned by somebody else, staff is a popular weapon wielded by many classes.

Concerning crafting costs for a rare staff, you need 10 elder planks, 6 mithril ingots and 15 t5 mats.

In March, when the Legend was cheapest this year, it cost ~900g, now its ~1350g, so 50% more.
In march you paid 1.2s for an elder plank, 1.1s for mithril ingots and 1.7s for t5 mats.

1.2s x 10= 12s (27% of the overall value)
1.1s x 6= 6.6s
1.7s x 15= 25.5s

Now you pay:
Elder 3s x 10= 30s (48% of the overall value)
Mithril 1.2s x 6= 7.2s
t5 mats: 1.7s x 15s= 25.5s

Overall the crafting cost of a rare staff went from 44s to 63s, so also nearly 50%.

Those extra costs came nearly exclusively from elder wood.

Anet didnt nerf elder wood faucets, the player base simply stopped farming it enough.
Since there has been a lack of new content in the past 6 months, many player simply stopped playing or are leveling alts, which doesnt yield much elder wood.

At the end of June, when the new balance patch went live, many players went shortly back to their mains, to craft their new builds and try them out in lvl 80 content, which shortly injected some t5 fine mats, elder wood and mithril but that has ebbed down weeks ago.
Beta weekends also take a big regular mat faucet out of the game, as many players are on their beta accounts and dont farm mats for the regular market.

Why do mesmer lack blast finishers?

in Mesmer

Posted by: Fay.2357

Fay.2357

Ok, you’re so hilariously wrong I’m not entirely sure. Lets take a look…

Necro has one on a rarely used minion skill (and a skill which is mostly used as an escape and not a finisher), one on a second unreliable minion skill, and a single weapon-based Blast finisher.

Necro has (realistically) putrid mark and bone minions. The bone minions, while less commonly used, give them 2 blasts on a 20s cooldown, which is quite strong. Putrid mark is another blast on a 20s cooldown.

Ranger only has one outside of unreliable pet AI (and even then only two).

Ranger certainly is a bit lacking, but their single 30s cd blast finisher on warhorn is miles better than ours on the prestige.

Guardian has two on weapon skills and one on a summon which seems difficult to properly use the blast on.

LOL

Sorry, but the implication that guardian doesn’t have much access to blasts just made me laugh. Mighty blow is a blast finisher ON A 5 SECOND COOLDOWN. That they have other blast finishers too is just icing on the cake.

Thief only technically has two, though the fact that one is a weapon skill and the whole initiative aspect helps.

Thief has two. Both are incredibly strong. One is an instant utility, the other is a spammable weapon skill.

Heck, in general I’d say any class that isn’t Engi, Ele, or Warrior are all pretty close in their general lack of blast finishers.

And in general I’d say that this is the most inaccurate statement I’ve seen on these forums all week.

Zerker problem

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lux Dominatoris.3941

Lux Dominatoris.3941

Good day horvgab!

I understand your issue but I do not understand the following: why do you label a whole community, why do you label a whole type of playstyle, based on a few individuals, why do you wish for a style that would promote staleness, more segregation and lack of viability (trinity).

Your hate does not help the community at all and your trinity proposal is even more problematic. No one is forcing you to run anything, you are doing it yourself.

First of all, did you read the LFG you are joining? Out of respect for them and for you. Did they state “meta”, “zerk” etc? If yes, and knowing the fact that you do not like this playstyle, you showed hypocrisy since you joined while not respecting their demands. It was your choice. If not and it was a simple “all paths” or something along this lines, then I apologize on their behalf. Please bare in mind that every community has its extremists and it saddens me when persons like you are having this bad encounters.

Because the majority of time it leads to aggressive thoughts in regards of that community. Zerk is bad, it destroys the game etc. This is simply not the truth. Berserker is simply a playstyle that some people enjoy and others do not. We must understand that the game offers us the tools to really play how we want. In other MMOs if you do not fit in a certain playstyle, and you are getting kicked, you cannot open the LFG, made your own add, with your own playstyle and still be successful in that content. This game allows you too and this is the beauty of it.

You had a bad encounter? Block those players to avoid interaction (no, the hardcore community does not pride itself with these kind of players), open the LFG and state your add. You will meet like-minded people and even future friends! Some people (majority or not is irrelevant) prefer the berserker style. It is all about maxing your damage and supporting the party at the same time with the cost of “1 shot” from almost anything. The one shots are avoided from the said support, from your dodge, from learning the enemy tells, and from the time needed to drain its HP to 0.

