I didnt saw any arena net comment on our prediction lately or any comment in living world in general. I know they dont wat to spoil the conent but a few hints would be cool or at least jumping in on the discusion.

We’re pretty sensitive to giving away story spoilers, which is why I don’t often comment on Living World release speculation.

There are quite a few asura who show worry and care for others that aren’t asura. But many do hide that worry and care behind “I’m just afraid we’ll lose whatever intelligence they have” or “if they’re gone, my genius is vulnerable!” (for those whom are in hostile areas). Not many, but enough to be noticed if you read dialogue.

Dear ANet writers,

There are a couple examples of humans liking norn though – before destruction in LA there were two human females who comment on two passing norn, one of which blatantly gives a sultry comment on the man.

I remember that one…

In Timberline Falls there’s a Vigil patrol where a human guy is constantly trying to woo a female norn with poetry (and she’s constantly turning him down).

That one is new to me, I’ll have to go looking in that map again.
It is so nice to see nuggets like this when walking around.

Elona, Land of the Golden Sun….and undead…and poison. The travel brochure lied okay?!

I would rather see Anet’s time, work, and resources go into further developing the actual lore of the gameworld, but that’s just me.

It’s not interracial. It’s inter-species. Interracial would be a human Canthan getting married or involved in a relationship with a human from Kourna or Vabbi or Ascalon Settlement.

You’ve pretty much hit it on the head, Bellyboomer. It’s very, very, very uncommon, but it can and does happen, and I don’t even know that you could say it’s “freaky”- there doesn’t seem to be much in the way of stigma or societal outcasting in Tyria regarding sexual preferences, but also, I don’t see why such relationships would have to be sexual. I would imagine they would lean towards playing out like a typical relationship among one of the participating races, or at weirdest a fusion of two different cultural relationship styles. Such a thing would be no more sexual than a ‘normal’ relationship, and in a few cases I would bet that it’d be much less so- can you imagine any comfortable way for an asura to do it with a charr (or norn)?

As a side note, it’s dev-confirmed that none of the major races are interfertile.

I still think that Asura with other races is too dangerous for him, and his logic should prevent him from mingling with bookahs.

Yeah, that’s todays topic. Over on the asura forum, this thread is going on:

“So, I can’t stop thinking about handsome charrs. I am Asura and proud to be. I just can’t help but to think how cute charr are and how I want to hug and cuttle their soft fur. Do you think it’s romantic? Or do you asura and/or charr think the same? Do you even think a romance is possible.”

" It could happen. Most Asura are attracted to brains, and Charr are attracted to strength/ferocity, but it’s a big, wide world out there. Somewhere out there I’m sure there’s a Charr who wants a cute little Asura partner for his very own.
For the record, my male Charr is currently in a relationship with a female human."

So yeah… I think they are confusing possibility with their own weird desires, but I’ve come to you guys for a broader perspective. Do Tyrians go freaky with other races?

Given anything we know about the races, their behavior and their culture, I think it’s near impossible, except for the occasional freaky outcast (which probably doesn’t involve a cute relationship like these fangirls want, but more of a sexual deviant one). Your thought?

You do several quests for the necromancer order post searing, involving killing one pre-searing trainer, and attacking another (He escapes and forms a cult later. Verata).

The thing with order of whispers is, yeah you know their generic members… but they have people EVERYWHERE. In the other two orders, as bartenders, hell I came across one at the Seraph fort in north-west Gendarren fields, his job was to inspect the fort and see about improving the structures, and he was a whisper member.

IMO, Order of Whispers purposefully has a public front to throw people off. A Mesmer collective likely doesn’t have a public front, like the necromancer order didn’t really have a public face. OR it’s simply a gathering of mesmers, but otherwise has no real goals/objectives. So instead of having missions or objectives, it’s more like “Hey, this is weird. ask Bob who is in the area to check it out for us.”

Tamias.7059

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a profession-specific organisation like this. There was also the Order, which was a guild of necromancers. We don’t hear anything about it after pre-Searing (I think?), which would mean either it stopped existing at some point between 1070 and 1072, or that it is exclusively for Ascalonian necromancers (I will say that Elementalist Aziure seems to be at least affiliated with the Order, but everyone else involved is a necromancer). We also have the Flaming Scepter Mages, who are comprised exclusively of elementalists, the assassin guild Obsidian Flame, and Shauben, who are all warriors. Each of these guilds are for humans, and specific to the nation that they are from (Ascalon, Cantha, Istan, respectively). So this sort of arrangement isn’t unusual. What is interesting is the way that Jory makes it seem like this “Mesmer Collective” is the organisation that mesmers belong to. Does that mean it could be multiracial? Rereading the Angel McCoy interview might be a worthwhile start; the discussion of magic seems to raise the question of what commonalities might exist between mesmers of different races.

I hope that this organisation is exclusive and deliberately mysterious. I’d be annoyed if it was played out that way and then it turns out my mesmer was a member the whole time. Players should have access to the same information as their characters in roleplaying games.

