Dev Blog: Changes to Traits

/disagree

This will not make any noticeable difference for new players, considering that effectiveness for new players is largely hindered by their lack of proper gearing rather than traiting.

Do you honestly think missing out on +10 points in one trait line is going to outweigh a lvl 30 war running around in lvl 20 clerics gear?

These changes are great and exactly what people wanted when they asked for horizontal progression.

ANet's silence is why so many people leave.

Anets’ biggest mistake it seems was creating these forums in the first place. Those people enjoying the game will probably never bother posting here, so all that’s left is a lot of noise from people who think the devs should cater solely to the conspiracy nuts, gankheads and the so-called “hardcore”.

invisible mode

Rillasi.1852

(This seems like the best place to put this thread, considering the broken aspect of this feature.)

There are some serious flaws in the implementation of the “invisible” mode. These flaws have been pointed out in the forums before a few times, mainly in the archived suggestions forum, but they have yet to be addressed.

First off, your online status is broadcast to everyone who has you on their list the moment you hit “Log-in” on the splash screen. This is a huge mistake, essentially defeating the purpose of having the “invisible” option at all. By the time the option is available, it’s too late. Guild Wars 1 had the option to log in as offline, and this game needs that same feature for the exact same reasons it was introduced in the first game.

And then there is the constant location update. Anyone watching their friends list or guild tab can see your location change even if they didn’t see you log in and go invisible. Instant drama. Basically, if you are going to be invisible, people should not be able to see your current/last-known location.

I would also argue that for this same reason the guild tab should not show changes in representation status when appearing offline. If you rep another or no guild in order to avoid being spotted by your orange name in-game, other guildmates can see this. Again, this destroys the purpose of going “invisible.”

So in order for the “invisible” mode to actually serve its purpose, some serious modifications need to be made. Essentially my suggestions are 1) allow the user to log in as offline and 2) don’t update locations or rep status unless the user status is online. It would spare people a lot of drama and a lot of headaches.

It’s not that I don’t enjoy spending time with my friends – I love sharing this game with them. I’d just like to be able to play alone once in a while too, without having to explain to every single person on my friends list what I’m doing. No, I’m not sad; no, I don’t want to talk about something; no, please don’t join me; no, you didn’t do anything; no, I’m not upset; OK, now I’m getting upset; and by the Six just let me farm scales in peace!

Seriously, this needs a fix.

I do not know how good I am wording this kind of thing but I must try. My life has not been a easy one and one of the things I could fill my time with has been video games, and until Guild Wars 2 I have not liked video games nor have they made much sense to me. Others I have tried always made me nervous or uncomfortable during and after, I don’t get any of that with Guild Wars 2. For giving me something of such form and function I can enjoy and relax doing even when so much else in my life is neither of those I thank you, from someone who cares and understands what you do takes capability and love I thank you.

P.S. To those that run and make Guild Wars 2 and those that feel like I do feel free to look me up anytime, I am always down from something pve or spvp or wvw or conversation again thank you.

Anet responds to people, does things that are asked, and helps people in need. I think what you meant to say is “I didn’t understand a situation, had an amazingly bad idea about the situation I didn’t understand, ranted about it and Anet didn’t acknowledge me.”

tl;dr: buff all players, nerf all monsters, make gemstore free!

So that everyone can get their legendaries by the end of the week, and then ANet can safely shutdown the game because it went bankrupt. Sips his 10-dollar coffee while refusing to buy a skin for his alt.

No, seriously… There are several good ideas (which already have been discussed on the forums hundred of times, some with separate CDI threads), but mostly it’s the “I want the game even more casual and I don’t care if ANet employees starve to death” thread. QoL issues aside, many lifted restrictions will ruin the in-game economy and put the pay2lookspecial system at risk.

Again this QQ tread….man look at first page and you will see already treads where people like you cry around. There is no need to open 1000 of this.Colin already answer’d what all of you wanted to hear in 1 topic below and there is no point to whine about this anymore.Truth is that they will never give up from Living Story and i support this cause i like living story. That is only thing that make this game different then others and most of community likes it.He also said that they will focus much more now on permanent content from now on and in second half of this year we will see BIG permanent content patchs that all of you want to see.Now stop with this already,if u dont like in what state is game atm then go play something else and come back when patch is released. What u do now is nothing good. You make pressure of Anet to hurry up with patch but if they do then game will have lots of bugs and more stuff for u ragers to whine about.

