A Norn and Sylvari stop in an inn just outside Hoelbrak for some refreshments after a long day adventuring. The Norn bellows to the bartender “Your largest and strongest ale!”. The Norn around him cheer him on in encouragement. The Sylvari then turns to the bartender “I’ll have a water please.”

A hush falls over the crowd as they look in stunned disbelief. The Norn says to his friend “You’ll have to order something stronger than that in this place, friend.” The Sylvari turns back to the bartender “… and put it in a dirty vase.”

Ale, GLORIOUS Ale! All the races in Tyria love their ale, but non more so than the Norn. Of course, the Norn are as susceptible to the infamous “ale-goggles” as everyone else. Listen to the tales you often hear after a moot of the conquests Norn men had. More often than not, it’s Eir today, Garm tomorrow.

hours played doesn’t mean much.

What means a lot more is what you did for those 3000 hours.

3000 hours farming shelt/pen? Yeah you’re unlucky
3000 hours playing wvw? You aren’t gonna get a precursor that way
3000 hours playing dungeons? Same as above.

kill rate per hour is more important than hours played. Of course there is no way to check that in game but everyone knows their playing habits.

I agree with the OP that Anet has really done a lot right with this event, and it’s worth letting them know the things we appreciate:

- The fact that the coffers drop from any mob, even WvW enemies, and fairly frequently.

- The free Minis gift.

- Dragon Ball is a fun pvp mode (coming from someone who doesn’t like spvp).

- The fact that the Gift of the Dragon Bash gives you a light, medium, and heavy helm, meaning you don’t have to pick just one character to have it.

- And of course all the art assets like the LA decoration and fireworks are neat, especially the Mystic Forge.

So thanks, Anet. In spite of all the constant complaining on the forums, your players do notice and care about the good stuff.

The detail in general that went into decorating Lion’s Arch. Each time I go there, I keep finding new little details that I love. The paintings on the ground, the steam covers, the new little things they’ve placed around LA like the statues.

The other thing I’m liking is having more to do for my third 100% explore character as they explore the map. It can be a bit tedious doing it for the third time, but getting coffers from drops and having things like that to hunt help up the variety a bit, and the possibility of getting a ticket just by mapping is nice.

With all the complaining going down on these forums I want to hereby create a topic where a more positive sound can be heard.

First of all some constructive criticism towards certain aspects of the Dragon Bash:
- Love the Dragon Ball minigame BUT could you guys plz start to use a group up systematic for minigames like that. Nothing is more fun than to be able to play with your Guild mates rather than random strangers.
- The amount of Zhaitaffy that people need to accumulate in order to get the holographic dragon wings is too large. This is proven by the fact that the wings can be bought directly from the BLT for about 14 gold at present which is in fact cheaper than to buy the candy in order to get the thing from a vendor.

With that bit of criticism out of the way I did the continuation of the storyline yesterday and have to say that the Effigy burning ceremony along with the chatter between various characters that was going down was highly enjoyable. Characters were introduced, the dress up of the ceremony was nicely staged and the way we as players subsequently had to supply an escort and fend off attackers was nicely put together.

The effigy burning, while a bit repetitive, as with the pinhata bashing/firework launching, can be done throughout the month giving us 2-3 weeks to complete it all so that’s something you can do while you quest, are on your way to do dungeons etc.

I’m interested to see how the storyline will continue today with the interaction at the Dead End in Divinity’s Reach.

June 18th Addendum

Starting Tuesday, June 18th

  • The Dragon Effigy Lighting Ceremony single-player instance, Memorials on the Pyre, can be accessed by talking to Inspector Kiel.
  • Festival planners have added effigies to the explorable areas leading to Lion’s Arch. Players who dance before the effigies will be granted a health bonus of up to 10%.
  • What better way of celebrating Dragon Bash than with an epic fireworks display? This bundle provides 10 charges of red, blue, green, and yellow display fireworks, as well as a one-time dragon fireworks finale which grants 50% magic find boost to all nearby allies watching the show.
    • Note: We understand how exciting fireworks can be, but if you drop the bundle you will lose all remaining charges of the display fireworks. If you had not used the finale fireworks, a bundle will be created at your feet that, if recovered, will allow you to still use the one-time dragon finale.

I run to the effigies, and to adjacent maps on foot, only porting to nearby cities. It’s good for hitting holos and nodes along the way – but I wouldn’t say there is a “right” or a “wrong” way to do anything…
There is only preference.
You prefer to run, they prefer to WP.

I lot of them are complaining about the cost of the porting method, though.

You can do it however you want, sure, but it’s silly to see people whining about the cost of WPing to do it when the only reason they’re doing it that way in the first place is to rush through the achievement as fast as possible even though it provides no real benefit.

Just another example of the way GW2 players seem to feel like they’re entitled to accomplishments immediately and with the minimal possible effort. If you choose to WP it, fine, but don’t whine about the cost. It’s not like that’s some new mechanic that got added with the effigies or that it should be temporarily disabled just so you can rush the achieve as fast as possible with minimal effort.

