Congrats on your first 80. Now here’s the most important thing to learn in this game.
Active Defense. No other mmo to my knowledge uses personal active defense as much as gw2 does. Dodges, blinds, Dodges. invulnerability, DODGES, etc.
Key bind dodge to an easy key for you to hit because it will be the most used key you have.
Welcome to the GW2 community and good luck and have fun.
Hi. Where were you having problems in Queensdale? Three hours is reasonable to complete the map in one go ( except skill points now on first characters, I guess). Hopefully without sounding rude, I think something isn’t being done right.
I say clear your mind out a bit and relax into your first 80. Spend a bit of time gathering some nice gear and playing around with whatever traits you have so far. You’re only two weeks old so don’t panic and let it all set in.
Grats on your first 80 by the way.
Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?
Couple things, OP:
How’s your gear? You’re a recent level 80, so is all your gear level 80? What quality is it? That can make a big impact.
What profession do you play? Have you unlocked all your traits yet? Do you have a decent grasp on your defensive abilities? Traits can take a while to unlock with the present system, and also make a big impact.
Nothing in Queensdale should be killing you if you get the above two things sorted out. I have a feeling one or both of these things is your problem!
A level 80 does have advantages in a low level zone such as Queensdale. Not only does he have access to a full build of traits but also to better gear. My main character, at level 80, generally one or two shots most foes when visiting Queensdale and doesnt normally die.
What you will find, if you stick with the game, is that your skill as a player and your character’s build will improve and negate the concern you are facing.
I really hope you continue to play long enough to see the situation change. If you do I believe that you are likely to look back on this thread and situation with a smile.
Good luck.

From there you’ll be able to find a lore accurate name of your liking.

