Will tomorrow at noon your time be ok?

Standard POF $49.99 + Free GW2

New & Returning Players Get: (Non-HOT Purchasers)
*New Class
*Level Boost

Standard POF $49.99
Standard HOT $49.99
Standard GW2 $59.99
$159.97 5yr Investment. (Excluding deluxe & Gem purchase)

Veteran Players Get:
*Level Boost (By now some of may have 9 or more Characters at 80) Useless.

If you’re going to continue your complaining, at least get your facts straight. You might also look into how businesses work, and how value is determined in business-consumer relationships. Since I don’t expect you to, here’s the crash course as it applies to the situation under discussion.

  • 5 Years ago (you?) spent $59.99 to purchase access to GW2. For those 5 years (you?) had the opportunity to enjoy the game. (You?) also got — for no additional cost — access to LS1 and 2.
  • 2 years ago (you?) spent $49.99 to purchase access to HoT. For those 2 years you had the the opportunity to enjoy what HoT brought to the game. (You?) also got — for no additional cost — access to LS3.
  • Now, (you?) would be paying $29.99 (not $49.99) for standard PoF. (You?) will get the opportunity to play what PoF offers as long as you care to. Freebies: the level boost you don’t care about, plus the shared inventory slot it arrives in (which would cost $8.75 if bought separately).
  • The new player spends $29.99. He will get PoF, the same way (you?) will. Freebies: restrictions on free GW2 core removed; level boost (which you seem to presume has value for him); shared slot; and Revenant unlocked.

He does not get:

  1. Core Gw2 for free (just the removal of the restrictions)
  2. The 5 years of access (you?) got to core GW2, including any titles, achievements, drops, legendary weapon(s) produced, and anything else that adds value to a virtual game account.
  3. LS1 (it’s gone)
  4. LS 2 (he would have to pay an additional, not inconsequential fee to get this)
  5. Any of HoT except Revenant base profession. Were I to have to tell you how little a percentage of HoT Revenant base profession is, you would have no business talking about numbers.
  6. The two years access (you?) had to what came with HoT, along with any (see #2 for the add-ons)
  7. LS 3 (he would have to pay an additional, not inconsequential fee to get this)

Were he to purchase all of the above, he’d be spending a lot more than $29.99, and he cannot purchase retroactive access.

And now the good news. (You?) too can partake of the “enormous” deal that the new player gets with PoF while the Veteran gets so “little.” All (you?) have to do is buy PoF and link it to a new account. Not interested? Why not, if the value of having (your?) account all this time is not part of the equation?

Some of the features offered with PoF are the Elite Specs. Selling a product with profession features when one would have to buy a different product to get access to that feature for one of nine professions just seems like bad business. I’m glad ANet did not go that route.

On the other hand I’m not surprised that someone found a reason to kitten and moan about Veterans being hard done by. To be fair, though, the OP did make an effort to disguise the kittening and moaning. It was not a big enough effort, but what are you going to do?

why no duel?

in PvP

Posted by: Vayne.8563

Vayne.8563

You’re going to get the same responses since the game came out. The PvE players are frightened and literally shake at the thought of having someone send them a duel request.

Every major MMO that features dueling has an option to ignore duel requests so this is not an excuse.

Their other excuse is “I don’t want duels to clutter my precious Lions Arch!” but they’re the FIRST ONES to fill LA with dumb halloween costume fights.

There’s zero reason not to have dueling in the game. It’s a fun way for friends to test builds against each other while you wait to start a dungeon.

Stop taking the game so seriously Who cares if people duel near you.

This is a good example of what i mean with ‘some people don’t accept no for an answer’.

Instead of advocating your case by sticking to the pro’s of dueling and even come up with solutions that could contribute to it, you resort to kitten on the motives of people who are against it.

Imma go frightenedly sit in a corner now and shake for a bit while i await your reply

This is the very example of why I don’t want to see it in the game tbh. This need to insult, or atack personally someone with a different opinion

I was never scared of duel requests or dueling, though I thought they were a waste of time.

However in the past, the people who I knew who were into dueling, by and large, were people I had no interest in playing with. They don’t share my interests. They don’t build my community.

