What I get from your post is that you DO NOT want to work for anything

YES

What exactly is the attraction of having a second job you have to pay for?

In fact, isn’t this the biggest promise Guild Wars 2 rode into the spotlight on its shiny white stallion? That it wouldn’t be like other MMOs?That it wouldn’t be a grind? That it wouldn’t be “work”? That it would be simply “fun”?

This shouldn’t be a second job. It’s absurd. It shouldn’t require “work”. It’s a GAME. For PLAYING. For FUN.

That is how the game was sold to me from the material I read before I purchased it last year. But sadly, it seems like ANet changed their philosophy and it’s becoming more like other MMOs.

I do stuff in game. I do most events I come across, I’m trying to get into dungeons, and I wanted to get into WvW. But again, what fun is it to play against people who have at the very least, a 15% advantage with ascended trinkets and weapon? That’ll get worse with ascended armor. And what did they do to “earn” that advantage? They had more time to blow grinding than I did.

1. I will probably never have a legendary, now that you’ve nerfed karma. I toyed with the idea pre nerf, but imagine my surprise when I started getting karma vials from completing dailies a few days after I spent most of my karma on temple armor. I will not grind 2000+ events and/or dungeons. I left that other MMO precisely because of this type of treadmill/grind.

2. I will never have ascended trinkets. I’m sitting on 62 laurels, but I am loath to spend them because I have multiple characters and I never know what wonderful changes you will implement next. I don’t want to be caught in a situation like I was with karma points, where I spend most of laurels and then you implement some change that makes them more difficult to get or they become necessary to obtain even better items. In addition to this, I only do dailies if they correspond to whatever I’m doing that day. I don’t log in to do chores, ANet.

3. I will never have ascended weapons. That is, unless the required mats build up in my bags through daily activity and leveling crafting isn’t cost prohibitive. As it stands now, leveling that one crafting discipline is cost prohibitive for me.

4. I will never have ascended armor, for reasons stated in point 3.

5. And because of 1-4, I will never participate in WvW because being at a constant disadvantage when playing against other people isn’t fun.

I log in to have fun, ANet. Not to do daily chores, not to grind, not to chase more powerful, and required gear…I log in to have fun. When I bought your game, you led me to the impression that the best gear would be easy to get at level 80, so I could spend my time doing whatever I wanted. Looks like I was wrong.

Has your philosophy regarding the type of player you’d like to retain, changed as well?

It doesn’t seem like MMO’s fit you — try another style of game because <<O=grinding something ALWAYS, that’s half the fun for many.

Bullcrap, it’s a Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game. It is an RPG, within a massive world of other RPers, nothing more, there is no requirement for grind or farming for the genre to apply.

This is not just a game it’s an MMO. In an MMO you must work, do chores, strive, stand around bored for an hour waiting for Teq, buy gems, envy those with better luck than you, and above all you must grind. What does fun have to do with it?

Apparently you don’t understand the kind of game you are playing.

No offense with this reply to you OP, so please don’t take this as a personal attack, ect.

What I get from your post is that you DO NOT want to work for anything, because to you working towards gear/items ect. = grind/treadmilling.

You want to be able to login and have fun, having things given to you because of my previous statement.

You feel very reluctant to spend any time gaining karma or spending your laurels because the fear of ANet putting in different or better gear will render your karma/laurel items/gear less effective.

I again meant not offense with my reply, it just seems like you want to login and have fun and put NO work into it because it will just end in you being outdone or outclassed later on.

Best of luck, and I hope my harshness wasn’t enough to push you over the edge.

Work? This is a game.

I want to spend time getting better at the professions I enjoy playing rather than spending time getting gear so I can compete. Is that so terrible?

Your Time gating answers revealed!

Crazylegsmurphy.6430

Time Gating = Players logging in daily = Players getting bored/frustrated/annoyed/burnt out = Players logging in less = Game noticeably stalling = Shareholders become upset = More extreme measures are taken to retain players = Game become unplayable = Small set of core gamers remain = ANet pulls plug.

