Hey folks,

It seems we inadvertently outed (some of) our plans for WvW with the above linked page. While we are looking to extend World XP changes for WvW in a later content patch, it still needs some tweaking and therefore isn’t ready to be introduced in this one.

We can however officially let you know we are moving the jumping puzzle for EB into it’s own map, as this has been a much requested feature for our beloved siege fairing community.

Apologies for the hicup

@CHIPS,

I’m sorry, but it’s extremely hard to follow your post. It’s like you’re posting answers to a list of questions I didn’t post. I get the general gist (“you’re bad and wrong”) but it seems like you’re trying to respond to specific points and I just can’t easily connect my points to your counterpoints. I’ll do my best to respond but I’m just going to have to skip a few numbers.

1) In wvw zerg fights an ele would always use staff. Only the most crazy eles would use dagger. So that weapon switching problem is non-existent for them. They don’t need it. They just need to switch the elements at any time to be effective.

But then the fight changes and you’re SOL. One line charges the other, you need to give chase or suddenly deal with a crazy glass Thief (oh boy do they ever exist in WvW with their 10.5k backstabs) who’s jumped you, etc etc. If you’re just sitting by a wall attacking or defending, yeah, you’re just just going to sit in staff but there are situations where you feel the lack of weapon swap.

Corrupt Boon is the another useless skill in wvw.

I must respectfully disagree. Anyone with Stability can be rough for a zerg to take down sometimes. I find a lot of Commanders like to buff themselves up and lead the charge into a Lord’s Room. I honestly can’t count the number of times I’ve seen someone go from flying through a zerg with near-impunity to flat on the ground after pushing that single button. For some reason, killing a commander with a single “kitten you” button is one of the more satisfying things in the game for me.

Skill ceiling is not how hard it is to learn a profession. That is called the learning curve. Skill ceiling is how much you can potentially achieve with a profession. And the necro is very low in skill celling.

I’m aware of the difference between the two terms. I’ve just heard it said about almost everything that ends up being considered overpowered. When the game first came out, everyone said this about the Elementalist as well (“way too high skill floor, way too low skill ceiling,” to be precise). Then we figured out x/x/x30/30.

This leads me to be suspicious.

I main Ele and Necro, though I have an alt of each profession at level 80.

The titles display for your selected target and your party members. Otherwise they are not displayed in WvW. We felt it would be a cleaner experience that way. In terms of a checkbox, we’ll look into that. It was much simpler to remove them than to provide more detailed options and we felt it was worth it to do so.

well, not having them, without having an options to HAVE them is better than having them, without an option to NOT have them.
So it was the right decision, imo.

You’re definitely going from one end of the spectrum to the other. The thief is extreme mobility at the cost of being fragile by default if you do get pinned down. The necromancer is quite durable by default, with the cost of being easy to pin down with control effects.

Problem being that one these features is MUCH MORE REWARDING than the other.

You pop on the WvW forum as many people do and start browsing the posts. What do you learn?

This sever cheats, this server only zergs, We are better but not enough numbers….

Heck look at the stickies even, the only thing we have is how to keep score, when the reset happens, and night capping… That is sad.

Day after day I hear both commanders and veterans of WvW complain about how the “Randoms” do not know how to play and hurt us. But yet we do not try to teach or put our knowledge out there.

I challenge us as a community to start adding some good threads on tactics, general gameplay and ways to help all of us get better.

People say they want more small groups. Make a thread telling of the synergies of classes for those, possible builds, strats to use. Let people know that the badge drop rates seem to be higher in a smaller group. Get people excited about trying it.

I would love more info on seige. Where to put trebs, what they can hit from each spot.

Once we put the work in and get those threads, we need to challenge ANET to acutually sticky something in here that will be helpful.

Just an observation, i think we are missing what this forum should be about.

Dragon Festival meh won’t be the same I’m sure since Cantha isn’t allowed, gem store gets a bunch of temporary content as usual. Limited time only! Is that supposed to make me grab one before they run out, because it actually makes me not want to buy them out of spite.

And yet there is a rather clear part of the post that states that there is also armor-skins that CAN be used in combat.

Please also note that the Suggestions sub-forum will not be open permanently. This is a temporary solution until we roll out a better, more organized way to provide suggestions to the development team than using the forums. – ReginaBuenaobra

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/How-This-Sub-Forum-Works/first#post74613

Why The Suggestions Forum Needs To Be Organized

At the moment, the suggestion forum needs to be organised for the devs to have a systematic way of looking through the suggestions. As it is, players can be an untapped source of Suggestions that could make the game even greater.

My Suggestions

Tags – When creating a suggestion, you’d have a drop-down box in which you’d have to select a category at where the suggestion is aimed at. For example, Leveling, UI, Dungeons, Content, Skills, ect. This would automatically add a [Category] tag that can then be used for ease of searching and filtering (where the filter would be added for people to be able to look through).

So, for example, suggestions for improving the UI would have [UI] before the suggestion title.

Once the thread has been created…

Community Vote – If someone likes a suggestion, they press a button saying “I Approve Of This” (or something like that). At the end of a given time period, the top [insert x number of posts here] OR if the post reaches a certain amount of likes, the suggestion are put into a Featured subsection for the Devs to look at. Likewise, posts that get a lot of discussion also have a look in.

