“Back on track” based on whose views OP? You obviously don’t like it, and you bluntly try to shut off the comments from those who do. So you’re saying that instead of developing “their game,” ArenaNet should instead sit down and let people like you dictate what they do and don’t do? Now it becomes the game you like, but what about others? Is it now their turn to ask “How do we save this game?” So should Anet then sit down with those people and do what they like? Potentially re-ruining it for you, or for some other group.
The simple fact of the matter is that not all games are for all people. Take a long look at GW1; there were a kitten ton of people that absolutely did not like, still do not like, but that didn’t stop if from being a successful game that lots of others (including myself) love, even to this day. GW2 will end up much the same. You either hang out for the ride and you move on. Just how life works.
Before I get to the main post, I would like to say that this thread isn’t for those that feel that GW2 does not need saving. If you think the game is more or less going well, then this thread isn’t for you. Feel free to read (naturally), but I do ask that you not derail the thread. (I can do that myself, thank you.)
Just wanted to pop in and say something about this. Instead of opening up a topic for healthy discussion, you’ve dissuaded anyone having a view point that is contrary to yours to participate. By doing that, all that you’ve done is create a QQ thread that only caters to those of a like mind. Which can only result in one thing. A collection of posts that offer nothing in the form of feedback, or suggestions that will do anything to help “save” the game. It’s a one sided converstation that in the end, will do more harm than good, as there is no perspective of any other view points and experiences, which is needed for a healthy and productive discussion to take place to make the changes that need to happen.
It’s the chain I beat you with until you
recognize my command!”
Are you sure that GW2 need to be saved by the player base or from the player base because every thing Anet changed was because of the player base asking for things you can see it if you look at a long view and old post.
Champ bags are the best example of this players asked for a reason to kill champs so Anet added in bags players wanted bags to be less rewarding so anet nerfed the bags players still wanted champ farms to be dead anet removed some of the major champs from them game and made them vents.
At the end of the day i think its the players who use these forms to promote there own selfish wants onto an entire player base is more want the game needed saving from then any thing else.

You’re closing the discussion to those won’t don’t have the same opinion as you, not sure that’s a really healthy way of using a forum.

Supposed problem is lack of build variety.
Proposed solution is a trinity system with professions locked into specific builds.

The meta is changing at an alarming rate!
There could be a myriad of RP reasons for even “black” Norn. It doesn’t have to be farfetched, lorewise, either. Much like I don’t try to reason why the Vigil Norn mentor has purple eyes, and Wynett Fairhaired has also light purple hair. It’s a game, and with a non-human race there’s even more reasonable explanations why things are different than what we expect as human beings (Norn are not human, and thus are not beholden to our “rules”, be it evolutionary or otherwise-for that matter, not even Tyria’s humans should be strictly clones of real world humans, IMO.)
I think that the similarity between specific real-life human ethnicities and the Norn are given too much importance if you deny them the possibility of being dark skinned. Glad ANet put many dark skinned Norn NPCs in the game to prove such expectations wrong.
I once felt rather insulted when a friend told me my black character was inplausible and “ridiculous”, which I called him out for. Please do not do the same to any players. Your convictions of how certain races are supposed to look like must not be someone else’s (said black character was deleted over time, but I made a new black Norn Necromancer with a particular, “strange” look for my own RPing reasons, less than a day ago.)
I have more of an issue with silly names, and even then I NEVER complain about those because it’s their character and playing experience, not my own. What I consider RP inappropriate has no bearing on how someone else has chosen to enjoy the game.
The same thing we do every night, Pinky…. try to take over the wooorld!
Keep the Faith (and stay out of AC fire)
Its a game, most people play it to unwind when they feel tired or stressed, not take on hardcore bosses with uber skill for several hours after a long day at work.
IMO, this kind of content does not belong in open world and never did.