However many of those same people from my past are good at trolling and insulting. Now I’m not saying that people that what it in this game or this thread are like that. I am saying that it will have an affect on the direction of the community whether those who are pro believe it or not.

The more features you put in PvE that are competitive, the more likely more competitive people will spend time in PvE, and this game was designed with cooperative not competitive PvE

Every time a competitive element goes into PvE, like competing for things to pick up at certain dynamic events, the community has something to say about it.

This isn’t just some blind fear of someone asking me to duel. This is an active solution to keeping the game moving in the direction that most appeals to me, just as those pro dueling are trying to keep the game moving in the direction that appeals to them.

We all have that right.

But when you start taking personal pot shots at people, or say they’re scared, just because they disagree with you, you’re treading pretty close to breaking forum rules.

Has Anet Remembered the Casuals?

From my time on these forums I’ve determined that casual means the following:
- Completely flat map with uninteresting terrain that is easy to cross
- Speed across entire map in an instant, preferably by teleporting (somehow, having this ability is necessary alongside also having a flat map)
- Spend a few seconds only killing a mob by only pressing one button
- Overcome all challenges even in extremely inefficient gear and builds, without having to think about complexity
- Do not require other players for any event, not even group events
- No aggro from mobs, no skills from mobs, no danger from mobs
- No CC, no conditions, nothing that requires any kind of counter-play or quick thinking
- Everything as quick as possible, everyone is busy busy these days, can’t stop to actually play a game
- Always rewards, even for doing nothing at all
- Define fun as the embodiment of getting things for nothing, instead of immersion, challenge or time investment

More that I forget, but we all know what they are by now.

If we get a Bard I want a tamer for my ranger.

Two pets out at all times, spec focuses on making them kittenes and loosing the ability too switch between them. Id prefer a rifle as a weapon but pistols will do perfectly fine, call it “The Huntsmen” and its done.

No offence, but that does not sound very “Bard like” it sounds more like a Ranger with a Sidearm.

Casuals ruin games.

No, whiners ruin games.. no matter what their playstyle.

IRONY.

No really, pot meet kettle here.

No, see, unlike some people that puttered around for years crying about the game and how it needed to be harder to suite their playstyle, or fussed endlessly for raids, when the game was no longer to my liking… I left.

What is truly ironic, is that some people would say “if you don’t like it, leave!” and yet they remain and fuss incessantly that the game needs to be change, as opposed to you know, following their own advice and leaving.

and coming here making a thread asking about how this casual game somehow forgot casuals isn’t whining ?

Right….

Nope, it was, an honest question, I have been away, and I have a new computer, and was wondering if it was worth it to even bother to do the download. As far as this little stop in goes, either I will find the expansion fun, or I’ll move on again.

No loss on my part either way, and most assuredly, I am not asking for any changes to be made on my part.

Been a good year for me, I found a lot of fun other games, and games I am excited to try as well, but as I said, this expansion piqued my interest.. Nothing more, and nothing for you to get worked up about.

I’ll make it easy for you:

No it isn’t going to be worth it to you. If you struggled with HoT you are likely to struggle with PoF. Follow your own advice and move on.

Open World and Instanced reward Tracks

Heimskarl Ashfiend.9582

For those who are only reading the TL:DR I say this again, before commenting that PvE already get’s all of what I’m asking for actually read what my post is saying.

For those of us who only run raids and FotM when we log on we DO NOT go out and farm the season 3 maps. We do NOT get dungeon rewards. Yet WvW and PvPers do from just playing their game mode.

What I am suggesting is a track that allows us raiders and FotM runners to work towards the season materials the same way WvW and PvP players can. You people play one game mode and yet have access to the PvE rewards. I’m not asking for PvE players to receive PvP or WvW rewards at all. I’m asking for Fractal and Raid runners to be able to gain other PvE rewards in the same way by playing the game mode we want to.