Time-gating is a short term solution that doesn’t have sustainability. Whenever you “force” players to play the game your way, it will serve only to drive them away.

Players want to log in because they like to, not because they feel they have to.

If ANet truly wants to retain their player base, and expand, they need to stop thinking with their bank accounts, and start thinking with their gamer hats. When they start releasing well done, well tested, and well written content, players will show up. When they start creating a reason beyond gear/achievement chasing, people will become emotionally attached to the game.

When they stop trying to sucker us all into buying gems, and just offer well done, well tested, and awesome things for sale, players will support the game.

RNG, Living World (bugs, release speed, shallowness, focus on achievements, etc), bugs, insta-kill mechanics, PvP neglect, grind, time-gating, focus on gear over fun, reliance on farming, etc….these will kill the game.

Suggestions for Ascended Gear

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Suggestion to fix EVERYTHING regarding ascended….get ready.

Ascended gear’s prime use is in fractals because agony resistance is required.

1. Drop down ascended gear stats, along with legendary, back down to exotic gear stats
2. Still include the infusion slot for AR resistance.

Done.

Now the only people that will fret over ascended gear are the ones that want to progress through fractals. Those that do not run fractals need not worry.

Simple. Easy. Done. Makes… —- EVERYONE — … happy.

But no, it makes more sense to alienate a decent portion of the playerbase…enraging many of us is a better alternative to the one I just laid out.

If this ever happened I will gladly come back to Guild Wars 2…even if Living Story is still around.

Karma is as abundant as air, and as useless as the Kardashians.

Thoughts on the insane amount of Materials and Time Gating to acquire a single Ascended Weapon? As if this is what GW2 really needed in order to survive its second year on the market……

Hey GW2 you should consider paying a salary to all of your customers because playing GW2 is a full time job. For anyone who actually enjoys acquiring all this virtual non-sense can you please acquire and mail me the items in this below list? Thanks….

Mike Zadorojny on Beta Rollout of Looking for Group Tool

Hey everyone,

With Tuesday’s release we are gearing up to launch the new Looking For Group tool for Guild Wars 2. As the system comes online, our primary focus is with the quality and the stability. To ensure a solid rollout, we’ll turn on the LFG tool in beta form to a subset of players. As the week goes on, we’ll periodically unlock the system to additional groups of players.

In Tuesday’s release notes, you’ll see the complete list of what the feature will do once we’ve fully unlocked the system. However, during the beta rollout not everyone will be able to use the LFG tool and the World vs. World subcategories will be disabled.

The Looking for Group feature has been highly requested and we’re excited to be this close to its final release, but quality is paramount. Therefore, we ask for your patience and understanding while we work through this phased beta rollout and with any problems we encounter.

Thanks,
Mike Zadorojny
& the Looking For Group team

GUYS PEOPLE ARE STILL PLAYING WVW THEREFOR EVERYTHING WORKS.

Right?

Haha +1 for that

On a serious issue it seems like devs are doing the exact opposite of what players want.

“We don’t want to have to grind to have fun”
-“Here’s some awesome new laurel currency you have to daily farm to get top level gear in a few months of farming!”

-“We want to be able to obtain the same things in WvW as in PvE”
-“Here’s an awesome back piece you can’t obtain through PVP”

“We don’t want new gear that will break the already delicate balance”
- “Here some awesome ascended stuff to farm!”

“We don’t want stat buffs!”
- “Here some new awesome mechanic that will reward the bigger zerg with some stat buffs!”

“We don’t really care for masteries”
-“Here’s some exciting new cow munition for trebs mastery!”

“Condi meta is so broken!”
-“Here’s some new awesome broken OP conD runes that will help you stack confusion on top of your ridiculous unmitigated uncapped condition damage!”

“We need some reward for defending keeps/towers!”
-“Here’s some more rewards for map flipping!”

