while this is a bit tongue and check I would like to seriously thank Abandons!

While fighting on EB Sunday night, I crashed due to the mega blob.

Said crash ended up putting me in queue, so I went to get a drink.

As I got to my kitchen I heard a noise outside, and when I checked I found a guy trying to cut my bike lock with a pair of bolt cutters.

After cursing at him he ran off.

But I am rather pleased that my bike was saved.

Thank you abandons mega blob! You saved my bike!

In case u haven’t known already, u can check to see if u out of range by looking at the skill icon, if theres a red line underneath then u r out of range. Same goes for any other skill.

Temporal Curtain - Void delay too long

I appreciate the delay between using Temporal Curtain and Into The Void, there have been many times where an accidental double hit canceled it way too early for me. However the 1 second delay now between them is painfully too long. Using ITV as a pull has been brutally nerfed. This delay would be much better served as a 1/4 second delay instead of the full second. Please, ANet, consider reducing the delay to 1/4 second, that’s more than enough time to prevent accidental cancellation.

Did anyone else notice how painfully long a one second wait can be when you expect instantaneous? Ouch.

What are you talking about double click nonsense? That’s not the reason the delay was added. It was added to slightly nerf the skill, which was before a little too strong. Instant area pull to a desired direction on a relatively low cool down.

If that’s true, then the 1 second delay is a lot larger of a nerf than was likely intended. The skill wasn’t that powerful to begin with due to the fact that the lip of a wall, a pebble, anything would interrupt the pull… now people are easily dodging away before the second half can even fire off. A quarter second gives the alert time to react yet would leave the skill still useful in WvW.

It’s interesting that the biggest nerf was to Focus’ Illusionary Veil/Into the Void and no one has complained about this one specifically. I guess we saw it coming and it is a reasonable change. However it greatly harms the Focus as a viable weapon with iWarden’s placement and A.I. being so luckluster.

There is no difference when you factor in that ele’s get 3 heals total plus damage minus via protection all on a short cooldown yes we evaded everything but after we got lit up. Yes having it on a 8sec (if specced) was a little much but the evading everything was needed us being squishy and being in a melee range just like ele’s need 3 heal protection and a way to escape which no one can catch up with(actually 2 rotl and there slot 5 skill in air attunment) o ya we have invun from everything but remember we have 1 heal pretty much no wait to actually escape combat unless we spec into it and our protection has to be specced into too with a 15sec cooldown or via stealth which again needs to be heavily specced into.

I feel much squishier than before?

I would say vinceftw is correct.

Retaliation would be the real culprit for this and maybe conditions, ret hits really hard when you use multiple quick attacks (imagine confusion but much more difficult to remove ) and conditions keep ticking (before invulnerability would protect you from conditions during the duration of that attack).

Kinda sucks but when the people start to cry there ain’t much you can do.

Isn’t it annoying when the QQ screws you over?

Lowering condition duration is balanced by the runes and food you can use to increase duration. The only truly unbalanced thing in this game involving conditions is that silly engi trait that stops all condition effects. It is a grandmaster trait that reduces all condi durations by 100% when health is below 25%.

That’s the issue, you just don’t understand why we complain, making this whole week just pure aggravation on both sides.

Less and less ppl care about objectives or winning matchups, they look for fights.
Ongoing fights, back and forth, are fun. AC’ing not so much.

If you guys are better than us – and yes there are better WvW Guild / Players (i hardly play wvw tbh) – than you should be able to kill about 70% of our blobs. Top Tier Server proved this.

They proved they can bust your blob with 15ppl? Because thats the number most of our guilds run.

But when u got a queue on your BL, too, u are not that good (organized) as AM is.

We choose to run separate, to avoid lag amongst main reason, so we ‘organise’ that way. X goes north, Y goes south is the kind of map chat you would expect, rather than let’s all met at spawn in 30sec and run as one big mass.

I do understand is your way, it’s the most effective way for points and yada yada it’s all been said before.

The answer is defitnetly not going to be to counter blob all week long, it’s not a fun way to play WvW, that’s why we run small and tease you to give it a try, it’s good fun.