I think the better question is, how do you define a ‘day’?
Most people spend, what, ~3hours per day…
None of those activities will get you that much gold in just 3 hours.
Accurate.
Also accurate? Larger quantities of time invested = larger quantities of rewards received. That’s been true of every MMO ever (and a lot of single player games too). Anet has made great strides in the “play how you want,” “all content is rewarding” department, but that fundamental truth is unchanged (even if you buy gems, that’s just substituting “work time” ours for “leisure time” hours. That money comes from somewhere, after all).
One of the people on my friends list has gold in the thousands (several thousand), but he runs every dungeon every day, some of them in the evening after reset, some of them in the morning/afternoon of the next day. Often times he literally runs from reset to reset (with just a couple hours for a nap).
Am I angry because I don’t have as much gold as he does? Nope. Because he puts in exponentially more time than I do, thus deserves exponentially more rewards than I.
Also, I usually spend about three hours on average doing my SW farm (Breach/VW, not shovel train), and I average anywhere from 16-21 gold (depending on if I get any good drops from my champ bags)— and for the record, that’s two or three Breach/VWs (I don’t map hop), with the Breach almost always failing and VW almost always succeeding. During the seventeen minute “Time Out” I either Champ Train or hit the Labyrinth (depending on where the majority of players congregate after the event).
This morning I spent exactly 2 hours and 33 minutes in Silverwastes (known because I popped a pair of primers right when I started, and that was how far their duration had fallen). And in that time I squeezed in two Breaches (a success and a failure), and two Vinewraths (two successes, one of them was super sketchy though, lol).
After salvaging and/or selling all the loot and materials I recieved, I earned a total of 21 gold and 37 silver— mind you, that’s after expenses like my daily 300 silk, thermocatalytics, and various waypoint costs. But for now let’s just keep it simple and stick to 21g, 37s.
Let’s round down because I’m lazy and call it 20 gold in 2.5 hours. 300 divided by 20 is 15, so we need fifteen 2.5 hour sessions to get our commander tag. In order to figure out how many hours that is, we take our 15 sessions and multiply it by 2.5, which comes out to 37.5 hours. Let’s round again (this time up: I always round in the direction which favors the arguments of those with the opposite viewpoint of mine) to a nice 38 hours.
So doing only Breach/Vinewrath Silverwastes farming, it will take you 38 hours to earn a commander tag. If we allow your average of three hours per day, then 38 divided by 3 comes out to 12.6 repeated— again let us round up. That’s basically 13 days. Let’s go a step further and call it 2 weeks. Two weeks to get your commander tag doing nothing but but Silverwastes farming, if that’s what you want to do.
Given that 1) Commanders are intended to be experienced players capable of successfully leading groups of less experienced players and 2) Commander Tags are (debatably) a “prestige” items like Ascended gear— something that is nice to have, but unneccesary/useless in a significant amount of content, two weeks seems like a rather fair time requirement.
BUT it’s worth noting that 1) I farm inefficiently: I don’t map hop, which severely decreases my time invested to loot received ratio (people jump map shards for a reason), and 2) this includes no other sources of loot, like materials from my home instance, or mats bought and then sold with laurels, which you get automatically just for logging in, and 3) is, once again the amount I’m left with after I’ve bought expensive materials like silk and thermos. Therefore that two weeks could very likely be reduced by quite a large margin.
When you get to the second time lighting the full circle, you have to kill the shadows that spawn using the fire buff or you won’t be able to light all four without them putting one out.
Depending on your speed and the fire timer you may have to choose to kill a shadow instead of lighting a quarter.
All parts of the LS2 are solo-able.
If this is not the issue, could you provide more information as to exactly when the problem is occurring?
11x level 80’s 80+ Titles 2600+ skins , still a long way to go.
If you like the back piece skin, want something to turn bloodstone dust to loot, and/or like luminescent armor then yes.
The what-ever-it-is that turns bloodstone dust to loot sounds interesting, seeing as how I have a ton of that stuff. But it, alone, is a piddly prize for all the aggravation I have gotten from this storylines fights. Not interested in glowy gear or skins. There are nice skins in the Gem Store that I can get should I decide I’d like to have them and they’re completely aggravation free.
In that case season 2 is not worth it. For you at least.
~Sincerely, Scissors
Not at all interested in leveling any craft for 100’s of levels. I have a life outside this game.
1. Please don’t try to use that as a justification for anything ever. The I have a life phrase is just plain insulting to everyone does not even make sense when you think about it and is designed to try and belittle someone else’s choice of time investment.
2. Assuming you have the resources the total time it takes is roughly 1 hour per craft just navigating menus so is quite short.
I have 14,233,144 tendrils attacking me all at once. Die repeatedly within the course of a mere 2 minutes. Almost all gear is broken, so continuing isn’t an option.
As I said before, I play for relaxation and fun and I found nothing, whatsoever, fun about that fight.
Of course, if I give up on the storyline, all I have left to do in this game is map completion and some unfinished dungeons. I am a PvE player. Not interested in any kind of PvP or WvW.
I’m quickly becoming very disappointed in how GW2 is turning out.
Guildwars 2 was sold as using action combat as opposed to traditional combat so it wasn’t exactly advertised as “relaxing”.
There are 3 tendrils, they don’t regenerate health and re-spawn at fixed points in the fights sequence meaning even with fully broken armor progress is still quite possible. Remaining in constant motion negates most of the risk the tendrils pose and knowing the dragons attack pattern allows you to remain outside of the cone attack and dodge at the right time for the area AOE.
The fight requires some learning but is not difficult, there’s no regeneration so even if you die 100 times you’ll still finish it.
Myself and others can attest that once you know what to do you can do the fight both normal and challenge mode without dying at all, if you are truly struggling parties are allowed also.
Many aspects of the game are relaxing , it doesn’t mean the whole game has to be , perhaps the story is not an element of the game for relaxation.
As it is GW2 is widely considered the easiest MMO out there and there have been many many topics about raising the difficulty and requiring the player to pay attention, LS 2 is a step towards this and is what I’d consider a positive change.
11x level 80’s 80+ Titles 2600+ skins , still a long way to go.
Okay, tell us what we can do to get 30g a day?
Take your pick. Dungeon runs, WvW zerging, power trading, SW farming, etc. Pretty much all endgame activities will earn you 25g+ every single day, though some may be faster than others.
Keep on topic.
It was on topic. If anything, I think acquiring commander tags should be harder, not easier, and I’ve been lobbying for that since the release. Alas, simply raising the price was not the answer since getting the tag is still trivial, but I suppose it was a logical choice of making them account bound.
Also, this is Guild Wars. You have at least 5 character slots. Use them. Just because you decided you only want to play one character doesn’t mean you should get special privileges. But since you are only playing on one toon, you should have plenty of gold left to invest into a commander’s tag.
And no, I don’t think it’s unfair older players got theirs for 100g. Not only was gold worth more in the past (a lot more at release), but those that bought more than one tag only got a refund if they had bought more than three.
You can get 30g a day without doing anything hard. If you don’t want to invest a tenday into getting your commander’s tag, you don’t deserve it.
If you like the back piece skin, want something to turn bloodstone dust to loot, and/or like luminescent armor then yes.
Would be cool if you could open their inventory as well by pressing F on them, so you don’t have to keep going back and forth to your bank (it’s the same thing, just more time efficient).
Okay, I haven’t seen this suggested before, apologies if this is an old idea.
The idea is pretty simple, with a few options. Basically, some NPC actions are programmed into each home instance (walking about, sitting, standing, maybe even training if possible etc.), and if you have any alts on your account, they are spawned into the instance performing those actions.
Some considerations:
1) The number of possible alts spawned can be dictated by programming difficulty. If the limit is less than the number of alts on the account, the selection is randomised.
2) This could be done either in a completely random fashion, or it could be done with e.g. only Sylvari alts being spawned in the Grove instance. Personally I’d want it to be random, but I think tastes might differ.
3) Not everyone will like this, in which case it could either be a toggle option, or a gem store account upgrade.
I think this would be a nice way to integrate the spirit of the old GW1 Mercenary system, but with the acknowledgement that it simply won’t work (yet) in GW2. It’s instanced so won’t bother anyone else. It would make the home instances feel more fun and interesting. It would also (if reasonably priced) sell fairly well I think.
When the new legendaries arrive do you think the flameseeker prophecies will receive an upgrade? I’ve sat with my shield and watched as many other legendaries received new effects, noises and watched as non legendaries received new effects. The pop gun from wintersday shoots a cork, the new crimson dragon horn has a unique sound effect.
When I throw the hardest to obtain shield in the game a scummy wooden shield gets thrown.
Quip and the Predator both give auras and change you grenades effects, they also give the player unique footsteps. My mighty book-shield can’t make me glow and doesn’t effect my grenades, but hey sometimes a page turns when I use a skill.
Am I the only person hoping that the shield will actually be a legendary again some day?