Why is it that people want things to be “harder”, so instead of making them harder for themselves, they want to impose on everyone else?
This is a great, succinct way of putting it. I see this central theme in all the worst threads. The core principle: they find something about themselves — something they have, or something they excel at — and design new mechanics around giving them a leg up on anyone who isn’t in their boat.
- If they have ample real-world cash to spare, they argue about how crucial it is for MMOs to have subscription fees to “maintain a better community,” or say things like “if you can’t afford $15/month, you shouldn’t be playing an MMO.”
- If they like to farm/grind and have tons of free time, they want to see any and all diminishing returns or time-gated content abolished, or they come up with ways for Legendaries to be even bigger and shinier.
- If they played Guild Wars 1, they brainstorm more and more rewards and accolades for people who completed Hall of Monuments achievements.
- If they are a highly-competitive “hardcore” player, they want higher difficulty, higher punishment for failure, WoW-style raids that 1% of players will ever complete, and the sacred right to kick anyone from their group if not in full zerker gear
- If they are part of a huge guild, they want to see WvW shut down for one day each week to make room for exclusive Guild VS Guild combat modes.
In most cases, there are constructive and positive ways to phrase what it is they really want. But too often, the core “idea” is essentially to make the game worse for those who aren’t in the OP’s position. I mean, even in this topic, the OP complained that the game wasn’t hard enough. So, what was the solution? Target those who are already struggling, and hassle them by wasting their time or taking their gold.
If you really want a penalty then do it yourself. Reroll on death, buy an Orichalcum Mining Pick and destroy it, salvage your armor when it breaks, nothing is stopping you.
Why can’t we have a relaxed and fun game? Why everything must be hard and mean?
The more I think about it, the more I come to the conclusion that the people promoting death penalties actually don’t want them for themselves but for the “less worthy” players around them. The mindset expressed in several of the posts in this thread talks about “forcing people to improve”, but I doubt the people actually consider themselves among those who have to seriously improve to not be hit hard by the penalties.
It may just be an unconcious reaction, but most (if not all) of the pro-death-penalty arguments I have seen in this post come down to “I want better rewards than the worthless casual over there who can’t even survive”.
Death penalties are left out of games these days simply because it’s annoying. There’s nothing more frustrating than spending 3 hours exp grinding, getting DCed, and wasting those 3 hours.
Punishing people for death doesn’t add anything to the game other than a sour taste in your mouth. No one likes dying, just the very act of it happening is something people avoid; you don’t see people going ‘man, so much fun dying in Skyrim!’ even though that’s a single player game. So given that fact there’s no point penalising people further for it.
>>Without a difficult death system nothing is truly difficult in the game.
If I pose the problem “What is 2+2?”, it does not get harder just because I threaten to shoot you for a wrong answer. Your logic is flawed.
This. So much this. “Difficulty” in any challenge is how hard it is to pull it off. Severe punishments for failure don’t make things harder. They just discourage me from trying in the first place. Knowing that I failed is punishment enough.
There is an inverse proportionality between punishment and difficulty. If you make something punishing upon death, and make it really hard, no one will bother to play it. So, if you have severe punishments for death, you have to make death rare, and thus have to tone down the difficulty of the game.
I like the flip side: death is cheap, but the less costly death is, the more frequent you can make death. Low punishments means that it is possible to crank up the difficulty. Low punishments encourage me to try riskier things, like flying solo in dungeons. Low punishments let me try out new tactics, and even just have fun with everything. I can laugh about how horrible something went when I don’t have to spend a week grinding to get it all back.
If you want more stringent punishments, put them on yourself. Don’t put them on others.
Most events are dynamic. While not as much as most people hoped for, they usually trigger other events according to if you failed or succeeded. This progression changes the area in which it occurs, sometimes contesting waypoints and making them unusable, or disabling NPCs until the area is cleared out/event is successful (e.g. harpy feathers, among other items or simply vendors). There are also examples of areas being accessible by doing an event, by a door that is now open or a bridge that you helped build. Some of these events are part of a very long chain (as happens in Orr) that can culminate in larger group events and bosses.
Heart quests are less different from traditional quests. While a progress bar is almost the same as a kill count (kill 10 rats), you can usually fill out that bar in different ways other than killing. Most of us opt for killing mobs since it adds loot to the quest. There’s situations, however, where it is much faster to collect something, water some plants, feed some rabbits, etc. Not only that, sometimes the objectives of a heart quest and a dynamic event overlap – killing a certain mob can contribute to both.
To me, it makes a huge difference that heart quests are triggered just by walking into an area. Talking to the NPC isn’t necessary to get the quest or to be rewarded for it, saving time and the boredom of walking back and forth unnecessarily.
lol @ fanboys
Anet says one thing, does another and they have people defend them on forums for it. Luckily most people are smarter and don’t appreciate the deception.