Because so many unskilled people are concentrated on one server, who only see option in running 60+ people blobs, it is ANet’s fault? Tbh, the server lagg is the least of my issue, we are all tired of fighting 60vs30, tired of not being able to take something, because of the insane amount of siege, or not being able to defend something, because there are too many golems. AM has no skills whatsoever, they win because they have numbers in people who blob up, and the number of siege. AM is not worse, or better than Gandara, they’re different, and we don’t like it, in fact, we hate it.

No, I still love my mesmer. Besides, if these changes really hurt the profession, I’m sure that Anet will address them. The best way is to keep playing them and show the problems, if any, so that Anet has enough info. to correct them.

Been testing Torment from a mesmer perspective and as much as I love them adding something new to scepter, I’m decidedly underwelmed. They REALLY need to increase the damage boost when targets are moving. People who get Torment on them should be terrified to move around. Instead, it’s like the slightest uptick from a super weak bleed. This won’t be stopping anyone from doing anything. Not even worth a condition cleanse. It’s the GW2 equivalent of getting a small pebble in your shoe.

A message to our esteemed forum moderators
To encourage thoughtful and organized discussion, it is best to leave threads approaching the patch notes from different directions as separate threads. Far from cluttering the forums, this allows for different aspects of the changes to be considered and discussed in an organized manner. If all such threads are merged into one, as has been done so far, it simply creates a disorganized mush of what could be helpful discussion.

That being said, here are my thoughts.

It seems to be that balancing and changes with regards to the mesmer class are being made while completely out of touch with the reality of this game. This patch only exemplifies that more.

Good Changes

  1. The Phantasmal Berserker was fixed. This is a good change. Unfortunately, it comes 6 months too late to deserve any applause or thanks.
  2. Bounce logic was fixed. This is a good change. Unfortunately, similar to the phantasmal berserker, this is a bug fix, and deserves only minor applause and thanks.
  3. Interrupt traits were significantly boosted. Unfortunately, due to the nature of interrupts, most of these traits still aren’t strong enough to base a build around.
  4. Phantasm hp was significantly increased in PvE and slightly increased in PvP. A good change, but more on this later.
  5. Signet of illusions was fixed so that it applies immediately. A good change but again, more on this later.
  6. Shattered conditions is now aoe

That’s about it. Now for the bad changes.

  1. Blurred frenzy is now an evade. It also has a its base cooldown increased by 20%
  2. Signet of illusions passive effect reduced to 50% down from 200%
  3. Vengeful images now only applies retaliation for 5 seconds after the summon of a phantasm
  4. Illusionist’s celerity moved from 5 point minor to 25 point minor

These are abbreviated versions. There are obviously more changes that I didn’t touch upon, but these are the only changes that (in my opinion) actually make a difference.

Here is the main issue. The positive changes to our traits and skills are relatively minor or are complete bug fixes. On the other hand, the nerfs are massive. Anet is obviously spending developer and programmer time figuring out effective ways to nerf mesmers, while completely ignoring the parts of our class that are still completely broken. I will now list the largest offenders.

  1. The iMage could be replaced with a placeholder saying “This skill does nothing” and nobody would care
  2. The scepter (even after this addition of torment) is completely useless. There are 0 situations outside of a glamour build in wvw that the scepter is better than the sword, greatsword, or staff unless one ignores all functions of the scepter other than the block itself.
  3. Phantasmal haste still does not apply to 2 of our phantasms: Swordsman and mariner
  4. Illusionary elasticity still does not apply to staff clones
  5. Wastrel’s punishment is still useless
  6. Mantras are still extremely underwhelming with underwhelming and poorly designed traits
  7. Due to the nature of interrupts, the interrupt traits are still of very limited use

These are a lot of massive problems. However, instead of fixing these problems, Anet decides to hand out significant nerfs. The nerf to signet of illusions, in my opinion, is reasonable, but that’s pretty much it. Blurred frenzy is nerfed twice, once in evade and once in cooldown. Vengeful images is, for all intents and purposes, no longer a trait. Lastly, Illusionist’s Celerity is moved from 5 point minor to 25 point minor, nerfing every single build that is not shatter.

