Can GW2 be saved?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

If you really want to save gw2, make a backup copy of all the files, especially after each update, and either put it in a cloud server, or an external hard drive. Its also a good idea to regularly make backup images of your OS just in case you need to restore anything.

Also saving in Gw2 is limited to your character progression and inventory. But this is done automatically, and off site, so there is no need for you to do anything to save your progress.

I fully understand what you are trying to accomplish here, a simple macro that will attempt to swap to a party member’s megaserver map that is full. Our stance is very clear on using any third-party program to automate game tasks (which has been gracefully copy/pasted above).

What you should know is that even if you decided you want to do this and spam join a megaserver map, it will not help you. Recently we implemented a system that will throttle and prevent a player from sending too many “join map” requests in short sucession. While this is not a solution to help players join full maps, it does somewhat even the playing field for multiple players attempting to join a full map.

I agree. Much of the forums is very negative, and even when a dev responds to the negative feedback with something positive its almost always met with more negativity. I am sure seeing something you’ve worked kitten being bashed can be very discouraging. Keep up the awesome work. You guys are awesome and amazing!!!!!!!

To say that " scarlet’s war" was " devestating" is Hyperbole at best….

As is claiming it made you yawn.

At least the developers don’t sound like pompous windbags that harshly judge everything because being picky to the point of unpleasable makes one, ‘cool’.

Let's appreciate time-limited content.

correllis.1428

Living breathing world and its lore aside, creating content that has a time limit brings us and the health of the game huge amount benefits.

Take crown pavilion for example. At the start of this content patch, only organised guilds are able to take it on. In no time, pick-up-groups are showing that they are capable too and we see surprising amount of success here. Gradually, we see more and more people participating and organising – which is all looking great at this point. Except we are seeing more botters and afkers dragging the entire team. We have a team of people organising vs a team of “non-helpful” people, and its a struggle downhill. With time-limited content, we experience this rise and fall as with all cycles and we move on.

Now imagine this content is permanent. At this point, devs will have to step in and do something. The time spent on this cleaning up they could have done creating new interesting ideas for us.

All in all, having fresh ideas throughout the seasons dont come without consequences and although imposing time limit isnt the most graceful, it brings us a healthy flow of content. And for this, let us take a moment to say we appreciate!

Will I have to pay for micro-updates ?

in Living World

Einlanzer.1627

I’m correcting you. You didn’t already pay for upcoming content.

To be fair all this LS stuff is developed post-launch so you’re not exactly entitled to any of it on account of buying the game. The dungeons, PS and open world at launch is what you’re entitled to. Even if the LS updates happen to contain those things you’re not entitled to them.

Best think of LS as DLC (just to be clear-I loathe DLC and thought it would do more harm than good for nearly 10 years now, but I digress) that you can play for free if you happen to log in during the launch week but you have to pay for later if you missed the launch period.

It’s an….interesting tactic. Log now or pay later…sneaky way of making people more inclined to at least log in-and once you’re logged in you might play a few mins. It’s not as good as an expansion (no leading by the nose you see)…but since they’re hell bent on this LS then this is an OK compromise I think.

I’m correcting you. By purchasing this companies product, like many others have, I have invested in the FUTURE DEVELOPMENT of said product. I already gave them my money, so until they give me something that I have not invested in, why should I give them more?

Are you kidding me? That’s not how anything has ever worked. What makes you think you’re entitled to years and years of continual content development because you paid $60 once? Anet needs revenue streams to keep iterating the game and keep making new content. If you enjoy the game, you should be happy to support it. kittening Pathetic.

Besides, you still get it for free if you log in. It’s no different than the current system other than if you missed it you can pay to get it instead of just not having access to it.

I’m going to be called a white knight but here goes.

In my experience, if you don’t like the food or service at a restaurant and after numerous complaints to the owners, nothing changes, you stop going there.

What you don’t do is set up across the street from them on a folding chair with a bullhorn telling the arriving customers that the service and food stink and would be so much better if the owners just listen to you. If the place is still in business and they still get an decent clientele of regulars, where is your proof that what the owners are doing is wrong? Seems to be working out for them. Parking lot is always full and people seem to be enjoying themselves as they leave after their meal, only to return again several times during the month or even week.

I know. You all wanted something different. Something closer to what you had with the first game. It’s been over a year and a half since it went live. It doesn’t look as if your comments and complaints are making any headway. So when do you give up and move on, or move back since Guild Wars is still running? When do you stop jousting windmills?

