So, if this quartz node is something we get through the home instance, does this mean that ANet will be working more with the home instance in the future? Maybe is this the first step towards player housing or a similar feature?

I have my fingers crossed in hopes that it may be. =P

Used to mine all metals. Unlimited use.

If it would only work as high as Orichcalcum they would have said “Used to mine Orichalcum and lower” or something like that.

But quartz isn’t a metal

I’m stoked. Don’t care if dailies count or not to be honest, as if they did it would help out the folks who aren’t willing or capable to spend the time doing some of the harder stuff and earn their achievements, although the folks who are hardcore AP grabbers would still inevitably be higher anyways.

I kinda hope that it’s gonna be set up like the Hall of Monuments, where having X achievement points (or more) allows you to unlock and get a skin for whatever items free, as opposed to using the AP to actually “buy” things.

Necro - WvW roaming - Video

in Necromancer

Posted by: Rennoko.5731

Rennoko.5731

Since the patch I have had quite a bit of fun in WvW, and thought I would put together a video of some of that.

Currently I am running a 30/20/10/10/0 build in full rabid gear.

UPDATE:

Newest video

Special thanks to my roaming buddy (Vezin) who is in most of the video. He tanks for me, and keeps me up and running.

Older: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-PVnU36RPc

For the build/traits:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fQAQNArYWjMat7pbeb8bKEpCPzUhvB6xugLgYkijJYA-j0xAINBRqCAhIi5wioxWfLiGr6GTHTEVLFAEzBA-w

A little explanation on the build:

Spite Tree (30 points): Burning as it stands right now is great single target, and I make liberal use of epidemic, so having tried multipe builds since the patch, it seems just foolish not to take this. Also 30% longer conditions is nothing to sneeze at. The master and adept level traits I picked in this tree are fairly standard, as there are not amazing traits really in those slots for a condition user.

Curses (20): This I struggled with this for a while, as dropping 10 points from this tree is reducing my overall condition damage by 100. However, with the extra 30 points in spite, I no longer feel like I really need lingering curses in WvW. The 25 point minor is also basically useless for me in full rabid. Terror is a lock for condition builds, and with the buff to weakness, and our close quarters combat, I feel weakening shroud is very powerful, and worth taking.

Death Magic (10): No choice here. Thanks greater marks.

Blood Magic (10): Here is where I make up for my lost survivability from losing points in Soul Reaping. The minor and mark of evasion give me great uptime on regen without forcing me into staff before I want to go into staff. It makes a massive difference, and synergizes very well with weakening shroud, works in plauge form. The extra bleeds are of course welcome as well.

This trait setup can also be easily swapped around for zerg vs. zerg, which is another reason I like it. I may do another video about that some other time.

I use the cheaper crystals, because I am cheap, and rare veggie, because it is the only food a condition user should ever consider.

A little note about why I use nightmare instead of undead. Taking nightmare runes lowers your condition damage by about 90 or so from full undead, lowers your toughness a little, but raises your condition duration 10%, and gives you a mini-doom when someone attacks you.

The proc rate is not amazing, but you do notice it, and it does help on occasion. The real reason why you want nightmare though is to break the 74% fear threshold, while maximizing condition damage. Any other option to get above 74% is going to lower your overal damage (giver’s weapons for instance).

At 80% duration from food and runes, the sigil of paralyzation lets you get 3 doom ticks at close range, and 2 fear ticks at long range. The guarantee of these extra ticks is huge, especially if your fear procs on a clean condition player. Using this sigil, it allows your 80% duration to all, to break 100% duration on fear also.

Earth for sceptor is also a lock for me, because it can proc often (once every 2 seconds), and will proc off some utilities too. I also lean very heavy on my sceptor.

As far as utilities, epidemic and BIP are the two damage utilities that allow me to take on large groups, but also reduce any chance of boon removal or survival. That is why the new spectral wall works great in bridging that gap.

I mentioned it in other posts, but for roaming, the most important thing is you team comp and knowing when to run. The last patch made necro so powerful, running isn’t so much of an issue unless a huge force is around, but its still important to not overcommit. I also roam with a friend on mumble who runs a res-pet utility on ranger, because I get focused quite a bit when we duo and trio roam. We lack any kind of practical stomping, as you may have noticed, but we get by. His conditions also get amplifeid by my condition damage with epidemic.

Best of luck on roaming, it is doable on necro and quite fun if you get the hang of it.