I could go on. And that’s too much for me. I’m out. I’m really starting to feel like they’re making a kitten of me.

The thing is this game did not need another tier of gear to grind for, it’s just more fluff content. This game needed more engaging and challenging content, right now its just zerg zerg zerg for everything, living world – zerg "x"map for 2 weeks and then switch to the next, wvwvw zergfest capitol of GW2, dungeons just stand in corner stack and zerg down, world bosses – hit 1 and go get a drink as you and the rest of the zerg auto attack the boss down. With the exception of high level fractals there really is not much to this game that actually takes any thought or effort, nothing that gives you that “OMG (I / WE) DID IT!!!” feeling, and the things that are somewhat challenging are not rewarding in anyway due to everything being stuck behind the great wall of RNG.

GW2 needs tiers of content not gear, and if there is to be new gear it should be rewarded through accomplishments not grinds and RNG.

It’s simple, the game was designed for exotics to be the last tier. That’s why, not only was it the most diverse in stats, it was the most diverse class in skins and in methods of acquiring, be it crafting, dungeons, orr temple karma gear, mystic forge, WvW, or named drops.

Devs disappointed by human race bias

I think that you need to look at this from other side. Most of players want to play preety characters, no doubt about it. From all over the races humans are the best because of females, several good looking faces + bodytypes. Go to LA and just count human females. Norn females are also popular but not as human ones. Why? Because theres only 1 veeeeery good face pattern. Ok i get it that big cat-dog-cows and little goblins are great story races but racial story is sth about 10% of game. Guild Wars is all about end game good-look so ppl are more into humas than other races because:

Charr: clipping issues and problems with armors on higher lvls ( helmets for example)
Asura: small textures, u can’t show off
Norns: all Norns are made for guardians and warriors, also females are good looking rangers so we have only 3 classes out of 8.
Sylvari: Armor issues, males are rly weird because of plaudrons they are just too big to enjoy armor sometimes, second thing is female breast size ( but thats only IMO)

Devs are right, for example Charr story line is great. I enjoyed every single piece of story but whats next? Ur forgetting about personal racial story, you are joining order (another great story),your racial story is almost erased…

And at the end, as I said, Its all about good look.

P.S. Make Norns and Charrs smaller? Whats the point? Smaller Norns will be Humans and smaller Charrs wont be that scary, they will became cute. Its very bad idea. Also:

Charrs fighting system: Its awesome! You can feel like beast, those 1k blades and axe swings are just brutal, no grace just pure rage and power!
Norns animations: What the hell ur expecting? They are made of muscles and fat, you cant expect grace of balette dancer.

Those races are made to fight, to be brutal, to crush, kill and destroy, not to be a great fellowship at theater or some art show.

Playing GW2 is bittersweet

Does anyone else feel this way?

I felt this tonight when I logged into my alts.

It really felt like I was taking them out for the last time. That all these guys I wanted to raise up and make fully fledged characters at level 80 would now be put out to pasture. With no realistic way to kit them out in Ascendeds, I know they would just be a drag on my teammates in WvW. So everything I had planned out for them is gone.

I didn’t play Star Wars Galaxies, but I read a lot about how they changed the game from something special into just another game to bring in a mass audience. In a way, I feel the same sense of mourning those players did.

“Better yet why is there no amounts of ascended materials given as a bonus(perhaps with diminishing returns) for defending keeps/towers? It’s obviously interfering with the WvW game by causing people to want to take take take and ignore defending.”

1000000% agree. There are too much attention placed on capturing objects, too much reward, not enough risk. Not enough attention placed on open field combat.

The whole mentality of WvW has changed – flip everything as fast as possible and map hop, while you are gone hopefully another server flipped it so you can come back and reflip. WXP Progression, Lord/Tower rewards and lack of competitive match-ups created this.

Personally, I think you should get Ascended mats off people and ONLY people.

