I wouldn’t delete them. The third (and possibly future) birthday gifts are quite valuable with their access to dyes worth several hundred gold.

What you can do is park them somewhere useful for a daily harvest, either a rich node or place with a lot of nodes close together or a magnificent chest such as the one at the end of the Pirate JP in Lion’s Arch or if you have HoT, park it at the flax farm and sell the flax or donate to your guild. When you need tools or salvage kits, go to WvW or PvP and back to where you were. I have a level 80 warrior that I only use now for a daily harvest.

Be careful what you ask for

So I might be a few days late on this due to exams, but I had to take some time to come in here and read the comments on the BL skins.
I just wanted to say really good work on the Timekeeper skins! Beautiful graphics.
As long as you have the time to update BL skins every 2 week, please do so.
Continue with this quality. Thank you to the designers and Anet.

Thank you ArenaNet for this amazing game.

I appreciate all the work you’ve put into making and maintaining it. I appreciate that there’s no subscription fee smothering my enjoyment. I loved all the free content you added over the first two years, AND the expansion you can pay to play if you want it.

Your biggest fault is being too generous and making all these guys think they deserve more free stuff than you’ve already given us.

Thank you.

Life doesn’t give me lemons anymore, not after what happened last time.

I have always believed in giving gamers choices ingame. I supported the removal of forced WvW for map completion, even though at the time the only maps I had completion on were WvW. ( my choice) I could see some pve only players were distressed at having to enter WvW.

I support people who do not wish to PvP to obtain a legendary.

I would prefer all things are available to all playstyles.

If designers think something is primarily from one mode, adding additional longer ways to obtain it in other modes would be very acceptable to me.

People have a right to an opinion, try to treat each other with respect and simply state your own opinions instead of flinging vitriol.

Beating Vale only gives 8 Magnetite Shards?

Shards are not dungeon tokens.

The intended method of raid rewards is boss RNG, not token purchases. The tokens are intended to be supplemental so that if you have horrible luck you can still get what you want, not the primary means of getting your drops as they are in dungeons.

Basically, you’re supposed to repeat the raid to get your desired item as a drop, not buy it with shards. The shards exist simply as a meansure to keep you from totally giving up hope if your luck is really bad.

Whether this is a better system or not is debatable, but they were pretty straightforward that this was the way they intended the system to work.

Don’t take this the wrong way, I hardly ever play WvW, just trying to understand.

Before the 12/1 patch you got “Proof of Heroics” which was account bound and allowed you to trade them for hero points to be used for unlocking the new specializations (Druid, Chrono, DH and such). Which effectively meant you could gain them on one character and use them on your other characters.

After the 12/1 patch they are soul bound and now that means you have to actually play the other characters to unlock them.

In reality it seems like it should have been that way from the beginning. In PvE you have to play each character to get hero points.

I like that every encounter is somehow explained on trash before. The amount of trash is also okay – it’s purpose isn’t really to just slow you down, but more likely to give you warm up and some basic understanding of mechanics.

I think there should be a little bit more pressure on healing and tanking and less on just burning through.

Happy Thanksgiving ANET,

I hope to those that celebrate this warm, humble holiday at arena net, enjoy this day with those you love and care about! You all work so hard on such an amazing game. While there are still things that need to be worked on or otherwise, Guild Wars 2 is the best MMORPG I have ever played and I’m proud to have 3 years under my belt, with many more years to come.

As a person who wishes to one day travel to space, in hopes of exploring far off worlds, in the meantime I have Tyria. A world with many cultures, towns, cities, and beauty. A world I can explore right in my living room, and that alone makes me more than grateful and happy.

So once again, thank you… Happy Thankgiving, from one of your loyal players! I hope you all have a good day!

Guild Halls Done Right

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: ToothyMcFang.2305

ToothyMcFang.2305

I am in the process of working with my small guild to upgrade my guild hall. Since I’m in the leadership of the guild, I can see clearly what it’s like to get the required materials to purchase each upgrade. I am completely in favor of the current system in place for Guild Halls.

The correct mentality is needed to enjoy the experience. Any player who has the mentality that they “must get all of the possible upgrades right away” is going to be disappointed. This is not a fast-paced MOBA; this is not an RTS where you can build an entire base in a matter of minutes; and I could list countless other examples. This is an MMORPG, where things take time but are rewarding.

If you try to get all of the upgrades alone, you will be overwhelmed. That’s why you are in a Guild. The task is meant to be done as a team. If you take a team and gather elder wood and mithril in Orr, or go to Dry Top and Silverwastes for Coarse Sand, it goes infinitely faster than if you go farm alone. Plus, it’s more fun to be in the company of your friends.

Even working together, a Guild Hall takes time to build. It is meant to be that way. It makes sense. And it is satisfying to see it coming together as time goes on. It should be expected by everyone that it will take time and effort.

