Maybe soon we’ll see a patch again that doesn’t involve some trait-breaking nerf to Mesmers, but at the moment they really have it in for us. I don’t know where they’re getting their facts, or whom they listen to for these nerfs, but I’m beyond caring. They’re breaking everything they created, and in the end will leave us exactly where we were before this huge overhaul.
Lots of broken, bugged, or useless traits and only the one single build that’s viable…the almighty Power Shatter! Love it or leave the Mesmer profession!
I haven’t been this disappointed with Anet since the last time they had it in for Mesmers, and it took 2 years for us to finally see the light of day, and it took literally 2 days for that light to lose it’s brightness.
Every patch brings bad news for Mesmers, and almost no one else is getting nerfed AT ALL! That alone tells you there is someone in charge who hates Mesmers. I’m not talking about balancing here! These are heavy-handed nerfs with intent to kill off the traits in question.
Also it’s plain that they didn’t invest 1 cent in beta-testing this patch, and that we’re currently beta testing for them. With all the alienating frustrations that come along with beta tests.
I agree Curunen, but I gave up on that 2 years ago. Most of the players want their one weapon to be the best for a specific job, and the new traits show this design across most classes. The devs are merely listening to their playerbase.
The thing which bugs me the most is before the patch it was possible to play condition shatter without Scepter thanks to the 2 torment stacks.
After the patch it is almost impossible to play condition shatter without Scepter – try not using Scepter (ie Sword/Torch, Focus, Pistol and Staff) and it’s beyond pathetic.
I hate being forced into mandatory use of a weapon when there was more flexibility before the patch.
Hell I even used Greatsword with condition sigils for a while, and now it’s totally impossible.
Currently I’m having to run Sword/Torch + Scepter/Focus which is the compromise that I have to make until MtD is fixed.

It kind of reminds me of the old confusion burst in WvW, only without any of the skill/setup to land it, or the factor of necessary skill spam to proc the damage ticks. Once you got that burning, you ded XD

Thank you for bringing shatter back. I am so happy that I will work on my guide again as sign of support. I want to give back.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
I wonder how long this will last. Perhaps one more week.
Even though there is some OP stuff right now, I would like to thank Robert for the wonderful job he did on the necro and Mesmer changes. Both classes feel like they have an identity now and have unique features that other classes will never get. All I ask is PLEASE don’t overnerf things from kneejerking (Chaotic dampening, Healing prism, whats next???), and please fix our bugs <3
Retired.

Wow, everyone I’m really touched to see a thread like this and I’m really glad to see everyone having so much fun with mesmer since the patch. We’ve all been working on these changes for many months and it’s a really weight off my chest to finally be able to play these changes on live.
I want to clarify though that a lot of the changes you see aren’t my work alone. While I was driving most of the mesmer changes and pushed some of the more… shall we say “extreme” examples coughmimiccough, many other significant changes (like Illusionary Persona becoming baseline) wouldn’t have happened without feedback and suggestions from other folks on the skills team like Roy and Karl as well as our dedicated team of testers.
Praise Lyssa and have fun with the new traits!

Theives have always been able to do insane burst in seconds from stealth but its ok for theives to do that because…cough mumble mumble cough mumble MESMER OP NERF MESMER
I don’t have any issue with reasonable adjustments like 17% on PB, or even if they clipped PU a bit down to 75%. Those are tweaks, certainly not minor, but not huge either.
What I want to know is how an ability was ever conceived that needs a 50%+ nerf. Why did no one figure this out before mathematically? In the case of the Staff trait nerf, how could you possibly not have foreseen the issue with this? It’s plain common sense and basic math.
Even before the patch I noted that these new CD reduction abilities are not a good idea. They’re not only hard to balance, but I fail to see any added value they bring. It’s not exactly skillful to use PR in your CS and follow that up with the CA active in order to maximize the CD reduction. However, when the baseline for abilities is usually 20%, and then you force players to jump through hoops without rewarding them for it…what was gained again? Nothing. It does nothing but create unneeded complexity without reward, and makes a class both tedious and unrewarding to play. Good game design tries to eliminate these situations, rather than create more of them!
With 3% you’re in the territory of where you can potentially gain significant CD reduction by jumping through even more hoops, but obviously Anet feels that puts you back into OP territory as far as CS & CA go. What was the point of this new design then? Just let go of bad design decisions! Go back to flat 20% and don’t add unnecessary complexity & tedium without payoffs!
“More effort with lesser or equal result” has been the mantra Mesmers have complained about for years, and now you’re moving right back into that territory with every heavy-handed nerf you’re making.
Balancing should ideally never involve adjustments of more than 5-25% here or there, and should also ideally be an iterative process of such smaller adjustments over time. (As opposed to knee jerk, which has never ever lead to a balanced game!)
Every time you have to halve something or worse, you should be asking yourselves how the design could have been so bad from the outset, to require such a gutting later. In almost every case, you will not achieve balance, but only ruin abilities, classes, and simply mask the real issue: poor design. (Not to mention you’re wasting precious resources and alienating customers in the process.)