Downscale ascended to exotic for WvW

in WvW

Posted by: etiolate.9185

etiolate.9185

Please downscale Ascended to Exotic. It’s for the health of WvWvW. The people voting no do not understand the effect it will have on build diversity.

Build Diversity has no reason to exist in PVE due to encounter design and ease of difficulty.
Build Diversity doesn’t really exist in sPVP because of Conquest mode.
Build Diversity DOES exist in WvWvW and that’s maybe the main reason I play it. Ascended will end that.

Hell, let’s be honest. Ascended gear has been a waste of everyone’s time, the devs included. It has added nothing to the gameplay and there’s no content in PVE that demands it. All it can do is screw up WvWvW for players like me.

My thoughts on Ascended/Direction of game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Irrodesia.3907

Irrodesia.3907

On Another Note

In light of the whole “I HAVE MY ASCENDED WEAPONS ALREADY”.

This doesn’t really bode well, in my opinion. I mean the whole concept behind going about the Ascended weapons was to make sure that people couldn’t get it ASAP 3-4 days after release… so despite knowing I probably won’t get a reply I’ll try anyways.

@Colin Johanson (if you read this):

People obtained Exotic gear faster than expected, so to answer that problem you put out Ascended gear.

So now, people are obtaining their Ascended gear faster than expected. This is without a doubt, a pattern. People stock-piled on T6 Materials or they simply converted IRL money to gems to convert to gold. Then those people go out and non-stop champion farm and all sorts of other farm in order to obtain the materials that they are unable to buy because it is account bound.

This, this very thing, is what they do. They rush everything that is thrown at them and if obtaining an item or reaching a goal can’t be reached fast enough by standard terms they find an alternative means of getting it.

Time-gating was never going to stop anyone from getting the weapon in the first five days. In fact, weren’t legendary weapons bumped to Ascended stats? Or supposed to be? (Not sure if it was actually done, haven’t looked in to it. Can anyone here confirm?)

By that alone, people already had their Ascended weapons on day one when the patch went live.

Now, I’m not saying that bumping up Legendary weapons to Ascended gear status was a bad idea or anything. I would most certainly HOPE that it would be, because those people worked hard for their legendary weapons and it would be insane for the legendary to all of a sudden to be obsolete.

But do you see the flaw in that logic? So after Ascended armor comes out and people obtain all of that faster than usual, now they have their full Ascended gear that was fully finished and 100% complete faster than expected.

The very people that you attempted to appease in giving them another tier to work towards, are going to do the same thing they did before:

‘AUGHH I HAVE MY MAX STAT GEAR WHAT DO I DO NOW? ANET GIVE US ANOTHER TIER TO WORK TOWARDS PLZ’

People that stockpile materials and gold like people on an episode of Doomsday Preppers or sit in town and play Virtual Wall Street: Black Lion Trading Edition all day aren’t exactly the average player base. Is there anything wrong with people that do that? No. In a situation like this will they realistically obtain something faster than the rest of the player base because of it? Yes.

So my question is: What are you going to do now?

What’s next? Legendary armor and more legendary weapons are cosmetic looks only, when that comes. But it’s not about having a legendary looking weapon for these people, is it?

The target group you have turned your attention to will always surpass your expectations.

Every. Single. Time.

They don’t want just ‘one more tier’ with ‘slightly better stats’. They are content for the time being, until they finished the entire Ascended gear set then it’s back the square one; now they need a new tier of gear with higher stats so they can feel like they are accomplishing something.

That target group isn’t one you can realistically keep happy. They came to Guild Wars 2 and couldn’t wrap their mind around the fact that, once you hit the final tier you never have to worry about BIS gear again. They never had that before, many couldn’t handle it and their brains went in to meltdown and they rejected that very concept.

So…. What ARE you going to do now?

Nope. You’ve been fooled by Anet. What you need is more AR. Anet could have just added infusion slots to Exotics for fractal players. Higher stats were never necessary for fractals. Fractals was just a flimsy excuse that Anet used to introduce higher stats Ascended gear.