If you read my post you will see what I’m actually talking about. PvP and WvW CAN go to the season three maps, grab the nodes, and return to their game mode and continue working towards more. HOWEVER we who only play FotM and Raids are unable to do that. Our game mode is just FotM and Raids. Most of us don’t like going into the competitive game modes. So we are locked into only grabbing the nodes in the season 3 maps. I don’t care about any other rewards from the tracks. Just an easier way to obtain those materials that the competitive players can obtain through both farming the nodes AND playing their own game mode.

If you want to say it’s just as easy for a FotM or Raider to get anything else in PvE then I say anyone from WvW and PvP has just as easy a time getting them. There shouldn’t be tracks for the seasonal maps that allow them easier access to those rewards. So stop trying to shut down something you apparently aren’t looking at from more than one angle.

I’ve got no issue with what you are asking for, as long as you remove most of the rest of the loot from completing fractals/raids etc. You’d then get the same amount of loot for time spent as in WvW or PvP.

Equality is what you are asking for, yes?

So for the last expansion people complained about the lack of maps and now people are complaining about too many maps?

This is what the forums is all about. Nerf power…power nerfed…nerf condi…condi nerf inc. No one on WvW maps…queue is too long now…and then will be empty again when PoF drops so get ready of no one on maps again. PvP – nerf rewards…rewards nerfed now to hard. WvW – we want rewards… rewards too hard. PvE – We want challenging content….everything is hard because it’s gated.

PoF hasn’t even dropped yet and already people have ideas how to fix something they haven’t played. It’s the nature of MMO gaming forums. A place where the player base has a better idea how to do things with no business sense or access to raw data.

However tyria and ESPECIALLY TOWNS, Mounts are (for some ppl) massively immersion breaking.

How is it breaking your immersion?

I don’t get how it is either. To me it is far more immersion breaking to imagine that Tyrian civilisation has existed for thousands of years and nobody thought of using animals for transport. Nah, the Charr have made tanks and there are airships and helecopters, the Asura came up with a frikken teleportation system but other than that, let’s just walk everywhere.

“So, Jaren, I have been thinking… what if we made, like, REALLY big rakes and tied them to one of those dolyaks over there?”

“What for?”

“They could pull them around the field and make our job easier! It would be like if there were, uh, three… no, FOUR of you, each with a rake. But instead of four Jarens with four rakes it would just be one dolyak and one rake. We could call it ploughing.”

“By Melandru’s sweet bosom, that’s the stupidest thing I ever heard. Next thing you’ll be suggesting that we hop on the smelly beasts and RIDE them. Good grief!”

“But that would make it faste-”

“Shut up, Vance. You’re drunk again, aren’t you? Get some shut-eye and don’t let me hear you babbling about any of this ploughing and animal riding nonsense again.”

Thus it came to be that the denizens of Tyria continued to plow their fields by hand and walk everywhere. You, dear reader, might think that the denizens of Tyria must be utterly stupid but they just really care about immersion. Bless their overworked hearts.

(This post is mostly directed at very old players.)

I’d like to remind people that 3-4 years ago, we were sitting here on these same forums talking about how we were in the worst storyline ever, completing random mediocre objectives all around Tyria while chasing around some crazy Sylvari we didn’t know who apparently had a plan but everything seemed random and unconnected and pretty much all the same complaints as now.

The storylines have issues, but you need to not look at the past through rose-tinted glasses; LS1 was widely regarded by the community as a very long, very convoluted and completely nonsensical storyline that many feel had to be utterly abandoned (by the awakening of Mordremoth) just to solve its multitude of problems.

The first few years of the game piggybacked on the hype of a few very well designed, and very well executed episodes like Battle for Lion’s Arch.

Say the name “Scarlet” to yourself, shudder a bit, then be more open going forward.

Why did ArenaNet abandon Elder Dragon bosses

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: starlinvf.1358

starlinvf.1358

I don’t mind the shift away from them, interesting as “Dragons as forces of nature” could have been. They were just used as generic bosses anyhow.

What annoys me is just how utterly random the newly introduced boss is. And how he shows up and all. It’s all so… yeah. Might as well be anyone else.