So accept what good you can find in the game now, and by some of the posts it seems very little, or look for something better. I never understood how people can stay in abusive relationships and I’m seeing some of the same signs here. We’ll give ArenaNet another chance to see if Living Story 2 is any better. Maybe it’ll be different this time.

Honestly I think there’s a calling for therapists who specialize in getting people to leave MMOs they no longer like but can’t leave for some reason.

I remember the days when each new campaign had utterly ruined GW1 to the point where no one played it any more. Balance across all game modes was completely, irreparably ruined by new classes and skills. All the new areas were horrible to navigate, had terrible mechanisms locking you out of parts to force you to grind through the whole storyline. New PvP modes were only ever farmed by bots because no real people would ever want to play them. And then to top it off the addition of heroes killed any hope that was left by turning GW1 into a single player game that was entirely for farmers.

Good times.

I agree, I’d like to see how Anet can completely ruin GW2 forever with an expansion. (I’ve heard Blizzard have managed to drive away every single player they had 4 times and are on track to do it a 5th time. I’m sure Anet could top them if they wanted to.)

On the other hand I’ve heard Season 2 is going to include some things players have wanted for a long time like more permanent content and a new zone (not confirmed but strongly implied) and I’m looking forward to how that will ruin the game forever too, it seems unlikely given that it’s exactly what players want but they’ve pulled it off before.

Note: the use of you is you in the plural sense and nobody specific.

Except I don’t see this “change” everyone is complaining about. Players are simply, finally, realizing that the gold to gem rate isn’t ever going to go down significantly due to overuse and ANet isn’t going to up the in game coin drop. They point out how to reduce the exchange rate buy converting bought gems into gold and everyone starts screaming as if this was some horrible conspiracy to turn the game into some F2P wannabe. It’s always been reliant on Gem sales but most of those upset by this sudden realization are finally facing the harsh truth. This isn’t the first Guild Wars. There aren’t going to be a string of reskins of the game every year under the guise of a “campaign”. That the longevity of the game is dependent on sales of gems, for cash. In Guild Wars if you wanted “purdy” skins you had to pay cold hard cash. Why is that so difficult to understand in Guild Wars 2? Why is that suddenly “ebil”?

Yes, yes, you all wanted expansions just like Guild Wars. But they denied considering or working on expansions since the game’s release. Even correcting NCSOFT’s own investor call statements. It’s not like they were hiding it.

And now, due to it’s overuse converting one way, the exchange rate is 3x higher than a year ago. And most of the crazy brain schemes to bend the game’s mechanics and reward system for “phat” loot have been thwarted for now, there is a dawning that there’s not enough hours in the day to earn gold for “free” cash shop items. It was never meant to be “free” indefinitely for everything. It was a way to supplement your cash for gems. What did you all think? Only stupid people bought gems with cash? Look up “tragedy of the commons”. That’s the Gem Exchange in a nutshell. So you all poor every last copper into gold to gem conversion every time something new pops up or return that you want. Then you complain you will never have enough gold to buy a precursor or weapon skin on the TP, all the while those players buying gems are converting them to the gold that you spent, that they then use to supplement their gold to buy those same precursors and skins on the TP.

Nope, you all steadfastly insist that everything offered in the game should be free with just game play. You all might as well order the tides back because it ain’t gonna happen. And it’s not because of China. The game has always been this, from day one. That fact that you all finally woke up to that fact is a sad statement how long people can play with blinders on.

We are heroes. This is what we do!

Personally, i think adding open world duels would bring a lot of people back into the game.

I think the possibility to make a duel with your mount and strangle it with your cape is the thing that will really bring a lot of people back. Normal duelling is lame

EVERY MMO is awesome until it is released then its unfinished. A month after release it just sucks.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.

Okay, so they should simply not have said anything at all then?

1: ArenaNet says nothing and people demand that they say something at least so that we know that they have not left the game.

2: ArenaNet says something and explains why they are not talking much at the moment.

3: People complain about them saying the wrong thing and we are back at #1 again.

Basically I wrote a simple ticket asking if they can reset the guild creation limit for me just this once- which shouldn’t be too hard to do.

The support staff of Arena Net have more important things to do than whip up a magic button to put you ahead of the millions of players who follow the rules and the 2-guilds-per-week limit.

Seriously; I’m stunned that someone would waste the time of support staff with a ridiculous request to let them break the rules and that they imagined that doing so would be “simple”.

Get over yourself. Wait a week to create a new guild like every other person in the game, don’t waste the resources of game support for “I’m special” requests and don’t whine about not getting your instant-gratification way.