I am part of these people. I am having the fun. I feel good, I met and made friends. I do not join parties I do not fit in and thus I have no relation to people that play differently than me. Thus no conflict. What you met are a bunch of extremists, that should not dictate your view on a playstyle or a whole community.

I have been in situations in which people that do not fit my play-style joined my party. They though I would not notice. I did and politely discuss with them just as I do with you. They all understood my POV, thanked me, left, made their own party and had fun! How do I know? They PM back saying they found a very quick like minded party. They did not believe they could because many people “scared” them. Some were “elitists” some were “casuals” it seems.

As you can see, the extremists from both groups are fortunately very few, but unfortunately very vocal. The persons you meet I like to call them “wanna-be”. They follow the meta theoretically (gear/trait/weapon/food setup) but 0% practically. Berserker, in order to survive the one-shots (not including support) is meant for people who know the boss, its tells and the encounter. You can put a suit and think you are special. Same here, you can put berserker and think you are pro. No you are not, and when situations like these arise, along with aggressiveness, a bad image in the eyes of players like you is created, and that is sad.

My advice would be make your own parties if you are using LFG, do not let your image be dictated by stereotypes, respect and you will be respected and do not create false impression for yourself. I am zerker, I speed run and I am a minmaxer. I am having fun every second and I am sure by following some advices and the in-game tools you will too!

Hope to see you in game!

Rant about gemstore selling strategy

You are selling pieces of pixels for a lots of real money

I’ve never understood this type of logic. I’m a writer, but I don’t sell “pages with letters on them.” I sell stories that takes months to write, and several months more to edit into a somewhat decent book I can be proud of. Same goes for ANet. They outfits in the store aren’t just pixels. They are hours and hours of hard labor. Isn’t that worth a few bucks, if you like said outfit? For that matter, isn’t every game just a bunch of code and pixels put together?

Heaven forbid a b2p game that charges nothing monthly have any business tactics so they can continue to provide service.

That argument went out the window the moment they started doing expansions. This behavior is more something you’d expect from a F2P. They’ll never get a $1 from me for gem store nonsense.

Yet another type of logic that’s completely lost on me. GW2 is a B2P game, so ANet isn’t “allowed” to make expansions? Really? Or do you mean they can make all the expansions they want, as long as they sell them piece by piece in the gem store? Sorry, I just don’t understand what you are trying to tell us. No offense.

Guild Wars 2 requires a one-time purchase, and that’s it. Now you can play all you want for free. Now it’s been three years since launch, and they are finally making an expansions. How on earth is that a bad thing, just because they have a gem store? I… don’t… get… it… scratches head Are you saying you’d prefer if we never got new areas, never got a new profession, never got masteries, never got specializations and so on? Or should they sell all that individually in the gem store? Nevermind, I’m too tired to try to make sense of this logic of yours.

Edit: What about games with a subscription, like WoW? Is it ok that they charge a lot of money every month so you can play AND charge extra for expansions?

At first glance, they changed NCSoft to ArenaNet, changed the formatting and merged the region-specific versions into a single document. I’ll take a closer look when time permits.

Thank you, Tub. I don’t have the edited version, so I was not able to make a tracked changes, and my time doesn’t really allow that now. I appreciate you doing the check about this, and confirming it’s basically “housekeeping” on the UA and PP.

Oh say, that’s been in there since before Guild Wars launched, back in 2005. I guess I’d call it “standard verbiage” and I know that I’ve asked about it, and it’s a corporate thing, but should not be seen as any sort of mechanism to start monthly fees. The entire company is behind the “There is no monthly fee” concept for GW and GW2, and that is not going to change.

My hero! Thank you for posting that. It’s old, but it bears repeating!

Why couldn't Elites get unique weapons?

There was flatly NO reason for them to confine themselves to a pattern across 9 classes that doesn’t actually improve their individual gameplay. In fact, making it clear now that they won’t be shooting for such meaningless pseudo-symmetry in future is a huge plus. Because really, most people complaining don’t care about the larger structure, they’re just irritated their pet choice didn’t make the cut in round one.

When round two comes along if it’s announce that Rangers are getting rifles you can bet the Thief-riffle-sniper fan club would be giddy to see they’re getting their favorite choice too because weapon’s can be duplicated in a wave and you KNOW the Swords-for-Elementalists party won’t give a flying skritt’s butt that Engineers are getting sword main-hand that wave too. They just want their sword.