It’s not like you get 24 silver every chest right ?
And its not like you get a rare form every 2nd dead enemy that you loot, PLUS these chests, that arent there to be farmed, you get them while doing WvW, you dont have to do anything special to get them, like the dragons where you have to spam 1 alot…

A-Net doesnt want you to farm WXP just to get these chests, they want you to play WvW and reward you for helping your server….

some people will never stop complaining seriously…

Did WvW recreate the Trinity?

AydenStar.4216

I do not believe the trinity is in GW2 at least not in the traditional sense. I think GW2 got it right with Support, Damage and Utility categories. Even with those categories defined, most builds fall into multiple categories.

I think Anet got it right with the support, damage and utility but they gave Guardians easy access to a blast finisher with Hammer 2 and Light/Fire fields and condition removal with shouts. Warriors have easy access to blast finisher in Warhorn 5, Banner rez, and condition removal with shouts. Elementalist have easy access to most fields via staff, and Necromancers easy DPS/CC with staff and Dark fields from wells. Mesmer’s on the other hand just support the zerg with portal and veil.

Thieves, Engineer and Rangers are stick in situational limbo. The 5 professions mentioned above can pretty much fill 2 of these roles with one build; where as, the 3 medium profession don’t even come close.

Take the bunker guardian, both a healer and a tank. The bunker ele, can fall into all three categories. What about mesmers who are primarily focused around zerg support, they don’t heal or really tank… maybe DPS but that isn’t their primary focus. There simply are few if any pure trinity classes in GW2.

When will ANET add them? next year?
I have a lot of Laurels and guild commendations and nothing to buy….

They will likely add Ascended weapons and armors as a reward for the GW2 raids mentioned in another topic at the front page of this subforum. Your laurels and guild commendations will likely be useless to get them.

I don’t think they will make them exclusive to their version of raiding.

If they did, the uproar and mass exodus would be huge.

Monocles and Infinite Aetherized Tonic Recipe

chronometria.3708

I thought it worth commenting from an actual purchasers point of view, as these interesting items, the monocles that is, are not all created equal.

I bought one to use for myself for my light armour character. A lot of light armour is quite ornate, to the point of being fancy clothing and not armour. There is a real lack of decent headware for light armour users and most just turn it off, as we don’t like running around wearing what seem to be carnival masks.

I noted that the medium armour monocle was half the price of the others. There are a few reasons for this. Firstly, medium armour tends to be leather and doesn’t look right with a monocle. In addition and more importantly, medium armour users have always had access to goggles and even an actual one eye goggle item, which is basically a monocle. I noted later that the price on the medium ones had doubled to match the others….and that is a mistake as those are much less likely to sell.

So if you are seeking an investment – buy the light ones and avoid the medium ones.

Last boss is flat out to long, and boring

in Sky Pirates of Tyria

Yoke.4671

This is not a QQ about difficulty, I do the dungeon a several times an evening and we never have a bother with it, from the moment you walk in till the last boss its fun and rather fast/easy. This is a complaint about the daftly dull/bland last boss.

Its not hard its just boring. 15mins for one fight where its the exact same mechanics is such a lazy design, neither of the bosses change tactics or gain new mechanics, the 1st minute and the last minute of the fight are literally the exact same.
The only thing that changes is the cannon phases get longer not even harder, and my god the 100seconds 3rd cannon phase lol, what the hell is that, we get it he has cannons, it drags on for so long I nearly feel like logging off the game :P

Molten facility was a great dungeon and I was hoping for more of it, Up till the last boss id say this is on par. Why couldn’t we have gotten 3 bosses, another boss with lasers or more trash with laser parts and shorten the last boss by 10mins. It kinda reeks of ‘oh crap’ we ran outa time/funds we had set aside for this dungeon and its a bit short and easy, I know lets copy-paste the last boss for an extra 10mins.

Very big missed opportunity, When MF vanished after two weeks I missed it greatly, I wont miss this is dungeon in the least, its not that it is bad its a new fresh and fun dungeon, but that last boss is one of the most boring/pointless fights Ive played in an mmo.

Roaming: done to death

in WvW

Posted by: Kadj.6725

Kadj.6725

I roam. I get more kills roaming than in a zerg. I’ve protected more towers than a zerg via announcing enemy movements. I’ve wasted enemy supply with supply traps, forcing enemies to scratch their heads over why their ram isn’t getting built, and thus stalling while they run back to the camp. I’ve thinned the numbers of the enemy by sniping stragglers.