We literally know next to nothing about it. That entry is really all we know of it, and the name is what Jory calls it not its actual known name. There’s really only two mentions of it ever – the casual mention by Marjory before the Tower of Nightmares was revealed, and in an interview with Angel McCoy in which she said that they wouldn’t want people to know the full capabilities of mesmers (to avoid paranoia and distrust of the magical field).

Some folks did, since Blightghast and Tequatl were known before we see them. And there were only two individuals – Caithe and Trahearne – who saw Zhaitan itself (and lived).

That said, the Shadow of the Dragon is said to be a representation of Zhaitan. Meaning that it isn’t meant to be accurate, but abstract. It’s only made physical due to the Nightmare’s presence in the Dream – which is also where the Nightmare Hounds come from. But the Shadow of the Dragon is meant to be like the emblem on the waterfall when you make a sylvari (the emblem being of the biography option – shield of the moon, white stag, or green huntsman’s helm), but made hostile and physical by the Nightmare.

In other words, it’s really just by chance that the Shadow of the Dragon was an enemy. Though it was said on the original sylvari guildwars2.com page that some sylvari see a shadow of the dragon and are called to fight the various Elder Dragons’ champions – so the Shadow of the Dragon may not be entirely by chance to be such an enemy, just that it represents Zhaitan instead of Tequatl, Shatterer, Claw of Jormag, or some other champion is by chance.

Many personal story things (airships, huge creatures and so on) are really on the maps, but just invisible. You can see them very often from distance and they disappear if you get closer.

In Arah storymode you can see the Glory of Tyria before you even reach the dragon fights.

Lore Based Dynamic Event chains?

in Lore

I think the issue here is that none of us are you. None of us can define interesting for you. Every single event in the game touches on or contributes to the lore in some small way, and which you find interesting and which you find tedious is entirely a matter of taste. If you like text dumps, there are events for you. If you like quirky dialogues, there are events for you. If you like really clear and/or compelling reasons to be killing what you are, there are events for you. If you like any events with giants because they’re events with giants (can’t be just me, right?), there is Harathi, Kessex, Diessa, and Brisban for you. If you can’t no-life grind giants forever and want something small by contrast, there are events for that too (though I recommend steering clear of the shrunk progeny in Metrica- as far from a giant as you can get, sure, but oh so aggravating). Narrow it down for us and we’ll be able to give you advice.

Indeed, the events are mostly just battle, or escort. There is this event in Lornars Pass i think (many Priory and thus more lore-oriented events are there and on Dredgehaunt Cliffs) where you escort a scholar to a dwarven tomb where she does find something truly interesting…. alas she doesnt say anything about what it was even as you finish the event and see her back in the camp afterwards. That was disappointing, but a pretty good tell about how much lore i can expect from the actual events in the game…

GW2 events tend to show the current game world, skritt are stealing from harpies, the dredge fighting the Priory, and so on. In some ways this is the lore of GW2. You don’t have pages of text telling you the history of the minor races, you just get shown how the dragon minions are creating havoc for the minor races all across Tyria.

Orr has many events that give additional lore beyond the personal story. Other than that there seems to be bits of lore scattered all over each zone.

I guess i mean unique events that stick out in your mind. I’m just looking to try some events out that other people found interesting and the only lists I can find are the most rewarding or the ones that get you the best stuff. I am just looking for a list of interesting chains to play for fun.

The Isle of Janthir is the part of the map I’d most like to visit. If we never go there I would really like to see us go to places never explored in either game. Would be nice to have the world of Tyria explored more fully. Would also be nice for GW2 to get areas and regions exclusive to itself rather than just revisiting reskinned maps from GW1.

So, the mysterious islands north of kryta in Janthir bay. What do we know about them? Who lives there? Will we ever find out? I think there are many questions about these islands that needs answering. Is arenanet going to use them in some content? I mean, they are on the map so it is possible that we might visit them in Gw2. Or they maybe are just there because it would be weird for them to be there in Gw1 and not there in Gw2.

What are you guys thoughts?

Nice.

I think the most important things there from the OP are:

1. The world being at a stand still around the occurrences, and the history of bigger events , like the forming of the Pact, the character being the commander. It really feels like add-ons to the movement of the world, without there being any interaction with eachother. even all the dragon factions are far apart from eachother and they don’t interact. I could totally imagine the sons of svanir clashing with Crystal minions.

2. Not leaving plot holes in the game, to fix them with things outside the game. I don’t mind side stories about seemingly uncorrelated information in the game. But if something OUTSIDE the game is needed to explain what happens in the game itself then that is silly.

3. I really think the story needs to tie in both personal story and living story in one. And giving options to players to make important choices and changes are needed in a gaming environment.

Let us fail at something like defeating a dragon champion, or maybe if we actually defeat it, then the story progresses differently. I found the voting for which captain to be really nice, and unique and felt like we had some influence on the world. That’s something that i really liked.

Seems like Anet has replaced most of its story writers, because in GW1 story was quite good whereas in GW2’s Living Story it’s (imo) horrible.

They both had good moments but as a whole?

Eh, not really. All six versions of story (four for GW1 and two for GW2) were serviceable but not awesome. Riddled with cliches, predictable, and just strong enough to tie things together. Especially Prophecies and Factions.