And yet 20 of them would have given the same effect. Personally, to achieve the effect you describe (and I had a similar experience) I would rather they not respawn at all, there are a smaller set number of them spread out in interesting places and you have to go out and get them all, once.

Okay, I know that all gamers aren’t the same and don’t have the same goals in mind but hear me out. I am reading a lot about how these effigies are just one more gold sink to grind through. You go to a map, locate the effigies, find the nearest waypoints, warp, trigger effigy, then move on to the next waypoint or map if you have all three. While I can understand people wanting the achievement as quickly as possible, I believe that they are severely limiting their enjoyment by doing it this way. The first map I did, I followed the plan I explained above… and it was boring and costly. I decided from then on that I would warp to a map and go to each effigy ON FOOT. And you know what, I had a lot more fun that way. Not only did it cost me a lot less to do this achievement but it also did something far better. It allowed me to explore this beautiful world again since I first finished map completion months ago. I had forgotten just how much I was missing by constantly waypointing again and again. THIS is what made it more enjoyable and a reason I applaud Anet for making the decision to spread them out like this. Yes, it will take more time to do these on foot. But also, yes, it will be more enjoyable and less costly. So while this will be a provocative statement, yes grinders, you are doing it wrong.

Ìn it’s fullest sense of the word, I agree MakersMark.

To be clear, it’s more a figure of speech then anything else. It’s simply the best word I can use for it.

Do tell me if you have any better single word to describe controlling 90% of the total flow of an item in the market. Going in and going out. I sure have none.
For around half a year or longer for that matter.

I’m not going to disclose direct information of what I’m running, for obvious reasons.
I will give some realistic examples however of my experience over the last 6 months.
Using fictional value’s but correct ratio’s.

For one, this isn’t a long term investment item, bound to any event. It’s an all day everyday item.
Which is good, cause that makes it a very consistent market.

It is an item that can be crafted, however here comes the layout :

The item in question can be crafted for say, 90 copper per unit.
Vendor value is 22 copper per unit.

You can smell what’s coming from here.
I’ve consistently owned the buyorder on the trade post on 23 copper per unit.
With about 10.000 units at that value at any given time. Owned by just me.
This is something easy to verify myself, because there’s simply no other numbers out
there besides the ones I own.
1 + 1 = 2 and all that.

On average. I have about the same amount of active stock as I have in buy orders.
So say I have around 10.000 stock, Usually most of it in the bank
Sometimes a lot of it actually supplied in the market cause i don’t feel like managing it
for a while.
And actively on a day to day basis, anywhere from 1000 to 3000 units sell, but come in
just as fast on buy orders.
Average selling price has been anywhere from 50-75 copper unit. Depending on how
far I forced it.
At unique times even selling @ 100-120 copper per unit. Above crafting costs just to see
how long it would take for the community to catch on.

However, for some reason, the small amount of units that show up in the world via random drops. Which is incredibly minimal.
Or through people crafting a few to lvl their craft.
100’s and 100’s of players end up selling those few units to the buy order.
The few that do put tiny amount of units on the market never end up influencing the market.
Cause lets face it, on 1000-3000 units of flow per day, 50-100 units aren’t going to have
an influence.

It’s an open market, nothing is ever garanteed, I know that you all know that.

So supply of this item is existing, but very limited.
That limited supply coming out of the game naturally, goes generally through my hands.
And last but not least, and offcourse I will never know the full truth of this. But I honestly think
that at this moment and for the last 4 months, 90% of the existing units in the whole game
have been going through my hands, or are in my hands as we speak.

The most interesting part is actually, that I didn’t go into it wanting do trading with it.
I simply wanted it.
And ended up after about 3 weeks noticing that I physically had 75% of the market in my
hand without even lifting a finger.
From there on bells started ringing and I’ve been running it since. By controlling the supply going back into the market.

Obviously I can be forced out, it takes only seconds to buy out a market.
But that can only happen if I let them. And is the reason 75% of my active stock
never touches the market.
You can’t buy out what’s not in the trade post.
That and you would have to outbid a buyorder, without me competing it.
For a longer period of time actually, to get any volume in your hands to start interfering.

Fact :
At any given time, I have about 15g up in buy orders. and 30g worth of stock in sale value.
On a day to day basis, I make anywhere from 1-4g profit.
Which i know to all you mongrels seems like nothing.
But that is 200-400 gold profit in the last 4 months alone. Not counting spikes.
Which have been quite extreme at times
( Thank you A.net for that 3 days free play for new players not to long ago )

And this was going into it with 1g to begin with…

We can talk about what a monopoly is or isn’t or if it’s even possible for a long time.
But that still doesn’t answer the questions I asked.
Think with me and lets just call it monopoly for ease of the word.
How would one value such a thing?
How does one put a price tag on this?

I ask this cause the active stock doesn’t hold that much value obviously.
But long term the profit is tremendous when played right.