The problem is that casuals will rarely PUG, if ever. The elitist zerker crowd has effectively scared off all of the casuals. Cool, awesome for the zerker speed runners I guess, but in the end, 5-man content will take a back-seat to everything else because the majority of players, who are 100% casual, will not do that content. I mean think about a casual player who might be unguilded. Some new 5man dungeon comes out. They check LFG, join a group: a) if they aren’t 80 they will be kicked and b) if they aren’t wearing zerker, they will be kicked. Now this doesn’t just apply to the unguilded, but also to small-medium guilds that don’t have regular dungeon runs. That is a large % of the player base.

Like someone else said, Anet will focus updates and create content for things the majority of players want to do. Namely large scale zerg content that you can jump in, get a bunch of loot and EXP, and then move on.

For starters non-80s can participate with impunity. Have you tried joining a group for a dungeon, even AC which is a level 30-35 dungeon, when you aren’t 80? You’re pretty much kicked out of the group immediately.

In zerg content, nobody cares what everyone is wearing or what level they are because there are so many people = everyone happy.

I won’t stop because I can’t stop.

It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….

First of all, sincere bravo on the Living Story, the conclusion to it was suitably epic and has a lot of people buzzing about how the next season’s events will turn out. You brought back in people like me, one’s that had taken a break from the game for one reason or another and that is something to be proud of.

That aside, mob tagging in large groups is still absolutely abysmal. It leads to problems with the community, lack of diversity of specs and a real sense that the effort you put in on a fight has zero bearing on whether you will receive loot from mobs.

Point 1: Problems with the Community

Quite frankly, people are feeling cheated, specifically in this event with the Legendary Watchknights, but it has been other things in the past. People are finding it necessary to join a group to get rewarded for killing the Watchknights, which is fine to drive people to group. What’s not ok is when people group to try and get that extra credit on the mobs and still not getting loot credit. That’s how you know the threshold is too high. This draws me away from enjoying the game to wondering who isn’t pulling their weight in the group? Is it someone else? Is it me not pulling my weight? Should we kick the level 55 in our group because he may not get in enough damage to tag these Watchknights? It sincerely detracts from the game and can lead to anger and finger pointing when this happens.

Point 2: Lack of Spec Diversity

The need to do max damage to tag a mob has driven the Berserker gear, max DPS mindset you see in the community. I honestly would love to try a support spec of some nature, or maybe even a tanky spec, but I cannot under the threat of never receiving loot credit due to not doing enough damage to the mob.

Point 3: Effort has Zero Bearing on Mob Loot

Damage does, pure and simple. Imagine the new to 80 guy still rocking rares and happily entering LA to do this event for the first time. He’s watching mob queues, dodge attacks, resurrecting allies, and cleansing conditions. When the mob finally dies he feels like he contributed to the fight in a great bit, but alas you tell him: “Nope, sorry chum, you didn’t stick on the mob for the entire duration and decided to help your allies, that’s a mistake. I guess there’s always next time for loot, try to do more damage next time.”

I remember trying to get my WvW season I achievement by beating on doors. Man, I must have smashed every cooldown I had smacking the crap out of those doors, but alas, when the door fell, no progress was added to my bar. This is the worst feeling in game, to do something and have it count for nothing.

It’s time for a change. This mechanic is hurting the game. Please hear my impassioned plea and do something about this clunky system. Lower the threshold, make other non-damage related parts of combat count for mob tagging. I implore you.

Thank you.

Lineage is by far NCsoft’s biggest earner, followed by Guild Wars 2, Aion, and Blade & Soul. The company said that WildStar is on track to launch in mid-2014 and that the key GW2 focus is not on an expansion but with bringing the game to China.

I hope I’m somehow wrong or this source is unreliable, but it’s looking really grim right about now. I guess we shouldn’t be surprised…

Fits with what many people say. The way Anet (or Ncsoft) is doing stuff now is great to squeeze out money in the short run but bad for the long run.