The way Guild Halls are set up encourages the mentality of team work. It is up to players to accept that mentality. Doing it alone, and doing it all at once, is NOT what the game is about, and having that mentality is going to make you mad. Embrace the mentality of teamwork and gradual progression, and you will be much more satisfied with the results.

The game was NOT meant to be played like this: farm farm farm all day every day until you get all the rewards you can possibly get. It is much healthier to do this: spend a little time every day helping gather materials for the guild hall, and then spend the rest of the time doing what you enjoy, be it dungeons, exploring, gliding, jumping puzzles, PvP, or WvW, or any other thing. You will be surprised to find that you will not only be happier, but you will still get the upgraded guild hall that you want.

Yes, I have every alt that I am not currently actively playing at the Daily Flax Farm. I do that because that means I spend just a few minutes on my characters gathering, and then I switch to my main for the activities that I actively want to do. It also means that I am contributing to my guild hall every day, which is something that I want. I do more farming than that for the guild hall, but that is the example that I am sharing.

Guild Halls do NOT demand that you build ALL of the upgrades in ALL of the branches. There are guilds with a PvP focus, so they are meant to spend most of their focus on the PvP branch of the guild hall. There are also plenty of guilds that do not do much PvP, so that part of their guild hall is left unbuilt for a long time. It is meant to be that way. There is no shame in not having EVERY upgrade. You are meant to get the ones that you will use.

The materials required is realistic and possible.

I have an example from real life that I want to share: I was baffled to read in the newspaper that one bridge across a river cost more than 11 million dollars to complete. Yes, the project took several years, but it’s still staggering to me. The point of me sharing this example is that now I understand better the actual costs of construction. Bearing that in mind, the amount of materials required for certain things makes much more sense.

It’s possible that some things need to be tweaked, but if Anet decides to make those changes, I will accept that too. Heart of Thorns has not even been out for one month yet, and I know expecting everything to be perfect right away is unrealistic and ridiculous. If people could get a glimpse of Anet’s side of this game and issue, they might complain less and praise them more. This is a huge update all at once, and they have to monitor and work on current content AT THE SAME TIME as working on making new content.

My bottom line is this: learn to be patient, and you will be much happier.

Question about raids.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Thaddeus.4891

Thaddeus.4891

For the first and third boss, ascended gear won’t make a difference. It’s mostly about being good with the mechanic. There is a little dps check there, but it’s more about having a good build and being good with the mechanics. The 2nd boss on the other end is a big dps check and, most group will need to get as much dps as they need, making full ascended and good build a must.

That said, if someone can do a great job with Ascended Trinket/Weapons and exotic armor on 1st and 3rd boss, a Longbow/GS build Ranger is pushing it. I’m not saying it’s bad, but look at it this way.

Ranger itself isn’t one of the best profession for raid. Good, but not the best. Now you are not in the best gear since you are not full ascended. Then you are not in the best build for raid because you are using a GS. That’s a lot of reason for a pug group to not accept you. Why a pug would choose you if he can take the full ascended Herald next to you?

In a guild group that would be different because I prefer to have a friend that I know will be good and listen. Plenty of group killed boss with different composition and with profession that most pug don’t really want to invite. So even if your ranger could do a decent job, most pug group will prefer the guy next to you.

If you like your ranger. Your best choice would be Condi Ranger or Druid Healer for raid or to find a permanent squad like in a guild or something.

19 lvl 80’s…

3 warriors (2x 100%)
3 rangers (1x 100%)
3 necro’s (2x 100%)
3 guardian (1x 100%)
2 eles (1x 100%)
2 mesmers (1×100%)
1 thief (1x 100%)
1 engineer
1 revenant

Why worry about mains, just make ‘m all. And if you have ’m all make some more.
I have a 100 % map of all character profs, except engineer and revenant Mostly because I was trying to find a melee engineer (well it is done now) and as revenant (at least MY revenant) isn’t very old… well it has no map.

You’ll learn you’ll use some proffesions for certain things and do not use ’m for others.

23 lvl 80’s, 9 times map, 4ele, 4ncr, 3war, 3grd, 3rgr, 2thf, 2msm, 1eng, 1 rev.

Katana skin already in game...

Is anyone else wincing at the phrasing of “Katana Dagger” and “Katana Sword?”

It’s like saying sword-sword and sword-dagger. A dagger in that style is a tanto and the sword, depending on length is a Wakizashi or a Katana.

Belinda’s Greatsword on the other hand, is more resembling a “Zanbato” which is a fictional/fantasy sword that’s uber long. Translates to somewhere around “horse-slaying sword” or “horse-chopping sword.”

Zanbato swords are most commonly seen in fighting-style anime, highlighted most especially by Bleach.

Anywho, just wanted to know if anyone else winced when they read that.