Unlimited Gathering Tools - Worth it?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Danikat.8537

Danikat.8537

I bought all 3 when they cost 800 gems each and I think it’s worth it. (It might also be worth noting that I bought them with real money because £8.50 each was a lot more affordable to me than 100g.)

I don’t like the animations (in fact if I could I’d remove the animation from the molten pick all together) but I love the convenience.

My main character moves between maps pretty much at random. She might be in the same one for a week or she might be there for 5 minutes and then move on. So if I want to gather materials on her my options are either to carry one of each type of tool and keep checking which one I need and swapping them or using Mithril/Ori tools for everything, and even then I have to carry spares.

With infinite tools I don’t have to worry about any of that, I can gather whatever I want, wherever I am and as many times as I want. It’s a small thing but it’s really nice not having to worry about that. I notice it every time I switch back to another character and have to deal with finite tools again.

But that’s just my opinion, I know other people think they’re a complete waste of money and practically a scam that only idiots fall for.

Well, that’s it, people. After some three thousand hours spent playing GW2 since launch. After the sad Scarlet joke and the LS, the megaservers, the tragic and still painful death of a certain charr engineer with a fascination for apples… I’ve decided to keep on playing Guild Wars 2.

For the last three months, I’ve been really trying to get out of Dodge, binging on other games. I’ve played ESO extensively during the beta. Hell, for a moment I even considered Wildstar. You know, at some point, you’re ready to do anything, so don’t judge me.
But nope, nothing worked. So I’m gonna stay. I’m saying that without animosity or bitterness. Just gonna, you know, continue and have fun in this lovely little mmo.

So, I’ve considered posting this for a couple days now. I tend to lurk rather than posting. I realize this will likely fall on deaf ears, but after this weekend, I feel like it really needs to be said.

The attitude on the forums, and the response from the community over the past week (and even before that) is appalling. Every new thread is created to somehow belittle or bash the Anet dev team, or to negatively criticize every aspect of the game (whether part of the new update or not). And it isn’t just in General – it’s happening in PvP, in WvW, in the Profession forums, all of them. Is this criticism valid? Certainly – there are threads created for the exact purpose of collecting that information (and no, we don’t need to keep making 9 different threads on the same topic). But the tone of that criticism has reached an all-time low, and it’s turned the forum into a toxic mess. We’re no longer in the territory of constructive, positive discussion that a forum like this is here to encourage.

The general consensus of the community appears to be one where we expect the dev team to be chained to their desks 24/7, fixing every mistake and catering to every whim of any player who feels like our gameplay has somehow been diminished. I mean, just look around – you’ll find it in almost every new thread that’s been created this week. How does this kind of feedback – the whining, the complaining, the bashing, the lack of patience, the anger – actually help the game or promote any kind of meaningful discussion? Everyone seems to be shocked at the lack of responses from the dev team about issues – is it really any wonder why? If I were them, I wouldn’t respond to anything either, considering the community won’t be happy with whatever they have to say (or even if its what they want to hear).

Have there been problems this week? Certainly. Could things have been rolled out differently? Probably. But in no way does that excuse how this community has reacted. We dare say the Anet team can’t have a bloody holiday weekend to themselves? Of course they can! Who are you to say they don’t deserve one? (And there are threads where this exact statement is happening).

Lets use the Megaserver as an example. For those complaining about the megaservers, have you even considered that releasing this update this week, in this way, is intended? The Megaserver system is a BIG deal. And the devs have said repeatedly that its an ongoing system. I mean, the update isn’t even a week old! How do you expect the dev team to make any meaningful changes to the system to improve things, when they don’t even have enough data yet to determine what those changes should be? It’s called patience, and this community could use a huge dose of it.

Altogether, I know this thread isn’t going to deter the community’s reaction to the new content. I know it’s not going to correct anything. But I’m hoping that, if you support the dev team, their hard work, and their efforts to give us something great to play, you’ll post in here and let them know.

I love the new updates, and I know that I for one can’t wait to see what’s coming for us next

I’d like to know more about that griefing. Specifically:
– Did the ANET employee use any dev tools, or did he only do things a player could do ?
– What happened to the employee afterwards ?

He didn’t “grief” anyone. He told several players that they weren’t playing WvW the way they were supposed to be, then popped his company tag. No one was banned, no one was punished, and I find it funny how the fans here like to neglect that the two guilds in question were harrassing and telling the A.net employee to “gtfo” of their GvG before he popped his tag.

A lot of feathers got ruffled on both sides, some egos got bruised, but at the end of the day, nothing happened to anyone. It was much ado about nothing.