Tarnished Coast
It’s strategy when i win.
It’s manipulation when they win.
To settle this matter for once and for all, and to not start a ‘who did what to whom’ argument, I was hoping ANet could officially just answer the following question:
Rule 22 of the Guild Wars 2 Rules of Conduct states:
While participating in Player-vs-Player (PvP) gameplay, you will not participate in any form of match manipulation. Match manipulation is defined as any action taken to fix or manipulate the outcome of a match or alter or manipulate the rankings or ratings of the ladder.
Given that WvW is clearly PvP gameplay, is the current and widespread practice of “2v1” (i.e. collusion between two teams to the detriment of a third and, it follows, manipulation of the outcome of the match) a violation of the Rules of Conduct?
That’s it. A simple question with hopefully a very simple, one word, answer.
Thank you.
Okay cool here is two quotes from other devs
From the earliest days of development, we knew that we wanted to include some form of large-scale PvP combat in Guild Wars 2, but how would it work? We knew right away that we wanted three teams fighting against one another on a series of huge maps in the Mists (our world vs. world battleground) and that each team would be composed of an entire server full of players. Including three forces in world vs. world acts as an excellent balancing factor, preventing one team from growing too powerful and ruining the competitive balance of the game. Two teams can gang up to counter a more dominant third team, a dynamic that simply isn’t possible with only two opposing factions.
At no point did I, or would I have, said “Fair competition” WvW is not intended to be “fair”. There are servers with more people, there are servers with better organizations and that will always be the case. This competition will be about showing how your world can do over a defined period of time, against a variety of opponents. SPvP is the part of our game that aims for a completely level playing field. WvW would never be able to match that goal.

Coverage and population wins matchups, can i now label “blackouts” and “stacking” a breach of code too?
2v1 is a feature, Anet has stated as such, im not inclined to quote it but minimal effort is source the quote.
How is abiding by a game mode a breach?
By that definition, NOT 2v1ing is also a breach as it virtually hands the server who has the largest population a win no?
Is that manipulation too?
It’s getting patently ridiculous how the forums are flooded by these threads only now when a certain interesting matchup is in play….
European Community Manager
All in game reports are read and acted upon, we have GM’s that literally just sit there and watch “velocity reports” (named as such due to the speed of the reports being made). As you might guess there are generally a significant amount of these reports happening at any given moment and due to this we cannot respond to them.
Obviously we need to investigate all claims that come in and then action them if we have proof (chat logs etc.), there is a strict disciplinary structure that is followed and players that are found to be breaking this code of conduct are dealt with accordingly.
I hope this answers your question