The devs have been reviewing your feedback on the New Player Experience. While some bug fixes have already been made, the team will be making other updates in the future to address:
- Plot holes and story inconsistencies that may have been introduced with story realignment
- Replacing the missing profession mechanics UI for the Ranger and Mesmer professions
- Investigating issues that prevent players from retaining some skills (heal, utility, and elite) that they had previously unlocked
- Addressing an issue with bundles that prematurely unlocked utility and elite skills
Other aspects of the NPE are being examined, and your constructive feedback is welcome and appreciated.

I like to stop and smell the flowers.
I have been with Guild Wars since shortly after the release of GW1, and I’ve always enjoyed the lore and experiences they’ve created in Tyria. Just yesterday in Dry Top, I walked into a heavily damaged building, still barely standing from the recent devastation wrought by the Mordrem. The barkeep was just sitting on the floor, and when I spoke with him he told me he wasn’t sure what he was going to do, and even if he got back on his feet, pretty much all of his regulars were dead. That kind of thing doesn’t really add heavily to the game, but I think it’s so great for a MMO to have, and it really helps complete the world and validate the lore. I’m one of the players that likes to get into the ‘role-playing’ part of ‘RPG’. I really enjoy putting myself in the armor of my adventurer because I feel like it makes the world feel so much more vast and alive. I tend to notice all the extra content that doesn’t take the form of points or loot.
Additionally, I’ve recently started noticing there are some minor things I can do while playing to really enhance my experience. For instance, I noticed that if I played with the camera zoomed in to the 2nd closest setting, and tilted so that it was closer to the ground, it made Tyria appear much more immersive. I realized that I had been playing with my camera pointed at the ground, which is totally necessary for battle, but when I’m exploring in role-playing/adventure mode, positioning the camera in that more immersive position keeps the game feeling fresh and expansive.
But enough about me, what about you? How do you prefer to forge your legend? What way of playing is the most fun for you?

Now when youre friend goes on or offline you’ll get the yellow message on your chat.
You need to have a guy on your friend list to make this work.
Aggro in this game doesn’t really work like other games. No one class takes more aggro than others (except maybe in very specific cases with very specific bosses). Also, every race does every class well. As for wanting to mostly stay ranged, keep in mind that many fights (especially those in dungeons, double especially with most “meta” groups) are more quickly done in melee. So, picking something that can smoothly transition from ranged to melee might be good.
A ranger gives you a decent ranged option with the longbow, letting your pet tank for you as much as possible. Rangers also have pretty good melee options, too, with sword/axe. You can also melee with GS or axe mainhand, as well.
There’s also necromancer. Good ranged (staff and even deathshroud autoattack is ok, but that one does more damage close up). Good melee (dagger mainhand is great). Axe mainhand also gives you an option in between far range and melee.
Engineer is good and a lot of fun, but your best damage is with your kits. And with your kits, your only ranged attack option is grenades. But you have great bombs and tons of combo fields and finishers.
A guardian’s only ranged option is scepter. Scepter is not very useful at all.
Warriors obviously have two ranged weapon options, but, again, you do way more damage with melee. So, having a bow or rifle in one weapon set and then a melee combo for your other set (axe mainhand autoattack is your best DPS, really) is good. Then you can switch between the two as needed.
Mesmer and ele are also good ones to try out. Honestly, every class has good things about it.
Alienates players that are not good at coordination or playing the game.
They did the tier thing for Dry Top and many players complained about it. It wasn’t “casual” enough.