It will not last. One-shotting people from insanely long stealth while having all the boons in the world is certainly fun. Still, one could hope that people know pu will certainly be nerfed soon and there is not AGAIN all this crying that mesmers are being unfairly treated once it is (although of course there will be).
Oh plz.. you get 1 random boon outta of 5 out of PU trait.
second of all.. everybody 1 shots squishy’s. thief is the best of them all outta of stealth.

it’s been 2 days. We’ve been nerfed 3 times already. All you mesmers that claim it’s no fun anymore, get ready for some more “fun”.
The unicorn itself is typically male. He just likes to hang out with maidens. The whole cultural symbolism of young women and horses in Western society is probably outside the scope of this thread.
Also, we did get Lute Guy. Lute Guy is male.

suck it up, buttercup. :p
I’d prefer a bird, but I don’t mind the unicorn.
GUYS go play condi ele
15 stacks of burning
10 stacks of bleeding
blind
immobilze
with celestial even
OMG
anet go test another golem in the mist
I entirely agree. That would be a much better change. Though 10s feels a bit too long, 5 too short. Something like 7-8s would be a nice sweet spot.

They should just nerf everything really.
Yeah, the worst part of this is that tetrodoxin is right.
Conditions are way too strong at the moment, and there will almost definitely be some blanket nerfs to tone them down. Unfortunately, MtD is going to be forgotten when that happens, and will be even more worthless than ever.
It’s the exact sort of unique trait support I’ve always wanted on my Mesmer.
The synergy of Inspiring Distortion with Blurred Inscriptions and Master of Fragmentation is exciting. It’s very powerful in WvW but has an obvious drawback in sPvP
Whats really funny is a lot of the changes for Mesmer was to make it so every build had to shatter to be effective. 10 hours later and the best thing for a condie mesmer to do is to camp in stealth while staff or scepter clones auto attack.
If we had to nerf OP things, all classes would need to be tone down in several ways.
This is a ridiculous nerf. Condi mesmer was already toned down with no Confusing Combatants and the new changes to poison and burning with our remaining only 1 stack, while other professions got several stacks to match the lost of condi damage.
The sad thing is mesmers are the only one touched, the rest of professions can still roll with their broken mechanics…

Wow…
I’m speechless – this is amazing.
Yeah it’s amazing!
Best change ever. I still can’t believe it.
Stealth doesn’t do anything by itself.
What are you going to do with ages of stealth in conquest other than lose points?
Ages of stealth do nothing other than let you disengage from fights in WvW, it doesn’t help you win them.
The only single situation in the game where tons of stealth is objectively handy by itself is when you’re hiding in a keep in WvW.
Well, you’d be right…except that you, like the devs, have a drastic lack of basic knowledge about how this game functions. Allow me to enlighten you so that you might be less prone to embarrassment in the future.

Before, MtD was a grandmaster trait that got to compete with IP.
Now, MtD is a master trait that gets IP and your grandmaster trait of choice for free.
I believe it’s a fair nerf, considering how it was indirectly double buffed.
People keep saying stuff like this, why? Under the new system why does a GM trait have to be stronger then a master trait? They both cost the same to equip.
Every class is going to have some crazy builds with whatever damage – power/condition /hybrid – that will be blowing up noobs left right and centre from tomorrow.
I seriously doubt maim the disillusioned is anywhere near the top of that list.
The nightmare torch from twilight arbor looks fantastic.
