Uhhh… yeah… because lemme tell ya, should the situation be reversed, how many times does someone have to call you a girl before you feel the need to step up to that plate? lmao….
(Oh, and btw, that was an A-Class, 100% typical male comment you gave there… pat pat)
I wouldn’t care, unless they would treat me different because of it. But since this clearly doesn’t seem to be the case here, I really don’t see the issue.
And the last part is quite funny, seeing as you don’t really have a clue about if I am a man or not, so you are basically doing exactly what you are whinging about others doing.
And threads like this is the reason many people have issues with “girl-gamers”.
Does it really matter? I was under the impression that girls wanted to be treated no different from guys when playing. But apparently it is important enough that you are a girl to warrant creating a thread about it?
In an alternate universe I’d love to read the forums if ANet followed the manifesto to the letter, I wonder what the complaints would be like there?
I think you’d see a 404 error; as GW2 would be shut down because the GW1 veterans alone weren’t enough to financially support the game.
I wonder how many people realize just how bad the retention rate of this game before the Living Story and vertical progression was introduced. From the devs I’ve talked to, in November of 2012 Guild Wars 2 was quickly approaching dire straits.
It’s something that supports my antecedotal evidence, so I’m inclined to believe it. For others who had a different experience, I guess I have to accept that opinion.
If there’s one thing I would hope everybody understands, it’s this: Developers at Arena.net didn’t gather up in a meeting one morning in late 2012 and said, “Ya know, all of our hardcore fans that supported us the last 8 years over two games? Kitten them. We hate them. Let’s completely go back on our word and make them cry. Because we hate them now. Truly.”
Their manifesto was largely rejected by the MMO market; just like everyone else who tried to change the game too much all at once. There’s a REASON games in this genre tends to drift towards the “WoW Clone” label… and that’s because it’s what the players want. It’s where the money is. And Arena.net (just like every other game developer) is in the business of making money.
Personally, the argument that I think we should be having is, “Did Guild Wars 2 really NEED to try and expand the niche they had established?” Personally, I don’t think so, and trying to do so was a mistake. But it’s a mistake the developers of this game have to run with at this point. They’ve already committed to the larger company and larger expenses. Now they have to make the best of it.
Over 7 Million copies of GW1 sold. GW2 currently stands around 3.5 Million copies sold.
An impressive stat on both games, but if GW2 were an initial release with no previous knowledge or backing of a game with over 7 million sold, I’d guess GW2 would be half or less of 3.5million.
To say GW1 Vets don’t hold any player base is untrue, many of the players who initially purchased GW2 (2.5 million copies within a month of release), were GW1 players, including myself. Many have since left however.
Just to add a few hardboiler points, GW1 is one of the best selling RPG Online Multiplayer game to date, even ranking among top PC games to be produces.
I understand why ArenaNet critiques GW1, and also respect players who disliked GW1. But the point is the game held and still holds a stable playerbase.
As far as the Manifesto goes, it was designed to appeal to players, and it did, which is why it is still brought to discussion over a year later.