The whole LS3 was building up Lazrus as the antagonist, and everyone expected a plot twist at the end. But using one of the Human Gods introduces 2 new sub plots that couldn’t happen without direct references to them…. 1. It reinforces their vulnerability as Mist Walkers against the Dragons, and Balth’s motivations are one of shrouded desperation. 2. Theres now a 3rd contender in the scenario, and this is ramping up to change the war into a battle of Juggernauts. The heroes now have to juggle 3 problems…. the overt threat of Dragon minions, the fractured political state of Tyria, and now a second super natural force, with a total disregard for collateral damage.

If they had repeated the scenario of Nightfall, using the players as Agents to the God’s war, we would have the exact same plot line as LS3, but with way more contrivances to explain why anyone in Tyria would actually go along with the God’s plans. The raids and dungeons also house a lot of extended plot; and one constant reoccurring theme is mortals achieving godhood through massive infusions of magical energy.

But there is one major focal point of mythos that has to be addressed, yet has been largely hand waved up until this point….. the Mists itself. Despite never being mentioned directly in story, the Mist wars and multiverse theory is now an integral element to the Dragon wars ever since it was introduced via Omadd’s machine. The dragons powers are bound to the physical realm of Tyria; yet we know for a fact that Mist walkers easily traverse between these realms. Thats a massive plot hole if you ignore the Mist Wars, because it would otherwise be the most direct solution to the Elder dragons…. a place to evacuate to, and theoretically infinite resources to wage war against them. The only things preventing this is our inability to navigate its metaphysical design with any sort of reliability, and the constant threat of invading forces from the borderlands.

So no… Balth as an antagonist is not “random”. The inclusion of the Mist walkers were inevitable the moment the metaphysical nature of Tyria was brought into the main story. The fact that they’re addressing it now is mostly to prevent the story from getting too chaotic before they can tie some of these threads together. Its also why they knocked out 2 Elder dragons to buy the story time, ended Caudicus, and put Logan in charge of the Pact….. there are too many loose ends in the story right now to generate the plot focus they need for a better story experience.

This might not seem obvious to most…. but look back at High Fantasy movies mimicking the structure of Lord of the Rings. Or even compare Peter Jackson’s Hobbit to the older Animated versions. Lord of the Rings is 3 interwoven story threads (and I don’t mean story arcs), comprised of multiple plot threads, each on a different scale. The Hobbit is one story thread made from 3 repeating plot threads. The thing to take away from this is Tolkenesqe stories can easily balloon out of control if you don’t know how to keep the plot threads personal, but well connected. That was a big problem with GW2’s personal story…. events escalated rapidly, but the various plot threads were not tied together well. Its also what happened to the Hobbit movie, as elements were introduced and discarded abruptly; resulting in things being utterly confusing at best, and completely unresolved at worst. Heart of Thorns tried to reset the board by nullifying the Pact….. but Mordremoth wasn’t a compelling villain for a more narrowed story focus, as him putting too much focus on the heroes would be utterly overbearing. Its basically the Mount Doom ark of LotR once you realize HOT Map Metas and the HOT personal story are actually divergent. Its also why the story thread told from the perspective of the map meta is much stronger, because salvaging a shattered army and bringing it to bear against the heart of the enemy for a rematch, is exactly the type of underdog story most people find compelling.

With the way they’re trying to steer events, the expansion is clearly trying to shoot for a more focused approach to story telling, and sort out the problems of who is in main roles and who are in supporting roles. The pact is clearly going to be shifted into a Supporting role, and the heroes are clearly going to spending the majority of the expansion truth seeking. Its hard to say who well be the main antagonist (with so many on the table at the moment), but I wouldn’t be surprised if the first or third act involves Kraktorik fighting something other then the Heroes/Pact forces.

Next xpac is called PoF ?!

On The Personality of GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Arnox.5128

Arnox.5128

I was thinking about this as I was replying to the Mounts thread and now I’d really like to ride this train of thought out.

At first, GW2 seems like yet another medieval fantasy setting. Yet another Tolkien-ripoff universe. But anyone who plays this game for longer than 10 mins will know it’s really not that simple or easy to write off. As I’ve played this game and watched videos and seen and replied to and made threads about GW2, I’ve been unknowingly figuring out just what it is about GW2’s world that makes it the way it is instead of Medieval Fantasy World #437.