And as if all that weren’t enough, these changes are made in the name of build diversity. Anet is telling us “These changes are actually good for your class. We are doing this to help you.”

Build diversity eh? These changes make a tank build very difficult to play effectively now. They vastly remove potential diversity from both PvE and PvP phantasm builds. They significantly nerf the already very weak condition builds that mesmers have. Across the board, all non-shatter builds that mesmers have are negatively impacted, most in very significant ways.

The small buffs that they gave us are insignificant. Shattered conditions is nice, but with the other changes, it’s now much more difficult to use it effectively. The interrupt traits are nice, but when you couple that with the other changes they just become another shatter variant. Bounce logic was fixed, but builds that rely on that (conditions) are even weaker now.

On top of all this, the phantasm builds that were stupidly overpowered in a 1v1 are still stupidly overpowered in a 1v1. A small cooldown nerf won’t change that. People are still going to get facerolled by any competent phantasm build player and they’ll just cry for more nerfs.

How does it work when you have the Cleansing Conflagration (Domination IX, 20% reduced Torch Skill cooldown, and Torch Skills remove conditions) trait?

I understand that you clear a condition on yourself when you use the Prestige, but do you also get a condition removed when you cast the iMage? Or does the iMage’s auto attack clear conditions on targets too?

I’m at work so I can’t really test this right now, but I’m curious as to how that trait works exactly… it might make it a slightly more viable Disenchanter-like Phantasm if he actually cures stuff too when traited.

Now unless you want to sink 20 points in dom for torch cooldown, or 25 in illusions, iMage is going to be on a kittenly long cooldown.

30s is way too long, it needs to be reduced to around 20s base.

Another thing fadeaway, with this change there is basicly no shatter build that can be considered vaible without 25 point in illusion, and if you 25 p in illusion its a big misstake to not go 30 for ip alternative mass interupt builds and get the mass daze.

So overall this change narrov the viable mesmer builds to 0-0-0-0-25 (30) and for al dmg dealing builds we look at 0-10-0-0-25. Sure there will be some experemental 10-0-30-0-0-30 interupt mass daze builds and some healing speed 0-0-0 30-30 but it will be hard to argue for any build without atleast 25 in illusions. This due to the fact it give a 20% ability drop for al our builds most important abilitys and utilitys.

Personaly as a shatter mesmer from the start I only se posseblitys in the changes as I already run mandatory 30 in illsuions, BUT the beuty of the mesmer class is the flexibility to run different builds, not glad to se that get worse.

The TC nerf really annoys me. It was literally made as a direct result of high end pvp play. It will still be very useful as a weapon, but it will be exponentially harder to catch people in WvW now with it.

Don’t engies have a pull similar to TC in their Toolbelt? As far as I understand it the reason for the nerf is you couldn’t see the pull coming, and it seems the engie one works the same way.

The thing that everyone complaining always forgets about.

Mesmers and Thieves aren’t inherently better duelist classes. They do have, however, better duelist builds. There’s nothing that’s implying that Mesmers and Thieves will get Torment for their strongest builds – if anything, it’ll just open up new possibilities for condition builds, which Mesmers and Thieves are weak at. Also, both Mesmers and Thieves lack build diversity, and are pretty much stuck on one or two builds, so new food for conditions makes sense.

That’s likely Osi. Here’s a tip on catching/beating him;

In the middle of the fight whisper him with “OMG YOU’RE OSI! YOU’RE SO GREAT!!!1!!11!”. He loves a good ego massage, and as a result, tries screenshot all whispers of that nature. Now the clever part; in order to take a screenshot he needs to use a key that isn’t part of the three keys he uses to play his class and kill people. So he’ll stop, stand still and look at his keyboard for a while. At first he’ll literally look for a key labelled “Got Screnshoot”, which obviously doesn’t exist. After about 10 seconds of scanning the keys for phrases like “phooto gud osi1!” and “getz +10r egos” he’ll resume fighting.

If you’ve not killed him in that time, then they’re done for.

SoR is losing rating because they haven’t kept TC and SoS to as low a score as the relative ratings predict. at around the time when SoR had 250K points, TC should have had 120K and SoS should have had 60K.