Finally, once ANet have considered the thread….

Feedback – ANet give the thumbs up / thumbs down whether they like the suggestion / concept behind the suggestion or not. If they do but they’d like to make some changes, explanations of the changes would be given.

If not, as a matter of courtesy, I’d expect them to give a reason why.

Life is a journey.
Time is a river.
The door is ajar.

As with any change we are aware of the concerns about titles, nameplates, and screen clutter and we are investigating what we can do about all of these things to try and improve the experience now that you can see so many people on screen.

seriously?
You need to investigate this?
There should’ve been a toggle in the first place.
How did you get to asume that most players would like that their screen will cluttered with titles? In some places the names alone were too much, now it only need half the people to have your screen full of characters and less of the beautfiful GW2 world

I don’t attract, I don’t repel. That’s kinda odd

The biggest problem here is the Mystic Forge. People put a great deal of money into it and get very little in return. It is a losing game and it feels like a losing game.

If Anet is convinced that a RNG is the best method for keeping Legendaries rare (and clearly they are, because the MF exists), then they need to hide the RNG aspect behind something that actually feels like an accomplishment.

The rarest of the rare weapons and armor in GW and, in fact, almost any other MMORPG you’d care to name are obtained by defeating very powerful opponents or accomplishing very difficult feats of gameplay AND being lucky. You went and killed Mallyx or Kael’Thas or Stormy Knight because you were guaranteed to make some progress toward getting some sort of reward AND you had a chance of getting something super-rare. Even if you got no reward, you at least had some fun trying. In most cases the odds of getting rare drops from these and other bosses is extremely low, AND the boss is very hard just to get to, much less defeat. But you don’t see the sort of absolutely hopelessness that I’m seeing regarding the Precursors because the RNG is hidden behind a layer of fun.

The MF is the absolute opposite of fun. The MF is the RNG in its purest form. There’s hope, repeatedly shattered. That’s it. It’s frustrating, and failures result in NOTHING, not even a sense of accomplishment. If you actually get your Precursor, any sense of achievement is completely overshadowed by the sheer relief that you don’t have to use the MF any more.

That is not how it should be.

Leave the chance of getting Legendary precursors in the MF. That’s fine, but it should an alternative method of getting it, not the sole method. The other alternative should be a difficult boss, or rare DE.

Guild Wars itself had a superior method of getting rare gear. Want a Rotwing bow? GO KILL ROTWING! I killed Rotwing dozens of times and never got a Rotwing bow, but I still had fun trying, and with the loot I got from those fights I was actually able to buy a Rotwing bow from another player. It’s still just as much of a RNG but it’s much less psychologically demoralizing than pitching expensive items down the toilet of the MF.

Incidentally, this would be a great way (and a great time!) to reintroduce named bosses back into GW2. Forget this “Champion/Veteran whatever” stuff, give us back Molotov Rocktail and the Scar Eater and Rendabi Deatheater! Get a named boss that spawns at the end of an event chain, and give him a chance of dropping a Legendary precursor!

In fact… you might even be able to get high-level players back into the low and mid-level maps this way. If you are level 80, and you help defeat a low-level boss like the Shadow Behemoth, YOU have an (extremely low) chance of getting, say, Dusk as a chest reward.

These are just examples and obviously a fair amount of tweaking and math needs to be done before bosses can start dropping Precursors, but are there any fundamental problems with this concept?

tl;dr Arenanet should give us alternatives to the MF for obtaining Legendary precursors because the MF is a demoralizing pure RNG. I suggest the reintroduction of GW-style super-difficult named bosses and give them extremely low chances of dropping Legendary precursors in order to restore fun and player populations to low and mid-level areas.

There is no real way to be 'invisible' or anonymous

in Suggestions

Posted by: Kaggura.4839

Kaggura.4839

I have found after playing since early access that no matter how you may attempt to be anonymous or invisible in the game, there is no possible way to. As soon as you login, anyone on your friendlist is notified that you have, even before you login to a character. In addition, even if you move to Invisible status, your location in the world will keep changing even though you are shown as offline. This could potentially lead to hurt feelings if friends or a guild see you login, then go to invisible status but your location keeps changing.

In every MMO I have played (FFXI, RIFT, SWTOR, TERA), there have been ways to login and be completely anonymous should you wish to merely adventure alone without any /tells or guild involvement. It seems in GW2, everyone can know every single alt you make if you accidentally login on it while representing a guild or even if they check their friendlist while you are creating a new alt. In my opinion, there is too much transparency in GW2 and I wish there were a way to be truly ‘invisible’ in the game. Does anyone else feel the lack of the ability to become anonymous? Also, before people say that this is an MMO and if I wanted to play a single player game I shouldn’t be playing one, that is not my complaint at all. All I am wishing for is a way to enjoy an MMO and get some ‘alone’ time while doing so.

Because of botting and/or gem shop sales, open world loot was nerfed the first month or so of the game. So now we have to acquire the treasures (that level 80’s want) in a strictly controlled and dictated way (dungeons, events, laurels).