Actually, the Assault Knights would be a great addition to fractals rather than raids because raids are supposed to move the story forward and fractals take place in the past, though I understand the challenge of changing Marionnette to 5 players rather than a raid group. Some of S1 was already added to fractals but I think we could do with some more

Daredevil Staff Skills 1, 2 and 3 (feedback)

Entrea Sumatae.7830

Okay, you’re right. All the Staff slot 1 skills are missing their skill type descriptors (Staff Strike and Staff Bash are missing their “Chain” on the tooltips as well). That definitely is a bug that needs to be fixed. All the same, there is a point to Riku’s argument. If you were very familiar with Thief mechanics you probably wouldn’t be confused despite the missing info, because it works the same way as literally every other Thief autoattack chain. Don’t get me wrong, there’s no particular reason you should be familiar enough with Thief to know that, especially having power-leveled them in a few days, but you clearly aren’t coming in with feedback as an expert at the class. Not to say your feedback isn’t valuable as a result, but a lot of people will see it that way.

To play devil’s advocate, the MMO market has been pretty terrible the past 4 years, so it’s not that much of an honor. For years to come is also iffy at best, unless Anet actually figures out a long term plan they are doomed to only appease diehard GW fans. Pre-HoT and HoT has shown that Anet doesn’t seem to know where they want to take GW2.

I don’t know anyone who frequents these forums and I don’t know if anyone will really care, but I just felt like sharing. If no-one cares for this bit of sappy trivia, I’ll know when this thread dies with hardly any replies. ;-)

Somewhere in 2010, I met a girl while playing Guild Wars. We barely talked for a few years afterwards, then became better friends, then ended up dating. She lives in Poland, I live in Belgium.

In April this year, we met in “real life” for the first time, and life has been paradise ever since. We visit each other every 2-4 weeks, and last week, I signed the lease for an apartment in which we’ll be living together. She’s moving in with me soon, and I couldn’t possibly be any happier.

It’s funny to think that I used to feel like I was wasting my time by playing Guild Wars so much. But now, in hindsight, it was probably the best thing I have ever done in my life.

Thank you, GW.

Nightfury, for free

Nightfury; Blessed Shoulderguard of the Swagseeker. It doesn’t cost 3,000 gold. It doesnt even cost 500 gold. They said you’d have to work for it, and they’re right. There’s a LOT of complaining on these forums that the ONLY way to gt this item is behind a massive gold wall, which is just nonsense. You can get every single item required to make this item on your own, without ever touching the Trading Post. Some of you just don’t want to, so you blame Arena Net for doing exactly what they said they were going to do: Make a very cool item that requires a lot of work to get for those who want it. If that level of work makes you not want it; dont get it!

Linseed Oil refines from Flax. You can get, pretty easily, 100 flax a day within about 5 minutes, much more if you actively run around and gather it instead of just porting to farms. That’s 5 linseed a day, for zero effort and zero gold. Is that a long farm? Yup! Did they say it would be? Yup! It’s almost as if the price of materials on the trading post are driven by direct supply and demand of items or something; pretty wild concept, right?

Endless Batwing Brew is the ONLY item hidden behind pure RNG, and even the price of those will drop before long.

Tattered bat wings are easily obtainable by running the Mad Thorn dungeon.

Glacial Lodestones drop in several dungeons, from many mobs, and the Cores drop from many more mobs around the world.

Onyx Lodestones are the same as above. Run Twilight Arbor, seriously.

Pristine Spore Samples are, much like Linseed oil, entirely farmable on a daily basis.

The Gift of Ascalon is – you already know it – a dungeon reward for tokens.

Glass is obtainable by doing Silverwaste trains, like half the game already does. Get silky sand, get course sand, go make glass.

Mystic Coins are timegated – you will get all 250 entirely free over time

I have never heard of someone saying they had too little Bloodstone Dust

Powerful Blood is farmable from high level mobs, and can be promoted to using t5 bloods

Orichalicum has been farmable for ages; anyone who has ever had to make the Gift of Metal can tell you that Ori running through Orr is quite a thing.

Which brings us to the leather; I don’t actually know a good, solid way of reliably farming leather of that level, but its also never been expensive. The good money is that, by the time you actually need this, the rest of these activities have gotten you more than enough gold as a side-effect to buy a stack of leather.

Congrats, you have now obtained the skin Nightfury for the low low costs of… playing the game. It’s probably June, right about now, but you did it! Enjoy being one of the few people in the game to put the effort into what can be considered the first legendary shoulder item in the game.

Razer mice are inset, and can get dead skin easily caught between the buttons. Corsair has a reputation of its keyboards being outset, so they decided to make a mouse with buttons that are similar.

I have a Razer Naga 2012 currently, and lack of mechanical buttons is horrible. So I’ll be getting a Scimitar myself eventually. I’ve never been good with Mad Catz, especially back on PlayStation and PlayStation 2 when I used their controllers.