The rise in price will be because of people buying gems. This because they don’t want to miss temporary available items or don’t want to grind and so on.

However, at some point people will lose interest in it or get burned out by doing all the temporary stuff.. once they missed an item there is no need for a full collection anymore and buying items will also take away the fun of the game.

So then the gem sales will start to go down and people will start to leave.

Now imagine if they focused on expansions and so already had released a real expansions by now. Then they would have had a again some big sale numbers (maybe little less then the gem-sales, maybe not) but the game had to be less grindy to get people to buy gems, there would be no need for temporary stuff to get people to buy stuff, content would be of higher quality and so expansions in the future would likely also have high sales.

It will be really interesting what GW2 will do with the March patch and what the other MMO’s will do. GW2 did not really have any big other MMO to battle against but now a few big names will be released still I think EQN will be the biggest competitor for GW2 and thats still a year out.

I have to ask because I’m curious and don’t know when to shut up. Do you actually still play this game, and if so, why? Also, do you actually buy gems from the gem shop, and if so, why?

When I started reading this topic, my very first thought was that it was just a matter of time before you posted the same thing you post in every topic that might possible be even remotely linked to the cash shop. Thank you for not disappointing me.

I think anyone that reads the boards even semi-regularly understands your disdain for the cash shop and your overwhelming preference for expansions. We get it. We really do.

Having said that, kudos to NCSoft for making money and keeping me entertained. To celebrate, I might just have to go and buy… you guessed it… GEMS!

I see alot of people saying it will do no good to limit how much people can write in their suggestions, both because sometimes you need more room to explain something, and because some people will simply just make several posts at once, as we saw in the horizontal CDI.

Couldn’t it be a solution, if we decided on a specific form for the suggestions. Like a template.
It could be something like this:

Headline
Short description of the suggestion.
Short example if needed.
Link to external thread for more indepth explanation and/or discussion of the suggestion.

This way, everyone can catch the attention of the others without making the CDI thread a massive wall of text page after page.
I think this will also make it more likely that the more “casual” forum readers might join in on the CDI, if they don’t have to read through 50+ pages to check if their idea has already been suggested.

In short: Keep the CDI posts short (like a teaser) and put the specific discussions in other threads.

One of the draws to GW2 to for me is the fact that so much can be done in the open world. If this game heads down a path of Instanced World Bosses and Elite levels of loot only accessible in that instance….well I already have other games I can enjoy that way. I like that GW2 is different in that regard.

The problem is, you don’t want closure, but I do. I want to see where the story goes and how it ends. Some people are like you and some people are like me.

The difference between us is that you can choose not to do the content and not see the end of the story. If they stop with the story, however, I can’t see the end of the story.

You’re right in saying that Guild Wars 2 seems to have no real direction. That’s what happens when you have 300 people developing.

No, that’s what happens when those in charge lack direction and/or leadership.

So this line that I wrote doesn’t matter?

“Guild Wars 2 probably needs someone with vision, a central director actually directing. I’m not feeling it has that.”

You’re so intent on contradicting me that even when I say what you’re saying, you still contradict me. lol

I seem to be the only one on this forum that knows how a story works. I’m so excited that this game actually has one that lasts, rather than being released all at once and then having nothing for two years.

I LOVE the living story. I pity the poor person who had to change their vision for the living story because of impatience on the part of the players. Releasing a little bit of story every two weeks is an amazing idea, and it seems that people here can’t connect the dots enough to realize that these story pieces aren’t random – they’re all part of a larger whole.

What I’m getting is that not only do most people not understand that the conclusion of the story is forthcoming, but that they want all their story at once, and then they want to repeat it over and over and over for a year until more story comes out. Then they can repeat that over and over.

I am legitimately confused. Why does this have to be all instant gratification? Why can’t we all just relax and let the story come as it does?

speak for yourself, I’m quite excited. The wurm seems to be a new of a kind If I understood this the right way it’s a meta-boss which uses a whole map, so he isn’t static anymore. Not sure if this is true or if it’s just the language barrier that hit me, but in case it is this would be a huge step in making meta event bosses more dynamic.

It’s also stated that the wurm is only a “byproduct” of these mystical probes. It’s only the first part of four of the finale.