Been feeling alienated for 18 months. Trying to stay with the game for my guild.
Being told over and over by the developers that it is their game and they can do anything they want with it (without listening to their customers explaining their experience) ensures that I will feel that this game definitely is not mine. Statements like that indicate they are not interested in my feedback, nor in generating my support or loyalty. Especially given the following:
Feedback in the precise format the devs require in an inflexible manner does not seem to make a difference. (see: multiple deleted/ignored 15, 20, 25+ page threads/CDI threads, etcetera).
Feedback through other formal channels (invited by the devs) does not seem to make a difference.
Lack of meaningful permanent additional content (the game will be 2 years old this August) in spite of their insistence on calling the game an MMO and then ignoring all customer feedback concerning removal of content.
And in spite of customer feedback to the contrary, what appears to be happening with the game is: a constant churn of already existing content, creating the impression that the game is unstable, the developers appear to be flailing, and that there is no appreciable sign of any vision for the future of the game In other words: in spite of customer feedback, the constant changes (e.g.“refinement” of existing details at a technical level) often have nothing to do with enhancing the customer experience and sometimes actually detract.
Surprises and unpredictability on the part of the developer, coupled with silence and/or mis-setting of expectations do not engender trust.
I realize that individually there are fine folks working at ANet. collectively, as a whole, their company culture and the way it is expressed through lack of meaningful communication, mis-setting expectations, rigid adherence to process and form, and the way the game is being handled, has managed to generate lack of goodwill, lack of trust and an overall distaste (at a business level) for the company, which has washed over into their product.
Community requires respect and courtesy from all parties. ANet has as much (if not more responsibility) here as the customers. That is a business basic. And it’s sadly missing here.
(edited by goldenwing.8473)
This isn’t a fan project or a charity, people paid money for the game and many pay for gems on a regular basis.
Since this is a business, and since the players are customers, they’re going to do what customers do to ALL businesses in ALL industries — complain when they’re not 100% satisfied!
Not everyone is going to like major changes to the game either. It’s expected.
What I personally do not understand is the desire to post here defending the game company. They do not need you to shield them from people’s criticism. While much of the criticism is useless or not constructive, some of it is actually important for the developers to hear so they can continue to improve our gaming experience.
Also, like I said before, they’re running a business. If they were just volunteers then sure, treat them extremely gently and don’t complain. However, since this highly lucrative service they are running actually pays their bills every month, I don’t feel that we owe them anything more than we owe a television company, our utilities, or our local grocery store.
That doesn’t mean people should be rude or insulting, but I don’t personally feel people need to go out of their way to be thankful for people doing their jobs. People tend to act like every patch is the game company going the extra mile for us, like it’s a favor. It’s NOT a favor, it’s something they do to keep us playing and spending money. If they never updated the game, it would die, and they would their jobs.
I hope this post doesn’t come off negative. I’m not hostile towards the makers of this game, or any game for that matter. I just don’t think we need to be particularly grateful for a company making smart business moves to keep us as customers. It’s a mutually beneficial relationship, nothing more.
Poor implementation is poor implementation. It’s worse when people warned them long before the update of many of the issues that we see now. Anet does not listen. That makes people even more upset.
So…people are to not play the game because they are in your “personal space”? I think it’s time you move on to something else. This is not a single player game, and your expectations of it being so, are ignorant. Not much else to add here.
I absolutely love it. It’s a refreshing change of pace to me from a stereotypical “female voice”. It was strange to hear my female charr speak so gently, I’m glad my Norn has a voice that fits her character. I know it can suck if you envisioned your character a different way – I laugh whenever my human male tries to sound tough – but it’s nice to have the option to play a female character that actually sounds somewhat threatening for once.
Oh, for Grenth’s sake…
Stop making these stupid threads.
By the way, there is nothing cool about mounts.
PvP modes are the “endgame” in every MMO.
Stop failing at PvE, start fixing PvP/WvW. Thank you.
That last part is the problem. Why is white neutral? I’m not white. Clearly this makes me abnormal and not a “standard human.”
Again I sound like an SJW but Krytan-brown or mixed-race is what logically should be the usual color for humans. Making humanity largely white is a very clear decision and in my opinion a wrong one.
If you don’t do WvW then I don’t think you deserve a legendary…
Legendary weapons are legendary for a reason, people who make them do everything.