When a big fight happens, I join the zerg briefly, sometimes organize quick portal strikes to knock down siege and sometimes facilitate movement from the lines to supply camps… but then I go back to roaming and scouting, because big fights are when small groups can do the most damage to unprotected towers.

Ignoring the people skilled enough to flip camps solo and flipping sentries, roamers are very important to the points per tick – if the commanders are using them right. There’s nothing that can be done if a commander looks at someone in /team saying “20 enemies at durios” and dismisses it because LOL STONEMIST, but a smart commander will use announcements from a couple roamers/scouts to not only perform a good defense, but also create the illusion that they are not outmanned when they really are.

Winning is not always about direct contribution. Besides, a zerg will probably get the same points per tick whether I’m contributing or not. After a certain point, additional players added to a zerg’s size is a negligible increase in damage and options.

GoddessOfTheWinds.2937

It’s not “hard”, it’s “challenging”! Once you grasp the concept, you can do it without dying. Though some players would die on lasers or last boss’s cannons (mostly), we never failed or wiped.

I did it 2 times with my guildies and it is so fun! I love this dungeon and would welcome it in any form of permanent content (fractal or new permanent dungeon).

Shiren.9532

I enjoy hard and challenging content, but I also like item acquisition and aesthetic character progression to be a part of my gameplay experience. When long and difficult dungeons that have high chances or failure don’t have appropriate rewards to compensate (I’m not talking about RNG rolls, actual solid rewards you know you will get after a reasonable amount of effort, like dungeon tokens and their sets) then the increase in difficulty becomes very annoying and the failure rate and challenge becomes discouraging.

It becomes hard to balance how much you enjoy content when it begins to compete with item acquisition and aesthetic progression. Most item acquisition boils down to gold, which is universally acquirable in GW2. This means the most efficient methods of acquiring gold become the primary way to play the game for people who highly value item acquisition and aesthetic progression, and challenging and difficult content quickly falls behind in the value of completing it. This is why the Arah dungeon set is much more valuable than the CoF dungeon set.

I’d be happier to see more challenging content if it was being rewarded properly, to do this they need to create rewards which don’t compete with the gold efficiency of common farms.

Just wanted to express my gratitude for this new direction towards living story content that is actually HARD.

I just finished the new dungeon today, ran it with pug groups and it took like 10-15 tries across 3-4 groups. Funny thing is, I’m enjoying failing in this dungeon more then i enjoy completing most other dungeons. Why? Because every failure makes me learn something new about my class, my tactics or the mechanics of the game. It brings in a form of progression i guess, a good kind of progression, a progression of skill. If i could steamroll this (like most other content) it just feels like a hollow waste of time.

Bottomline: if it aint hard, there’s no incentive to improve and no reason to. And that is what makes things boring.

Btw, here’s a couple of tips for other Mesmers running AR:

- Golem boss beams and walls can be passed through with blink, portal and shatter invuln. You can also be the teams savior by ressing people through the beam since you can invuln yourself during the res cast. Or portal the team to the same side of the wall so the golems wont run back and forth (portal entre, blink, portal exeunt).

- You can block the final boss teleport shot by dodging directly away from her if you have the clone on dodge trait. This way she’ll waste her big attack on the clone.

Refusing to retrait/swap weapons/use different armour for a dungeon is like saying “I need to get from Los Angeles to London, but I refuse to buy a plane ticket. Why won’t you let me use my horse to get there?”

You were given 5 trait lines and 70 points to spend anywhere you like for a reason. You were given at least half a dozen weapons which you can swap around before going into the fight for a reason. You can swap out your skills anytime before engaging in combat for a reason.

If you are dying over and over again and the team wipes trying to res you, the problem is not the dungeon. The problem is you.

Dragon Wing cover is NOT a good item to speculate in

1.) Item has considerable supply
2.) Demand for such an item is low (especially considering the shatter wings are aesthetically superior and easy to acquire)
3.) Any sort of profit made on speculating will take several months to a year – at which point you need to keep in mind opportunity costs

To my knowledge, which can be summarized as reading 80% of the posts on here, there is pretty much nothing that can satisfy this community. Literally something always has to cause conflict and several rage posts. To add to that, most of the forum posts that do offer criticism, don’t offer it constructively. There is a lot of “This is the last straw Anet”, or “Does Anet even care about their players?” on this forum. We get patches every month! And in the last 2 months, its been twice a month, which is absolutely insane for a game. Obviously its a continual learning process, but I don’t think most of you actually take the time to appreciate the immense work Anet puts into the game, part of which is going on the forums listening to you guys make lousy complaints.