I think the best way to describe it would be a mutation. Specifically of Tolkien’s work. But not just any mutation. Now, GW2 is not the only game to do a different kind of medieval fantasy world. Not even close. However, GW2 does more than mutate the standard medieval fantasy fare. It does it stylishly. Attractively. It is a warped version of the sword and sorcery that we know. The elves have become Sylvari. Gnomes are Asura. Wizards have become Elementalists. And that’s where it gets you. It takes Tolkien’s universe and makes it wholly its own, but it in a respectful and very well-written and thought out way.

GW2 does not stop being different at just the lore level though. No, it’s also different in it’s gameplay mechanics. It’s mutating and evolving these things we’ve come to expect in western RPGs into something else.

There are no mounts. There is now waypoints and gliding. Combat is not a standing affair. It is now a dynamic and active affair with dodging mechanics for every class. Resource nodes are no longer a resource to compete for. Everyone can work them. Loot is no longer given to one sole person. It is given to anyone who participated in the kill. Boss rewards are not exclusive to one person. They are given to all who were part of dealing damage to it. Quests have been changed into events, hearts, vistas, and etc. There are no longer two arbitrary factions of players fighting each other in the overworld. It has been taken and mutated into World vs. World. Three separate servers worth of players sieging and fighting against each other endlessly on massive battlegrounds. You do not pay a monthly sub and nor is the game Pay2Win. You pay a flat price and play whenever you like, however you like.

When you first play the game, you feel like you’re stepping into a world you know, but you’re really coming into an alien one disguised as such. This can be a large problem as players will try to do things as they normally do and become frustrated at the supposed dullness as they keep pursuing heart quests and nothing else, believing that is the only way to gain XP. Perhaps they’re frustrated with the new combat mechanics. Maybe both.

But that’s the thing. Even its very community, it mutates. Everyone who sticks with the game, despite it’s alien feel, is changed. Where former MMOs fostered a community of distrust and competition, GW2 encourages its players to work together and changes them in the process. In almost every way, GW2 takes the standard, the tried and true, and mutates and turns it into it’s own thing. And it makes it incredibly attractive while doing so. And that is the core, the heart, of GW2 and even most of GW.

Whew. That’s all I have to say now. Let me know what you guys think about this.

ArenaNet, please give us more skills!

[suggestions] minor npc-events

modus sceleris: Would it be possible to get another encounter? The combat is challenging and the events are really nice. I like them a lot. Maybe one in central tyria and one randomly in the LS3 maps. Orma is fantastic, but I’d love to see what happens if you are not able to outscale her power with gear and level XD.

NPC guilds: Central tyria has a few of them. Some do certain events and have specific lore, others are just well hidden, waiting for a curious player to find them (e.g. Soot warband). The new LS3 maps have good potential and possibilities to add subgroups of the major factions without stirring the lore/story. The maps are great as they are.

mercy trigger: This one might be horrible to code and implement, but I would love to see it in the game one day. Could you please add a humanoid boss, champion/legendary with a downed state. If the players allow the npc to recover from the downed state it turns green, no rewards but could do one of the following stuffs:
- trigger another event with a secret boss
- assist players during the map meta, ressurrecting downed people (like the npcs in the story missions)
- unlock a vendor
… etc.

lure trigger: Also horible to create. I am a huge fan of the Angvar’s Trove Guildpuzzle. The final event with the dragon. Could we get some switches which require you to lure a certain mob to it and wait for using a certain skill? Or kill/stun it while standing on a switch in order to open a door?

appearance trigger: Thanks to your efforts we can transform into nearly all creatures/npcs. I recently revisited the Song of Final Exile and used my kodan transformation. Sadly no special dialogue :S.

These are just a few ideas. I do not complain. The game is awesome in its current state. You do a great job.

dulfy-effect: Knowledge is power. But without fame, you are just a freak.

Anyone who is testing a build on a ‘crap mob a level 1 would be able to sneeze down’ and it’s taking long enough to kill that random players passing by can join in, well there’s your answer on that build. Time to go back to the drawing board.