Only thing you can expect 100% sure for 2014 is the usual “we can’t hear you over the sound our awesomeness” blog post, full of promises wich most of them will never make into the game, and probably another “expansion worth of content”.
I think the Queensdale champ train is damaging to the game in terms of new players.
They can do Orr. They can do Frostgorge. Instead they want the easy way by doing a tutorial zone without having to think for themselves. And when someone new comes along playing the game as intended, people jump down their throats.
Now, that’s incredibly off-putting and a terrible first impression for new gamers. I wouldn’t be surprised if the champ train in Queensdale gets destroyed by increasing the times for them to spawn by a lot.
I miss having faith in the developer.
I miss having faith in the developer.
I would imagine many feel this way. This thread will be locked soon or such posts removed as they are not constructive and are telling anet the truth of just how massive their failures have become. Can’t be having that now can we.
The devs think that reddit could be an alternative? Fine, I want to give that a try. I made a new subreddit at /r/GuildWarsWvW.
Feel free to post whatever kinds of matchup threads you want there, or other WvW discussion. Yes, reddit has downvotes, but
1) They’re fake internet points, who really cares if you get a few downvotes, just laugh it off,
2) At worst, the post gets hidden by default, but everyone just opens those hidden posts to see what prompted the torrent of downvotes so nbd, and
3) I disabled downvotes by default. There are workarounds, but they’re not as convenient, and (I’m assuming) people who aren’t familiar with reddit won’t know them.
Now, I’m guessing that none of you know who I am. I think I’ve posted once in a WvW matchup thread. That’s good, because it means I really don’t give a kitten about past blowups and drama. You want a place to cut loose? This can be that place, no modding, no deleted posts, no bannings. Just keep it in some way on topic to WvW and it’s fine by me. I don’t like that there isn’t one central location for people to just act however they want without getting muzzled, it’s been a pretty consistent complaint for months, so take advantage of them kicking you off the official forums and go somewhere where you won’t be restrained.
If you’re not already on reddit, it’s literally the simplest registration process ever. Really, it’s stupidly easy, and (if you choose to be) it’s completely anonymous. That’s probably not as much fun since people won’t know who you are, but hey, it’s there. I did add flairs in the subreddit so you can rep your server.
I’m all for civil discussion when those are the rules, but if I am making the rules, all bets are off. Get angry, fellas.
My look is one of l2type I find that I can coordinate pushes, regroups, veils, DPS unloads and might stacking pretty easily without TS, a split second or two slower perhaps, but my main advantage is that I’m playing with 100% of the group, not a fraction who are on TS.
In general I rely on explaining every time I tag up (for new players, because there’s always bound to be one) the basics of what should happen. The Guardians know to empower, the Mesmers know to veil, the group knows to stun/control; I leave it to their disgression when to actually use their abilities, having told them how and when it is used normally, and it works in most all circumstances. We’ve killed TS groups consistently, guild groups, and been accused of being a TS group in the proceedings, so I find that chat commanding is not the end of the world. That said I have been accused of typing inhumanely fast, though I find that hardly true.
There should be no obligation to be on TS, nor childish bullying or exclusion for not doing so; you’re hampering your effective strength by reducing communication to TS alone, if 50% of your force is on TS and you aren’t commanding them through obstinance and laziness, you’re only shooting yourself in the foot. I don’t dispute that TS is very helpful and unlocks new levels of speed communication, however if you’re going to command on it find a way to work with those not on it too, a command relayer or DIY. Don’t reduce your maximum potential efficiency by only playing with 50% of your forces, I command on TS as well and like to think I do it well, but I make sure all of the group knows what’s going on, if only via basics and a second after I say it in TS.
I think I lost my direction of thoughts somewhere halfway through writing this, but here I’ll present you with this jumbled up collection of repeating the same few points.
My number 1 change is for GW2 is for it to be more like this game:
^These people know how to make an MMORPG, and THIS game is what GW2 wishes it could be when it grows up.
I’ll say the same thing I always say when this topic is brought up; “pay attention.”
I’ve never used teamspeak, don’t ever intend to. I’ve never had a problem with following the commander and the rare times I die are my fault for being distracted. Although yes this is personal experience and opinion, it still doesn’t make it any less valid that all people need to learn to do is to pay attention.
If a commander pauses, stack. If he/she throws down siege, build. If they start to retreat from a zerg, follow. It’s common sense, really. I find that depending on teamspeak would, if anything, make you a worse player rather than better. Because without hearing the orders you’re going to forget to follow the pin because you’re used to hearing it not seeing it.
Also, people complain about the most ridiculous things in map chat sometimes. And as I’ve heard, they do the same in teamspeak, too. I’d much rather not pay attention to mapchat and listen to music than have to tolerate peoples b_tching in my ears while I try to pay attention to what the commander is saying.
I’m really tired of reading all these threads of endless complains how gw2 is not alt friendly. All currencies are account bound, you don’t need to level for pvp, you’re up scaled in WvW, we have down scaling system in PvE, we have experience scrolls, we have tomes of knowledge, we have scrolls of knowledge, now we got account bound fractal level and soon – account bound WvW levels, how is that not alt friendly?
All these changes you mention were the result of the complaints you hear. So why would you criticize people’s complaints when it finally made the game more alt friendly because of it? If these people did not complain, these alt-friendly measures would not have occur.
I still fail to see the issue.
I would think it would be obvious, but I guess not, so I’ll explain.
Since the sale of this “collectibles expander” is relevant for the company’s profits, the company is under pressure to make people buy it (same as any product). That means making it more desirable. Nothing wrong so far, the same applies to armor skins, mini pets, and so on.
The issue is: how do you make this item more desirable? By inflating the materials required for crafting (which has already been happening, and will get worse). What is the result of that? Inconveniencing every player who doesn’t buy the “expander”.
This isn’t new content, you’re not paying for the development of this “feature”. The “expander” simply changes a variable in the game, removing an artificial limit (that most players considered too low even before crafting became so inflated). You’re paying to avoid a deliberate inconvenience, and that inconvenience has increased (and will continue to increase) because that directly increases the publisher’s profits.
Now do you see the issue?

It’s from his butt!
Zero. I’m not going to sacrifice or waste my game time, effort, gold or cash crafting. Until I can earn them as rewards through regular gameplay of my choosing without an unreasonable grind and purchase them off the bltc, this system for gear progression does not interest me.
You misunderstand Ascended gear. It was simply the introduction of vertical progression to the game. They said the power curve would be low, but they never said it would stop. So, sadly, you won’t get your wish for Christmas. We will still be grinding out the power creep which they said would probably be carried forward through infusions to ascended gear. Nothing has changed with ascended armor; the grind will still be the same, and people will still complain, until they remove vertical progression from the game.
Yes, I have.
I’ve also had stretches of a few months where I played virtually no GW2, and was not charged thirty bucks for my inactivity.
And every time I’ve bought gems/bought something with gems, I knew exactly what I was getting and got it immediately.
And if something didn’t appeal to me, I wasn’t forced to spend money on it anyways because “this is what you get this month.”
I know full well I’ve spent more on GW2 than I would have most any sub game. I also don’t care, because I have the money to spend and because I vastly prefer concrete, buy-this-thing transactions over “please pay us X/mo for the privilege of playing this game we already made you pay a box fee for.”
One of those is a company selling me things. The other one is a company withholding things I’ve already bought if I don’t continue to pay them ransom subscription fees. Guess which one I’m willing to support?

It’s an old pic but- I suppose you can say that my character is rather flexible.
Stop creating multiple threads on the same topic.
I really hope they start perma banning those spamming the forums about this topic.
Hello.
I decided to make a video to show what gear currently works with charr tails.
Either it works perfectly with the tail, or it simply doesn’t clip enough for you to really notice it.
okay so we’re not happy with just taking ET bay, so we took it all. Keep it RED!
As for ascended- it is an abomination and I will never go there- I value my sanity
I agree. My interest in GW2 took a noticeable dip when that came out.
I don’t understand what people are trying to accomplish with these threads.
JP is in WvW. WvW is a PvP -zone. People like to kill each other in PvP -zones.
Working as intended.

Right. We all should just accept what’s given to us and never question anything.
…said no one ever.
Honestly, I think food is fine as is.
Also, when I read the title, I was sort of expecting to see a post where the OP was requesting food.. like, we send food.. to the OP… Food to OP.