Camping longbow on a ranger is bad I’m dungeons but on that fight I see no problem using longbow. I use longbow and S/W. Staying alive on some fights is more important then max dps. You did nothing wrong IMO.
Once per day per character. If you have more characters, you can do jumping puzzles more than once a day.
So, i have been stocking up on mats needed to craft Frostfang for a while now. I thought to myself “i will slowly gather these and when i finally get enough gold to get the other parts needed, i will have most of the mats already, that will be fun!”.
Then when i was playing yesterday, i turned into a Snow Leopard with a tonic, then kept fooling around with 2 other people in a town for half an hour, smiling and laughing all along, having way more fun than actually thinking about having a really really expensive weapon.
That was the moment when i realized why it’s so pointless to “grind” for Legendaries. The game does not get more fun just because i have one. I imagine it to be like the main story of Skyrim… once i completed it, i lost 60% of my motivation to do anything else in the world, since it did not feel threatened anymore and i haven’t even got proper “cheering” for it, just a oneliner of a thanks, exactly like for saving a random farmer’s chicken.
That’s how i imagine Legendaries. I would get it finally, after months, hell maybe a year, then there it is. It sits in my inventory or in my characters hands, i run around with the effects for 5 minutes, then realize that nothing has changed and nobody cares… and they are right, why should they?
What do you guys most enjoy in the game? Do you actually want a Legendary and if so, why?
For some security reasons they turned it off. It was just easier for them to create current launcher and let you in game straight from it.
However, I want the old one, too. I already made like 2 topics about it.
Anet just won’t do it.
Stop making these threads. Yes, it was cool – but it’s not needed.
The feature patch wasn’t needed. The ascended armor wasn’t needed. You need a better argument.
I’d like to see it back again to

What are we supposed to do about the mind-numbing boredom factor here?
Proposal Overview
Pets need help
Goal of Proposal
Currently, pets are useful for tanking open world PvE mobs but not much else. These ideas should improve the effectiveness of pets so that the ranger feels like he and his pet are one, not that his pet is a ball and chain that is holding him back.
Proposal Functionality
Pet stats should scale based on the ranger’s stats and the pet’s family, with a weight on specific stats based on the individual pets (some benefit more from power, others from condition damage, others from vitality, etc.).
Pet Melee range needs to be increased to 600, or the AI needs to be significantly improved to combat the current “Run>Stop>Begin Attack>Cancel Attack>Run>Stop” cycle that prevents the pet from DPSing moving targets.
Pets need to take 30% damage from AoEs, be immune to one shot mechanics, and take 25% damage from cleaves, when not the selected target for the cleave attack.
When Stowed, the ranger should gain the “Aspect of the [pet name]” effect, which provides unique buffs based on the pet family and specific pet.
Speccing into Beastmastery should improve the pet stat scaling
Signets should always affect the Ranger and require a Beastmastery trait to also affect the pet (the opposite of the way it is now).
Associated Risks
Having a pet is a risk right now…

Proposal overview
Wilderness experts should be masters of poisons. Therefore, Rangers should have the most potent poisons available.
Goal of Proposal
Currently Rangers have 15 different skills that apply poison. Necros are in second with 12 and thieves are third with 9. With all that access to poison, you’d think Rangers would have some traits that make it more potent, but they don’t. In fact, there are no traits at all for Rangers that improve poison performance or help Rangers do more damage to poisoned foes. This proposal seeks to reconcile the disparity that currently exists in the Ranger playstyle.
Proposal Functionality
Rangers should be given some trait options to improve poison in various ways. Between extended duration, improved healing suppression, higher damage values, and bonuses against poisoned foes, a healthy balance should be found that rewards rangers for applying and maintaining poison.
Associated Risk
I don’t see any real risks associated with the proposal, primarily because I’ve left it general enough to allow room for various functional applications of the idea that would not unbalance the game or disproportionately reward specific playstyles over others.