As a self-professed animal lover, you have to understand that cats are intelligent creatures. They’re curious about the world around them, and their own bodies. Kittens (and many other kinds of life on earth) tend to discover these kinds of things through play with their peers.

Get a couple of kittens of your own – you’ll notice they do the same thing!

TL;DL: They aren’t fighting for bloodsport. They’re fighting for fun, exercise and hunting training.

This is a game. We don’t need to understand how real cats do things or get some for ourselves.

With the new expansion, will Anet avoid HoT?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Just a flesh wound.3589

However, personal likes and dislikes aside, what is not up to debate is how devastating HoT has been to player base in all three aspects of the game: PvE, PvP and WvW.

On the contrary, people are debating that very point.

this is very true but yet their are some setting back and just watching it all and waiting to see how it all rolls out this time around . before making any jumpy moves at all . compared to last time around.

the very fact of all that fake hype and hot itself put together. well seeing some trying to become hype trains right now sure is not a good kitten idea at all to have happen .giving how hot came down and all that giving the facts there is no details as of yet from the company at all . i think it can be well said a lot of us this time are taking the next pack a whole lot more differently .than the first time around . hype=death

So last time there was “fake hype” which was bad (as opposed to true hype? Is there such a thing as fake hype? I thought hype was hype, neither true nor false but simply the excitement generated by an upcoming thing) and now there’s no hype, which is also bad.

Just out of curiosity, how much “not fake” hype should ANet promote that’s neither too much nor too little?

And how “fake” was the HoT hype? We knew it was content light. We knew the number of maps and their footprints in the map. We knew the price being asked. We knew it was supposed to be harder than vanilla Tyria. What part was fake?

Be careful what you ask for

By the way I know “filthy casual” is the standard term in some MMOs and most people don’t actually mean it as an insult, but it’s probably better to avoid it here.

GW2 is, by design, a very casual friendly game and a lot of people classify themselves as casual players. It’s not seen as a negative by the community (with rare exceptions of course) or something to be embarrassed about.

Arguably, if you’re joining a squad, you’re no longer invisible — you’re clearly participating in group content at that point. The option to decline invites isn’t related to privacy.

I’m not against either feature, however, there are privacy features I’d prefer to see first:

  • Being able to login invisible, as an option in the sign in window.
  • Hiding your presence from the guild if invisible: you can’t use or read /guild chat, but you can be seen.
  • Hiding your location on friends lists and especially to people on your block list — you location should be “offline” in invisible mode, otherwise you’re not really invisible.
  • Hiding your status from people on your /block list.
  • Making your status available only to mutual friends.
  • Changing your /away to status automatically to /online if you are active; changing it automatically to away if you haven’t used skills recently.

GW2 will win it every single year.
I’ve played a lot of mulitplayer game and MMOs, but with all honesty i never met such friendly/helping community like GW2’s.
Despite the many mistakes I’ve done while in dungeon/fractals i was never attacked or yelled at. on the contrary .. people sometimes even mailed me items that’ll help me through the challenge i’m going to face. people share for the sake of sharing, I’ve met many times random people just coming by and asking if i need help with something ^^
Sure, every game will have its share of Trolls and Toxic players but so far in gw2 i didn’t see much of that.

Truly i have never met such nice/positive/helpful people in any other MMO, Game or Real life (in some cases)
You guys are all awesome!

The “active underwater GvG community”? Were both of you very annoyed?

New Player, Sad Player. Expansion ruined it.

Its not reasonable to expect people who are paying to have fun to spend their “play” time not having fun. Customers telling you that they do not like aspects of your product is kind of important if you want to continue to sell to them in the future.

You seem to assume all the players have the same tastes and want the same things. This obviously isn’t the case. And frankly, you don’t even need to read threads like this to know this is an unreasonable assumption. You just need to have had contacts with people.

I’m just curious: how did you read the post you quoted and get “you seem to assume all the players have the same tastes and want the same things”?

Read my next comment, it has it explained.

I guess you must be responding to me, though you don’t quote my post. But no, I’m not going to read a different post to understand this post. I want to know how you go to your conclusion from the post you actually quoted.

Sorry, not going to explain the same thing over and over again because someone can’t be bothered to read a discussion.