One dude made a suggestion that was very interesting but quickly buried in the suggraveyard forum.

He was promoting the idea that a significant part of the gold rewards from a dungeon should be tied to how often this dungeon is run by the players. This would decrease the incentive to farm CoF, and increase the incentive to do other dungeons. I thought it was very clever. Unfortunately I cannot give you the link to the suggestion thread because it is contrary to forum rules.

Revert holos HP but keep invulnerability

in Dragon Bash

Posted by: Fiontar.4695

Fiontar.4695

The OP, IMO, is completely wrong. The increase in HP is good, as it allows people a better chance to get there in time to tag the mobs. The initial invulnerability is bad, because it now makes it harder to reliably tag the mobs. Why is this bad? Before the change, I would tag and then decrease my damage output considerably if others were at the node. to ensure that they also had a chance to tag. Now I have to be much more aggressive to ensure that I get full contribution, making it harder to make sure everyone gets a share.

My suggestion? Give the mobs a few seconds of protection as they fan out, rather than invulnerability, so that people have a few seconds to tag where they are much less likely to kill the mobs outright. This would make the orderly sharing of nodes a lot less stressful.

Sure, but what have the players who have not wished to waste their money on RNG boxes got in the past few months. Just look at the settlers weapons we got at the end of the last living story. It really shows how much anet cares about those players. This has turned into a f2p model MMO.

Here are some notable items made availble in game over the last few months:

- Winter’s day items
– Fractal skins
– Ascended gear
– Laurel vendor items
– Guild reward items
– SAB
– Molten Weapons Factory

The individual items are a bit too numerous for me list, so, I just listed the general categories. But you get the idea. Not enough?

As Vahkris pointed out the only notable things which the type of player you mention has missed out on, have been a few weapon skins.

I agree completely, however I wanted to double down on this point:

But considering all the impatient people want to finish this in a day, it’s become a major issue.

Seriously, I think you hit the nail on the head here. It’s become somewhat expected by players that they should be able to complete the new Living Story content in a single day. Now they’re given the equivalent of a Monthly (for a month-long celebration…weird, I know) and it’s suddenly a huge grind…only because they’re trying to complete it all as fast as possible, which means they need to focus on it…which makes it a grind.

Yes, there were/are bugs. They need to improve the holograms so they don’t die as fast (hint, go to the higher level zones, they didn’t die so fast there). But most of the complaints I’ve seen stem more towards the fact that people want to complete everything today, and get all the skins right now (seems like ArenaNet made a set people really want).

This coffer situation is probably the best version of the RNG boxes they’ve yet done. I’m actually approving of this setup if they really want to use them.

Edit: Also note, in addition to only needing to do 10 achievements to get the meta…5 of those are the storyline. You’ll get it if you actually play the game.

You don’t need to do Moa Racing, Dragon Ball, or even compete against other players to do the Holographic Minions.

The complaints thus far are absolutely mind boggling.

1.) Moa racing shouldn’t be part of the meta achievement.

Congratulations, it’s not! You only have to do 10/14 achievements, of which you have AN ENTIRE MONTH to do.

2.) The holo dragons in the lower zones breed competition and contempt.

It was like this during Halloween, Christmas and SAB. Same plan. But considering all the impatient people want to finish this in a day, it’s become a major issue. Once again, YOU HAVE AN ENTIRE MONTH. Let the crowds thin out and you’ll see the nodes sitting around doing nothing, like they have in every other event beforehand.

3.) RNG RNG RNG RNG RNG RNG RNG RNG

The biggest complaint I saw in Southsun was the fact that the crates off mobs didn’t drop enough. Now they drop off ANY WORLD MOB and now you have coffers being THROWN at you, in the hundreds and thousands, and you DON’T HAVE TO PAY A DIME. The RNG boxes have worked the same in EVERY OTHER HOLIDAY BEFOREHAND and if you’re a sucker enough to keep buying into them, then I have no hope for you as a human being. People are picking up hundreds IN A SINGLE DAY, and once again, THE EVENT LASTS FOR AN ENTIRE MONTH. The weapon skins DO NOT AFFECT YOU, in ANY WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM, so have some WILLPOWER and DON’T BUY THEM.

By god, ever since that “other MMO” started handing everything to everyone by just logging in, everyone thinks that’s how it should be now.

Thank you, Denwic! Just what I thought the whole time yesterday and today when I saw all the whine-threads out there.

It is so much easier to get a ticket this time than the last time without buying boxes in shop. Yes, people are saying they opened 1000 coffers to get a skin… but if there are people who have 1000 coffers they must (and they do) drop very well. Far better than southsun-boxes. And it’s only the first day! There is a month time. So keep playing and loot coffers.

@Cameirus: About the exploit: Maybe ArenaNet hadn’t thought that a lot of players are such unfair idiots that they started to try how to exploid in the first minutes of the patch. ArenaNet should think better about the bad side of the people. As sad as this is.
